Hopefully this has worked?

OP posts:

BeckyBendyLegs · 12/05/2009 18:14

PS Do you do Oxford Reading Tree at your school? DS1 and I are getting really into Kip, Biff, Chip and Floppy's adventures with the magic key at the moment! I work for Oxford Uni Press so it is weird reading their books with DS1.

Laugs · 12/05/2009 18:14

Just popping in to say Hello! I'm making a veg curry and can hardly bring myself to stir it, let alone taste it, let alone actually eat it!

Becky how do you manage working from home? I work from home now too, but just do mornings while DD is in nursery. I'd like to carry on once the baby is born if I can get myself organised enough.

Katster thanks for your kind message! I'm having my scan at the RVI in Newcastle. I haven't been there since DD was born, so that will be quite strange. I'm starting to get quite stressed about it but trying not to worry too much. Unfortunately I am really short on work at the moment (am freelance) so haven't got much to take my mind off it.

brightonbaby tell us all about your wedding too!

BeckyBendyLegs · 12/05/2009 18:28

Laugs I do two hours in the morning while DS2 is at nursery. Then another hour and a half when DS2 has his nap after lunch (although he is starting to grow out of his nap so this might be a problem soon). Then just bits during the rest of the day - I confess to using CBeebies for a bit of work time when I need it. I also work evenings if I have to and weekends while DH takes them to Sainsbury's or into town. After DS2 was born I started work again when he was six months and just managed when he napped for a while then he went to a childminder two mornings a week and DS1 was at preschool. It isn't easy but I manage to get about 15-20 hours a week on average. What sort of freelance work do you do?

brightonbaby · 12/05/2009 18:44

Laugs We're having a small family wedding and I'm really looking forward to it. We've tried to make it as stress free as possible...although the timing of the next scan (next Tuesday), and if it's not good news, could be the worst thing ever. But, I am trying to be optimistic, or rather, not to think about negative outcomes.

katster37 I'm certain about my dates, so it is in fact a little small for its age (lower 5th centile!!). Still, I'm resting a lot and eating a lot more fruit and veg, willing it to grow.

Will you be at Kings next Tuesday? I had to wait almost two hours yesterday, eek! and that was about the average waiting time!
Have fun on your seaside adventure tomorrow!

Tamlin · 12/05/2009 18:54

Becky, I used to work for OUP as a lowly minion while finishing off my thesis, and my sister still works there in the academic div. Jolly small world...

katster37 · 12/05/2009 18:54

BeckyBendyLegs Yes, sorry, KS1 is infants - year 1 and year 2. Key stage 2 is y3,4,5 and 6. And yes we do do Oxford Reading Tree! Are you in publishing, then? I used to work for Nelson Thornes and then magazine publishing for a few years before I went into teaching!

Brightonbaby yes am at King's on Tues at 12. Is that when your second scan is? I know - the waiting in that department is ridiculous. I was also waiting over 2 hours last Friday, and witnessed some v irate people screaming at the receptionist! I did wonder how a 9.30am appointment could possibly become so delayed....

Laugs try not to worry about your scan. I do realise that is impossible! But think how amazing you will feel at the end. I burst into tears when she said 'there's your baby's heart beating' and I could see it really clearly on the screen!

BeckyBendyLegs · 12/05/2009 19:09

I work for the academic division! Perhaps I know your sister Tamlin!! I work on Oxford Scholarship Online and we publish academic titles online so if she is an editor I will definitely know her name. Katster publishing is my game - academic publishing mainly, and reference. Exciting stuff.

brightonbaby · 12/05/2009 19:57

katster37 No, unfortunately, it's in the evening. So, time for a nice lot of backlog appts. to gather up! Hope your scan goes well on Tues.

FairyBex · 12/05/2009 20:14

Pedalmonster I've got my scan on Friday too. I'm in at 10am - when's yours.

If everything goes well then we'll dropping in on DH's family then staying with my family for the weekend and to tell everyone. Fingers crossed for then.

hobnob57 · 12/05/2009 20:17

Good luck to all for those forthcoming scans. It's such a tough time, full of doubt and excitement, and at the same time all of the normal pregnancy cues seem to change and you're not quite sure what's going on.... well, I hope that for most still at the 12 week stage the MS really winds down for you around now. It's nice not to have to carry a doggy bag with you everywhere

helips I did tell my instructor I was pg and to be honest she hasn't been as helpful as I thought she'd be, even though she's a physio and a mum of 3!! I'll obviously avoid anything that hurts or is on my belly. We've started using balls this session, so there's a lot of exercises which roll the ball along the thighs but I think I can get away with them for a wee while. I have separated abdominals so I just want to find out a) what's helpful for them during pg and b) what's bad news to do.

I have SOOOO many reports to write and I can't concentrate for toffee in the evenings. I'm SO dead! (sorry, this is going to be my whinge for the next 3 weeks. 40 for Thursday (only managed 10 so far), and another 43 for a week on Thursday after that. Grrr)

Speaking of pregnancy brain, mine has crept up on me unnanounced. I thought I was doing pretty well this time around until we lost the hula hoop we bought DD last Monday. DH insists I brought the stuff out of the car, and some of it is definitely in the garage as I type. However this hula hoop has gone AWOL. I'm pretty sure I remember putting it into the car at the shop, but what happened to it after that is anyone's guess. My current guess is that I brought it inside for her to play with, but we live in a small house and there aren't that many hiding places and DD's eagle eye for change would have spotted it by now.... Total mystery.

LissyGlitter · 12/05/2009 20:24

My midwife is coming tomorrow to book me in! Nervous! From what I remember from DD, they listen for the heartbeat at this appointment, so I hope everything is ok!

