Reggiee - It's good to hear you are doing well. I just read your birth story. Fast and furious, wasn't it? First vaginal birth lasting just a few hours. I'm glad it all worked out and you are enjoying your lovely little baby

Just one little thing - are you still taking painkiller suppositories? If so, consider changing over to pills, and/or eat lots of cooked green vegetables. I ended up with anal fissures after about a week of taking suppository painkillers after DD's birth. From what I read, you don't need additional pain down there.

Gert2a · 28/04/2009 11:49

A quick question:

Will I be able to keep my hand help pregnancy notes?

Gert2a · 28/04/2009 11:54

Reggiee - fantastic birth story - thanks for sharing it.

Chocbunnies - good luck for Friday, enjoy the day.

Belgianchocolates · 28/04/2009 11:54

Gert Hand Help pregnancy notes? Lol, I know what you meant. No, unfortunately once lo is born they get filed into your hospital notes, so if you want to keep them, make your own copy when you're term.

Gert2a · 28/04/2009 11:56

Belgian - thanks! A freudian typo there! My job for this afternoon is to go find a photocopier in town!!

Belgianchocolates · 28/04/2009 12:01

cote I think where you live is like Belgium, they quite like giving suppositories . My mum takes them all the time and I struggled to find oral liquid paracetamol for my dcs when I was at home and ds had a temp. Anyway. Generally if you've had an epis in the UK they'll give you a suppository right after they suturing and then switch to oral once that has worn off. No one is ever sent home on suppositories in the UK as far as I've encountered in my 4.5 years in midwifery. So I think Reggiee will be OK from that point of view.

My osteopath just phoned to see what's happening and if I've had the baby yet. That was lovely of them, wasn't it. I miss going to the osteo, I can really feel the difference, but with the head being engaged, I don't really want them to start rocking and manipulating my pelvis, IYKWIM. I'll be back 6 weeks after the birth though. I have this feeling that after dd, my pelvis was never quite in line properly again, because the 1st few days it was actually worse rather than better.

runningmonkey · 28/04/2009 12:03

Morning all,

Reggiee good to hear from you. Wow at the speed of Ben's birth too! hope the piles clear up soon.

Am sending lots of positive birth vibes llareggub's way. Hope she is ok.

I had the best night's sleep in ages last night - four hours straight. Woke up dead stiff and absolutely bursting for the loo tho, DH said I looked like our friend's 15month old who has jsut started walking as I hobbled to the bathroom

I've got a plumber here fitting a heated towel rail in our bathroom - he looked at my bump and asked how long I have to go... think he may be a little worried I'm going to pop while he's here

Have just done my first ever online grocery shop - much easier than pushing a trolley around the supermarket and I got to watch Jeremy Kyle at the same time (please excuse that, first day of mat leave treat!!). In case anyone is interested sainsbos are doing free delivery Tues, Wed, Thurs if you spend over £100. No codes or anything needed.

runningmonkey · 28/04/2009 12:05

Ooh just seen your post choc - hope all goes well for Friday, look forward to seeing pics of you looking fabulous in that gorgeou dress xx

runningmonkey · 28/04/2009 12:06

sorry, gorgeous!!

Jael · 28/04/2009 12:16

Hiya ladies, sorry i haven't been on, i've been sleeping loads...still not very well, had another "migraine" on Saturday, and got taken to hospital again, and another Sunday, a really bad one, where I lost my speech for two hours, it's horrible, it really is, and to top it all off, i'm petrified about thursday...i know i ended up having a CS last time, but i was kinda out of it by then, this time i'm going to be wide awake, i'm so scared about the spinal, it's giving me nightmares and panic attacks...I didn't know we were posting mobile numbers on FB, i'll try get on to post mine later, then if anyone wants to keep me updated while I'm inside, I'd be really happy. Jael XX

Belgianchocolates · 28/04/2009 12:32

jael Poor thing. Of course you haven't been on MN if you're so unwell. I wish you all the best for Thursday. Hopefully this time around it'll work out better for you. Don't worry about the spinal. I've seen them being sited loads of times. In your case you'll more than likely get a consultant or senior anaesthetist too and they can get them in in seconds. It'll be over before you even realise what's happening They also numb the area before inserting the spinal. Honestly it'll be fine. I hope you wont have any more migraines. I think sleeping and resting is the best you can do for yourself at the moment. Take care, we're all thinking of you xx

I wonder how llare is getting on? Would she be in labour yet?

