Can anyone help answer this one?

growth spurt question

Diege · 08/05/2009 17:37

That's an interesting question GYO! I suspect from memory feeding longer, but I'm sure someone else will know a lot more!
KAYZ, bad luck on bites - is there a repellent you can start slapping on?
Will be glad when dds are in bed tonight; this tiredness is crippling! Just need to get through tomorrow then I can collapse when dh gets back! Def the last trip away that he is permitted!! (mine are a different matter )

lastboxoftampons · 08/05/2009 18:00

Sorry I'm no help, GYO, but just by guessing, I'd say it might be a combination of the two. As she gets older, she's probably likely to be able to eat a little bit quicker, plus, she'll possibly be more alert between feeds which may speed up the process?

Can you tell I've been reading Gina Ford And we're actually going to give it a try

lastboxoftampons · 08/05/2009 18:01

Kay - yuck on the bites. I wonder what's so tasty about the back of your knees!?!?

Diege - sounds to me like you deserve a spa day!

Starshinetiger · 08/05/2009 18:05

Sorry GYo - can't help with that one with any degree of knowledge, but what I think is that the baby feeds more when they have a growth spurt, your supply responds on a demand and supply basis, then you have enough, so they get sated at normal feeding intervals, so go back to normal pattern. Pretty sure also that they get more efficient at feeding as they grow, so shouldn't feed from lots longer, but as I say, am no expert.

LB - so sorry for DS sickiness. So, will tell you how my DS got escalated - my Brother had pyloric stenosis as a baby, where the stomach causes the milk to come back up after every feed, quite often projectile style. If you read books, they tell you PS starts at about 2-4 weeks. Now my DS didn't have it, but as we had a family history, we got sent to Paediatric Assessment Unit and then hospitalised because of it being queried - wasn't it, but that got us straight on Paed list and in for appts until it was sorted. Don't want to encourage you to lie, but just telling you how we got seen.

Ses - so excited for you. You will be a brilliant Mum! Hope you aren't kept waiting tomorrow. DH working tomorrow, so not sure when I'll get to log on and check in, but will be thinking of you - how exciting, the next wagon baby!

Right, DD saw osteopath yesterday and there was a definite click - osteopath treated her while she was feeding and something went in her neck, she opened her eyes wide in shock, had a couple more sucks and fell fast asleep. No change yesterday and wouldn't settle this morning, then resorted to going to tescos and she fell asleep in car. Woke when we got to DH's work to drop car off, so he can drive home tonight, fed then went back to sleep on my shoulder - must wake her now so we have some chance of sleep tonight, but have been busy up to now getting DS' tea. Think on Sunday, when DH is here, will really try making sure we get to some sort of routine, not letting her sleep too long in day... wish me luck!

By the way, is it too early to open the Pimms? - bought two cans in Tescos today and was tempted to open one there and then - GYo, how did it go down with DD when you had G&T the other night - did it affect her feeding?

Right, really must dash. Nat - enjoy that wine

SesIsNowCountingdownthedays · 08/05/2009 20:38

Thanks for all the good luck wishes
DH and my mum have been and gone. DH will be back for 9am and could be anytime from then dependant on emergencies coming in.
Getting nervous now!

LB - if you're about and want to chat/offload, I'm here.

GYo - LOL at coherent posts from my phone! I guess I just have plenty of time on my hands (until tomorrow!)

Diege - boo for tiredness. Hope you get a refreshing nights sleep tonight.

Kay - boo to insect bites too! Citronella oil works well in case you have any.

sorkycakey · 08/05/2009 20:55

Good luck for tomorrow Ses

Hope you get somewhere with paeds LB. I'll meet you at your hotel if you like an walk into York with you.

lardybump · 08/05/2009 21:50

Thanks sorky that would be great... Its only two weeks away now....

Ses thanks for the offer but I think you have enough on your plate right now dont you.... I am really excited for you though... What hospital are you in??

SesIsNowCountingdownthedays · 08/05/2009 22:06

Am in East Surrey Hospital in Redhill. Only 15 mins from home so not too bad! Just having an apple as a snack as nil by mouth from midnight
I've now got 3 other ladies keeping me company. All of them are around 37 weeks. One in with twins, one high BP and the other suspected PE.
Babies are crying on the other wing of the ward. That could be my baby tomorrow!!

I really hope things start improving soon for you LB. You are being so strong and hopefully they'll get you a better appointment.

