welcome back noggermum-nice to hear from you again
coop-i also think the baby is very low.i was told the babys head is engaged a few weeks ago but what with the increased pelvic pain and needing the loo every few mins,i definately think they're right.also the bump seems to have dropped a bit so im not sure if thats a good thing or not-ha ha!!
hope you enjoy your party tonight-dont know where you've got the energy from.im usually ready for bed pretty early
oh well...we've got lovely weather here so im going to do some gardening and plant all the climbers that i bought yesterday.
hope you all enjoy your day

charleypops · 12/05/2005 12:30

Karen - thanks for your lovely message

Hi Yellowbelly and Noggermum - not seen you for ages!

Blimey Nogger - hope they've overestimated your bump! Hooray for work finishing!

Poor you Lynny - only another few weeks to go though! and because baby's engaged, s/he might come out easier?? I'm so envious of you only putting on 10lbs! How have you done it?? Lol at your Waynetta Slob nightmare - you must be feeling a bit rough! Maybe you should treat yourself to some nice floaty frocks for summer. You can get some lovely hippy dippy easy to wear stuff at the moment without it being too fussy or floral. I'm going to get some lightweight linen and see what I can create. I imagine I'll have a spare tyre or two to hide for a while... Btw, I believe you can buy those stick-on baby shades in the shape of cat's heads and stuff from baby places - amybe even a big Tesco or something?

Bubbs - sounds like your pelvis is gearing up for the birth Blimey - 2 suitcases and a bag! I daren't take more than one holdall in with me after we were all warned about serious lack of space/no storage on our ward tour. And I even feel guilty about that!

Berolina - so glad the end is in site regarding work - it must be so hard. Poor you having a meltdown They're awful those rows aren't they? We haven't had a major one for ages whick is a very good job, because I know I'd lose it a lot easier than if I wasn't pg. Glad you sorted it out - that's so grown up of you Dp always makes us make friends after a row when I just want to remain as horrible as possible for as long as possible! I wouldn't worry about flooding the baby with -ve hormaones at this late stage - surely all his "brain pipes" and synapses and stuff are fully formed by now?

MrsW - antenatals are a bit boring tbh. What I would find useful is a class where you were encouraged to visualise stuff, and have the mw "walk through" things with you, like actually being in labour and giving birth - the breathing, the pain escalation, crowning etc, then also what you actually do with your baby whilst you're on the ward. She mentioned yesterday something about bringing in two margarine tubs for "topping" and "tailing" - I assume this is a cleaning technique, but it's first I've heard of it. Oh, I don't know, I suppose everyone's experience is going to be so different, it's hard to visualise anything.

Welshie - are kids always packed off with a change of clothes when they go to parties and the like? I'd've never have though of that.

Coop - typical of your supermarket to be closing just when you need it the most! Reminds me of when our fridge freezer packed up for the whole summer last year (kept getting "men" out to try and fix it to no avail and didn't change it until they'd tried about a million times) This one has now started to make very worrying "clicking" noises... I do hope you hear about your new clinic soon!!!

charleypops · 12/05/2005 12:30

This is probably a silly question - but I need to get some newborn disposals for my hospital bag - do I need to buy a wrap to go over them?

Also, where can I get those drawstring laundry net things that I can keep in the nappy bucket?

bubbaloo · 12/05/2005 12:42

charley-i feel really bad now with 2 suitcases.did they really say that to you about the space etc? i couldnt possibly get it all in one case
re those marg tubs you mentioned, ive seen top and tail bowls in mothercare and babies r us but havent bought one.i also wondered if theyre really neccessary.the shades for the car you can get all different ones.we've got cat ones(of course!!)but there's loads to chose from and those laundry bags you can get in john lewis or if you get one of those kleenezee books through your door, they also do them.
i use them all the time-for putting bras in when washing in the machine and they're great for that also

PinkArjuna · 12/05/2005 12:43

Hope everyone is ok. Glad to hear I'm not the only one with thighs that rub together

PinkArjuna · 12/05/2005 12:46

You can't fit it in one bag!! The newborn nappies and maternity pads needed a bag of their own! They are so bulky - I tried to fit it in one bag but the nappies took up all the bloody room.

bubbaloo · 12/05/2005 12:52

nice to "see" you pink
glad im not the only one with 2 bags-he he!!

