Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ermintrude13 · 22/05/2009 09:37

silk I expect eating the book was such an exciting experience that your DD couldn't stop herself. At 18 months, the urge to chew is a powerful one and cause and effect - ie. if I eat this book we won't be able to read it again - isn't always clear. At least she was keeping herself busy, which shows resourcefulness - or maybe it was a protest at having been deprived of her bedtime routine by your naughty DH!

lauraloo hope you're feeling better today and if not, get back to that hospital.

June I did a few sessions of 'leaning over the stairs' which moved my LO from transverse to vertical - and head down. You have to be sure you're not going to tumble all the way down of course - just 'walk' your hands down as many stairs as you can manage, prob only 2 or 3, and have your knees planted firmly apart at the top. Hold it for a couple of minutes. This opens up the pelvis and encourages the best lie because of gravity. Worth a try?

Naat DH and I have had a few tetchy arguments recently but I haven't been tearful - he gets more upset than I do. I must be very hard. It's usually about him not thinking about stuff the DC need for school or football etc. and still expecting me to do everything. He doesn't mean to; just has man brain

Tee sounds like a lovely day, enjoy it.
Hello everyone else

chocciedooby · 22/05/2009 09:51

Silk - Did your DH forget to give DD her dinner? . Only kidding...

bunnymother · 22/05/2009 11:30

Morning ladies!

Naat - my hormones are all over the shop and lately I cry about everything. I go between getting cranky at DH (for nothing - he has been absolutely wonderful the whole pregnancy) and then clinging to him. I am a nut these days. Deep breaths, and I hope the MW visit goes well. Bra shopping? God, I want nothing to do with some of those ugly nursing bras, and my size doesn't seem to be stocked everywhere so am going to do more internet searching... Nice lady at Selfridges yesterday advised I get both F and FF (you should have seen my face - I have really moved up through the alphabet!), so need to hedge my bets...

Who said that they were worried they didn't get nursing bras big enough? Hope that isn't true, as imagine it will be v annoying having to get new ones. Hmm, and I remember chat about sleep bras - I better look into that, too. And those nursing vests. This should help kickstart the economy...

Re health visitors, do I need to register to see one or for them to visit me, do any of you know?

Tee - sounds like a fab day!! DH asked if there was a particular outting I wanted to make this weekend, so we are off to my fave little London museum - can't wait!

LittleSarah - how gorgeous it that Warehouse dress?? You will look fantastic in it! Enjoy your shopping!

Silk - crikey Mikey, she gobbled half a book? Oh dear, but she does sound so cute! Is paper a carbohydrate? Sorry! Hopefully she is settled today and your DH will stick to the routine next time!

June - I am w the others - your hospital is being RUBBISH. I hope they have sorted it out, else have same thoughts - make like a mule and refuse to move till you get what you need. ((Bunny mutters that this may explain why my appointments take ages, though...))

Doris - your little girls sound so precious! Doubt all that clipping was particularly comfortable, but how gorgeous are they?? (God, I better not cry again!)

Hello to everyone else!! Hope you are having lovely days, before the long weekend! The weather here in London is magical today - sunny and warm - lets hope we get another 3 days of this!

silkcushion · 22/05/2009 11:34

hello just a quickie as I really ought to go back to work (popped home for a quick skive)

Dd up bright and early as usual full of smiles until she saw the book. Had a little crestfallen face when she tried to 'read' it and kept saying 'mummy book oh no'. Was so sweet (I had to hide my smiles as she is clearly now in mourning for one of her favourite books)

Told nursery what she'd done in case of strange cardboardy poos! In fact she insisted in carrying another book to nuresery and refused to out it down - hope it's not her idea of a packed lunch!

Dh and I not rowing (we very rarely do) but last time rougn any innocent comment could make me cry - think it's just par for the course when yr so hormonal and feeling miserably uncomfortable. At least we can come on here and moan/whinge/comfort each other

Good luck to those of you seeing MW/OB today. I'll call back later.

bunnymother · 22/05/2009 11:48

Silk - what a little cutie your DD is! So sweet. Have a good day!

silkcushion · 22/05/2009 11:52

x posts Bunny

She is a cutie - I love being a mum and it's more fun everyday. I think it helps this time round with the pg because I really really know how fantastic the end result is even if I have the pooey potty training bit to come!

lauraloo09 · 22/05/2009 11:56

morning lovely juners

june good luck with today's scan hopefully they will scan you quickly and ease your mind about baby's position

