never really thought about my waters going last time - and they didnt. they broke them right at the end and i didnt even notice it. DH said there was hardly any water anyway so bump must have been mostly baby.

my sisters waters went woosh all over the maternity ward floor! she said she heard a pop and when she stood up it all went. sounds much more exciting than my story.

dont you get free stuff if they go in tesco?

Hobnob ? that?s great news, congratulations

Evie - hope things are quieter for you and you manage not to worry too much

After my appt today I?m back on for natural birth. I have another scan at 36 weeks to check growth and there is talk of induction if reach due date. I?d really like to avoid that if possible.

I can?t get to my feet either and am trying to persuade dp to cut my toenails. He thinks I?m joking so far but not sure what to do for the next 2 months!

My raspberry leaf tablets arrived so will start them on Sunday when I hit 32 weeks. All feeling so close now !

Breast pads ? I still have washable ones which are fine, but for the really leaky early times will definitely get boots or tommy tippee ones. The cheaper ones aren?t absorbent at all and just bunch up as mij says.

Last time my waters broke in my sleep but a pop or something woke me up and I managed to get to the toilet before they made a mess. My nightmares were about it happening at work!!

EvieBear · 07/05/2009 19:53

hi all

so far so good with me -thanks for the kind words- i have everything crossed it stays that way too! my boss has been very good and has said that i don't need to come in very much between now and due date as the commute to our new offices is horrible for me so i'm happy with that. have to say though, working from home is very dull!!

my big mothercare order arrived today - v exciting (i ordered a big box of tomee tipee breast pads for the record)! and my cot mattress from john lewis... all i need now is the pram and nappies etc...

names are driving me crazy, i have a few but i don't know if i've put enough effort into the process and whether i'll think of nicer ones when it's too late?!

antenatal classes are going great - had the 2nd one last night.

right better get some food, baby is telling me it's time!

bye

rubyriley · 07/05/2009 21:03

EvieBear Glad you're getting yourself sorted and things are settling down for you

hunny thanks for your comments, it's good to know I'm not alone when feeling fearful

Gillyan Gosh, your birth story is a real OMG one with a happy ending and a silver lining in that you manufacture nice thick cords so don't have to worry about knots in this pregnancy!

Likeyoursleeves Huge congratulations on your scan. I have two boys, expecting a 3rd, and actually wanted a 3rd (though DP rather fancied having a girl) little boys are FAB!! Straight & honest, I LOVE THEM!!

Asked my midwife today about Braxton Hicks contractions as starting to worry me; she said that the more children you have, the more severe they are and nothing to worry about. They generally settle down & go away (which is what mine have been doing, though get a cluster of them together) So, that's a relief, and as baby continuing on curve a week over the average max line on the graph, clearly everything IS fine. Phew!!

Take care everyone!

xx

ilikeyoursleeves · 07/05/2009 21:11

Jet I put a few bin bags under the sheet on my side of the bed in case my waters broke and I also had one stored in the car just in case! My waters actually did break in bed (along with a pop!) but I managed to get to the loo before it all wooshed out. I think I wore pantyliners all the time too just in case.

I can't wait to go out to buy some little boy things. I think I was looking forward to having an excuse to buy loads if it was a girl and was thinking I shouldn't get anything if it's a boy as we have loads already, but then I realised that this DS will be a summer baby so will need different things to DS who was a winter baby- that's my excuse anyway!

I have felt so tired today, came home to a bombsite too as DH had DS all day ARGH! DH thinks he has tidied up but failed to notice a zillion shreddies all over the floor At least that's me off til Tuesday now...

Beccabump · 07/05/2009 21:27

Hey Ladies,

Spoke briefly to my mw yesterday and for a lady who wants everyone to experience a hb she was very concerned about the possibility of the consultant allowing me to go for a hb because of a combination of possible big baby and the SPD. Been thinking it over and have decided to go armed with a list of possible scenarios to the consultant appt!

