I need clothes advice please. We checked with the railway and the dress code is smart casual. What the hell is smart casual???

Diege · 08/05/2009 08:34

Morning! Lol at broodiness GYO and KAYZ . I don't think it's something that I will ever feel again! Nothing quite like a 4th pregnancy to put a lid on it!
Good luck with the weigh in today GYO
KAYZ, smart casual is a tough one . I would generally think this would exclude jeans, so maybe smart-ish trousers and top sort of thing? The sort of thing you would wear for lunch in a nice restaurant, but not 'posh' enough for a smart evening do if that makes sense??
Hope all is well SES! Let us know the plans as soon as you do!
Had a worrying evening filled with bh - atv least 6/7 an hour. Feel much better this morning though, and think it may have been due to all the walking I did yesterday. Will try and get appointment next week to see midwife just to check up on things, but won't hold my breath..
Hope everyone is well! dh just off now to Lake District for 40 mile walk with work tomorrow so just me and dds until Sunday night. Hoping for some nice weather but being realistic!

Kayzr · 08/05/2009 08:37

I am most annoyed as I really wanted to get a nice dress.

Diege · 08/05/2009 08:41

Nice dress is good too KAYZ!!! Smart casual covers such a broad range of things, so dress-wise more than a t-shirt dress, but less than a taffeta ball gown

glaskham · 08/05/2009 09:20

Morning!!

Ses- good luck seeing someone early today to talk options of CS today... hope its all well for you, and hope you are all OK after the op.

Kayz- A nice dress would be classed as smart casual IMO.... some people do think jeans are included in smart casual, my sister included (though she does know how to make them look damn good!!) I'd say a nice maxi dress or something would be ideal...??

Nat- what a PITA that your DS has been put forward for a speech assesment, DD had one of them at 2.3yo and passed with flying colours and we thought she would fail miserably... they go on certain sounds etc,so even if he can't say a word right he may be saying the right sounds for his age. took them ages to get DD to even talk for them though!!

DH is on a late today so he took DS to nursery for me, and we got our first real smiles and first tears from ruby this morning!! the smiles were when i was making a fuss and pulling funny faces etc, and she has such a comical grin!! And the tears were purely for a feed, even though she'd only fed an hour earlier!! Why they're worrying about her weight when she's obviously feeding fine is beyond me!!

sorkycakey · 08/05/2009 09:20

Katz think wrap dress or something worn in an office job. It usually means shirt and trousers, not jeans for men. No trainers either according to dh, apparently they were given that info by work for a function last year.
Diege you are not shouting me lunch . I fibbed, I do have paypal but im not comfortable with any payment.

I'm going out next week twice, I've got more social outings than I've had in honks

glaskham · 08/05/2009 09:36

Just had DD1 stood between my knee's while i'm sat on the comp chair, i lifted my arm up and DD shouted 'hairs, hairs... mummy you need to shave them hairs!!' i mean i only did them the night before last and she's bossing me about!! its only because she tells daddy to shave his stubblebecause she doesn't like it when he kisses her with it!!

GYo · 08/05/2009 09:37

Agree with others on advice. Think wrap dress and nice shoes would be fab [grin

at two outings Sorky, I am most jealous

LOL Diege, will remember that about broodiness at number 4!!! >

going shopping today. Still not quite got to grips with having to go into pram friendly shops etc...

OP posts:
GYo · 08/05/2009 09:41

lol glask!

meant to say Kayz, about those 2 women. Think I would have been lessthan polite to them if they said that to me... and not having natural birth for big babies!! We will show them!!!

OP posts:
Diege · 08/05/2009 09:45

Lol GLASK at 'hairs' . Sounds like Ruby is doing just fine, love the smiles!
SORKY you naughty thing . Maybe just a scone and cream to cover p&p?? Honestly though, whatever's best for you - am just extremely grateful
GYO, it takes a while to get into the whole shops and pram thing. I used to dread bf in public because I was tutted at once, but like with most things the more you do it the easier it gets!
Have made appointment for next week to see mw. Probably being paranoid, but will feel better if I do before work trip. I have heard that Cardiff has a very good maternity unit though, plus wouldn't have to worry about childcare...
Right, need my leggings to hurry up and dry as sitting here in my knickers!

sorkycakey · 08/05/2009 09:46

Ditto diege re broodiness, soooo over it!

glaskham · 08/05/2009 09:48

me too re broodiness, and thats only after 3... though i think the hectic time with a prem sorted that one for me!!