GruffaloSoldier · 08/05/2009 22:06

Hey everyone, sorry for being awol!

Just wanted to say Ses, good luck! Cant wait to hear your news, I will be lurking tomorrow!

Had a hectic week this week as Dh back at work and Gruff cub has developed colic It is horrific to see the little man in so much pain and so hard to get stuff done as i cant put him down as he gets so upset. Luckily its only in the day and we are all getting our sleep still. He is having colief (as suggested by GY0 - thanks!!) and also cranial osteopath that we were seeing anyway came today and he has been much better since. My c section wound is also infected so am now on antibiotics.

Im so relieved its the weekend and DH back home!

I have been keeping up with everyones news, just not posting. I will try and get on over the weekend now Dh is home. Hope everyone is enjoying their friday evening!

SesIsNowCountingdownthedays · 08/05/2009 22:10

Thanks Gruff
Sorry to hear about Gruff cub's colic and your infection. As you say, you have DH for the wkend now so hope you manage a better few days. Take care

Diege · 09/05/2009 07:59

Morning! Good luck for today SES - will be thinking of you! What an exciting day

Hi GRUFF - sorry about infection and colic. Remember dd1 having colic for quite a few weeks - every picture we have of her has a bottle of infacol in the background. You have my sympathies, it is VERY hard work with a colicky baby.
LB: sympathies too - must be very hard but you are doing so well xx Looking forward to the 23rd too - we'll have to see if my hotel is anywhere near your's too, so me, you and Sorky could maybe walk up together?

Dh away and dds up very early. Why is it that they have to be dragged out of bed on school mornings, but the whole slamming doors/toilet thing starts abotu 5.45 at the weekend? Anyway, we're all up now and will probably aime to get out early for a few hours as the weather doesn't look too good.
Hope everyone is well

Kayzr · 09/05/2009 09:10

Morning,

Ses, I hope everything goes really well today!! Can't wait for the announcement!!

Gruff, Sorry about the colic and your infection. I hope it all clears up soon for you.

LB, I hope DS has a better day today. I am so excited about meeting you all!!!

I might do some gardening today as it is really nice here.

Diege · 09/05/2009 09:55

Hi Kayz! Weather picking up here too, so going to brave the PO with dds then head to library/park. There's a plant fair on so no doubt come back with the usual decaying cactus in a pot!

juleswastink · 09/05/2009 10:11

hi

good luck ses

gyo - great news about giraffe will have a look @ other thread later.

have just bought book storage thing on vertbaudet musnt spend anymore now!! wont beable to pay it back!!

dh has taken dd1 to her eye appointment @ hospital i am nervous

juleswastink · 09/05/2009 11:52

hi
dh just phoned dd1 is long sighted in left eye needs glasses!!
has 2 wear them all the time. glad it isnt a squint like i had but glasses sound a pain and he is a very active child 2!!
have a prescription to go and sort them out later.

Diege · 09/05/2009 12:44

Hi TINKS! Don't worry about the glasses. DD1 had them from age 2 (now 7) and copes with them really well. They do some really funky ranges too if you go somewhere like Specsavers, and all free under NHS (Jasmine currently has simpsons ones, but went through Barbie ones, etc).
Just back from the village, and my back is killing me. Didn't have the buggy and had underestimated how hard steering 3 of them up the road, with two shopping bags and balancing plants would be! Still, at least we have got out. This afternoon it's dvds and as much rest as I can get!

juleswastink · 09/05/2009 12:55

cheers diege hun you are a gem you are the font of all knowledge. just what i needed to hear. i was looking on specsavers website that is where we will be going to get them in town, hoping to get little miss naughty ones she luvs little miss and mr men they are pink and purple.

tut tut you put your feet up missus and rest this afternoon.

SesIsNowCountingdownthedays · 09/05/2009 13:05

This is Ses's DH
Just to let you all know that Owen Edward Davis was born at 10:17 am weighing 8lb 9 onz she will be on later to chat.

Diege · 09/05/2009 13:08

Oh yes, I know my stuff when it comes to glasses . DD1 had the mr.tickle ones from SS -remember how cute the little miss naughty ones were too. SS are also great as they replace if they get lost or broken for free (or just want a new design if over a year old). In fact dd1's eye sight is finally improving (was VERY long sighted, milk bottle style glass for a few years) but she says she never wants not to have glasses as they are something of a status symbol in schools these days!

Kayzr · 09/05/2009 13:08
