Redhead - I'm so sorry to hear about your worries. 4 weeks is a stupidly long time to have to wait - is there nothing you can do to bring the appointment forward?

Those wrap body suits - so they don't need pulling over the head then? Don't suppose you can be ar**d doing a link can you?

Jonah - you are naughty making that young boy feel your bump! It's exactly the sort of thing I'd do too - I love making young men squirm for some reason

Finally got the correct washing machine today! What a relief! I've already done nearly 3 loads! you can't half fit a lot in, in a 6kg drum. Got no where to put the 3rd load when it comes out - oh well. I don't care, I'm just loving playing with it

And I finally ordered the COT today! Should be here tomorrow - hope I don't miss it because I have my appt with the consultant at 2pm. Not decided on the mattress yet - any recommendations?

Hi Coop! Charley is a bit of a cutey isn't he? Gets away with murder... So you have one of those old fashioned coach-built prams? I am very very They're gorgeous

Lynny - your dh sounds fab! What balls he has rescuing your lovely Jude like that! Bless him I love Jessica! Do you have one of those old-fashioned classic prams too? I'm still in thongs, but I bought a couple of packs of "full size" knicks from Tesco for my hospital bag. I must have been so horrified at the prospect of wearing them though, it wasn't until I got home I realised that with that lovely high waist, they're probably not going fit my bump!!

Welshie - I like Ivor - a good, solid Welsh boy's name! Hope enjoyed a Monday morning lie in!

Hi Cobweb!! My God! the 23rd it's really getting scarey on this thread... Why are you being induced? Am I being thick and you've told us already?

Lua - Well done on the baby's name! Red highlights could look nice - could go a bit orangey on the grey though, but if you're going for highlights your hairdresser will advise. If I were you and had decided on embarking on the salon highlight thing (and you'll have to go about 4 times a year - more if you have obvious regrowth), I'd ask for a mixture of different coloured highlights - maybe a few really subtle golden, some chocolately, some reddish, some dark etc - the grey will disappear either under the colours or will just mix in.

Uwila -10 days!! Stop it!! Thank goodness it's your last week at last! Bet my boy will have bigger testes than yours though!

Welshie/Lua - think I'll be joining you in the "bad mum" department - I won't be sterilizing stuff either unless it's pump stuff. It just doesn't make sense to me. The more I think about it, the more that mw has wound me up. Can't be bothered confronting her though.

Tea - Amber is a lovely name - I think it's so much easier to find a name for a girl. Well, I do now my first choice in boy' name has been shot down in flames a hundred times.

Lippy - hope your sleep sort itself out soon. Mine's a bit funny even though I don't think I'm particularly stressed about anything - I'm waking up about 6 which would horrify you if you'd known me for very long! Are your builders finished now then?

Why have I suddenly started to put on like a pound a day??? It's beginning to really freak me out

welshmum · 09/05/2005 19:44

Red - really sorry to hear about your worries, don't give crying a second thought, sure we've all done it at some point.
Lynny - didn't realise you'd been driven into ginormous pants already Mine were specifically for after the c-section last time - my goodness they are gross. At the moment I'm still in my own knickers - a fact I am inordinately proud of - don't know why, I look pretty bloody ridiculous what ever underwear I choose
I'm off for my expensive hair do tomorrow - and am feeling slightly worried about looking daft. I suppose I could go all in black and feign a nonchalant attittude 'Pregnant?! Oh you mean this huge bump.......'

LipstickMum · 09/05/2005 20:02

Hi all,

I'm relaxing for a change Thought I wouldn't see MN for about a hundred years

RHM, sorry you may not get the labour and birth you had hoped for. I would have blubbed in the consultants office for sure

I'll be interested to see how I sleep tonight, because... WE have had major headway today with the loft. Builders were here until almost 6, they've boarded and plastered the remaining wall It looks beautiful! This one guy is working his absolute arse off to get it finished, it's pretty impressive. Anyway, the other breakthrough is that we're getting the hall, stairs and landing decorated by the painter I asked him how much it would be and it was way less than I'd thought. Thank fuck for that!! Still have to finish the other bedroom, but it will be a walk in the park knowing it will be the end!

The other plus is that I can stop blethering on about it I know I'm bored [ grin]

evening all!!

have emailed MrsW and Tea with my address for the sweepstake - so come on all the rest of you, get your answers in - its all just good fun!!

