Lummox, thanks for letting me know. I've been getting lots of other ligament pains, so that sounds about right. Does that mean I'm soon going to stop needing to constantly swig from my Gaviscon bottle

Sadly, my Rennie consumption still at the same level as 15 old men who like a big dinner, so would still look out for those 3 for 2 offers!

Definitely nice to be able to breathe a bit better, though.

Pre-preg I had no idea that ligaments could be such troublesome things...

lummox · 10/05/2005 16:23

Not got the fear yet, KVG. Think every time it comes it gets balanced by thinking that I won't be pregnant once the baby arrives (although discussion of net knickers and family size sanitary towels with the midwife this afternoon made it clear that the glamour of late pregnancy doesn't end with the birth!)

MrsWednesday · 10/05/2005 16:24

I'm getting a similar thing Jonah, it's definitely not braxton hicks type contractions but a low down period pain. I've just come back from seeing the midwife (mine is very dull in comparison to yours Lynny) and the baby is head down and 'very low' according to her, so I'm wondering whether the pains can be attributed to that? I think someone else mentioned them too, was it Charleypops?

For those meeting up tomorrow, I've put some lunch suggestions down on the mini meet-up thread for you.

I'm still in normal knickers too - never actually got round to buying maternity pants so am making do with low-rise thongs. I hope you gave your DH a good telling off for those comments Lynny .

Good to 'see' you again Mcmudda! And Uki, forgot to say hello to you yesterday too.

Charleypops, hope you and your washing machine have a long and happy life together . I don't know how you've coped this long without one.

Pink, glad you are around. You have so many things going on at the moment - life will seem comparatively easy once the baby gets here. I have the same problem with my thighs, and it's not pleasant.

Feeling more in control now - have done my list!!!! I'm all set for maternity leave now...one more day to go

MrsWednesday · 10/05/2005 16:28

Lummox, funnily enough I was having a similar conversation myself today, about the 'glamours' of post-pregnancy. If only it was the case that we could give birth and go instantly back to normal...sigh. Took me months last time!

uwila · 10/05/2005 16:58

hmmm... I'm going to have to dispute that period pain feeling = baby engaging. I've been having them on and off for the last week or so. But, when I went for my scan last Thursday you can be very sure that I asked every question I could think of relating to possible pending labour. She showed me the cervix, said it was nice and tightly closed up, and said the baby was not at all engaged. So, I'd hav to say that period pains don't indicate an engaged baby. I think that when baby engages you feel a constant weight down low and more space above. But, I don't know this from experience, as my children don't like to engage. In my case this is of course a good thing.

9 more days!!
3 more days of work

OMG Trib, did you START a job today? I need to keep up with this thread better. I totally missed that.

uwila · 10/05/2005 17:06

Oh, and Charley, yuk. I'm not going to be competitive about my son's genitals. Couldn't care less actually... so long as the poor mite isn't abnormally small...

tribpot · 10/05/2005 17:09

No Uwila, I started yesterday

JonahB · 10/05/2005 17:55

KVG - I'm getting close to the fear stage. When I stop work on friday, that's when i'll really get the fear. I can't wait to stop working physically (walking/driving/sitting at a pc are not my strongpoint), but phychologically, its a massive wrench, mainly because in my mind, the baby thing will then become "real". Not sure if that makes sense or not to anyone else. I can buy all the nappies and babygrows in the world, but in my head, giving up work = having a baby. Plus, the bump movement is changing. Don't know if any of the rest of you have felt this, but the baby is taking up so much room in there, every movement and contour of its body can be felt and it's becoming more like a "real" person with every day. Again, that might be my pgt mind preparing itself for what lies ahead, but this week i've definitely felt a brain change, like i'm preparing myself. Oh g-d, am I sounding like a nutter again? Sorry everyone .

Just got back from the consultant - good and not so good. Went to discuss my narrow pelvis with her, and the fact he was still breech, and basically she said we'll have to wait until 37 weeks at which point I try an ECV or book a caesarean. As far as my pelvis was concerned, she just said it's far too unpredictable to tell so I'd have to labour. Anyway, then she had a prod around and told me she could actually feel something low down like a HEAD! to confirm she sent me for a quick scan. And the good, well GREAT news is that the little mite has finally decided to turn round - so he's (today at least) definitely HEAD DOWN! Yippee!! The sonographer did his measurements too, then she went a bit quiet. Then I was ushered into an office to see a doctor who came in straight away who then told me that Pod's head's just on the 5 percentile (rest of him not far behind) and weighs only 5lbs. So I have to go for a doppler scan next week and a full scan the week after. He's worried that he might be outgrowing his placenta which isn't good

But, while I was there, I asked the mw who was doing my bloods about Step B testing and she said they happen to be currently doing a 6 month survey of it and I did a test there and then - so that'll be interesting.

MrsF - i'd probably re-use that mattress? But I am far from being the voice of authority..

Lol KVG at your builder's bum!