My initial feeling is that I would now rather be in hospital because of the distance from home to there (1hour +) if any problems were to arise with myslef or baby. I may sound selfish but I don't want to risk damaging my pelvis any further trying for too long to deliver baby.

However, I don't want to be at my current hospital!!! Purely for logistical reasons in that DH can't drive and if I have to be in overnight we would have to try and get family up to stay with DD at home and to run DH in and out of hospital as needed. If I were able to change my hospital to another in the region I could be taken in and out by Dh's parents as they are only 20 mins away from there, DH could visit much more easily and DD could be looked after the whole time at Grandma and Grandad's (a huge treat for her!). I feel I would also be far more relaxed during labour and birth knowing DH is easily available.

Sorry for rambling, trying to get things straight in my head!!

Gillyan · 08/05/2009 00:41

Hey everyone.

Glad you're all well.

Benn to a friends wedding today. had a lovely time and my DD sang Daisy Daisy infront of 300 people, with a microphone. I'm so proud! And she caught the boquet!!

Bit peed off though as 3 poeple commented on my size and looked shocked when I said I had 8 wks to go. 2 of them kept saying 'your massive' ' you sure it's not twins' honestly, the nobs I could of punched them!

waters I woke up to mine going and thought I was wetting myself. They went with a gush and kept going so much that I had to just hold a bath towel in between my legs. They kept going for hours too and I kept having to change the pads. I'm hoping it's just a lot of fluid I'm carrying again this time.

becca do what is right for you and arm yourself with as much info as poss for your meeting with the doc. Make sure u get your way.

feet although I have been making DP put foot cream on I could actually cut my own nails and do varnish today, but did it on an odd angle.

BonzoDoodah · 08/05/2009 10:43

My friend had a good story about her waters breaking .... it was her last day at work and she was on a crowded rush-hour bus on the way there - laden with presents for the office people. Anyway sitting there she felt her legs slowly getting wet and there was a sticky sweet smell (which she'd been told to expect). REALLY embarrassed she jumped up and dashed off the bus at the next stop and stood there in the street with sopping wet trousers. Only as the bus pulled away did she realise that her carrier bag was dripping and it was one of the bottles of wine that had broken. Ooops!

Patchybob · 08/05/2009 10:50

Hello everyone, well I survived the inlaws! They went today thank goodness as I couldn't have put up with much more. MIL told DD theat she doesnt like any of our name choices (I had avoided that discussion with her as I knew she wouldn't) but poor DD is so excited and was crushed when bloody Nana told her she didn't like them.

SHe also proceeded to ignore the dc when they got back from school, sitting in the garden with her back to them while they bounced on the trampoline (so she could soak up the sun) She then offered to come and help when DH goes to Australia. I think not, bloody woman. Sorry for the rant.

Was up all night with DD last night as she has croup, the baby was kicking like mad, I think it could hear her coughing!

I got DP to paint my toe nails for me the other night! He did a very good job too!

Hobnob that is the best news, just fantastic to hear! You must keep in touch.

Anyway, totally exhausted so planning a lazy day on the sofa, think I deserve it after putting up with inlaws! (Won't see them now until after the baby is born and they can't stay here again as the room they use will be the baby's!) xx

Gillyan · 08/05/2009 11:12

Oh patchy I sympathise with the MIL's!

woollyjo · 08/05/2009 13:41

Day 1 of potty training with dd, not managed to get a wee anywhere near a loo or potty yet ... any advice welcome.. I even sat her on, read a book and sang songs then she got up put her pants and trousers on then had a wee - great!

I'm measuring 34+ weeks when I'm only 32+ Dr not too concerned but worried it might interfere with home birth plans as I REALLY don't want to have to go to hospital this time.

washable breast pads sorry not sure where mine came from (possibly avent?) as they were my sister's. I wouldn't wear them under a tight top either but BFing and tight tops don't really appeal to me as I always seemed to have one boob bigger than the other, not to mention the jelly belly .....