Seeing midwife tomorrow - well hopefulyl DD has got lots of little spots on her tummy this evening which i wonder whether they will turn into chicken pox!

mrsflowerpot · 09/05/2005 20:13

I'm in big pants too, Lynny, after my normal ones rolled down once too often - decided I'd rather go for the belly warmers than pull up my knickers in public one more time.

Sorry you're having a stressful time, Redheadmum, I hope you get the reassurance you need.

I agree, those front/side fastening vests are fab, had a few from baby Gap for ds and they are much much easier, particularly in the first little while when you really think you might break the baby. I wonder where mine are.... I have today bought newborn nappies and cotton wool - just chucked them in my supermarket shop, well it's a start.

LipstickMum · 09/05/2005 20:55

I never got into maternity knickers, figuratively speaking! But, I could do with some atm.

Charley, glad to hear you're making some headway with your baby gear. I'm going to look more at the Maya sling...

Charley, look here for wrap around body suits.

BTW I was thinking you guys were all crazy with the hot hospital complaints, but after visiting mine I see what you mean.... So, what are you bringing for modest coverage/feeding outfit that also works in hot environments?

Red, so sorry to hear about your news! I also really wanted as close as possible to a home birth, but GD got in the way! Hope kidney problems are nothing!

Trib, so how was the first day at work?

Love Jessica and Amber!

mcmudda · 09/05/2005 22:19

Yay! Am online at my mum's house atm - she has a wirless broadbandnetwork thingy and it's fab!!

I'm a fan of huuuuge pants - they have to go riight over the bump otherwise they roll down. I have exactly 7 pairs of maternity pants now - if I wear nonsupportive ones I'm in real pain by lunchtime .

I wore them after my section too cos normal pants hit the scar in just the wrong place. For a while I found that a sanitary towel worn horizontally across the scar was a big help too.

Can't believe I'm 36 weeks now!! Ds was born in a fortnight's time IYSWIM.

I guess the first lot of June birth announcements could start in the next week or so depending on whether we all hold off on the sex/hot curries/bumpy roads etc

Dh has stocked up on cans of RedBull, Snickers bars and pot noodles for the hospital - for himself I might add. Last time round he was starving and falling asleep on the midwife. My birth plan went out the window and the whole birth was a bit nightmarish. This time HE WILL STAY AWAKE IF IT KILLS HIM!!!!! I'm the only one allowed to be knackered

ANy other essential kit recommendations for hospital bags???

charleypops · 09/05/2005 23:28

Hi again McMudda! Lovely to see you on my nappy thread! Hope everything's going well up there!

Lippy - so please to see you're relaxing - hopefully this is going to be you now until your dd is here. You've certainly earned a few weeks' rest. Are you going to keep any of you newly plastered walls unpainted? I think bare plaster can look gorgeous in the right room and I think you can put a shellac solution on it to really bring it out. Colour goes with everything too. Wish I'd left our lounge unpainted afer we'd had it plastered. Too late now..

What mattress are you going to use in the cot?

ha ha lynny - that cute little boy and his "dinners" And your dh and his disappearing thongs! You are so funny

MrsF - I'll have to check out those vests at Gap

Lua - thanks for that link - they are so cute! Might have to get a pack of those. I'm going to get a hand held battery fan for the labour - my hosipital won't let you bring in any electrical equipment unless it's PAT tested (which it won't be)

mrsflowerpot · 10/05/2005 09:29

Those baby clothes are lovely, Lua, hmm, think I might be going shopping... I really want to get some new things for this baby even though I know it's pointless as we have bags of clothes from ds. I should wait and see what it is, if it's a girl I can hit the online shops with no guilt.

Nice to see you McMudda, hope all is well with you - are you enjoying your first spring back in Scotland?

Re mattresses, I don't know what to do. Have always been told that you should have a new mattress for each baby and will do this for the moses basket. But ds' cot mattress is plastic covered, and has a detachable hypo-allergenic cover that washes at 90 degrees. So as long as I make sure it's spotless, how is that different from a brand new one? It's a non-standard size so a) it was expensive and b) I may have trouble getting a replacement four years on anyway. Any thoughts?

