Morning all!
Uwila, your test e-mail send me in a tizzy! I was what?1 Mr. Uwila, already? Thought you went into speed of light labour!

So I woke up screeming in the middle of the nigh tonight with cramp in both of my calfs! How bizarre! It took Dh a minute to get together and pull my toes up so I got better. But today I am not walking just like a duck, but as a lame duck! Ouch! ANyone else having those? could it be the low iron?

ohh, Charley - You can put me in the really bad mum list again! I never sterelized DDs stuff. Ok, I did boil her dummy and some parts of the breast pump every now and then... There is though a new thread on the subject on MN homepage - It seems like in Australia mums are not told to sterilize either... I wonder if it is a cultural believe or a real need in England because it is so damp?

Beautiful day here! Hope you all have a nice weather too!

Hurrah - I've found someone else who didn't sterilise - I was starting to think I'd imagined it in a post birth fug. You've made me feel much better Lua - thanks.
Haven't got a day yet Uwila but I don't get the impression that they want to take me on as a natural birth candidate - I don't feel like I'd conk out in Labour but lovely consultant had 'concerns' I think concerns will soon turn into date.
Do you take arnica before, during or after - or all 3?

MrsWednesday · 09/05/2005 11:16

Good morning!

So pleased you got your CS sorted Uwila. Can't believe you'll have a baby in two weeks (damn, need to go and change my prediction now...)

JonahB, is there any chance you can get a private room at the hospital? It cost us £30 a night at Leeds General, and it meant that DH could spend all day with me and DS. It also means you do get a bit of peace and quiet, although you miss out on the chance to talk to other mums.

On the hair thing, I've also carried on having mine highlighted although I did wait until after 14 weeks (think we are all just about past that point now ).

KVG, very impressed with your meal (and jealous - I could eat that now).

Lynny, lovely name you've chosen. We've got a girls name sorted and have picked out a boy's name but I don't really like it. I think we'll take a baby name book to the hospital and decide on the day! Poor baby, we are really not taking its arrival very seriously. Although I did have my first baby dream last night - I had a boy, and the birth went great, no pain and no stitches . Hope this one comes true.

Thanks for the birth ball info. I think I'll probably pop down to Argos when my maternity leave starts and get myself one.

On the sterilising issue - as a paranoid first time mother who wanted to do everything by the book I sterilised everything until 12 months, despite the fact that DS was crawling around, eating dirt, cat biscuits and even worms from about 10 months. I won't be doing it again this time, and feel quite reassured by what Welshie said so will probably just do the same (hot wash in clean sink and air dry).

Right, as I'm 35 weeks today, I'm off to have a cup of raspberry leaf tea (it said on the box to wait until 35 weeks and I'm not a natural rebel!).

katzguk · 09/05/2005 11:23

MrsW aren't you due on the 7th of June too? well i think that makes you 36 weeks today!!!

MrsWednesday · 09/05/2005 11:36

Well scan date is the 7th/8th, but my date is the 13th, so I didn't want to take the risk! Pathetic really.

Cooperoo · 09/05/2005 12:06

Hello again,
I am 35 weeks today too and was going to go for the raspberry leaf tea but I have now decided not to do ANYTHING that may set me off before the 6th June which is when the new clinic should be up and running. I am still a bit bemused about it all as certain people I think should know about it are being cagey and so I hope there is not another blip in the pipeline. I may well call the ward again today to get the official line....
Yes Lynny Silver Cross is coach built. My Mum has a smaller soft bodied one at hers for when we go back to the UK (again given to her) so this baby will get used to that lovely bouncy ride!
The MrUwila thing shocked me too lol. You are being organised. Right off to do the veggies for dinner now so that I can go out this afternoon without worrying about our evening meal. DD has still not gone to sleep but has been chatting and singing and laughing to herself for an hour now. Perhaps I should give up but I can't bring myself to give up on that lunch time nap yet. Or the cot....or to start potty training. It is that head in the sand thing again I am afraid.

teabelly · 09/05/2005 12:24

Afternoon girls

Goodness knows how often I'll be able to sneak away from ds to post now I'm on leave...it was much easier when I was working to be on all the time!

Have been off to the local farm, and swimming today and it's only my first proper day off (as I didn't do thurs/fri anyway)...had all these daydreams about finishing my on going 3 books, and putting my feet up, and catching up on sleep before the new one arrives, ha, must have been rememebering my first leave instead!

Cobweb, I don't want to get your hopes up or not one way or another, but I recently had a friend who was told number 2 was a boy, and out popped 'Lucy'...bit miffed really as Lucy was our first intended name and she knew it! . She was told at her 16 week dating scan that they thought it was a boy, but at the 20 week scan babe wasn't playing ball with the positioning and they couldn't confirm so went with original scan and heartbeat (also low like mine, and I've been told girl, although boys are supposed to have low heart beats???). But I would say that at my ds's scan we saw very definite boys bits so there was no mistaking. If you saw the right bits I'd stick with boy - but maybe keep the receipts!