Just a quick update was up around 5 times last night with usual toilet routine but not too many pains and when i had a cramp it wasn't as sore as the previous night which was good. I god a good sleep as well, i was awake between 3 and 5 but fell asleep again until 9 then drifted back off to sleep until 11.15
Going to a concert tonight - The Blue Man Group I saw them with DH in Florida on our Honeymoon and it was great and tonight is the first time they have played in Scotland so really can't wait. Think I will take my pregnancy notes with me tho in case i need to go to Paisley Hospital if pains come back on bad

Anyhoo thanks again for your thoughts yesterday and i will try and keep up with everyone else

Naat · 22/05/2009 12:08

Hey ladies

Thanks for all the comments, it helps to know I'm not the only one. silk, you're right, at least we can vent here! Yesterday I was so mad I wanted to magically disappear!!

ermin yes, man brain, but come on, people?! LOL at "resourcefulness"

silk you DD sounds absolutely adorable, and her pictures confirm it She's absolutely lovely!!!! I'd have had a really hard time trying not to smile this morning when she was telling you "oh no" (insert cute emoticon)

bunny yeah, I can imagine your face Hope you find something nice and useful soon Re. health visitors, in my case the MW sent her a notification saying I was near my due date so that she'd come. I guess that's the same throughout the country?

ineed sorry to hear about the kick... I hope it doesn't hurt anymore.

tee that sounds like a great day!! Do tell us about it when you get back

june thinking of you for everything to go smoothly at the clinic. xx

MW came, 40min late , and BP is fine, I'm measuring 35.5 (37wks today) but she's not worried as she told me baby is indeed engaged and therefore, the belly tends to measure less... So yes, that huge pressure on my bladder is the baby engaging.

June2009 · 22/05/2009 14:02

Thanks for the kind words, I'm now back from the clinic and the baby is head down, the right way round, YAY!
They gave me the run around and for a while I thought it wasn't going to happen but in the end I saw a lovely doctor who did a quick scan and told me where the baby is. Head down, back tothe left, bum at the top of my belly and legs sort of folded under the bum.
1/5th engaged.

We did spend the evening and the night thinking seriously about booking somewhere else for birth (not sure whether you can do that easily at such a late stage). The birth centre is ok-ish but they're not well in synch with the hospital, and that hospital is abysmal. We might have a look at another birth centre which would transfer to another hospital if needed (but even that one doesn't exactly have a better reputation, worse probably!) Either that or UCH in central london which is "only" 40 minutes away. Really not sure what to do.

Tee The cold sore seems to have retreated (super baby hormones?).
Yup I know about the risk with this virus, there was a case in the news a couple of months ago where the baby actually died.
The mum had caught the virus for the first time late in her pregnancy and kissed the baby which is why it was fatal. I have had it since I was a teenager which means I have less chance to pass it on, and my baby has had time to build immunity against it. I also turn totally OCD when I have a cold sore, I don't let anyone touch me or my stuff and I walk around with dettol disinfecting everything I touch as I go along. .
I've done ok avoiding them so far considering how run down I am getting so I really hope I don't get one now. (the last few I got pre-pregnancy got infected as well which has been a nightmare.)

laura We went to see Blue Men Group a couple of years ago at the theatre in London, it was brilliant, let us know how it goes :D

naat Where did you see Cirque du Soleil again? I really want to see them, but I think they are in Russia at the moment.
Hope you and dh are back on good terms.

erm I did think about you and the stairs yesterday, I was too knackered to try it. s it turns out I don't need to do it and the doctor said there is little chance of the baby moving to another position now.

My next midwife appointment is on my due date! 07/06. That's 2 weeks from now.

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 22/05/2009 14:20

June- Great news!!!!!! What a relief don't have any advice on the hospitals, but maybe investigate furher if it makes you feel better.

Re the cold sores my dad (weirdy beardy type ) makes me a cold sore potion to put on as soon as I get the tingle, (alchol based -whickey or gin i think with a few essential oils in it) I have used it faithfully every time i get a tingle and I have (touch wood) not had one properly for years. Even dh who most definitely does not do "that kind of stuff" swears by it. I can dig out the recipe if you're interested ( it's properly from a book not randomly thrown together by my dad )

Right going to HB and try not to fall asleep!! wish me luck as that would be a first for this pregnancy.

wil catch up properly later

DorisX

June2009 · 22/05/2009 14:31

hey doris, I'll have the recipe if you can dig it out yes please
Good luck with hb.
Feeling like going for a nap myself, we're going out the restaurant tonight and i really want to be awake throughout...and yesterday and this morning have been draining.

Naat · 22/05/2009 15:32

June YAY!!!! God, sooooooooooooooooooo happy for you!!! Finally you got a professional to do his/her job properly!! Go out tonight and celebrate We saw Cirque du Soleil in Sheffield. You're right, they are touring the rest of Europe at the moment (Germany, Portugal, Spain, Norway, Finland and Sweden) Hope you manage to get a nap, I just woke up from a 2-hour one

LittleSarah · 22/05/2009 16:03

June - Glad everything is the right way up for you! Phew. Next appointment on your due date? Lol, well you might have baby by then but either way you will no doubt be getting some medical attention around then!

