Hopefully this has worked?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
southernbelle77 · 06/05/2009 17:13

Oh BeckyBL bananas are yuk!! Not been able to eat one since I had DD and it's even worse now!!

southernbelle77 · 06/05/2009 17:16

Oh Kaster that sounds horrible about work! Hope you are really feeling well enough to go in tomorrow as it's not good for you if you still aren't well.

Oh, and whoever it was that asked about the nuchal scan results, here we don't get them straight away. We used to, but now they do the neck thickness at the scan and then you have to have a blood test and you get the results either on the phone in the next couple of days if the result isn't so good, or by letter if it's ok! The surgery I had the scan HATE it and think it's a dreadful way of doing, but that's the primary care trust I suppose!

BeckyBendyLegs · 06/05/2009 17:33

Ooooh Southernbelle how can you say bananas are yuck? They have saved me during my most sickiest moments over these last few weeks. Whenever I felt that need to throw up I HAD to eat a banana and it worked! DH nearly got into deep trouble for eating the last banana in the house once.

katster37 · 06/05/2009 17:36

Southernbelle that's awful how they notify you of nuchal scan results - how mean. I would be terrified every time the phone rang!
Well, told work but am thoroughly dreading going back!! I am such a wimp!
My scan is in 40 hours.... Not that I am counting, of course...

tigger32 · 06/05/2009 17:40

Evening All,
Congratulations on all the great scans

Good luck to all those having scans in the next few days

I'm going to see my doctor tomorrow as I can feel myself going mentally down hill again (I had to come off antidepressants when I found out I was pg)
Not sure what she can do but really hoping she can suggest something as I hate feeling this low
I feel like such as a bad mum to my ds's as I'm constantly telling them off and never have the time or energy to play properly with them Ds 1 is being really rude at the minute and constantly answers me back and I'm sure its down to vibes I must be giving off!

Really sorry about the me me me post

BeckyBendyLegs · 06/05/2009 17:42

We have to pay £200 for a nuchal scan here. Is that normal? I'm not sure whether to have one or not. I think it'll be too late in a week or so time anyway and I think I'm too scared to do it (am having the triple test at 15 weeks). I didn't have one before but I am a bit older this time...

Also we have to pay £50 if we want to find out the sex of the baby at 20 weeks. I'm sure that can't be normal!

BeckyBendyLegs · 06/05/2009 17:45

Hi tigger poor you. Pregnancy and looking after children is really stressful at the best of times and not being able to take medication must be making it doubley hard for you. I hope your doctor can give you some advice or alternative suggestions.

I'm sure you are not a bad mum. I was having a few 'I am a bad mum' days last week because I was so stressed about my scan and I was struggling to cope with the DSs in the evenings without getting really ratty with them. It is hard work but I am sure you are doing the best you can

katster37 · 06/05/2009 17:47

BeckyBendyLegs that's awful. Is the triple test the same thing? Also it's usually less than £200 to have it done privately, so that really does seem quite steep.

Tigger I really feel for you. Can you speak to your midwife? I also have a history of depression and mental illness and at my booking in appointment, midwife referred me to the perinatal psychiatry centre where they have weekly drop-in meetings both ante and post natal. Is there anything like that near you? I hope your GP is helpful as I know how awful it can be. And try not to feel guilty about DSs. I'm sure it's not that they are picking up on your emotions, maybe just tired and irritable?

tigger32 · 06/05/2009 18:03

Hi becky and kaster thanks for your support, the problem I have with telling my midwife is that any signs of depression and I can't give birth at the birthing centre so will have to go into the city. My doctor however is a family friend so I'm hoping can help out!?
I will see what she says tomorrow and take it from there, Kaster, the drop in centre near you sounds good, have you been? What do they do there?
Thanks again for listening

Ninjacat · 06/05/2009 18:12

Tigger the following may be of use to you (NHS advice to GPs)

Tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are the antidepressants of choice in pregnancy.

  • TCAs are well established for the management of depression in pregnancy, but their use may be limited by adverse effects, safety in overdose, and the need to titrate the dose.
o Amitriptyline, imipramine, and nortriptyline, are preferred.

  • SSRIs are the drugs of choice for women at high risk of self harm.
o Fluoxetine, citalopram, and sertraline are preferred. However, fluoxetine and citalopram are not recommended in breastfeeding, so try to establish the woman's preference for infant feeding.

If possible avoid using paroxetine, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, venlafaxine, duloxetine, mirtazapine, and reboxetine during pregnancy.

The use of St John's wort is not recommended for the management of depression during pregnancy.

Ninjacat · 06/05/2009 18:13

Tigger - I'd like to add that the fact you are questioning your behaviour means you are definitely not a bad mother. We all get cross with our children when it's not their fault but the fact that you can empathise with how that might make them feel is the main thing.
The only really bad mothers I know are the ones who think they are the worlds best parent. They never question themselves.

Sending (((Hugs)) and support your way.

BeckyBendyLegs · 06/05/2009 18:17

Ninjacat that is exactly what DH said to me when I said to him last week 'I am a bad mother!' He said 'if you are questioning yourself that shows you care and you are trying your best'.

Oh no no no BeckyBL please don't even talk about bananas as I might well have to go and vomit (sorry tmi, lol!!!). I honestly can not stand them!! They are the food of the devil!! I have to buy them for dd and the children I mind, but I have to hold my breath while I open them!! They are not good!!!!!

I've turned back into a really squimish freak again this week too! One of the boys I look after had a VERY runny nose earlier and whenI went to wipe it I had to quickly run to the toilet as it made me retch so much!! God help me if any of them do a really disgusting nappy or throw up while in my care!!!

southernbelle77 · 06/05/2009 18:40

Belguimbun - I hope the doctor is able to help you out. It can't be nice for you . Take care of yourself and we are always here to listen x

The 12-week scan is free and that is for just dating the baby but a nuchal one is not. Is that not the norm?

I won't mention yellow bendy fruit again on here southernbelle I wouldn't want to cause you to throw up on your computer

At least you didn't call her Belgianbum!

12wk scan here in Bristol is for dating purposes only (and if you've had an early scan you are not entitled to a 12wk scan!!! )
Nuchal scan and nasal bone etc have to be done privately.

20wk scan is the first where they look for any abnormalities. Oh and your allowed to buy a picture of your 20wk scan but not your 12wk.

BeckyBendyLegs · 06/05/2009 19:37

I live in Shrewsbury. Sounds like similar system as you Nanjacat. Belgianbun so not fair you get all that for free!!!!

I'm too scared to weigh myself! I have no idea how much weight I have put on. I prefer to live in ignorance.

BeckyBendyLegs · 06/05/2009 19:38

Oh dear we are all at it. Sorry for calling you Nanjacat, Ninjacat!

Ninjacat · 06/05/2009 19:43
