I've never really used a changing bag, I just used a large handbag and used it as an excuse to find the perfect bag! I have splashed out on a changing bag this time, because I had some John Lewis vouchers to spend. I bought this which I've used a few times, and have been very happy with it.

I found expressing took aaaaaages to get going when I first started post natally with DS. Don't worry Looby it isn't any indication of future supply.

DS slept at the inlaws last night so he has pretty much breastfed for most of the day today, making up for not being here yesterday. He is very funny, he calls it "boat" and I've no idea why! Don't know what will happen if I have to stay in hospital for a few days. I wonder if he'll give up then? I won't mind too much if he does.

No more twinges this evening after my walk, but seeing the consultant in the morning anyway. I'm very excited!

Belgianchocolates · 14/04/2009 22:08

I'm off to bed now. I think I might have ago at listening to my CD again. It's been a little while. Once the holidays are over I'll have a go at daytime listening again, because I really really would love to know what she says after the first 10 mins

I have to agree with llare. What you express does not indicate how much milk you've got. With ds I couldn't ever get more than an ounce off after my milk had come in, even though he was a big fat thriving baby. With dd I discovered that for me the best way to get lots off was to actually distract myself and not think about what I was doing, so pretty much the oposite of the usual look at your baby advise. Heat magazine used to work a treat to get my letdown going

minimenace · 14/04/2009 22:09

That's interesting llareggub that you are still BF'ing your DS. What will happen with your milk when the baby arrives if he carries on ? Will you still get the colostrum ? how does feeding two work ?
sorry for questions - just really interested.

llareggub · 14/04/2009 22:23

minimence I've no idea! I am just trusting that my body will work it out for me... but DS has designated one nork for him and the other for baby.

minimenace · 14/04/2009 22:26

llareggub Awwwww how cute - and it sounds like he has a great idea there !!

Jennster · 14/04/2009 22:46

minimenace Colostrum will come in pretty soon. Sometimes this is the time an older child self weans but not always!

change bags You know you get a perfectly serviceable if boring black one free from Boots when you join the baby club. Oh and it has Huggies on the outside but if you really aren't bothered then it's fine.

detsy · 14/04/2009 23:07

Lovely tidy boudouir now - smelling all citrusy and fresh - one bin bag of little girls clothes and one bin bag of rubbish, hangers and the like. Wonder if it will make a difference to my slumber this eve.

jennster I spent some considerable dosh on various change bags for lotti and the one i use all the time is the boots freebie one. That said, I'm still hankering after a new one this time - think its the whole girly bag thing?!

Off to bed no - night all xx

Jael · 14/04/2009 23:26

Just popping on to say night. I'm glad a few of you are up for a post-natal thread, I was geting abit worried about losing touch, and it'd be really good to talk to moms whose littlies are the same age.
And as for the midland Moms I know it's too late to arrange another meet up now, and I'm not able to get about, but it'd be good to arrange something when weve all had our babies.

I'm going to try and get some sleep, and hope my appointment goes well tomorrow at the hospital, night XX

fmwhornsey · 14/04/2009 23:34

I'm due 17 May, having a surprise (although sonographer 90% it's a girl), will be my third but 1st home borth so quite exciting... any other May babies planned to be born at home?

FiKelly · 15/04/2009 07:44

morning.. another rubbish nights sleep.. well was ok at first. went to bed at 10 put on natal hypnotherapy cd and like belgian remember the first 10 mins and that's it.. woke at 3 took ages to get back to sleep, again at 4.30, then dh alarm went off at 5 for work.. and ds woke at 6.30am. got mw app just before lunch so plan to treat ds and to lunch out then potter about doing few errands. I need new crocs as I've worn down the treads on my current ones again I discovered yesterday.. bit slippery when pavements are wet.

hiya to fmwhornsey there are quite a few hoping for a home birth here and a few who wanted and are not able after all. you're due 2 days after me.. not long to go now! quite a few pages back we have a list of everyone on here.. feel free to add yourself on. if you're not sure how to one of us can do it for you..

Tummum · 15/04/2009 08:09

Morning. Well, I tempted fate and it tripped me up - I had a rubbish night's sleep ! We had thunder and lightening here, and then I had a couple of contractions (or probably nasty BH) which sent me spinning into a panic because DH is working away at the mo. But they eased off and I eventually went to sleep.

Welcome to fmwhornsey I am due on 1st May with my 3rd (a boy) and am planning a 1st HB also, although I have to admit last night when I thought it was all happening I did have a change of heart... probably because none of the pool stuff I have ordered has turned up yet ! Let's hope that it turns up today - the pool stuff, not the LO that is !!