SesIsNowCountingdownthedays · 08/05/2009 09:53

Morning all!

Still waiting here...
Didn't sleep too badly once the babies stopped crying at about 1am! All just preparing me I guess!

LOL at broodiness

Gyo - good luck with weighing but sounds like you should be fine

glaskham · 08/05/2009 09:57

i wouldn't worry about getting too broody too soon yourself ses...after the section you'll have 6 weeks of recovery first! but i think i didn't still have a tiddler i's be broody already... the thing that puts me off now is that i'd most likely need another CS... and have also been told it would be about 50% chance of another prem... wouldn't want do it ever again!!

glaskham · 08/05/2009 09:59

sorry for poor typing, am feeding at the same time...

idreamofbeanie · 08/05/2009 10:07

Ses - fingers crossed they let you know the plan soon.

Gyo - good luck with the weigh in. Sounds like she is doing great.

Yah for first smiles Glask. I am becoming such a sap - every time I read something like that I get a little emotional thinking about our baby's first smile.

LOL at 4th pregnancy being the one to finally kill off all the broodiness.

Diege - I hope the mw can put your mind at ease. Have your leggings dried yet or are you still lounging around in your pants?

Well I got home yesterday to discover that DP has bought a new motorbike . He has been after a bigger bike for ages and we can afford the payments so it's fine but just a bit out of the blue. He said that after pram shopping he realised he had better buy it now before we spend all of our money on the bean . I definitely won't feel bad splashing out on some lovely bedding and bits for the baby now!

SesIsNowCountingdownthedays · 08/05/2009 10:12

Too right IDOB Go splash out!!

Glask - I think I'm still broody for this one to arrive but hey, give it 6 weeks then!! My mum has already tried to give me the chat about contraception (!) as will the MW I'm sure

glaskham · 08/05/2009 10:16

Go for it IDOB... though i'd be miffed that he got a motorbike and you got a pram... big difference there!! haha!!

Ses- yeah i got all the contraceptive chats off MW, HV and GP... it'd blimin help if they just let me have the thing whipped out!! haha!! hoping i can get sterilised in a couple of months though anyway!!

Diege · 08/05/2009 10:18

ooh IDOB, that bike could work for you on so many levels Think of all the justified purchases etc etc - bedding will be just the start Leggings on now as fearful of parcelforce van arriving, despite wet waistband.
SES! I'd say you were lucky to get to sleep at 1am in a maternity ward! Get your dh to bring in earplugs if you're in over weekend. Do youn know if there's any chance of getting your c-section today??

glaskham · 08/05/2009 10:26

can i ask a funny Question?? to those fo you who've already had your babies.... first period after giving birth? i've been bleeding (but only a tiny drop each day) for over a week now... i'm thinking i'm having periods again because of giving the formula a couple of weeks ago, with the other DC's i didn't have them till 6mths old at least... and this period (or what i think is one) is very strange.... is it because its the first one??

SesIsNowCountingdownthedays · 08/05/2009 10:40

Sorry Glask, don't know...

Diege - no one has mentioned CS today. Just that it will happen at some point when they can fit me in and they need to get consultant approval first. May try and persaude them to let me go home for the wkend but then have made the mistake of googling cord prolapse on my phone and could be quite scary!

Fortunately I'm in an ante natal side ward with 6 other beds but only one of them occupied!

Diege · 08/05/2009 10:50

SES, I see what you mean about possible risks, esp as you're at term. I'm sure consultant will pop in at some point on his/her rounds? At least you have an empty-ish ward! Must be very boring though - have you picked up any goss on the person in the other bed?
GLASK, could well be a period, probably very different from a usual one while your body is getting back to normal. Had to wait for 16 weeks for mine after dd3 even when formula feeding, and do remember it being just a few spots. Maybe have a chat with hv?

tinkisthehungrycaterpillar · 08/05/2009 11:20

Good luck with eye appointment TINKS. My dd1 has only just been signed over the high street optician after 5 years of hospital appointments for her eyes. I know it can be stressful with all the waiting and tests etc. Rain here too!!