Noggermum · 12/05/2005 13:41

Wow, think I must be being highly optimistic that I can discharge myself after six hours as I only have one very small bag for everything! I didn't use half the stuff i toook to hospital for DD1 - certainly none of the fancy labour reliefs the books all recommend (lollipops? back massager? Just give me the epidural and a good book any time ). I figure DH can pop out to Tesco if all else fails........

Cooperoo · 12/05/2005 14:34

nappy nets

Cooperoo · 12/05/2005 14:45

Hi Pink - Good to see you.
Nogger - I know the feeling. I don't even want to pack a bag for me as I don't even want to go to the hospital. We had stacks last time and didn't use it. DH looked like a bag lady when we transferred to the post natal ward. We got the bounty freebies and had to highjack an additional midwife to carry those for us . Having said that I needed EVERYTHING in the bags for me and the baby and had to get DH to bring some stuff in (and take some home) as well. I think it is a good idea to have several bags packed ie one for labour, one for baby and one for post natal ward. This worked for me anyway and DH could just take the labour one away without any sorting out. Just remember babies first nappy and clothes and a change for you in the labour bag.
Some one asked about cool clothes for b/f on the ward - I was happiest just in my cotton dressing gown when up and about (with bra and pants). nightshirts were all too tight/short/just plain uncomfy. I didn't get dressed until the Wed (dd born on the Monday am) but actually felt much better when I did.
Charley - No wrap required for disposable newborn nappies.
All for now as should be doing something else but couldn't resist popping by.

charleypops · 12/05/2005 19:23

Great info bubbs and Coop re the net bags - they really do seem essential - we're going to John Lewis on Saturday to get a mattress so I'll get a couple then.

Hiya Pink! How are you doing?

welshmum · 12/05/2005 19:25

Hello all - another daft busy day for me today. Ended up doing too much shopping John Lewis - including a 45 min wait to be fitted for feeding bras - good grief that was a bit of a shock, haven't seen myself in those kind of mirrors for a while! Why are feeding bras so deeply unglamorous - I tried on an Elle Macpherson lilac number and my bosoms looked like they started from my chin.
Also went to Hamleys for the first time in my life - to the Barbie section. It was just astonishing - I didn't realise the world contained so many varieties of Barbie, finally decided on a Snow Princess one for dd as her present from the new baby.
New baby also got a few things from baby gap - great sale on with lovely stuff for £1.97 per item - my kind of Gap shopping.
Charley - it wasn't a party at my house. DD has 2 little friends her own age and they play together regularly - sometimes their siblings come along too. If they get wet/dirty they go home in dd's spare clothes. her wardrobe is spread across N London.
Berolina - I've had a couple of meltdowns too - really wierd - like being in the middle of a storm.
Lynny - how on earth have you managed to put on only 10lbs???? I'm looking at a good 2 stone - but was quite pleased with myself as it's a stone and a bit less than last time.
Hiya Pink - hope you're doing ok
Welcome to yellowbelly and thanks for popping in Karen - Nogger mum nice to hear from you too.

teabelly · 12/05/2005 22:14

Evening everyone

Welshie - know just what you mean about busy days...I had all these visions about resting, reading, sleeping! before little one arrives, but I've been off a week now and only managed one afternoon to myself so far!

Mrs W - yup cake was lovely (mum makes celebration cakes and this was a new receipe I had to test for her...and very delicious it was too ) DS is missing nursery I think, he doesn't understand that he's not going back there (will try and get him into the local one attached to the school now - old one was in next town where dh works). I'd have loved to leave him there but it was quite expensive and now that I'm on leave it's unfortunately one of the things we had to re-address - typical too that he's only started to look forward to going in the last couple of months...although I suspect this had alot to do with a certain Rachel in charge of his new room - what a boy!

Berolina - you're first timer thoughts are completely normal...I had them with ds...and now I'm having double thinking about bubs and then also what ds might do to her too!

Lynny - re sunscreen's - for bubs themselves pampers do a babywipe with factor 30 lotion in it that you just wipe over little one - great for a wriggly newborn, and as far as the car windows are concerned I've seen some that stick to the glass itself (like sticky back plastic) for both door windows and the rear windscreen, shaded and looking abit like those old fashioned yellow plastic screens you see in old knitting type shops (from either blooming marvelous or jojo maman) that I'm thinking of getting.