Munchies37 · 12/05/2009 20:38

Hi manfrom - congrats on the twins! We're also having twins - found out on 23rd April and it's still kind of sinking in. I just figure one lot of MS, one lot of labour and two lovely babies at the end of it. I've spoken to loads of people now who have had twins, they say it's hard at the start but that they wouldn't have had it any other way and love having twins.

I'm just over 14 wks and MS is still bad - even on cyclazine I was being sick, but apparently it gets worse around 12/13 weeks with twins and then much better from 16 weeks. Basically the MW said that I could double everything with having twins so MS would be worse and I'd be falling asleep all over the place - and she was right!

Welcome to the group!

As for everyone else, sorry I've not been on for ages, but I've just been feeling horrific. Glad that scans are going well, hope everyone is feeling much better soon! XX

hobnob57 · 12/05/2009 20:39

Oooh, suddenly had an urge for a Bailey's there! Darn, I was relying on not having these report-induced cravings this time since I haven't wanted alcohol for months . Not that I ever really drank much at all anyway.... weird.

LissyGlitter · 12/05/2009 20:46

hobnob I had a craving for lager the other night! I satisfied it with a small shandy, and god was it good!

lemontop · 12/05/2009 21:47

Evening all

Another day, another weird and wonderful pregnancy complaint. I've got a really painful left shoulder. I haven't pulled a muscle or anything and it started hurting just when I was sitting at my desk yesterday. I've googled and as well as the usual 'you're going to die' diagnosis,it was suggested it might be wind trapped down below! How weird is that? I'm glad I've had a scan as it's a symptom of ectopic.

katster good luck with your trip. I spent this morning traipsing round the British museum with a load of teenagers who kept disappearing at every opportunity. I haven't told them I'm pregnant so they were laughing at how unfit I was going up and down the stairs.

I think it's about time I got back to my wedding spreadsheets!

hobnob57 · 12/05/2009 21:53

For those teachers out there - I just wondered about when you intend to tell the kids? Lemontop I see you haven't yet. It's just that with my last pg, the Head was so keen to advertise I had to stall her until after my scan and I could tell the kids as soon as the advert went out. This new Head is advertising this week, I am 14 weeks, yet she doesn't want me to discuss it with my classes until we've appointed!

I'm forseeing parents spotting the advert, asking children is it's their teacher and me having to clean up a bit of a mess 'unofficially' until the interviews are over!

hobnob57 · 12/05/2009 21:54

PS, managed 20 reports today. 20 tomorrow and I'll be there! Of to catch up on some LOST....

Tamlin · 12/05/2009 22:04

When does everyone get their twenty-week scan appointments..? Do you get a letter, or does your midwife tell you?

Just wondering, because DH's work tends to be manically busy, and the more advance notice we can get the better... It's not even as if I can go on my own, I'd never cope with DS in the room by myself.

lemontop · 12/05/2009 22:20

hobnob I'm in a slightly different situation as I work in an FE college. They won't need to advertise for my job as they'll just divide up my hours between the non permanent staff when I go on maternity leave. I think I'm not going to say anything unless the students ask me. They're mainly teenage boys who are not behaving very well at the moment!

tamlin I made my appointment for my 22 week scan at the hospital reception when I went for the 12 week scan. It's on 6th July which seems soooo far away. I guess it depends on the hospital?

Tamlin · 12/05/2009 23:18

I never got an NHS dating scan since I did the nuchal privately - sod, I better get in touch with the midwife...

ursigurke · 13/05/2009 07:41

Morning all!
Tamlin - At my first appointment with the midwife, the receptionist gave me appointments for the first and second scan and the next normal appointment where I am supposed to get my notes and the blood test results (five weeks after the tests btw...)
I guess it depends on the hospital but I would definitely not wait that they get in touch with you.
Congrats to manfrom!

Had to work a 9 hours shift yesterday and feel ok (but could barely walk yesterday evening). Worked with a lovely colleague who asked me every 5min if I didn't want to sit down. She was almost a bit too careful. In a couple of weeks I'll be really happy about colleagues like her so I don't want them to get fed up with me too soon.

Laugs · 13/05/2009 09:30

brightonbaby I'm sure your wedding will be lovely. I can see why you're worried about the scan, but I'm sure you'll be on such a high afterwards once you see your baby has grown and able to tell everyone after you tie the knot. Babies have growth spurts in the womb too, so it's bound to catch up in no time.

Becky I write for magazines. With DD I managed to work a bit until she was 10 months (when I went back to work). I went freelance when she was 18 months and for about 6 months I did juggle writing with her naps. She started nursery at 2 and has now given up naps altogether. I just can't imagine being organised enough to fit it in with 2 children. Like many writers, organisition is not my strong point. But I might have to. The last couple of months work has really dried up and there's no way I could afford to pay for childcare for 2 at the moment.

I am definitely feeling more sick now than I did before. It is supposed to be easing off! I am also devoid of any kind of social life, everyhting makes me feel sick
go for drinks
morning coffee
out for lunch
play in the park (hayfever)
cinema (sleep-inducing!)

pedalmonster · 13/05/2009 09:46

Morning All!
fairybex my scan is on Friday 2pm! How are you feeling about it? I am so terrified that sometihng will be wrong.... since I am practically ancient (39).

ursigurke please be careful - a 9hr shift is hard work even for non-preg people!
Don't know about anyone else but the busier I am the sicker i am.

Moan time - sorry ladies - bl**dy DH forgot for the zillionth time to put the bins and recyc out this morning - after I reminded him about 4 times yesterday and last night. So I had to run out in PJ's looking dead glam, with toddler indoors screaming at the window (he was alone inside), in the rain, with all these variations of bins / buckets / bags that they give us these days. Honestly - that is his only job at home! Thank goodness I am WFH today as it has made me very sick!!

Was thinking that I would update the list today....will give it a go!
