if anyone wants to see mine-- I'm on facebook as Steph Timms -bristol network xxx

Tee2072 · 15/05/2009 20:55

effie I think I just sent you a friends request!!

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 15/05/2009 21:06

Choiccy- you made me laugh so hard the first post but the jug and water. OMG I Know it's not funny for you but it is really, I am taking it as a lesson to myself to try and get something done with the "hairys" as the dd's call it. ( Don't think I was particilarly effective either time before, bit of a cut and dash in labour each time )

and Ermin that was just a VERY revolting image in my head bleuuurgh

tee hope you've been enjoying your first dayas a laydeee of leisure, make the most of it as I have a horrible confession..... it won't last once than lovely bump pops!!!

Effie congrats on your date, and I presume you've made your decision too. Well done you!Now you really are on countdown where most of us just have the wait, (although I guess the symptom spotting for labour in your case is a little more intense!)

LittleS I can't remember how old your dd is but it sounds just like the embarsassing stuff DD pipes up with at the quietest and least opotune moment!

Oh and Well done Silk

Right short one tonight as stayed up far too late last night watching, question time- very funny watching Margaret Beckett try and defend the indefensible!!! Whilst the audience did a fine line in heckles.

Had a sleep this afternoon (dh rang to say he would pick dd1 up from pre-school, so I wasn't worried about oversleeping), Didn't feel much better after and ended up[ with such dread ufl indigestion I ended up with my head down the toilet again!

Right back to ponder more baby names with dh, have both finished the book and are now at the name combining stage (I want the baby to have a middle name like the 2 dd's) (That and I want to watch have I got news!!!)

Night all

blueberrysorbet · 15/05/2009 21:08

hi ladies, sorry if scared you with my ranting a few days ago
choccie, midwives here do not exist like the uk. its the consultant who is there at the birth and is your "labour coach" you only see the consultant during your prgncy.
its too late to change now- other places are full, and it took me a while to find this place.

v funny re lady gardens- you can buy battery operarted or rechargable trimmers - either get one from boots for beards- not sure who sells the ones for ladies only
am getting hair cut 2moro, no pedi though as they will whip off my nail varnish anyway! am due cs.

another app with doc 2moro. he kept me waiting 2 hous last week emergency labour, then a VIP walk-in. was furious (with walk in) as chairs v hard and my ds was very very bored- no toys, obviously in the waiting room and he was fed up with the ones we bought) as was dh. this is private as well- must say nhs docs neverkept us waiting, they left that to the midwives

chocciedooby · 15/05/2009 21:49

Naat I would ask dh to do a trim for me but tbh I know that he would not be keen. He is not that kind of hubby unfortunately.Very much a mans man.

Glad I have made some of you laugh because gee some of us need a laugh right now, what with the aches and pains etc....I am finding these last few weeks a drag.

I can't get the image of Pavarotti out of my mind now . I had never heard that story before. How gross.

Question - why have I heard that the hospital staff remove nail polish? I don't understand why they need to do this.

I have my feet up now. DH cooked steak for dinner. My left ankle is soooo swollen its scary.

Just remember ladies, if anyones got it, Choccie has. I seem to be suffering from everything. I am doomed.....

ermintrude13 · 15/05/2009 22:01

A quickie to say goodnight.

Doris did you get to see Have I Got News? I thought Rolf did v well [grin[]

Tee luvverly bump - and nice outfit! Having no proper work to be seen at I really have been more of a slob than ever this pregnancy

choccie my DH wouldn't refuse to get out the shears but I think he'd be a bit nervous and that wouldn't fill me with confidence.

nail varnish - no make up is good when you go in for an op because they'll want to observe your skin tone - whether lips and nails are blueish can give them a clue about oxygen for example, so it's important they can see you au natural.

night everyone x

silkcushion · 15/05/2009 22:16

omg @ ladygarden horror!!!

Choccie - that is awful - I bet you're in agony.

DH would never never never in a million years trim me down there. He doesn't even shave his own face that well - you'd think at nearly 41 he'd have learnt how. He's not a metrosexual at all. I couldn't trust him wiht my bits and a razor. Tbh after last time I've decided I couldn't give monkey's about what my pubes look like

One more week left in work and then freedom!

Can't remember who had crap colleagues who didn't acknowledge her leaving. Very sorry for you - that happened to me last time. Not even a card or anything when I had dd - I felt quite hurt especially cos I'd worked with my team for a while and knew them really well.