Coop as Lucy was stolen from us we've now decided on Amber (or Adam if the scan was wrong )

Re the sterilising thing we hand washed and then sterilised ds's bottles until 6mths then started to use just the dishwasher...although I did sterilise the teats until nearly a year as dh and I both have tummy troubles. But I agree that it seems mostly pointless once they're crawling around etc.

Sorry haven't made notes to catch up so;

Welshie/Katz hope you're enjoying your first day off too. Katz I've emailed re the sweepstake...

Uwila 10 days and counting!!!!

Pink, hi ya, good luck in your upcoming exams if we don't 'see' you before

Right off to put my feet up for 5 mins - if ds lets me

welshmum · 09/05/2005 12:30

Hello tea (waves) I'm a bad mother and have decided that dd should carry on going to nursery so I have some of these days to myself. I have got so much done in a morning - unbelieveable. All her summer clothes are sorted out, winter stuff put away. New baby's clothes all washed or put in drawers and I now have a list of stuff I still need to get. Feel so much better now.
Have also started on the hospital bag - although I was quite alarmed at the really huge pants I found in the loft - I must have thought I needed them last time - god knows what for

Cooperoo · 09/05/2005 12:41

Oohh Welshie, you have put me to shame. I was supposed to be doing the veggies and I am still on this computer having achieved nothing very much. DD was in creche this am for two hours and I only managed to do a little bit of food shopping in that time. Pathetic.
Tea - I like Lucy, but I like Amber alot too. I know an Amber and she is gorgeous.
I am reassured that I am not the only one to not have names so far. I think our girls one is nearly there but the boys is no where near and I do think I am having a boy....Ho hum. Anyway off to do those spuds....

LipstickMum · 09/05/2005 12:46

Hi everyone

No real time to catch up here, too much to do

Welshie and Lua, I didn't sterilise either. I bf till about 4 months, no bottles. Then when dd was weaned I just put stuff in the dishwasher. Really was too lazy to bother with all the gadetry and also didn't strongly feel it was important. It worked for us, dd was the healthiest of all her friends. Maybe related, maybe not. Will do the same this time round.

Charley, tonight I might order the Maya from somewhere. As you know, I don't have time/can't be bothered to search for a bargain

I am having awful nights still. ALthough, interestingly, at the w/e I slept like a log. Last night I was up for an hour and a half at about 3. It must be anticipation of the builders and what will/wont be done as we come into our final days.

Ok, lots of love!

LipstickMum · 09/05/2005 12:50

By the way, if my dd was at nursery or whatever, rest assured, she would still be going when the new baby arrives!! Maybe the odd session off, but I think it's important for continuity in their little lives. Don't feel guilty. This week dd can't go to her Gma's at all so I have no time off and I am devastated!!! lol

By the way, last bit of boarding and plastering is being done today Now we just have to paint

uwila · 09/05/2005 13:20

Welshie, did you do all that this morning??? I'm impressed. I can hardly bend over these days, hence Alex's clothes are still in a pile on the floor. And it's taken me two weekends just to wash them stuff folding. So they are clean... but very wrinkled. Too bad, little boy. Learn to iron! I have loads of boy baby clothes from my sister and a couple of friends. The trouble is I think much of it is going to be the wrong season. I'm baffled by this because the other boys were born in May and March and July. So, I have had an excuse to sprinkle in some new clothes I love ebay. It's my new obsession. Bought a new baby monitor and a buggy board last night. My hospital bag is now packed, apart from clothes for me but that's because I'm still wearing them.

redheadmum · 09/05/2005 14:49

hi everyone

sorry not got time to catch up with posts as have to collect Dd from nursery in a minute.

I've only just got back from hospital from my 10am appt. This was a re-scan to check on the baby's kidneys and there's still a problem, which they re-assure me is not serious, but they won't let me have my home birth. Had to wait 2 hours to see the consultant! He side-stepped the issue a bit and has referred me to a paedatrician (sp?) and for another scan in 4 weeks. My Dh now definitely wants me in hospital.

Feeling really upset and confused about the whole thing. Nearly embarrassed myself by howling in the hospital waiting room, but managed to keep the stiff upper lip and just a few tears rolling down the cheeks.

noticed we're all in the 30 something weeks now ...not long to go.......anyway must get ass in gear and collect Dd she'll think I've abandoned her today

MrsWednesday · 09/05/2005 14:59

Oh redheadmum, that is unsettling. Such a shame you can't have the birth you want either. You did really well not to bawl, I would have done.

