Hopefully this has worked?

Bummer - I really like it.

skorpion · 20/05/2009 15:46

lissy - that's fantastic! Very happy for you. I found it such a relief on Monday, was afraid that I imagined things up until then.

LissyGlitter · 20/05/2009 15:51

skorpion Yep, same here! Somehow a line on a stick doesn't really seem like proof of a baby to me!

pedalmonster · 20/05/2009 16:15

YAY congratulations lissy. skorpion eat what ever you crave! Pah! All this nonsense about labour inducing.... in the old days no-one had these lists. If something disagrees with you, you will throw up. When a baby is ready to come, it will come, no matter what you eat or dont eat. Sorry for the scepticism but i know far to many mums who were 2 weeks over due and eating their body weight in pineapple and raspberry leaves.
However I do believe in not having alcohol personally (partly because the mere thought of it sends me screetching to a loo).
can't imagine all the things our grand mothers ate when they were preg - during the war times or when suppies were limited and you had to eat what you found!

scarlotti · 20/05/2009 16:33

pedalmonster am with you on that one. Maybe it's because this is no.3 but I see no reason why I'm more likely to get listeria due to being pregnant than not, and I'm more likely to get it from an unwasheld lettuce leaf than cheese!
Alcohol wise, I would have an occasional glass. Checked it with my gp and the liver metabolises the alcohol before it reaches the placenta - it's drinking a lot that is dangerous but apparently the government think we're unable to be sensible so tell us not to drink at all
Food hygiene is what's important.

pedalmonster · 20/05/2009 16:40

Scarlotti I think thats fine - i am not opposed to a preg lady having the odd sherry! Its just that I can't. have to say I'm not the last of the great drinkers anyway, half a glass of wine and I'm anyones! (which is how I got myself pregnant!) just kidding. kind of.

claired21 · 20/05/2009 16:59

Successful scan here too! Baby was asleep so sonographer had me dancing around on the bed to wake it up. Poor thing! Saw it kicking and stretching it's arms - AMAZING!!

pedalmonster · 20/05/2009 17:00

oh wow claired thats brilliant - congratulations! Makes it more real, doesnt it!

claired21 · 20/05/2009 17:01

Oh yeah, but due date changed to 29th nov which is a bit disappointing, want my baby now lol!!

ursigurke · 20/05/2009 17:11

Lissy and Claire, congratulations on your scan! Lines on sticks and even morning sickness do not have the same "quality" of proof than a scan!

Had a terrible nightmare last night: my husband took one of my boxes of Chocini (you only get them in certain shops here in the UK) that I had just purchased yesterday... luckily I realised that it was just a dream before I really got angry at the poor man in the morning

katster - Have you already decided about telling your husband or not (if I may ask)? Maybe there is a way that he could still have some sort of nice surprise effect.

ursigurke · 20/05/2009 17:14

sorry, Chokini. Should be allowed to eat them if I'm unable to spell their name. (I could recommend them though... well as long as you do not buy them anywhere around West London )

Laugs · 20/05/2009 17:19

Congrats to claire and lissy for your good scans!

I had a glass of wine the other night and I have to say it was lovely! It only made me want another one though. Actually, I've said I will go out for a friend's birthday on Sat night and I am dreading it. Not only can I not drink but I won't know most of the people there (and I am shy at the best of times). I keep trying to think of excuses not to go (which is stupid, she wouldn't mind) but then I think it would probably be good for me to get out of the house.

Are we not supposed to eat honey, by the way? I have been eating lots of it

ldeeanna · 20/05/2009 18:00

Kaster Youre having a boy!!! Dont worry, I think a lot of girls want girls because we think we can play barbies with them etc but just think how sweet little boys are-in their little boy pyjamas and a teddy-aah!! So much to look forward to!! About your husband-I wouldn't mention a thing-and just refer to baby as him all along and if he questions it-which he prob wont-just say I dont want to call the baby 'it' and also my motherly instinct tells me its a boy (tell him motherly instinct is most often right)!! This is what I would do anyway!!

Good news about the scans!!

Got a terrible headache-had it for three days now-my neck keeps crunching too which isn't nice! keep drinking loads of water but thats not helping!! Any ideas-is it silly to go to the doctors-what can they do anyway?!!

Tamlin · 20/05/2009 18:02

pedalmonster and scarlotti, agree with you about the food entirely. I spent my pregnancy with DS avoiding peanut butter even though I was craaaaving it at the end because I read somewhere that if you have a family history of asthma and eczema, you should avoid eating peanuts during pregnancy. Then, a few weeks after I have him, a new study comes out saying 'Wait! Eat peanuts during pregnancy if you want to avoid your tot having a nut allergy!' Gnnnnnh. So I eat my smoked salmon and my lovely French cheese (when I can stomach it) and feel unrepentant.

Laugs, I'm envious of your glass of wine. Keep throwing up dinner in the evenings (even though the all-day nausea has gone) so I better not chance it.