This time round I've worked out what happened. It's because they were men. Last Wed I went out with my staff for a sort of farewell do (we're restructuring so I won't be the boss for half of them when I go back in Sept) and they'd had a whip round. My team this time has 3 women and it was them that arranged the card and pressies. I think it just hadn't occurred to the men last time (bloody useless aren't they?)

Got given a big box of Thornton's choccies, a snuggle?! for the baby (a soft blankety type thing) and a voucher for Chapel Spa in Cheltenham which is amazing. Have been reading the brochure tonight and they do a special pg range of treaments from a company called mamma mio. Definitely booking something for the week after I finish.

Also @ Pavarotti eeewwwwww

MrsMcJnr · 15/05/2009 22:44

Hey girls another day of shocking realities in this household? I only have 5 dinners in the freezer at this stage with DS I had 21 ? better get cooking. Doesn?t help that I have 10 for a BBQ tomorrow plus DH thinks that it is acceptable for him to go to the pub to watch football between 1 & 4 when the people (his relies mostly too) arrive at 5 honestly I do think he is on a different planet!! Anyway, let?s see how you all are?.

LittleSarah · 15/05/2009 23:25

MrsMcJnr - I think I probably have 5 meals max too but I didn't have any last time so I'm ahead! I am not doing owt more about it until the end of next week either, need to get this project out of the way first.

Pavarotti - UGH! Love the story, although how hideous!

Doris - Dd is five, oh, missed question time, sooooo bloody annoying! Sounded great.

Naat - I have said to dh could he give it a wee trim and he has consented. But as ermin noted it's so not a big deal really, I'm not really that worried on behalf of the midwives, last time it didn't even occur to me, but I just would prefer generally to keep it on the tamer side!

Talking of hair must phone hairdressers to get appointment asap...

Right, off to bed. Dh and I have our birth prep workshop tomorrow and I can't wait, don't think dh is quite as excited but I really want to go over everything and it makes it all so real, as far as I can remember.

Naat · 15/05/2009 23:25

Hi Juners!

ermin you've scarred me for life Boak boak boak! I'm giggling at this discussion about ladygardens

choccie I hope you're not sore anymore and that you don't have to use warm water to wee either I'm also finding these weeks like aaaaaaaaaaaages!! Hope your ankles are better soon, leave those feet up

silk one more week!! wohoo! And those are great pressies!!! It's obvious women thought of those

blue at your doctor! Hopefully it's all ending soon!! Do you have a date now?

doris sorry to hear about your indigestion... it's awful, isn't it? But good news on the names front, it seems you're getting closer (insert hopeful emoticon ).

effie and tee lovely bumps!

mrsmc oh this DH of yours we'll have to bring him back to earth... No, seriously now, hope tomorrow you don't get too stressed and he helps you... (Maybe ask MIL to get him "back on track"/ponerlo en orden al muchacho!!)

Right, back from last AN session, we made a great contact with a lovely couple who lives very close to us and she happens to be a translator (native English but works with Spanish)! What are the odds???

Really tired, it's so late! Hopefully we'll all have a good rest!! (insert hopeful emoticon!)

(((waves)))

Naat · 15/05/2009 23:28

xpost, LittleS!
Have a great workshop tomorrow! Glad to hear DH has agreed to your request
xx

MrsMcJnr · 15/05/2009 23:38

Choccie ? sorry to hear that you were caught off garden with the old Ladygarden every night when I have a bath I contemplate doing some gardening and then think what the hell, it?ll be something to do when in the early stages of labour (or else they shave you here along with giving you an enema ? I think not!!! ) I have got very lazy with the pruning since I stopped swimming with my DS 2 weeks ago. I am still waiting for my Strep B results. Should get them at my appointment next Thursday I think. Sounds like you had the more accurate high swab, god knows if I did mine properly hope you get the all clear and that the pain has eased (sensitive cervix getting ready for action?) Sounds like your baby and mine are a similar size just read about your antics, ouucccccccccccch! Reminds me of taking some skin off my nipple with the breast pump a few days before DS was born! Think they sometimes remove some nail varnish to see the nail bed as it can tell them about your oxygen levels if you have to go under the knife. I remember being so worried they?d ruin my manicure for the early pics with DS and you should see the state of my nails these days

Bigcar ? bless your DS with his birthday wish!