Bubb - I have 3 bags!!! But as Coop says dh will take some home...one for labour, one for clothes and one for all the food I'm taking in ha ha ha...no last one for toiletries/nappies/lotions/makeup (very important - forgot makeup last time!!) I will only take the labour one in with me - the others left in the car until after bubbs arrives, then dh will bring them in when I'm settled on the ward and take the labour one home - well that's the plan anyway, no doubt when labour starts I'll panic and forget at least one of them still as someone else said dh can buy anything I forget, and hopefully if I'm only in for one day I won't need too much anyway!

Had another mw appointment today and bubs is definitely engaged, BH's are much more pronounced and more often and cervix thinned - so watch out Uwila...the race could be on, he he he Actually got abit scared as mw commented that like me her 1st came in 5 hours...and then proceeded to tell me that her second was out in 2 1/2 hrs, so if I was lucky like her I could do it all with out pain relief - lucky - not sure she understands the meaning of the word!!! Think I'm just gonna arrive at hospital asap once everything starts with my epi, epi, epi mantra!

Hurrah for all those who are finishing tomorrow or did today, and great that the mini meetup went ok. Right, have a large cup of cocoa waiting (yup I know how to like the high life ), so see you all tomorrow/over the weekend) x

Hello all - not had timjeto catch up - so I am being a bit selfish and posting about me before finding out everyone else's gossip!!!

Off work AGAIN today - am still plodding on! 2 weeks left! I had an antenatal appointment last night and was sent straight to hospital cos I measure 31 weeks - the same as 2 weeks ago. Am 36 weeks. . Was put on the monitor and re-measured and the midwife said she could make me 34 weeks. They are still concerened though - another growth scan in a week - if no improvement there is speak of delivering early. - I reckon I might be early anyway cos dd was early. - However, when I wason the monitor the midwife asked if I was noticing any tightenings. I wasn't particularly aware of them but they did get quite strong towards the end. The machine noted them at 50. Is this high? - I don't have any idea from last time cos she was born so quick that I was barely monitored at all - and I certainly didn't look at the machine. They let me home as I live 2 mins away from the hospital. Have been having twinges all night but I really doubt it is anything. Please God no! Hospital bag not anywhere near ready - and nursery still needs sorting in a big way - even if it is decorated! - Guess what I'm doing on my day off!

Right - gonna catch up!

Morning all, I've not been on for a couple of days, so loads of catching up to do.

Megi, you take it easy today. ESPECIALLY if you're about to beat Uwila to it....

I'm really worried. I haven't even thought about packing a bag yet and I'm due in 3 weeks on sunday. That was another job on my list to do from next monday, WHEN I'M OFF!!!! Today is my last working day. Hurray, hurray!!!!!
I also had my first baby nighmare last night. It was proper full on, whatever could go wrong, did. We took the wrong baby home from the hospital,i bf the wrong child, we collected our baby, then lost it, then, I stood on it, then we had to rush it into hospital!! That's when the alarm went off. I'm hoping that these stress dreams are normal. I just texted a mate to see if she had any horrid dreams, and she told me about another mate of ours who dreamt she gave birth to a big, hairy dog . Maybe its not just me then....

Noggermum · 13/05/2005 12:00

I know how you feel Jonah - a couple of nights ago I had a dream that baby was born with no eyeballs, just big red gaping sockets. I hope it isn't prophetic.

Last day at work and have nothing left to do! Am off to lunch then am going to disappear early. Just had a lovely leaving presentation too. Hurray! Finally I can concentrate on the fact that I am due to give birth in (gulp) 2 weeks!

mrsflowerpot · 13/05/2005 12:19

Jonah, just before I had ds I had a recurring dream that I'd had the baby and it was in the bed with us, then I would wake up and not be able to find it and go into a massive massive panic. It's normal I think! Then after I had him, I had a few dreams where we had to give him back and woke up so upset. I think that was my brain's way of saying that yes I was pleased to have a baby despite the sleepless nights, endless feeding etc.

this time round I am too knackered to dream!

charleypops · 13/05/2005 12:31

Poor you Megi - there's a lot of mums to be get worried about measurements aren't there? As from Tuesday I became one too and will be having 2-weekly growth scans . There are so many factors involved though in all the fundus and weight measurements which can make for really inaccuracy - parental size, difficulty in accurate late scans, amniotic fluid, wrong dates etc, you just have to look in the archives here to see. At babies get nearer to full term they become more and more different from each other, and as all these measurements are based on an average, they're bound to diverge more and more from those darned centile curves.

