Afternoon ladies

Thanks so much for all your kind words

Blimey seems like ages since I've been able to post in the afternoon!

KVG - I think it's us who're expected to put on a pound a week otherwise that would mean Pod's going to be 10lbs I've being putting on about a pound every bloody day lately

MrsW - I'd love a home birth and if this was my second and everything had gone ok with the first, and there were no complications with the current pg, I'd definitely go for a home birth. How lovely it would be to get into your own bed with the baby afterwards!

Coop - yes, at the 20 week scan I did ask to be told the sex and the sonographer (a different one) reckoned it was a boy. But just didn't see how the one yesterday would have known that. I'm very jealous of your hot sunny sunshine - it's so changeable over here at the moment. I've actually got the central heating on. What's an ECDL exam?

Lynny you must be right about where they choose to measure the head - it must be so difficult getting the probe at exactly the right spot. Sorry your sonographer worried you. It's seems all a bit hit or miss sometimes doesn't it.

And so they should KVG - what's the point of being a woman if we can't do that?! I could never chuck my scales away I'm afraid - they have far too much power over me!

Cooperoo · 11/05/2005 14:11

Lynny - Hope your day has improved.
I am now sure that the tightenings were just v strong BH's combined with bump kicking hard and backache from lumping dd around. Thanks for the concern. Good tip to drink more water though. I do drink alot as we have a water cooler but should always drink more. ECDL is 'European Computer Driving Licence' nothing exciting. You do 7 modules and I started it when I was pregnant with dd so I thought I should finish it esp as it is all paid for. I passed so just have two modules to do. They are the hard ones though.
Mrs W - I would def be going for a home birth if I could. I think if you do as much homework as you can on it so that you are confident about it it will be great I bet. Was your first delivery straight forward? Even if not I think there are lots of arguements for home deliveries.
KVG - Hmm My contractions were on the bottom half of my bump, underneath if that makes sense. When we first rang the hospital they said to go in when they were all over the bump but this never happened. We called them back when they were two mins apart and a minute long and they said to go in lol. Having said that I was still only 3 cm dilated when I got in. Also they do hurt alot more than what I had today. It is a productive pain though, bearable because you know there is a purpose to it and each pain brings that baby closer to you.
Well I have managed to change the sheets in the spare room so that it is all ready for someone to stay with dd if needs be. It is a start.

Cooperoo · 11/05/2005 14:14

We left our scales in the uK. Best thing I have ever done. I have no idea how much I weigh!
I think someone told me the babies gain half a lb a week from now on.......

teabelly · 11/05/2005 14:46

Afternoon girls

DS is with MIL so I've had a busy day to myself trying to get last minute things done and putting my feet up - not as easy as I thought, keep remembering things I ought to do when he's not with me, but also want to just rest...resting getting the better of me this afternoon tho - that and logging on here and eating cake!

RHM / Charley sorry to hear about your bump worries. Red - fingers crossed that the liver problem will resolve itself as hoped by the time bump is born. Charley - have to second everyone else on here - 5lbs doesn't sound that small to me and a small head would be very welcome by me . My friend who had her dd in January is very petite too, and was measuring 3-4 weeks behind on findus size, so they estimated a very small babe, and she turned out to be 6 1/2 lbs and very long...as Lynny has said the measurements can change easily depending on the position of babe, and next time you go they'll probably tell you you have a whopper in there with a gigantic head! Re the knowing it's a boy thing, the sonographer noted the sex on my 20 week scan (by the female symbol) - perhaps yours did the same - it would be on your previous scan notes near where they mark how many fetus' etc.

KVG - LOL at everyone watching bump move - I don't rememeber ds having hiccups, but this one has them all the time! Re contractions last time, tbh I thought at the time I would never forget labour and the pain but honestly I can't remember exact details, I think mine were all over as I had left and right controls on the tens machine keeping pace in intensity levels, and by the time the tens came off everything moved so quickly it's abit hazy until the epidural which was almost immediate relief!

Coop - yeah for passing - so when do you have to do the final two bits?

Hope those meeting for lunch today had a fab time.

Am off to read abit of one of my ongoing books until I pick up ds after 4...then again maybe telly, obligatory cup of tea, and another slice of cake....!

teabelly · 11/05/2005 14:53

P.S. Charley - re the weight - I've put on just over 5lbs in the last 2 weeks so I wouldn't worry about weight gain. If I rememeber with ds I put on loads at this time when expecting him too - am blaming all my weight on big baby, and will deal with it later when she'll finally pop out at a tiny weight and everything I have put on is still on my hips in a few months time!