Daisy ? must have a look at that lovely book I know what you mean about DC stopping you from getting the chance for the ?urge? to develop. Yay FULL TERM I know exactly how you feel great looking bump lady! Like the name Fraser

Naat ? well done you on finishing that commentary hope you get a better night?s sleep tonight. Couple you met at AN sound like great friends for you I wrote a note to go with my birth plan today explaining what DD?s full name will be and why ? I don?t want them to call her ?Aaliyah Rosemary Mc Mc? just because I use my married name it felt weird to see it written down and made me worry that we hadn?t found the right name yet but overall I think we have.

Silkcushion ? LOL at your LO being covered in dust well done with the exam ? what a lady! I remember at Uni having a 3 hour exam and being so hung over that I had to rush and be sick in the middle, luckily it was an open book exam and we were allowed to the loo ? not my finest hour though lovely gifts ? enjoy!

Bunnymother ? sorry to hear about the insomnia so glad to hear that all went well at your appointment

Tee ? no way nothing from your co-workers?? That is so horrible enjoy relaxing when they are working, miserable bunch!!

Doris ? much good progress going on with you bet DD remembers that moment for years to come I remember helping my Mum get ready for my sister with very fond memories! Come on, tell us what names are on the short list!

Hello there Ermintrude ? hope the baby turning is working! gross Pavarotti story ? ugggh! Rolf was V funny I thought too!

Ineedmore ? I am the opposite, was much more organised last time round. Got the fairy stickers up last night though in the baby?s room and I LOVE them went to bed very happy

June ? what an interesting episode you had how are you feeling now?? I am feeling sick again most of the time now but haven?t had anything like you.

Littlesarah ? glad the scan went well LOL at your DD?s comment; don?t you just love kids? comments? So honest! hope the workshop goes well tomorrow

Loooouise ? LOL at your actress comments. How did your bro get on? How are you generally??

Effielou ? how exciting! You have your date I wonder how many of us will pip you (bet I don?t even though I am due 4/6) I?m 37+2 tomorrow ? hope baby gives me a few more days!

Blueberry ? don?t apologise, are you ok about everything? Really?

Bed time now, shattered! sleep well ladies

bunnymother · 16/05/2009 07:47

Morning ladies!!

My friend, insomnia, has me up and out of bed nice and early this morning. NOT happy! Esp as had friends around for dinner last night, and didn't go to bed till 12:30pm which is pretty much a personal best late night record for me these days. Poor DH has me snoring gently slumbering on him on the couch from 10pm most nights. And he can't get me off him as I now weigh more .

Ermintrude - just under 10kg - wow!! . That should be quite easy to move, then, hopefully! Eww, Pavarotti story. I am an opera lover, but he was not a beautiful man!!

choccie - my sympathies on the ladygarden situation. Not good at all!! I actually can't see anything down there (not exaggerating), so have to see a waxer and my trusted battery operated mower died 2 weeks ago. Tried to bring it back to life, but bloody thing has let me down just when I needed it most. Bought a new clipper thing, but it seems a bit overpowered and am worried that will be like a blind person wielding a chainsaw. Much damage could be done.

Other "beauty dilemma" is that can't get to my feet, either, and as far as I can see, am in real need of a pedi. DH has offered to do it, but he is not exactly metro and not convinced its the best task for him. So need to waddle off to a beautician and thrust my swollen, shabby feet at them. Pronto! Wouldn't be such an issue, but flip flops are really the only shoes for me at this stage. God, how shallow am I??? A whole post on how I look?!

LittleSarah - God love your little DD, she sounds precious. And I have to say, pretty spot on w her observations , although appreciate that sometimes you might wish they were not loudly expressed ...

MrsMcJnr - I am v liberal and understanding re DH's "domestic contributions", but watching football while you prepare for guests, esp his guests?? . Don't worry re only having 5 dinners ready, bet you can whip up a few more quite quickly. Esp if you make something freezable for one of your dinners soon, only on a v large scale. Or your DH could cook while you watch TV

Effie - ah, a date to look forward to - very exciting!! Congratulations!

Daisy - I was full term yesterday and DH and I were both quite excited about that. I feel v calm and happy to think that she can arrive at any time and it will all be fine.

Naat - I also get hungry when I wake up early. Just had a nice hot Milo (malted choc drink that I have developed an addiction for!) in the hope that I don't then need to raid the cupboards... I hope your insomnia disappears soon - you have worked so hard, so deserve to have some big sleeps! Congrats on meeting such a nice couple at AN class - they sound so well suited to you!

Silk - Excellent news re passing your exam - VERY impressive!! As is being able to hold on - all up, well done!!! And what thoughtful ladies you work with .

June - the same thing happened to me during the week. I had to go to M&S and eat scones and drink juice, then have a sandwich Seriously, though, made me a bit worried, but am now taking snacks w me when I go out. These turns come on so quickly!