DS has been a little horror today. He was whining for juice (forbidden except for special occasions) and I said no. Then he saunters off into the kitchen, manages to open the fridge, locate his father's pineapple juice, unscrew the cap, and pour himself a glass - when I came into the kitchen to find why he was so suspiciously quiet, he leapt up guiltily and tipped it all over the floor while bolting for the exit. He's 19 mos. Think we need a fridge lock.

Keep feeling the baby flutter, and thinking dismally 'You're going to turn into a toddler TOO.' Prob not quite the right attitude to have...

Tamlin · 20/05/2009 18:03

Oops, I meant 'Sons are lovely! Really!' (races off to peel son off the bookshelf)

katster37 · 20/05/2009 18:46

Claired and Lissy YAY for scans!! Have we all been scanned now? How exciting!!

Tabbykat I would have been saying a lot worse, had a child just thrown a shoe at me - why did his parent not say anything? I find that at school too - quite often I tell parents about what their child has done, thinking I would be appalled if it were mine, and they just nod and say 'oh i'll have a word', or worse, 'oh, well he's only 7' (YES I KNOW BUT HE STILL THREATENED TO STAB SOMEONE IN THE HEART WITH A KNIFE...)

Thanks everyone, for all your reassurance about having a boy. I know it's silly, and really all I want is a healthy baby, but somewhere in my heart I had dreamt I would have a girl... Maybe DC2??! Also got a phonecall from the midwife today to tell me I am Rhesus Negative, which apparently is a bit of a pain, especially in future pregnancies. Does anyone else know about this / experienced it before? Apparently I have to have injections at 28 and 34 weeks, then after the birth and 72 hours later. Then if I get pregnant again, the same thing but will be more closely monitored. And I have to carry a special card around with me. Really surprised as both my parents are Rh+, but apparently it can happen. All v strange....

Laugs · 20/05/2009 19:08

katster I am Rhesus Negative (neither of my parents are either). My midwife forgot to give me my injections last time (luckily I am in a different PCT now) but apparently this doesn't matter as I had the ones after the birth. We did have to stay in the hospital an extra night as DD had to have her blood count checked (I think), but everything was fine and I didn't really mind staying in longer as I didn't have a clue what to do when I got home anyway! I'm not sure if this still happens when you have had the injections during pregnancy. I've had a blood test for antibodies in this pregnancy, but haven't heard anything so I'm assuming all is well.

Fruitpastels · 20/05/2009 19:09

Kaster If you have a little girl in the future then it's lovely to have an older son who will look after DD . Anyone have a feeling about what sex their baby is? I was so sure with DS that it was a boy. This time I'm not so sure.

Laugs · 20/05/2009 19:10

tamlin Isn't your son clever?! I quite like it when they're cheeky actually. DD has stolen chocolate THREE times when I've been being sick. I had to laugh.

ursigurke · 20/05/2009 19:11

Katster, interesting that you can be Rh- if both your parents are Rh+. Anyway, I do not know the exact details but as you said, you need injections and more monitoring but I think, nowadays they deal quite well with it and there shouldn't be any problem. They just have to check it to know if they have to deal with it or not.

katster37 · 20/05/2009 20:05

Fruitpastel interesting that you knew DS was a boy - I felt sure this one was a boy as well. I am sure there is something in this 'intuition' thing.

Laugs glad it is not just me that has Rh+ parents and is Rh- - I think my Dad was quite worried DH's Mum has just told me she is Rh- so DH has a 50/50 chance of also being negative which obviously would mean there wasn't any problem.

Tamlin also laughing at your DS!! How funny! What did he do after he spilt it all over the floor?

Oh, also read something about pineapples.... Not sure I really believe it - surely you would have to eat an awful lot to actually do anything?

BeckyBendyLegs · 20/05/2009 20:13

I've just tucked up my lovely little boys in their beds with not teddy bears but...an empty shreddies box and a cardboard tube. Boys are lovely

HomeintheSun · 20/05/2009 20:22

Hi all, I hope everyone is doing well. I haven't been on here in ages and I must confess I haven't read all the posts I've missed. We went to see the midwife on monday for the 16 week check and heard the baby's heart beat for the first time, it was so good to hear, I could have listened to it all day and I've felt the baby move, the first time was about two weeks ago.

skorpion · 20/05/2009 20:29

claired we can push together then, as we're due on the same date! It seems such a long time. Congrats on the scan, wonderful news.

pedalmonster, scarlotti my instinct tells me you're absolutely right, thanks. I've been completely paranoia-free and relaxed so far, maybe just trying to find stories to loose the peace of mind a bit.

I have to admit that when I found out I was pg I really thought that the thing I would miss most would be sharing a bottle of wine with dh. But I am not even tempted, and don't even mind him having a drink. Must be the body doing its thing to protect lo.

I would it to be a boy, my sis has three and they are all yummy. I'm just not into pink, girlie stuff myself and think, even if it is a girl it would be brought up to be a bit of a tomboy. No shrieking. Girls shriek too much once they turn 13. I know, I've been there.

skorpion · 20/05/2009 20:36

beckybl that's just the sweetest. Are they building a tank, do you think?