Oh and rememeber someone asking about gro-bags, birth weight and how quickly they get to 10lbs to not be in the first size...ds was 7lb 3oz at birth, and 3 weeks later he was a whopping 11lb - so I'd definitely wait and not bother with the newborn size, also I don't rememeber him moving loads in the first couple of weeks, I just swaddled him and that was fine until he was big enough to get into the 0-6mth size bag. HTH

...right definitely off for that second slice of cake now...!

I have a lovely image of you waddling now Lynny! It certainly sounds like the baby is very, very low. Bless her, your DD sounds like she got over her morning bad mood very well. My DS does have a tendency to shout 'daddy' at random men, and it's really funny to see the look of sudden panic on their faces.

The weight thing is funny - I seem to put it on in stages, loads in the space of a week, then no more for a few weeks. Perhaps that's what's happening to you Charleypops?

Tea, are you enjoying being off work? Is your DS coping ok without nursery? It's my last day today...yippee! Enjoy your last day KVG, freedom is nearly yours...

On the homebirth thing, I did have a very straightforward experience first time round, which I think is one of the reasons why the midwife was happy for me to consider it.

Well, I've borrowed an old computer from work and have got my new broadband internet access set up, so I should be able to mumsnet from home as of tomorrow. I bloody hope so anyway or I'll be coming back to work!

Anyone heard from Scraggy recently? Is she still on holiday? Hope you are ok Scraggy. And Tessiebear, and all the other Junies who haven't been around recently.

Lua · 11/05/2005 16:26

Afternoon all!

Lynny, it looks like you'll be beating Uwila after all! Get your bags packed!

The mini-meet was excellent, and I have to report that I won the bump contest easily . I've been getting the:
-Gosh how long more do you have to go? , followed by: - are you suure there aren't two in there???

Arghh! I sure hope these parasites don't grow half a pound a week! LBKW (how the baby is now being referred to in our household...) was 6.5 lbs 2 weeks ago!!!

Charley, so sorry you got worried about the scan! Even if he is small that doesn't mean there is anyhting wrong. It win't hurt to keep an eye on it, and that may mean you get to see him more! I am really glad he has found the light at the end of the tunnel too

Mr.W. I would soo LUUURVE to have a homebirth!!! Go for it! D*mn GD!!!

Coop - I've only just realised that what I thought was Pod just stretching and squirming, must in fact be Braxton Hicks - I've probably been them getting all along. They seem to be stronger now though. I mainly get them on the top of my bump though. If that's right about the baby putting on half a pound a week, that would bring him up to 7lb 8oz at full term which would be great! Your driving test sounds like a bit of an ordeal, well done for passing so far and good luck for your next two modules - You should be a fantastic driver after all that!

Tea, thank for your reassurances My bump seems to get hiccups every day too. I think I'll have put on 5lbs in 2 weeks too by next week at this rate! I've actually bought a swaddler so I guess that might do until he's big enough for a grobag? Or will he be too hot in one? What about just a swaddler and nappy with no sleepsuit? Aargh, it's so complicated!

Lol lynny at your Leona at the consultants! It's lovley to see a bit of passionate human emotion sometimes - it's so rare in our culture

Ha ha MrsW at that "look of panic" on men's faces when your ds calls them daddy I agree with the putting weight on in stages - up until a few days ago, I had been stuck at the same weight for a few weeks. As I approached the gathering of my antenatal group clustered around the doorway waiting to get in, they all remarked at how much bigger I was than last week congratualations on your LAST DAY at work!

Lua - glad you had a nice meet - any gossip?? Re the size of your baby - after reading releveant archived threads on here and speaking to a few people in RL, it really does seem as if scan measurements for size/weight of baby are incredibly inaccurate - especially late scans where it's pretty difficult to see anything at all. What does KBKW stand for?

Is everyone going to get the Vitamin K injection for their baby? First I heard of it was today at the antenatal class.

berolina · 11/05/2005 19:56

Hello there

Congrats Coop!

Oooohhh lynny... hope it's not too painful right now.

I know what you all mean about baby beginning to press down and taking up more and more space... I had a 'moment' early this morning (on 3rd loo visit of night ) when I was very hurty in my pelvis (didn't feel like a contraction though) - have been having the odd twinge all day - and my bump has certainly dropped a bit. Little one has taken to sticking his foot (I suppose it's that) out for quite long periods - not really 'kicks', just pushing, so is obviously finding his style quite cramped in there . Am just rubbing a little heel now

Another working week over - 37 wks today and I think that was it for me as far as work's concerned until Oct. Next week there are no lectures and I imagine after that it's not going to be long at all until something happens. Don't know the current state of my cervix but I reckon this one's going to have a May birthday... doubt I'm going to beat Uwila though! Anyway, I am absolutely shattered so it's about time I stopped.