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 28/04/2009 12:37

Jael You poor lamb (I'm too scared of needles to have an epidural - I would rather moo though hours of pain than suffer a tiny prick (I'm not talking about DH here......ooer Missus) - can't give blood properly either as have crap veins). I really hope things improve for you and Thursday goes ok.

I have discovered Reese's Nutrageous bars. Oh dear. I really wish I hadn't. It will be hard to resist. Crappy chocolate, peanuts, peanut butter and caramel. I usually only eat expensive dark chocolate very occasionally. Now I'm eating the most exquisite crappiest chocolate bars imaginable - peanut butter kitkats are a fave too. And Bounty's. Can anyone see a choc/nut combo thing going on here?

Must eat fruit......I still have some banana bread and blotted does have that recipe for Jaffa Cakecake which involves oranges........

And piles? They're shit. I had them with both DDs and generally found that keeping incredibly well-hydrated helped immeasurably. All the ointments smell really strongly as well - I used to get paranoid that everyone would know that today I was using Anusol or Prep H or whatever. Reg I hope yours get better soon

PMSL at rabbit conversation. Something to make you laugh: can't actually reach around my bump so if not getting any with DH, not getting any at all!

runningmonkey · 28/04/2009 12:54

Oh Jael big hugs from me. No need to apologise to us for not being here when it sounds like you are having a really tough time of it. I hope Belgian's words reassure you, I know that they would for me. I hope Thurs goes well for you. xx

Grumpy I'm not supposed to be eating peanuts but am with you on the crap choc front - usually am a green and blacks girl at least but have been munching merrily on crunchies which I usually hate!

Belgianchocolates · 28/04/2009 12:57

Oh 1stMrsF Just to let you know that I did order that bra and your code saved me £6 all together. Not bad at all, so thanks again. At least your code hasn't gone to waste
After seeing your bump, I'm not surprised you cant get around it!

My baby has decided to spend the day uncomfortably wedged under my ribs somewhere. I can't find a comfortable position and it hurts at the back and front of my ribs. grumpy I think I need some of your crappy chocolate to feel better. It sounds very yummy that reeces bar... I think I'll go and indulge in a slice of bread with 'hagelslag' (like chocolate sprinkles) that my parents have brought over for me. Yum

Momino · 28/04/2009 12:57

Hi all.
Jael, good to hear from you and sending you hugs and support for getting through this week. Hope thu goes well for you. Do try to relax and think about the baby you're going to meet (that's what I'm trying to do anyway as I'm also anxious!).

Girls and dog back tonight and I'm a bit relieved as the house is too quiet allowing me to think/worry too much. I'm off to do some last-minute nesting before they return and my sister arrives tomorrow from the US (hurrrrrahhhh!!). did I tell you sis does massages and reflexology? maybe baby is waiting for her arrival to help prepare both of us for the birth .

Blottedcopybook · 28/04/2009 13:00

Belgian Hooray!

Reggiee Your birth story is amazing! I also have had piles with each pregnancy and it's horrible TMI even just now it's really awkward to wipe without getting poo in my delicate region because of it. If it's any consolation though, mine really shrunk down in the couple of weeks post-birth. You might find that something like fybogel is worth taking because it'll make your poo softer and stop you straining more - oh, and I'd avoid bananas! They bind you up!

Gert2a Depends on your health authority - I was allowed to keep mine after my first son but not after my daughter because the handheld notes are the only copy that my authority has whereas first authority write up everything in my file as well as my notes.

Grumpy There's also a recipe for lemon drizzle cake, check the recipes tag on the sidebar. It's also amazing (but chocolate-less)

Anyway. My cat is in a huff with me because I peed on her by accident. She's also hugely pregnant and has taken to lying on the bathroom floor (it's obviously nice and cool for her) but I was bursting earlier and she was lying in front of the loo so I kind of spun on one foot to reverse onto the seat whilst simultaneously whipping off my knickers and she didn't move and I dribbled

Ach well. She needs to find somewhere more sensible to lie!