Meant to mention earlier my home birth kit, box for midwives and gases were dropped off this morning and the midwives officially go on call for me this weekend. All go for the home birth.

Feeling very calm, got research done today, plenty more to do but should get done no probs a wee bit at a time. Also cleaned bathroom so feeling nicely on top of things!

Plus got my grant so shopping tomorrow for sure!

Hello to everyone, hope weather is nice where you are!

LittleSarah · 22/05/2009 16:05

Ooh have also booked highlights for next Thursday and will probably also do nails next Friday... yay!

PS Think I must be experiencing some kind of braxton hicks as I also get the extremely hard stomach sensation but nothing like contractions and generally not that uncomfortable or strong!

Tee2072 · 22/05/2009 16:32

Afternoon all.

Mental note: If going to Farmer's Market, go early in the morning. Much to crowded by 10am to get this pregnant lady comfortably through it! So we bought some fish and some asparagus and got the heck out of there!

Also didn't go to the Continental Market, as by the time I fought my way through Farmer's Market and then Boots and Tesco, was totally shattered. We're going to have a wander through there tomorrow, if I'm not too tired after having my hair coloured!!

I think I now have everything I need for baby's arrival. Although I still haven't actually packed my hospital bag!!

june great news on the turned baby! And about the already receded cold sore.

bigcar · 22/05/2009 17:03

afternoon all

effie, great to see you back

laura, glad all was ok, do go back though if you're at all worried.

june, what a pain! At least your lo is the right way and you know that for sure now! As you know, I'm with you on the crap hospitals, hope you manage to come to a decision you are happy with.

silk, filling yet somehow low in calories, your dds diet may be one I start soon Seems she may have understood this morning what she did yesterday, eating your favourite book may not be a good idea It's hard to stay cross with them at that age isn't it! Is she teething at all?

tee, I'm going to be induced on thursday, hoping to manage to avoid a cs if possible, although they seem to keep changing their minds My blood sugar has been well controlled since I started the medication with only one high reading so I'm hoping for minimal complications for me and lo! Are you having a cs? Round here you get the paperwork to register your lo with your gp when you register the birth, fill it in and drop of at the gp surgery. Normally when you get discharged from the hospital they give a letter to drop into your gp, either on the way home or within the next couple of days, so your gp should be aware of any necessary info. That said, normally your fist call would be either to maternity at the hospital or the community midwives if you have any problems in the first few days.

Can't remember who asked about health visitors They should contact you within the first few days, often before the midwives sign you off, so if you haven't heard, ask the midwife. Usually they are connected to your gp surgery so you could contact them through there. In a lot of areas they contact you antenatally, I had mine on the phone last week! They'll give you your red book that you use to record your los growth, jabs etc.

littlesarah, love the dress, must be very satisfying knowing uni is all done and dusted.

MrsMcJnr, hope that means your dh is on the mend, yay for a bit of time on your own!

doris, I'm disappointed your recipe is from a book, I was hoping for a proper medecine man type Does he know any cures for nappy rash?! And did I see earlier on the thread that you're not really called doris

Got to admit I'm not very tolerant of dhs usual pratting around at the moment and yes, crying at the drop of a hat over nothing, which usually makes me feel so much worse!

Well, my lo decided to panic me today and not move all morning despite my best efforts! I went up to the hospital as they have a drop in unit and sat on a monitor for 20 minutes, little bugger darling decided to start doing the tango and then had the cheek to get hiccups Obviously everything was fine, all the readings were good, so panic over, for today anyway

It's all getting frighteningly close now ladies!!!!!

Hope eveyone has a lovely relaxing weekend planned, waves to all

June2009 · 22/05/2009 17:31

You guys make me want to go and have my hair done :D

Off to wash my hair now ;)

Naat · 22/05/2009 17:37

bigcar LOL at "little bugger decided to start doing the tango and then had the cheek to get hiccups"... That's just so typical, isn't it? I'm laughing uncontrollably in front of the screen Glad to hear she's fine

chocciedooby · 22/05/2009 17:46

Don't talk to me about tears!!!!!!!!
I felt like such a bad momma after yesterdays "Poo Gate" that I got really upset after putting the kids to bed. I felt like I had handled everything badly, shouting at my little one etc. I just can't seem to control the emotions at all. Oh the joyful hormones....