Am beginning to think about the labour and birth and what comes after - and am getting, if not panicky, mildly scared: OMG, the birth's going to hurt. OMG, bf-ing's going to hurt. OMG, how will I cope? What if baby gets ill or isn't happy and I'm too thick to notice? So many things can happen - how am I EVER going to feel comfortable to take my eyes off him?! Those are the sort of first-timer toughts going round my head when I wake up at night... Please tell me you had them too!

Yellowbelly · 11/05/2005 20:21

Berolina
I'm not a first timer. Baby number 2 is due June 17th and I'm also having all of those thoughts, so don't worry about it. DD is 5.5 and I'm panicking that I will have forgotten everything. Didn't have chance to worry first time as she was 6 weeks early and here before the panic had really set in! All I remember is feeling relieved that apart from the odd occasion it all seemed very instinctive and I just felt like I knew what to do. So am hoping it will all fall into place this time too. Try not to worry, you'll know what to do when the time comes.
Yellowbelly

MrsWednesday · 11/05/2005 21:14

Berolina, I'm having the same thoughts this time round and I'm not a first timer either . Glad I'm not the only second-timer who feels like this Yellowbelly. It's great news that you've finished work Berolina, you deserve a rest. I hope you are planning lots of lunches, lounging etc before baby arrives.

Charleypops, how are the ante-natal classes going? I must be due a big weight gain, the amount I'm eating at the moment...

I'm so pleased - have finally, at long, long last, got internet use at home. All is well with the world . And DH is pleased as well, it means peace and quiet for him too.

uwila · 11/05/2005 21:18

Hi and welcome Yellowbelly.

Lynny, if you beat me, everyone is gonna be bad at you because they've all put me down as forst on the sweepsteak.

Charley, yep we are going to go for the vitamin k jab. I'm torn though on the BCG jab. Does anyone have a view on this? I have a sheet of paper in my stuff from Queen Charlotte saying they won;t give it to babies after they are discharged from the hospital. Presumably this means it is on offer whilst we are in the hospital. I know it is to prevent taberculosis, but I don't know how important I feel it is for a newborn to be immunised against TB. Also, anyone see that BBC article about a hep b jab. Not sure if that's a great idea. I'm not opposed either, just not sure about it just yet... especially not for a young baby.

berolina · 12/05/2005 00:37

Glad I'm not the only one with these thoughts

Had a nightmare hormonal meltdown this evening - (rather loud ) row with dh, 20-minute crying session, the works. Since then baby has been very still, poor lamb - hope he's OK . (Can't stop being paranoid that he wasn't getting enough oxygen while I was having my sobbing session or the huge unleashing of hormones was too much for his little system). Think it's partly to do with being SO tired (although here I am up now - and remember I'm an hour ahead of you - unable to sleep ), and also quite a few things this week at work being frustrating. Anyway, dh and I are sorted again now - that's one of the many very good things about our relationship, we never let the sun go down on our anger - but it was really horrible. Oh well, maybe things'll look up now I've more time to myself. I think this week at work might have been a week too far really.
Sorry for venting

welshmum · 12/05/2005 07:47

Just a quick morning all and a wave,
Haven't been around much - trying to catch us with stuff and also yesterday had 6 kids here all afternoon (what was that about putting my feet up???) Still they were all pretty good and they must have had fun as the house was trashed and they all had different clothes on when they went home - casued by water not wee I hasten to add.
Sorry haven't had time to read thread properly - hope everyone is doing well and moving as gracefully as whales through water!
Love welshie