Momino · 28/04/2009 13:02

reeses... mmmm.
last 2 pregnancies i stayed away from peanuts but I'm not convinced that does anything so have been shamelessly eating peanut butter this pregnancy. wish I'd told sis to bring some reeses sticks (like peanut butter Kitkats).

oh, and emmabemmasmom, i'm so sorry but forgot to get a list from you for my sis to bring US goodies . i'll see what she's brought when she arrives and let you know if it matches anything you mentioned in your earlier post.

Belgianchocolates · 28/04/2009 13:07

blotted lol at your weeing on your cat. My cat has taken to lying in front of the bathroom door and so if I go in the night without switching the landing light on she sometimes plants herself there while I'm in the bathroom, I end up kicking her on my way out because I can't see her in the dark (she's mostly black) When's your cat going to have her kittens? Not at the same time as your lo is due I hope?

Momino Maybe your sis can help you go into labour with some reflexology? I think it can help.

Blottedcopybook · 28/04/2009 13:09

I'm not 100% sure Belgian - she's an indoor cat who escaped, came back in then escaped again three days later (the joys of toddlers who think they're being helpful by opening doors and windows!) so I'm not sure of her dates. She could be due anytime from now until next week so we're watching her very anxiously in case she tries to have her kittens in one of the kid's beds.

This happened with my last pregnancy too, our other cat had a litter two weeks before I had Erica. Bob said he thought it was ridiculous he was having to care for two pregnant lumps ;)

Belgianchocolates · 28/04/2009 13:10

momino I'm with you on the peanut thing. In all of my pregnancies I've been munching peanuts. There's no history on either side of our families of any food allergies, so I don't think me eating peanuts will make any difference.
Today I also had a runny egg sandwich . The further I get the more naughty I get with food. I even discovered I've ordered some 'chevre blanc' from Ocado yesterday without realising I did it. I remember staring at it thinking I'd buy one after lo is born, but I must have clicked it, so now it's lying there in the fridge tempting me to take a bite...

Belgianchocolates · 28/04/2009 13:12

blotted Sounds like you'll have fun, a litter of kittens, 3 young children and a newborn all in one house. Are you going to sell your kittens?

Momino · 28/04/2009 13:19

belgian, i love your 'recklessness' with off-limit food. it's all just assessing risks, though, isn't it? i must admit having some runny camembert last sunday which was divine [sighs at the memory].

about peanuts, we have hayfever and eczema in the family. i abstained from peanuts with DD1 (also during bfeeding) but that didn't stop her from getting severe, severe eczema (she's a snuffly child as well so suspect hay fever). i know other factors are involved but don't think peanuts are going to affect either way so will get that Nutrageous bar later as i wish (said defiantly).

about reflexology, over the phone Tina said that the reflexology point for the uterus is around the wrist bone. put your hand palm down, circle your wrist with the other hand's thumb/finger and feel around the bony part of the wrist till you find a sensitive area - that is the place to massage apparently. There is also a point on the foot, i'll find out tomorrow and let you know.

Blottedcopybook · 28/04/2009 13:19

Yeah - we already have enough pets between the cats, rabbit, fish and hens! I'm tempted to keep one kitten but I think we've got enough to deal with just now! I am a bit rankled at the SSPCA who told me she had been neutered but there's not much we can do about it now!

I actually found it quite fun last time because DS1 and DS2 spent hours playing with the kittens which meant I felt slightly less guilty about spending so much time focusing on DD but I'm not sure how that's going to work this time! The timing could have been better it has to be said.

Oh - foodwise, I honestly don't follow any of the guidelines but especially not at this stage of pregnancy where the baby is pretty much cooked. I think so much of it is overprotection and good judgement is much more valuable than blanket banning. How often do you hear of anyone coming down with listeria after eating blue cheese or deli meat anyway?

Tummum · 28/04/2009 13:21

Hi ladies

Just back from my MW appt and v.

BP is 140/100 so have to go in this afternoon for "monitoring" and must "bring my bag" aka induction is looming and prob. need to stay in tonight. Also have to see consultant tomorrow morning re "big baby". Bahhh. I can see my HB slipping away and I'm really really pissed off about it. Trying to keep an open mind because it's important that LO is OK but I feel like I am being dragged towards something I really really don't want.

Hopefully will be back tonight to let you know how I get on. Meanwhile eating some wotsits to make me feel better