Looouise - have my fingers crossed for your brother!

Anyone else getting some v big kicks these days? DH was patting my bump last night, and LO kicked him a few times (I think she is responding/interacting, any thoughts?) so that my stomach looked like a bag of fighting puppies. . Time to get out the video camera, like filming a wildlife documentary!...

Hope you had nice evenings and are looking forward to lovely weekends!

Tee2072 · 16/05/2009 08:06

Morning all

silk its me with the rubbish coworkers. And they are all women, so, so much for that theory. They are all just really insensitive and used to me doing that sort of thing. I don't think I have even gotten a birthday card from them, although I try to remember everyone else's in the office.

ermintrude somehow I missed the Pavaratti story the first time...wish I had missed it the second time as well.

mrsmcj you really need to tell your husband no!! You are not going to the pub until 4 when all of your relatives are coming at 5!! Better yet, hand him kid #1 and go off to the pub yourself.

bunny I get kicks like that regularly! And yes, I agree she interacting. My baby kicks like crazy when my DH sings silly songs to it!

As for me...horrid dreams all night about small children running to traffic and other danger zones. And 3 times up for wee.

In laws coming down today to stay for the night, so have got to get this flat into some semblance of sanitary!

Have a lovely day all!!

Effielou · 16/05/2009 12:02

Hi All.

I'm loving all the funny posts re pavagrotti etc makes me chuckle!!

having a peaceful morning= DH is at his Dads builders merchants- doing computer stuff DD is at kids sports club, at our gym and DS is watching telly and on the DS!! And quiet shhhhh not for long!! DH left me his laptop so I can stop from being bored-- and DS is happy cos I'm not making im watch saturday kitchen- for my James Martin fix!!

I'm getting excited now, I have my date-- but both DC came before their elective dates- so who knows== not that it would be safe for that to happen!!

We have a busy couple of weeks ahead its DD 8th b'day next sat so looking forward to that then the following sat -I'm being pampered at the hairdressers and DH is going to treat me to a pedi minus the varnish but like the ladygardens my feet could probably do with a blacksmith!!

Its geting so exciting now-- I just want to meet my LO and get on with it!!

I did consent to me being sterilised the Dr said aslong as they remove enough tube I should be completly infertile- I obviuosly know that that was going to happen but still a shock to hear that word infertile!!

24 days to go!!!xx

chocciedooby · 16/05/2009 12:29

bunnymother you had me laughing out load to "blind person wielding a chain saw"!!! I was owndering about those clipper things but not going to bother now.

I think I am going to give up on the lady garden altogether for the time being.

DH is upstairs bathing the kids so I have quickly grabbed the laptop for a quick post. Have my feet up. I can actually feel the swelling taking place .

Sleeping so much better this week

Pavagrotti effielou lol.

Hey Mrsmc - good to hear from you. Yes our babas do seem to be looking like a similar size don't they.I am getting so excited now.
Can't believe your dh wants to swan off to the pub for a match. He sounds like he would get on with my dh like a house on fire. My dh loves every sport on tv! I hope he changes his mind for your sake. You need to be putting your feet up.

DH has called me upstairs to help out drying kids hair etc now so better go. Back later.xx

bigcar · 16/05/2009 15:18

afternoon all

Well you lot have certainly cheered me up catching up this afternoon Pavagrotti, eeww, eeww, eeww, eeww, lol! Sorry choccie, but your exploits almost made me spit my glass of water half across the room Hope everythings feeling a lot better now, I've done my best but decided what I can't see isn't going to bother me! Bunny at chainsaw lol!

littlesarah, glad the scan went well!

tee, what a useless bunch you work with! I'm sure you'll be thinking of them working hard next week when you're sat with your feet up making the most of the crappy daytime tv

effie, yay on getting your date, hope your lo hangs in there until then

blueberry, vips get to queue jump, that's disgraceful, we all understand that emergencies happen but to get pushed aside for vips I really hope you're feeling a little more positive today, it does nothing for your confidence when you're treated badly does it?!

MrsMcJnr, thought your dh maybe coming to his senses, obviously not Hope your mil can deliver a swift kick up the backside for him, not something you need to be dealing with right now, sending you hugs.

silk, congrats on the exam sucess and 1 more week at work, hope it goes quickly!

naat, what are the chances of that! Glad the classes are going well

waves to all

Tee2072 · 16/05/2009 15:27

Afternoon all!

Had a very productive morning of flat tidying as In laws are coming to stay. And are taking us out to dinner!!