morning all,
havent been around for a couple of days and havent had a chance to read all the posts so i hope everyones well
hello to yellowbelly and karen-bet this thread brings back alot of memories for you!!
lynny-im also getting that grinding feeling which is agongy sometimes, especially when first getting out of the bed in the morning.im also getting a rather loud clicking noise coming from my pelvis which is a bit weird
jonah-know exactly what you mean about the fear stage-i was there even 9 months ago and im absolutely petrified.i suppose because it took us 7 years to even get this far,the fear never came into it before as we just thought it would never happen!!!
finally finished packing everything yesterday except for the snacks-you would think im going away for a week(2 suitcases and a bag!!)
charley-sorry to hear about your appointment but like everyone else has said 5lb doesnt seem too small especially when your fairly small yourself and pod having a small head cant be a bad thing
cant believe some of you are still wearing "normal" knicks but then again mine were big to start with AND ive just bought some more,a size bigger
lynny-knwo what you mean about the rehearsals-these car seats look a nightmare to fathom out how to fit and collapsing the buggy/pram is near impossible-ive only managed it twice and its meant to be a single handed, one twist and its done kinda thing.we've also realised that as its soooooo big, once its in the boot theres no room for anything else(and we've a large rover!).dh is convinced we now need a people carrier-any excuse for a new car-these babies are so expensive-ha ha!!
berolina-glad you and your dh have sorted things out.must be all the hormones flying about at the mo-we're exactly the same
hope yesterdays mini meet up went well.
katz-did you get my £1 i sent you?

Noggermum · 12/05/2005 10:54

Morning all, I've not posted in a while.
Penultimate day at work, hurray!
Saw MW yesterday and discussed my ever increasing bump. She estimated that this babe is 8lbs NOW, so at this growth rate will be 9-9.5 if I make it to due date and 10lb+ is post dates (was two weeks post with DD1). Oh God. Can you practice internal stretching? Raspberry leaf tea anyone?

Cooperoo · 12/05/2005 12:06

Hello all,
Phew, the board is busy again. Nice to catch up.
Hello and welcome to Yellowbelly and Hello and thank you to Karen01.
Tea - Mmm cake, hope you enjoyed it. I can do my final two modules any time between now and Oct. It is completely flexible though and the education centre is on camp so very easy really. I have databases and presentations left to do. I can take each test 3 or 4 times too so no probs.
Lynny - Ahh at Leona and her cuddles. And a big yes for freezer food. The supermarket on camp is shutting for 5 weeks at the end of May for refurbishment just when we need it. Our freezer is tiny too. I knew we should have bought a spearate one by now. I think we will be living on salads from the man in a van who drives around. I can sympathise with a low baby too. I think mine pops in and out but sometimes I can feel a real pressure there and little punches right on my cervix.....like a smear but from the inside. Ooo is that TMI. Anyone else recognise that feeling? Luckily for me it is not permanent.
Mrs W have you decided on your homebirth?
Lua- Glad you all had a good mini meet. How is Trib getting on?
Charley - They are BH if your bump is tightening up. I had them all day yesterday which is why I think I was aching so much. The ECDL is no ordeal really. It is all self study at my own pace and on a computer thank god not in a car . I like the look of those swaddlers. It will be much easier to get the right temp when your baby is here. Don't panic.
Bero - Yay to finishing work. Now REST.
The thoughts you are having are very normal I think. I had it in my head that dd would stop breathing if I wasn't with her lol. I wanted to wheel her into the loo with me etc at the hospital. I hasten to add I didn't do this but I wasn't happy being away from her and I waited for dh to arrive before a shower etc. I hope I will be a little less paranoid this time but I am not counting on it.
I am giving dd Vit K drops rather than the jab. There is a good thread on this somewhere if you do a search. DD had drops so I am sticking with that.
Uwila - I think in the UK we generally have our BCG at about 11. I could be missing something there though. The Hep B thing is v interesting too though something else for us to worry about .
Welshie - Hi. You had 6 kids in your house . You are braver than me and obviously have alot more stamina!!! Hope you are well.
I think practicing with the car seat is a good idea. They are hard to begin with but soon become second nature. Lol about getting a new car to fit the pram in. Actually on a serious note I don't think the boots are very big on people carriers. We are trying to decide what new car to get (we can get a duty free one out here) and so have been doing loads of homework!!
Hi Nogger - Enjoy your last two days at work. Hope you will have more time to chat when you are finished.
I have finally started all my sorting and washing. Inspired by all my aches yesterday. The washing line is full of little white vest and babygrows and muslins and sheets. Ahhhh. So small!!
I have received an annoying letter from the hospital too dated two days ago ie when they know about the funding for the new clinic stating that we are not to go to the military hospital at all but to call them and go directly to Limassol and stating that we will be contacted about a tour etc. I am now very confused. I thought it would be all about the new arrangements when I saw it not updating the old ones!!! Fed up. There was no mention about the new clinic at all. I am beginning to think I am imagining the whole thing.
Right I am off for now. Have another Usborne party tonight so going to have a little rest now. I wish I hadn't agreed to do them but never mind. I wasn't feeling this tired then. Only this and one other left. Byeeee