DH off out straight from work for drinks tonight and then off to pals tomorrow afternoon to watch the Rugby for the evening.(I was also invited but no kids allowed). Then he was invited to go to Celtic on Sunday for the whole day. He declined that invite from his boss and I have to say I would have been pretty fed up if he had said yes. I am just feeling so tired and quite down today. I feel like my social life is at a complete standstill and his is blooming. Yes I am very but I know it will all be worth it once baba comes along.

DH is also away on business in the Isle of Man next week which makes me a little nervous with only 3 weeks to go at that pint. Nothing I can do but I asked him to try and limit things after that. When I spoke to MIL earlier today she said "you should never complain about DH working late etc etc". She was referring to him going to Celtic on Sunday. I said it was not work, it was social. I get really P*ed off when MIL supports everything her little boy does....arrrrh sorry for ranting.

chocciedooby · 22/05/2009 17:49

Just noticed that I typed "That Pint".....instead of "Point". I really do need a drink....

ermintrude13 · 22/05/2009 18:13

Ooh, you've all reminded me, must book hair appointment for after half term. DH won't allow any manicuring because he's going to check that my nails are extremely short before labour, having had his hands covered in deep red crescent marks that nearly broke the skin last time I gave birth .

Got a bit of a shock when I was doing my usual brisk waddle to the shops before picking up DS from school and had to stop because of big BH and pain in the fundament. I think the LO was pressing down hard at the same time as the BH, but it felt like a contraction and I was thinking - right, OK, how am I going to get home if this continues? It passed and I just carried on walking rather more slowly. Scary.

choccie Have a pint! Guinness is good for you. And down it in front of your MIL preferably

MrsMcJnr · 22/05/2009 18:13

Feeling so much happier after a more normal day my pal came round with her little girl who is 6 weeks older than my DS and we took the kiddies to the park and then the beach in my double buggy ? the kids got lots of attention in it and I now know which streets to avoid (damn lampposts in the middle of the pavements!) it was so nice to have a gossip and do what I normally do with DS. He was much happier too! DH is still unwell he was feeling better but decided to help himself to the kiddies? dinner of mashed potatoes, chicken breast stuffed with garlic cheese and wrapped in bacon with courgettes whilst I was out which as you?d understand has set his tummy off again and he is in pain
I also got an email from the head of midwives with whom I lodged my birth plan. It made me much more relaxed about having my baby there as most of it accords with what you?d expect of a low risk birth in the UK too. Sadly there are some things that made me a bit worried like the fact that Dads are excluded if you have any intervention at all including forceps, ventouse etc. The thought of going through those things alone is pretty scary but hopefully they won?t happen. The battle may still occur though over my thromobophilia and whether they will allow me to be considered low risk or not. There was a comment that made me sit up in his response that said that my condition meant I?d be monitored constantly. Alarm bells went off that that will mean not being able to move around, get off the bed etc so I have asked (via a very helpful Naat) for clarification on that point.
I feel like forwarding the info I got on to my private dr and telling him how wrong it is to scare women the way he did me about the state hospital and that his motive is clearly to secure the 8000 euro private fee he commands for a birth SO not going to my appointment with him next Thursday.
One thing actually. Babies are still given those eyes drops at birth here in Spain whereas in Scotland they had stopped doing that and I can?t remember why. Does anyone know what the pros and cons are? What are the drops for again? They are also given an anti-hep B jag and the Vitamin K. I am happy to consent to the Vitamin K as I read up all about it last time and decided that DS should have it. I?ll need to read up on Hep B jags too. Anyone know the pros and cons of that?
Right, how are all of you???

bunnymother · 22/05/2009 19:44

Evening ladies!

Quite post from me... DH on his way back from the pub - I'm w you choccie and the ! Your MIL's attitude of "never complain blah blah blah" is so crap, I would ignore her - that would really get my goat!

Bigcar - am chuckling re your naughty LO deciding to fox you...

Better run - have lovely weekends!!

bunnymother · 22/05/2009 19:47

OK, just another...

Oooh ermintrude - what a scare - do take it easy!

MrsMcJnr - aww, sounds like a top day! Glad to hear it

chocciedooby · 22/05/2009 20:40

Ermintrude - about downing pint of guinness in front of MIL. Would be delighted to. On a serious note though I feel so thirsty and really fancy a cold sparkling beer right now. I'm normally a wine or vodka woman but....

Thanks Bunny - has got my goat but have had lots of that kind of stuff over the years so take it all with pinch of salt.

My dh is still at pub in town. I have kids in bed and feet up now so chilling out here.

I do feel like DH is organising a social calendar before baby arrives. I am normally encouraging him to go out more as he doesn't really drink that often but when I get to 38 weeks I will be quite nervous about him going too far away and getting intoxicated.

Oh...He just called and will be home in 30 mins. Better make the most of this peace and quiet now and quit moaning.