Now I'm off to have a bath. What a tough life I'm having so far!

Naat · 16/05/2009 18:26

Hi Juners!

tee hope you have a nice evening with the PIL

Hi bigcar! How are you?

choccie glad to hear you're sleeping well!! You absolutely deserve it after what you've been through lately!

effie enjoy the calm day!! Did you find a pressie for DD? I saw on FB you were looking for sth

bunny LOL at the blind with the chainsaw!! You made me giggle I think our friend insomnia is not leaving us alone, huh? Yesterday we went to bed after 12.30 and I still woke up at 5am... then napped from 11 to 1pm so I'm a mess! Oh and huuuuuge kicks on this front... seriously, yesterday I thought LO wanted out

mrsmc hope your afternoon was not too tiring for you, and that DH helped a bit at least.

Some more packing at the Argie's home today. Kitchen is done (what's not needed, let's say) so now the only thing missing is bathroom and books next wkend.

Crazy crazy weather here, rain and sun at 15min intervals

Right, DVD now

Have a lovely afternoon/evening, Juners!

(((waves to all)))

lauraloo09 · 16/05/2009 20:53

hiya everyone hope you have all had a good weekend

Been trying to catch up but can't manage it.

Thursday with mum was great and Angels & Demons is a must to see, I didnt read the book but for those of you that have the film is slightly different which mum wasn't thrilled about.
Last night I was at my aunt's 40th birthday party which was great!
Today was at ante-natal class, the final one before baby arrives and it was very enjoyable and informative. The thing is though from last night I have been having period pains below which come and go, this morning I was nearly in tears it was that sore. Baby is still kicking away happily tho. Midwife told me to phone hospital if pain persists, how long would you guys wait before phoning? I have't had a cramp for a few hours tho.

Will try and catch up at some point but so tired there is no way brain will take everything in

Hope everyone is keeping well tho!

daisy5 · 16/05/2009 21:24

Me too laura - I got period like pains this afternoon for about an hour but they've gone. I do remember the pain of the pressure hurting from last time, but not quite like this. I did wonder if it might be the baby was turning again, as major turns can be quite painful at this stage.

Your mum is right, if anything feels 'not right' or 'too painful', always better to get checked out.

But first, if I were you I would call the phone number on your pregnancy notes - for the hospital - it is the maternity ward/dept/triage - and ask to speak to a midwife and you explain the pain you are feeling. They are very good and don't mind. I have rung twice this pregnancy when I had peculiar pains.

ermintrude13 · 16/05/2009 22:03

Occasional period pains here too - I associate them with Braxton Hicks, there's usually some uterus-tightening at the same time. I wouldn't worry too much unless they become very severe or prolonged - or begin happening at regular intervals. Gulp!

My sister's sister-in-law had her 3rd baby at home this morning at 37 weeks - woke at 4.30am feeling a bit crampy, her DH went downstairs to phone the neighbour who was going to look after their DC while they went to the hospital, but when he came back he found his wife on all fours on the bed, having delivered the head . The whole thing took 40 mins and the babe was a healthy 9lb boy! Midwife and ambulance arrived to cut cord, deliver placenta and generally clear up, then she got back into bed.

We can all dream...

Naat · 16/05/2009 22:18

Yep, period pains-cramps here as well. These last few days my bump has been rock hard more often than not

ermin wow!!! remarkable!! And yes, we can all dream of such smooth, easy birth!!!

LittleSarah · 16/05/2009 22:19

Oooh ermin, that sounds like a great labour, I would love one of those about week 39!

bunnymother - Well done on staying up after midnight, I've probably managed that three times in the last eight months!

Good workshop today, there are usually 5 couples at these things but there was only us and one other today! I was a bit worried about it being too intense but it worked out really nicely.

Most interesting new fact learnt - weeping cervix. Sounds mad I know, but apparently there is this kind of new symptom being defined. Already existed but just getting its own name! A couple of you mentioned excess discharge, almost feeling like waters breaking? (I also had that twice last week). Anyway apparently collagen gets broken down as cervix thins (or something) and it then is released for some as this excessive discharge or 'weeping'! (Well that is what a very repected and experienced midwife is calling it). Does that make sense, it totally fitted in with what I experienced?

Also, my cousin is getting her dd a doll's sling/nappies/crib kind of set as a 'big sister' present and I think I shall be copying her! Here is an example of mini doll's sling - etsy sling and wee reusable nappy - etsy nappy. Love it!

Right, back to Eurovision!