Pink - my thighs are rubbing together too! Isn't it weird? What's waterbabies by the way? Not suprised you're pissed off with college. Hope you manage to do what you need to though. Sorry to hear about your loo smelling - i think our noses become more sensitive during pg though - i know mine has.

Red - Glad you're feeling better. These thing really affect us don't they? thank you for the llink to Jojomamanbebe

ROLF Lynny at your mw and her "session" I wouldn't worry one jot about your baby being engaged - a girl at my antenatal was 2/5 engaged a bit before you I think and she's doing just fine.

Jonah - I was getting periody cramps for a while up to about a week ago - and now Pod's head down, although I haven't been told he's engaged. I suppose him turning could have had something to do with it? Also the above mentioned girl who has been engaged for a few weeks was telling me how she has been getting sometimes quite strong periody pains. You could be right about it being linked to engagement, like Lummox says. She was worried about it being prem labour too, but was assured that because the sensation was constant (ie more than a minute at a time - more like half an hour), it wasn't contractions.

Lummox - NET KNICKERS!! What delights will they think up for us next??

Lummox/MrsW - i'm not een going to ask you about what joys to expect post-pregnancy. It's going to be nothing but fluffy darling nappies, cooing rosy-cheeked babies and sunny walks in the park. And gleaming pristine meadow-fresh pants and punani!

trib - hope everything's going well in your new job!

Cooperoo · 10/05/2005 19:19

Hello ladies,
Went to breat feeding group today. Everyone was very nice and had lovely cake and photo taken for paper. Midwives all very cagey about the clinic still though saying things like it 'should be' sorted by the 6th and 'hopefully' etc etc. I am beginning to give up again now.
Will ask m/w again a next appt next week. We don't even know where the hospital is at the mo! Nightmare.
I am wearing mothercare maternity knickers but the under the bump ones and they are great. Occasionally have to squeeze into my old ones but they are def too small.
I have always found thongs SO uncomfortable. Only for very special occasions. Prefer french knickers or commando to avoid VPL and really don't care at the mo! The size of my arse is the shock at the mo not any VPL.
Pink - When is your last exam? Look forward to doing nothing and reading that book, you deserve it.
KVG - I seem to have more kicks now than ever too. Painful ones in my ribs. Baby seems very strong now!
Charley - Hooray for your washing machine and your cot
I am bemused about mattresses too. I have a new one for the moses basket with a washable layer and waterproof bits to cope with baby possett but I have been given a coco mattress for the pram which is washable and so was going to wash this one rather than buy a new one.... don't know what to do really.
Trib - Hope job OK and enjoy meet up.
Mcmud - Hi
Wleshie - Hope you had a good pamper with your hair etc. I have a day out at a 5* hotel on Sund with 3 friends and have booked a cut and highlights for the 27th may the day of our ball. Felt I deserved some pampering too!
Lippy - Glad about painting and that al is falling into place. Are you sleeping any better?
Kat - Does dd have chicken pox?? Hope not, although it would get it out the way...
Mrs F - Hooray for making a start with the newborn nappies...
Jonah - I didn't believe I was having a baby until I went into labour with dd. It is quite an overwhelming thing isn't it? I am sure my bumps head is popping in and out of being engaged as I can feel it on my cervix making me waddle everynow and then and then all normal again. My m/w confirmed this was likely. Can't remember engaging before although it prob did. I think the achy pains are fairly normal, just the body limbering up for the final stretch. Always worth double checking though.
Is Bero about?
Took dd to docs and dentist today too. Docs as I think she may have asthma and dentist for check up. That was very funny. Of course she wouldn't open her mouth at all. Eventually got a brief look in but left it at that. Just trying to get her used to it all really and the dentist was a sweetheart!!
My lakeland catalogue arrived today. Can't wait to choose some bits. New nappy wraps arrived today too with Sandy's nappies. The nappies are bigger than I thought though so will be going back and the money going towards my lakeland order. Take care all.

Cooperoo · 10/05/2005 19:32

Sorry Charley actually x posted with you due to chatting on MSN with sister in law for an hour while typing my essay to you all.
Glad Pod is the right way round and glad you seem to be getting such good care. IIRC you are quite petite aren't you so maybe it is not such a surprise that the baby is smallish too. I don't think 5 lbs is overly small at this stage is it? as it is from now on they gain the weight. It certainly sounds like you are in good hands though so try not to worry too much. Glad you got a strep B test all done and dusted too. Keep positive.
Red - How are you feeling at the mo. I would really push for answers on the kidney a thing and home birth thing. They seem to have left you a bit in limbo there.....Hope you get some answers.

charleypops · 10/05/2005 20:30

oo Coop - commando! Don't you find that your trouser seams chafe?? love your baby "possett"! I'll have to bear waterproof bits in mind when I do my research Re Pod's size - I am a bit of a titch (when not pg!) - 5ft1 and a half and a smallish frame, so don't know why they made such a fuss actually. Hope they're not holding anything back from me... Docs don't do that sort of thing do they??