Blimey Welshie, you have been busy. I think I should start doing some lists for myself...I finish on Wednesday and I'm already worrying about feeling aimless when I have no structure in my life.

Cooperoo, hope you get some official confirmation about Limassol very soon.

Lippy, you are nearly there!!!! Lua, has all the work finished in your house now?

Tea, hope you've managed to put your feet up. Cbeebies always works in our house.

YEah, well my belly has grown so big that even my maternity knickers don't fit... I have to wear the kind that go up over the belly (lovely mathercare briefs) because the lower cut variety cuts right across the caesarean scar.. itchy itchy itch....

Ha bet that was more than you wanted to know about me.

The good news is I weigh about about a stone less than I did at this stage with DD.... and only 10 days to go.... yippee!!!!! yippee!!!!!!

I wish I was wearing them. I've been a real cheapskate and kept with my old knickers riding down.......(what another glamourous image I'm adding to MN. Dh/ps should definitely be banned from reading this)

feeling a bit calmer now but will probably have a weep later on...think it's just one more thing on top of everything else that's happened over the last few months. Dh and are getting v exhausted and this is pre - baby!!!!!

I've seen some (bit expensive) body suits that wrap around the baby at mamam jojo bebe (sp) that I think I'll get for the early days. Remember it was hard work going over the head. Having said that picked up a pack of bodysuits from George at Asda for £2 on the weekend - bargain! they had lots of great stuff and v cheap too

Cooperoo · 09/05/2005 18:37

Hello all
Red you poor thing. I can't imagine the extra worry you must be having being told of possible problems with your baby's kidneys. I can empathise with having your chosen birth experience taken away though and that is distressing enough. I would have been in floods of tears. I think you are being very brave and rational. I have been trying to focus on that little baby in my arms rather than the birth. I wanted to treat myself to some wrap around vests this time but I have decided to wait to see if I have a boy or a girl before buying any new clothes. It is hard though. I have bought new cloth nappies instead . I seem to remember getting some fab stuff from George at Asda last time and it was all quite good quality too. I find the Tesco clothes brilliant value for money too. I can't wait to get back in the summer and go shopping rather than paying over the odds in Mothercare, Next and M&S over here. I have tried the Cypriot shops but the childrens clothes seem very expensive and the cheaper ones are not very good quality. There is a serious dearth of manmade fibres used too and I want cotton only next to my babies skin. To be fair the bump will only be in vests for two months out here due to the heat.
Lippy - I hope you get some sleep soon. I had loads of sleep last night (1030pm - 700am) with no loo runs or anything and have been exhausted today! Sore eyes, headache and everything. What is that all about?? Good luck with the painting.
Lua - While I remember have you had a cheque from me yet?
Mrs W - I bet you will find loads to do when you stop work. And if you don't take full advantage and get those feet up.
Uki - Great to hear from you again. I had been wondering what you were up to down under.
I had to run today!! We were leaving my friends and I was chatting to her and dd ran off up the driveway and along the path. I nearly had a fit. Luckily the road is not at all busy but it gave me a scare about what could have happened. The shock obviously gave me the strength to race after her. She was giggling and giggling away too, little tinker! Apart from that she has been absolutely gorgeous today, really good fun.
I def feel that the babies head is engaging every now and then. It soon pops out again but makes me waddle for a while. It feels quite uncomfortable on my cervix. I don't remember the baby engaging last time at all. That is the wrong way round really as I was told babies rarely engage second time round. Perhaps I am an odd one. Right I really am going to wash some baby stuff tomorrow. Bye for now.

I don't mean dearth at all. No idea where that came from . I mean there are ALOT of manmade fibres used. .

JonahB · 09/05/2005 18:45

Red, sorry to hear about the concerning news about the baby. It's such a shame that you are going to have to wait another 4 weeks before you learn anything more. Can this process be speeded up at all, if only to put your mind at rest?

Sorry, I'm still in normal knicks. I feel quite unsexy enough thank you v. much, without contributing by wearing huge knickers. Plus, I dont feel comfortable in over the bump clothes. My work trousers I have like that keep slipping down in a truly umpleasant fashion, so I have that Nora Batty look around my midriff. That, combined with a workshirt which barely covers the bump, makes me a super-sexy-mum-to-be. No wonder the poor lad who's taking over from me keeps pulling horrified faces I was so mean to him. On his v. first day in our company, I forced him to feel the bump kicking. It was mean of me, but v. v. funny for me watching his face as he tried to be polite, but it was clearly far far TMI for the poor boy....

Cooperoo · 09/05/2005 18:56

Oh Jonah, lol about your poor boy replacement.
I agree stuff over the bump is really uncomfortable and forever riding down. Your Nora Batty analogy is spot on. Actually stuff under the bump falls down too so I am just constantly hitching my trousers up. Not an attractive sight really.
