Laugs the freelance juggling babies life is hard isn't it? It gets easier as they get older (esp for me now DS1 is at school - free childcare!!!).

I find it really hard if someone says 'oooh let's just have a coffee' and we wonder into a cafe. There is nothing I want to drink, not even tea, the smell is totally vomit-inducing (coffee yuck yuck yuck). I miss wanting a latte and muffin mid-morning. Instead all I want is a glass of squash and banana Or prawn cocktail pringles...

skorpion · 13/05/2009 10:36

Good morning All, bit of a nasty turn in the weather...

manfrom - welcome, how exciting with the twins! My sister is keeping everything crossed for me to have them, too. Mind you, she is three years younger and already has three boys, so I suppose it's only fair... Would be great though. Congratulations.

Good luck for this week's scans. I really think I must be one of the last ones, Monday can't come quick enough.

I've been experiencing a weird symptom for last few weeks: every time I get up from a chair or bed my head swims, things go dark and woozy for a couple of seconds. Is this normal? I noticed that my bp dropped from my usual but is this the reason? And will it stop, please?

Hope you all hae a nice day x

Laugs · 13/05/2009 10:40

Yes, I'm really missing going for coffee or for lunch. It used to be my little treat with DD and our friends when I am off on a Friday. I'm going away with my parents this weekend and for some reason keep panicking about what we're going to do about dinner! We're only staying over one night, so it would be nice to eat out, but the evenings are by far my worst time for MS and I don't want to be sick in a nice restaurant. I don't know why I am worrying about it though!

The freelance juggling life can be really hard, although when it all works out I do think it works quite well with motherhood. It just depends on the day for me! Ask me how I feel when I have two...

BeckyBendyLegs · 13/05/2009 10:47

Skorpion low blood pressure can make you woozy when standing up. I get it too sometimes. I've always had relatively low blood pressure.

sleeplessinthecity · 13/05/2009 10:51

skorpion it happens to me too. It may be an iron deficiency. Check with your GP or MW and get some supplements. I go off meat when pg so my iron levels fall dramatically. Hope you feel better soon.

I'm resorting to essential oils..peppermint and ginger..has anyone tried it? I'm so desperate to feel better.

skorpion · 13/05/2009 11:20

BBL, sleepless - thank you. I'll try some supplements. I have to say that I've gone off meat, too, could be the reason.

sleepless - sorry to hear you're not feeling too well. I hope the oils work a treat.

I find that I completely conk out in the evenings, yesterday didn't even wait for it to get dark before going to bed.

I am just about to take on some freelance work in addition to the day job. It's only a few hours a week that I hope to build up to something more substantial over time and keep up after the baby arrives. Obviously, ask me again in December, but I do hope that one kid, especially early on, isn't so hands on 24/7. I'll look into buying a sling to keep it close. Aren't I ambitious...?

turtle23 · 13/05/2009 12:26

skorpion-My scan is Monday too. Still seems ages away!

skorpion · 13/05/2009 12:36

turtle - I know, everything seems so dragged out. I don't show yet, can't feel anything moving, haven't seen it yet... Can't really believe that it's almost a third of the way through. I'll think of you on Monday, hope all will be well.

ursigurke · 13/05/2009 12:56

pedalmonster - it's very nice of worrying about me. In fact, I did the shift plan myself so no one to blame. And I don't regret it as I was really careful and took lots of breaks. And I actually think that I always get incredibly tired between 5 and 6pm, it doesn't really matter if I have been working or not.
BTW, I'm fine now but I used to feel less sick when I was busy. I think I kind of forgot about it.

Question to those expecting twins (and just out of interest): What's the current NHS-policy about giving birth? Do you usually have to get a C-section or is it more common to have a vaginal birth?

manfrom · 13/05/2009 13:44

Laugs - RVI for us too. Very impressed so far. Really friendly.

Skorpion - you never know! Apparently a 1/80 chance of a multiple, better odds if you've got it in the family.

Munchies - how did your family/friends react? Ours have been a mixture of shock, delight, stunned silence! To be expected I suppose.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 13/05/2009 14:46

Afternoon All. Long time no speak! Internet has been down [grrrrr] and I have been very out of touch with the world! But it is now back on YEY!!!!.

I had scan last week, all was well, dates out very slightly. I am due 18th Nov and will update the list in a mo, had the nuchal scan and combined risk is 1:14000 so happy with that.

Am now in my 3rd week off work sick with hyperemesis. It is much better, am holding down significantly more liquid than I was before, but not eating very much. I am sick much less but that is a lot to do with not eating much, most food makes me feel sick just thinking about it, and it changes from day to day, but basically anything with flavour does not stay down. Milk, thats the best thing, and Dr today said it would be ok for me to drink build up drinks as long as I check with pharmacist to make sure the one I pick is ok. (I should have asked for prescription but it was over the phone and I did not think of it). I am eating so little that now I feel weak and shakey.

I have headache almost constantly, permanently tired, skin has gone to shit and I am really not enjoying this pg so far. It has not stopped me feeling excited about having a new baby though and I remember that (or try to) when I feel my lowest.

Anywaym enough moaning and I shall start the mammoth task of reading the 100's of posts to catch up on how everyone is doing.
xxx Good to be back.

turtle23 · 13/05/2009 15:35

pavlov- poor you! hope you feel better soon.
ursigurke- with twins if both are healthy and first twin is cephalic (head down) most hospitals leave the choice to you. You are allowed to have healthy twins vaginally regardless if you stand up for yourself.

(Am still secretly hoping that my scan will reveal twins despite the knowledge that I'd have three kids under two if that happened!!)