Gosh they were talking about maternity pants last week in antenatal I feel all left out. I am still wearing the same pants I wore before I was preggers. Admittedly they are a closer fit now than before but I wasn't going to part with money for ugly pants. My legs now rub together I have never been this fat in my life I even have a double chin

Has anyone else looked into water babies? I am on the waiting list! Even though bubba isn't even born they don't think I'll be able to get on before November at the earliest. I have invested in a body suit so I don't have to have all the cellulite rippling when I go to the pool. Honestly I can't believe how long you have to wait. Good job I didn't wait until he is born.

Well I should be revising but I am officially pissed off with college now. I am too tired.

All my antenatal class are excited about their babies. Mmmm - well I was glad that one of the other women admitted last week in a covert conversation in the kitchen that it was 5 years before she had wanted but her and her dh had something good together so she didn't mind. I think you get so swept along with the baby boom delight thing that you don't realise that some people just aren't as happy as they are 'supposed' to be.

I have less than 5 weeks left now. It is a nightmare. He is vastly annoying, kicking all the time now and trapping nerves. I thought I would be slightly interested in him by now but it doesn't seem to be that way.

I am still desputing with the college about next year - meanwhile as they fuck me around the childcare options are evaporating before my eyes. There aren't many places that are comfortable with taking a baby under 1 and you need to arrange it early.

They are still pissing me around the painting which doesn't look like it is going to be done. I am ringing them every day now and they can still tell me nothing decisive. The guy who is supposed to be doing it came over the other day and asked me what was happening while fixing my loo as they haven't even booked him yet The place is stinking. No matter how much you clean it if 2 twenty something stinking men have lived in it before you it won't ever be clean. I have spent loads over the months just trying to make the loo respectable. Honestly I don't think they cleaned it properly the whole time they lived here. It makes me sick

Well I just thought I'd pop in - moaning as usual. I hope everyone is ok. I have decided after my exams are finished I am going to sit around reading the new Artemis fowl book. I haven't had a minute to relax and have a stress rash all over my face where the skin is flaking off

KVG - my friend said to me this morning "you look slimmer than when I last saw you" (which was in November!). When pressed it turned out she meant in my face (not true but believable) and not my tummy (completely UNbelievable).

Anyway, hello all, haven't been able to catch up for a while due to the insane pressure of work (e.g. I have to do some), but Katz and Lua will update me tomorrow, hope all are well.

redheadmum · 10/05/2005 13:36

hi everyone

feeling much calmer today - went to my book club last night - had a laugh and a bit of a moan and got some perspective.

I'm not sure how much to worry about this kidney thing. On the one hand the consultant is saying that it's quite common and nothing to worry about but on the other advising against a home birth. (although he also said there is no reason really I can't have a home birth) all v confusing! I have an appt coming up with the paedatrician, and I will ask him whether he considers it a risk to the baby where I give birth. I'm quite prepared to go to hospital if this is best for the baby, but they don't seem to be saying anything very clearly at all. Of course I have to get my head round the idea of going in too......

gosh - we're all feeling v glamourous - NOT! I tried on some clothes and saw myself in a full length mirror. It was too scary for words! Have scuttled back to the denial of my house where have selective mirrors that don't show the full picture.......

will try and do a link Charley for the vests. Its

this

Lynny, lol at your MW.

When you say you can feel the baby settling into your pelvis, can I ask what you mean? For the past few days, i've been getting sort of mild period pains. Is that the baby engaging? Is anyone else getting ever so slight cramps? I'm really hoping its that and not premature labour

Hi Lynny, those are definately not the feeling's i'm getting. Mine are much more like v.small cramps. I'm due on the 5th June (3 weeks, 5 days and counting)

lummox · 10/05/2005 15:43

Jonah, have just been discussing this with midwife!

I got a batch of period type cramps about a week ago (lasted 4/5 days) and they have pretty much gone now. At the same time I started to feel a lot less breathless.

And the baby is now apparently 2/5 engaged.

The midwife said that it is quite normal to get periody type pains when the head engages and that given that mine seem to have gone away that is probably what it is.

If that's right, the pain is (yet again) a ligament pain rather than anything to do with contractions. I'm pretty sure that is right, because I am getting lots of Braxton Hicks and there was no connection between the pains and the contractions.

Sorry, bit long, but hth

lummox · 10/05/2005 15:44

Should have said, I'm due on 7th June so pretty close to you.