Jonah - congrats on your Last Day! How exciting!

Lol at your horrid dreams - they sound very similar to mine - The only dreams I've had of my baby have been where he's been small enough to fit in a matchbox, looks like the baby in Eraserhead, really soft and squidgy and I always DROP him on the head with a dull wet plop Awful aren't they? I'd rather dream I gave birth to a big hairy dog! Dp has nice ones about him - the other night he was in a swimming pool on holiday with him, bobbing up and down in the water while he laughed and gurgled.

tribpot · 13/05/2005 12:33

Afternoon all! Just popping in to say hi, working from home today hurrah!

All this talk about hospital bags, I guess I really should have a think about it. But as I may still be travelling back and forth to Leeds for another 3 weeks, bit hard to think about other types of packing.

I had some very sharp lower abdominal pains yesterday, and today periody pains. That sounds like what everyone else has too?

Hope all well!

LipstickMum · 13/05/2005 12:41

Hi everyone

It's been a few days, but you all sound like you are in fine fettle - most of you anyway!

Megi, for goodness sake, stop working !!! It's only 2 weeks and if you deliver early you'll be exhausted and unprepared. Is work really that important??

I've been absent because I have been decorating the front bedroom, slowly but surely, no ladders, just a chair But it's almost finished, just the last coat on a couple of walls.

The decorator has done about twice as much as me in half the time; our hall stairs and landing, plus woodwork will be finished after about 5 days The place looks immaculate!!

I hadn't thought of splitting stuff up into different bags, it sounds like a good idea in theory. I know I'll want something that's in my ward bag when I'm in labour though!! Plus, I also do not want to go onto the ward if I can help it. As soon as we're given the all clear, I'm going home so I can relax properly, in my lovely new bedroom !!

I didn't make loads of frozen food last time. I don't remember it being that crazy, but it probably was. I know my parent's came up and stayed for a couple of nights. They're very useful and quite happy to be bossed about, sent to Sainsbury's, do the washing etc.!! I'll only prepare some meals if I truly am twiddling my thumbs towards the end!

I can't believe that this time next week, Uwila will have little Alex in her arms!! I haven't even chosen a name!!!

LipstickMum · 13/05/2005 13:01

By the way, I meant to add a few things for the hospital bag list.

  1. List of people to contact with the news (in order of priority, naturally ) Or have their numbers in your mobile and make sure dp/h knows how to use it!!! Unlike mine

  2. Change for the telelphone/ to buy a card for their phone/tv/radio system by the beds. Which are, incidentally, a rip off!

  3. Find out how much the car park costs, if anything, and have money in the glove compartment at all times!

charleypops · 13/05/2005 13:03

From what people have said on this thread Trib, it sounds like baby's turned over or engaging with those periody pains!

Hi Lippy - I missed you! I should hope your non heavily pg decorater has done at least twice as much as you in half the time! One of these days, I am determined that my home might be described as "immaculate", at least for a day or so...
May I ask how much you pay for a decorater round your area?
Don't you have to stay in for 6 hours minimum? Doesn't that mean you'll have to go to the post natal ward for a bit? I'd love to avoid it too if circumastances permit. The private rooms at my hospital cost £110 a night so I don't think I'll bother booking one of those.

Blimey - just one week for Uwila!

Lua · 13/05/2005 13:33

Morning/afternoon all!
Soory to hear about your worries Megi, it does sound like you should take it for a while... I am still scheduled to work for two more weeks, but I think I'll disappear next week.

Talked to yeat a new Doc today, who reckon they won't let me go past due date (06/02). So, I figure I'll take at least a week off prior to that to catch up on the sleep front.... Of course the story always change slightly depending on who you see... So we'll see what happens! I am absolutely dreading the prospect of induction so am already on raspeberry leaf tablets, clary sage oil, walks, curries, etc... Please, please let this guy came early!
Charley, 110 quid?! My hospital charges 48! How can it be so different?
Happy last day of work to Trib, KVG and noggermum!