Fruitpastels · 13/05/2009 15:46

Pavlov - you have really been through the mill . I hope in the next couple of weeks it starts to get better for you. Just had to remind myself from the list if you had children. It must be so hard when you have a young child to care for as well. Did you feel this bad with your last pg? The build up shakes are brilliant. My midwife advised me to go on them when I had my booking in appt, as I had lost too much weight. For me, the MS started to ease soon after and I didn't need to take them, but have used them in the past when I had a few bad bouts of tonsillitis and couldn't eat. They made me feel so much better and it opended my stomach up which made it easier to get food down me. Hope you manage to drink them. Glad all went well with the scan!

ursigurke · 13/05/2009 15:51

turtle - your are hoping for twins? Wow. I have to say that I am actually happy I will only have one... well, I guess with twins even my husband would understand that our 4th floor flat is not ideal

pavlovthepregnantcat · 13/05/2009 15:53

fruitpastels can you recommend any particular build up shakes, not sure which one to have. Not chocolate flavoured, it will not stay down! I did have MS with DD, but not this severe, and it was more like food coming back up again then over and done with for a bit, although I was sick up to 3 times a day. This time, I feel really ill with it, it is actual vomiting rather than just expelling undigested food (sorry, tmi ). Dr said it is usually better with second child, Pah! what does he know! I certainly did not feel so low with DD. I think having DD to look after does not help, neither does DH not working, as they are both here much of the time. When it was just me and DH, he worked, so if I was unwell I would take a day/few days off work and sleep/chill out on my own. Now, I have a mess of a house to sort out/noise/interruptions/expectations.

Laugs · 13/05/2009 16:04

pavlov I was just thinking about you this morning and hoping everything was ok as we hadn't heard from you for a while. Sorry you're feeling so ill! It must be awful. That doctor is talking rubbish - I was only sick twice ever in my first pregnancy and this one am sick every day (nowhere near as bad as you though). My cousin also informs me that Kate Garraway is the same with her second, so we are in good company! If your DH is not working, can't he help you out / do all the housework?

manfrom yes, we were at the RVI last time too and they were really lovely. I'm sure we'll be in safe hands. Nice to know someone else going there!

Fruitpastels · 13/05/2009 16:10

Pavlov I can relate to how you must be feeling. When the MS was at it's worst, I wasn't eating either. You get weak and tired. I also have a 3 yr old DS who is full of beans. It was really hard going. I think the most popular drink is Complan. It's availbale at Boots in a few flavours. I've used these ones and they taste ok. It's a bit pricey though and you don't get many sachets in the box. I would ask if you can get it on pescription. It's worth it though as I think a sachet is equivalent to a meal. Good luck!

pedalmonster · 13/05/2009 17:29

Pavlov poor you - with DS1 I was soooo ill, i lost a stone in the first 2 months and was admitted to hospital twice to go on rehydration drip. was off work for ages! it carried on till about 26 wks! This time round I am managing it completely differently though. Not going to work till at least 9.30 instead of trying to get there for 8am; buying waitrose ready meals instead of cooking; housework - um - what?; and I have outsourced my ironing (stroke of genius!. But I am still fairly ill and throw up most days.

I feel terrible for those of you who are going through terrible MS but eventually it will ease off (resist the urge to throw something at me pls!!!)

I still find that when nothing else stays down ,plain or ready salted crisps work a treat.

oh just thought - pavlov have you had your scan? maybe yr having twins too?
turtle I also secretly hope for twins - just seems so efficient.
ursigurke I dont know how you manage on the 4th floor! Well done you!
skorpion yes I get that black-out feeling when ever I exercise - um, and by exercise I mean stand up, climb stairs, lift DS1 out of the bath... also I am always out of breath.
Anyone else have a huge bump? usually quite slim so bump is very obvious now.

BeckyBendyLegs · 13/05/2009 17:51

Pavlov you have it really bad I really hope you start to feel a bit better soon.

I've got DS1's cold so am feeling really snotty. I've just sneezed my way around Sainsbury's and it was interesting the looks I was getting from other customers. I wanted to shout 'IT IS NOT SWINE FLU!!!!'

lemontop · 13/05/2009 18:18

pavlov poor you. That sounds horrible really.

My shoulder pain has got much worse. I went to the docs but unfortunately there's nothing he could give me cos I'm preggers. He checked my blood pressure which was normal so at least I know it's nothing nasty pregnancy related.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 13/05/2009 18:21

I have just realised there is a man here! Manfrom, its not just zygotes etc you will be hearing about here, you will learn a lot about haemerroids too!!! . Seriously though, congratulations on twins! I can safely say, that regardless of the extensive sickness, there is one baby only in my womb, scans have confirmed!

southernbelle77 · 13/05/2009 18:41

Evening all! Been trying to keep up to date with what is going on but it seems to go in one eye and out the other today

Sorry pavlov and others that are really suffering. I had MS really bad with dd but thank goodness it seems to have not hit me so hard this time and today I haven't really felt sick at all which has been nice!

DD got sent home from school today. Think she has tonsilitis again if her throat is anything to go by! Will see how we fair tonight and then off to the doctors tomorrow if no better and still has a high temperature. We have been snuggled up on the sofa this pm and have let the minded children just play seeing as no one would come and collect early! Will be working tomorrow too. That's one thing about my job I hate. Parents need me so I feel I should work even though my own dd needs me Seriously considering my options when on maternity leave.

Ninjacat · 13/05/2009 18:44

www.everyoneactive.co.uk/Home/tabid/36/Default.aspx

Just got an everyone active card which in Bristol means you are entitled to free swimming for pg laddies.
Don't know about the rest of the country but might be worth a try.

SB - sorry about your lo. Hope she perks up soon

pavlovthepregnantcat · 13/05/2009 19:12

Damn ninja why does everything seem to stop before the westcountry!!! Nearest is either you or weymouth, its a bit far for swimming I think!