Gillyan · 08/05/2009 14:06

wooly when I potty trained DD...

I didn't really decide to start training her, I had a potty in the bathroom all the time and would encourage her to sit on it if I was doing a wee, she soon got used to weeing in it if she needed to go. Then I waited till we had a sunny day and we spent the day in the garden and I put her in a short skirt with no knickers on and put the potty in the garden, then it didn't matter too mcuh if she made a mess, this worked and she soon learnt.

I should add that she knew when she was weeing and pooing in her nappy so was able to tell me etc.

Struggled with the poo's but only for about 2 weeks and she learnt to get to the potty. She was 2yrs 3 months and out of them completely in the day.

She still has one on a night now ( she's 3.4 ) as she just doesn't wake up at all and wee's in her sleep and still wakes up with wet nappiy. We tried her for 2 weeks with no nappy on and putting on the loo before our bedtime etc but she's just not ready yet.

Good luck!

JLo2 · 08/05/2009 16:21

woollyjo How old is she? I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but she may well regress with potty training when the baby is born - it is very common. Would it not be better to wait for a bit until she seems more inclined?

becca 2 of my friends are pregnant and have elected to go to a different hospital rather than their alloted one, you shouldn't have to explain/quantify your decision to your midwife or GP. It's litterally a case of going in and saying "just to let you know I'm electing to go to [insert name of hospital] for the birth, is there a form or anything that we need to fill in to confirm that?" and she should then fill in a transfer request form and put it on the front of your green notes. They may well ask out of curiosity but you shouldn't have to argue your case. Just as an aside I had horrendous SPD with DS2 who was a big baby but still had a homebirth, the most important thing is that wherever yiou give birth your midwife knows about it and also that you know the best positions for giving birth in (i.e. not flat on your back with your legs spread!)

woollyjo · 08/05/2009 19:06

Jlo2 she is 2+4, I hadn't planned to do anything until later but she is a nightmare to get a nappy on, will take it off unless she is wearing trousers or tights over it and has spent the last week demanding that the nappy is changed for every little dribble (we use washable ones so she is probably more aware of it).

We did manage one wee in the potty in the end, think it was more luck than anything else, tried to make a really big deal out of it but she just walked off!

Hoping tomorrow is better!

Mij · 08/05/2009 20:31

Lollipop QueenFee is on the mark - second hand definitely the way to go with slings if you can, the more worn in they are the softer and easier to tie/wrestle with they are, in a lot of people's opinion. The Kari-me is a little more stretchy than the Moby I believe, and holds its shape a little longer between washes, according to my mate who has both. If you're feeling dedicated, you could try checking out wearyourbaby for some good instructions on how to make a variety of styles, but also have a look at slingmeet cos if you there is a local tribe of slingers who meet up regularly, there are usually people very happy to lend you theirs until you find what suits you.

waters mine broke in the back of the car when I started to want to push, and made quite a pop too. The MW had luckily suggested to DP that he covered the seat in towels, but as I was on all fours and was way past caring about anything other than concentrating on contractions I've no idea how much there was! The car seemed to have survived, anyway .

potty training we had a very easy time with DD to start with, cos she kind of did it herself at about 22 months. But she was in cloth so was aware of being wet plus had always had lots of nappy-off time so had, literally, seen herself weeing on the floor , we'd had potties around for ages so she'd got over standing in them/putting them on her head, and we only properly ditched the nappies when I realised she'd been taking herself to the potty for almost every wee for about a week. But she did go through several regressions over the last year, all for different reasons. And since I've been PG, she's been back in nappies at night (she ditched those herself four days after being dry in the day - she knows her own mind, my DD ) cos she just stopped waking up when she needed a wee and we ran out of bedclothes! Have to admit, I wouldn't want to start at this stage in the game beyond just seeing what happens when its convenient for you both, but you know what's best for you . We found that wild celebrations of success worked with DD - she was jubilant too - but then she was a bit young for other stuff like charts or whatever, and just delighted in getting our approval.