Are you going to look round the hospital soon just in case the clinic isn't ready? I'm glad I did - it wasn't as kind of fresh looking as I'd hoped - you know, peeling/scuffed walls in a few places, large tired looking post-natal wards with no tvs, "nursing home" type feeding rooms etc, but the staff seemed lovely and that's the most important thing imo and I guess the appearance of the rest is just because I'm not used to being in hospitals.

uwila · 10/05/2005 21:15

Charley, try not to worry too much. When I had my scan last week, she told us that the baby is a bit big, 6lbs 14oz on last Thursday. His head and femur were average, but the belly was above average, and she said maybe I had gestational diabetes. Nothing could be further from the truth. I actually have to eat all the time or my blood sugar drops too low -- a little unpleasantness I am plagued with even when not pregnant. So anyway, I just said right he's got a big belly? Well, he just takes after his mum. Meanwhile DH is practically in shock over the phrase "gestaational diabetes" not even knowing what it is. I explained to him it's common and no big deal. So then we went to see the consultant and there was NO sugar in my urine. Silly sonographer, if only she knew what she had done to poor DH in her little "gestational diabetes" suggestion.

Good luck Charley, but try not to worry too much. If the consultant was really worried about your placenta, you be rushed in for a c-section immediately. Besides, who wants to give birth to a baby with a big head????

charleypops · 10/05/2005 22:25

Hi Uwila

Wow - that's nearly 7lbs already! Good job you're having a caesar - it sounds pretty big to me! These medics do seem to cause a lot of worry with us mums don't they? I guess on the whole I'm glad they seem to investigate stuff so thoroughly, but still... Are you going to have the glucose tolerance test? I wish I had your problem btw and had to eat all the time and still be slim!

Dp wasn't too worried when I had my gestational diabetes scare a few weeks ago - but I did have to sit him down and tell him why there was no real reason to worry even if I did have it. He is a bit worried about all this though I must say, so I feel like I can't be (or show it). Just been looking at some archived threads on here about growth scans and stuff and it seems that they're notoriously inaccurate. I just keep thinking about little things though in retrospect that happened in the hospital today - like the registrar who palpitated me (it wasn't actually the consultant - she must have been too busy) She was only checking the baby's position, but then after prodding around a bit she suggested I have a scan to double check the position but also muttered something about getting him measured too, so I think she felt that he was small. then the sonographer immediately started with measurements and half way through said "well it's definitely a boy" without even asking if we wanted to know, so can't help thinking she was distracted by something. I'm over analysing aren't I?!

Cooperoo · 11/05/2005 05:43

Oh Charley, try not to think too hard about it all or you will twist yourself in circles. You did know what you were having already didn't you . Like Uwila says if they were really that concerned you would have been booked in for a section or to be induced. Stay as calm as poss for you and little Pod. By the way it is usually french knickers under the trousers!!! Commando in my youth under clingy skirts, but not minis. Normal pants under minis! Anyway none of you are really interested in all that this time in the morning. Sorry.
Uwila - Glad Alex is measuring up at such a good size especially as you are having him that bit early. All sounds good. Not long now.
Have good days all. Sun is shining here and it is going to be HOT!

Charley, I'm really pleased that Pod has decided to turn round and face the exit . Sorry about the stress about him being small though. Hope it all works out okay. Like everyone says, as you're small yourself, someone up there could be smiling upon you and giving you a small baby. Being 5 foot, I'm crossing 20 fingers that I'm that lucky.....

Charley, I sort of think my scan estimate is wrong. I think her estimate is high, and as Lynny says, I think Pod's head is probably fine.

Cooperoo · 11/05/2005 10:57

Hello
I have had the worst tightenings around my back and tummy today. Actually quite painful. At one point I wondered if it was the start of something but then pulled myself together . I think it is just a wake up call to get my bag packed and the babies things washed! I have an ECDL exam this pm so wish me luck. Have to go as dd is throwing all her bread on the floor. Arrghh.

MrsWednesday · 11/05/2005 11:37

Good luck Cooperoo. Are you drinking enough fluids? Especially if it's hot there. I'm getting the same thing though, and I can feel every lump and bump of the baby when it happens. Very weird and uncomfortable.

Jonah, you're not in the slightest bit mad. For me, pregnancy is absolutely no preparation for having a baby - second time round I'm still finding it hard to accept that this pregnancy actually will result in a baby at the end of it all. As Lynny said, the baby will only become real once it actually arrives!

Charleypops, when I read your message my first thought was that 5lb doesn't sound small, not when you are so tiny yourself. I hope the next scan is more reassuring. Good news that he's turned the right way round though (you did know it was a boy already didn't you?)

When I saw the midwife yesterday she was talking about a homebirth she'd attended and I asked her if it was too late for me to start thinking about one, and she said no it wasn't. She was actually quite encouraging but I have to make a decision this week. I asked DH, thinking that he would be horrified by the idea but he was very positive too. I know Redheadmum is hoping to have one, but is anyone else? I am reading one of the homebirth threads on here and the more I read, the more I like the sound of it. From a logistical point of view it might be easier for DS too.