QueenFee · 08/05/2009 21:13

My DD was not at all inclined to potty training at all. I stressed about it as we got to 3 and she had 2 weeks before starting at the nursery at the infant school. Then one day without any prompting she came down took of her nappy and used the potty and we haven't looked back since! She was in nappies at night till 4.5.
My DS I am tried to train for the same reason he is 3 in August and starts the nursery in september. He is not interested however and got himself all worked up to the point of constipation and a sore tummy as he was holding everything in. I just hope we have another self trainer!
Good luck. From what I can gather it's best to give it a few days before you give in.

my waters never went they popped them with DD and they went minutes before I gave birth with DS. In case anyone dosn't know this (I certainly didn't) you have 2 sets of waters fore and hind. My hind waters went but these apparently keep replacing themselves so this was ok? I still don't really understand it and the same thing happened with both.

Phoenix · 09/05/2009 09:42

Morning all, I'm back from my short break . We went in a caravan in Bridlington for 4 nights, it was ok very glad to be back in my own bed. Weather wasn't so good though.

I have been reading on my phone while i've been away but have forgot a lot of it .

Brilliant news hobnob , so pleased for you.

I never thought about waters breaking at all last time and they didn't, they were popped at the hospital.

Potty training - My ds had said for ages that he would never wear pants and wanted to wear nappies forever. In April this year (he'd just gone 3 in the Feb) the nappies in his nappy box were running out (we had more but he didn't know that ) so when we used the last one out of the box we told him we had none left and he would have to wear pants and he just did it. No accidents and was weeing and pooing on the toilet or potty everytime and we even went out in town on around day 3 i think. He did brilliantly

Me - Blood testing is going well and has been below the level every time i've tested and i'm getting used to not eating chocolate and sugary food. I've got the mw on Tuesday and hospital on Thursday (to do with GD). Very lively baby that seems to love kicking me at about 10pm, hope it isn't a sign of things to come when he is born .

Have a good weekend. I'm going to bingo with my friend tonight for the first time ever and i'm actually very excited

Hi ladies, not really got much to report. I've got my 3D/4D scan tomos but I was just wanting to ask the ladies who've already had one if u feel like the surprise of seeing your baby has been ruined? Part of me really can't wait to see the scan but I don't want the surprise to be ruined. I hadn't even thought of this until my friend mentioned it.

Really starting to get pissed off with my dad still living with me, I'm just so used to having my own space and he's been here for over a month now and still not showing any signs of moving out.
I wanna start turning the spare room in to baby's room but I can't until he moves out.
Also I feel like I just want lots of 'me' time whilst I can cos once baby arrives I'll hardly ever get a minute to myself.
Anybody got any ideas of how I can start dropping subtle hints or am I just being selfish?

Well given up on the potty training.

DD insisted on putting the potty away every time I suggested it this morning, then wet herself and asked for a nappy.

I wasn't about to argue as I was going stir crazy in the house and have had a bad night (leg cramps, aching back and pevis, disco baby) and DH is working so second day of going solo.

Try again in September may be

hobnob57 · 09/05/2009 19:47

Thanks for the cheery messages you guys .

Just wondered if those of you who have other DC would mind filling me in/keeping me up to date with your childcare arrangements pre- and post-birth? We'll have to decide fairly soon whether or not to take DD out of the childminder when I go on Matty leave, and whether or not to put her back to the CM a day or so a week afterwards. She will have started nursery by then, so will be out of the house for those 5 half-sessions a week anyway. I just remember feeling SO tired and disconnected in those last few weeks that I wonder if DD and I would drive each other stir crazy or whether it would be a cherished time with just the two of us. Hard to tell from this end, so you ideas and experiences would be welcome!