I also listened to my hypnobirthing CD last night. Has anyone else had a hypnobirth previously? I have to admit I am a bit skeptical... which is perhaps defeating the purpose because you have to totally believe it to work, maybe?

Just spilt tea all over the only maternity top which fits me. Bah. Off to change already.

Llare bless DS for one nork for the LO and one for him - very cute

Boo - easter emoticons have gone !

OP posts:
Tummum · 15/04/2009 08:18

I am sure this LO is trying to mine his way out this morning - I am in agony !!!!

tummum i didn't know about natal hypnotherapy last time so this is new for me too. figured it can only help and heard good things from people that have used them.. anything has to be better than our last time.

stupid phone! sorry about the triple repeat..

Blottedcopybook · 15/04/2009 09:05

Daizy To claim MA you have to have worked 26 weeks out of the last 66 before you have your baby, so if you'll have been in your job 26 weeks by the time you finish up you'll be entitled to that - I'd personally apply anyway and see what happens. You apply through JobCentre Plus click here for more info

fmwhornsey I'm due May 28th and had been hoping for a homebirth but I'm so tired and in so much pain that I think we're going to request induction again. I honestly don't think I could do this for potentially another six weeks, I'm shattered.

emmabemmasmom · 15/04/2009 09:13

Welcome fmwhornsey! I am also due on the 17th...which happens to be my bday too of all days! Hope you enjoy the next couple of weeks the best you can!

Trying to catch up a abit, but had a question re homebirths...

DH and I had to make a hard decision this week regarding DD. We really don't have anyone to watch her, and I only trust DH and FIL but FIL planned a trip to Cyprus from the 5th-12th and he works so he may not be an option...so we decided that I will labour alone and that way I don't have to stress about DD as DH will be with her. However, I don't want to do it alone, I don't want DH to miss it as I think it is important for bonding on his end, but I also want DD to have some stability since it will all be crazy and weird enough for a 18month old to understand.

If I were to change to a homebirth...do I need a birthing pool? Can I just use my own bathtub? What would happen if I needed to go to hospital? To be honest I have never thought of this route but maybe it would be a good idea...only worry is how DD would handle seeing me in that state...what are your thoughts?

Thanks!

runningmonkey · 15/04/2009 09:34

Morning, just a quick check in before a girly day out with Mum.

Frazz did you hear then thing on the news about the homebirth study? The link to the story is here news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7998417.stm

I thought of you and your DH when it was on the radio!

Have a good day all
xx

Jennster · 15/04/2009 09:35

emmabemma I've had 2 hb so far and loved them. I've not had a birth pool before, but am borrowing one for this time. I found the bath absolutely fine for most of the labour, but they won't let you give birth in there. I found stuffing blutack on the over-flow pipe a good idea, to get the water nice and deep and over your bump. I gave birth in our bedrooom both times and the midwives are brilliant a cleaning up. You need to make sure you have those plastic decorating sheets and some old towels etc to minimise mess to your mattress and floor, but they clean up as they go along and are gone within an hour of you giving birth. They are there if you want them, and in the background if you don't. Most importantly they keep are there and don't let anything go wrong. At the first sign of a problem then you will be transferred to hospital. Good luck with the decision. Oh and my dd was 18 months when ds was born at home. She woke up one morning and there he was.

Welcome fmwhornsey there are quite a few of us planning home births.

Can't remember who brought up the cheaper swaddle wraps, dive? I've actually got a couple of these which have done well for me and a few friends but thanks!

spider naevi I've got loads of tiny pinprick marks beautifully highlighted by a circle of white that makes them look like a nasty rash on my chest. Was hoping they would fade after birth. At least they are small.

Midwife has just left and I need to clean my teeth, finish my Ocado shop off and then walk into town to get the last bits and bobs for my 'I'm not going to hospital but need to have one packed bag' Shower gel and shampoo in sample sized bottles. Think I left mine at the swimming baths and they got chucked out. I've been refilling them though so a bit cross I've got buy some more. Have a good day everybody.

SesIsCountingdowntheweeks · 15/04/2009 09:41

Morning!

Well I was definitely awake before 10am this morning. Just a shame I woke up 4 times in the night and then finally woke up at 6.20am!

Baby seems to have changed position in the night. When I saw the MW a couple of weeks ago, she said the head was engaged and the back was pointing over to my right side. This morning it all feels a bit more central and I'm hoping it's still head down.

Emmabemmasmom - don't think you need to have a pool if you want a HB. Definitely worth looking into. I'd suggest you talk to your MW.

Tummum - I've got a natal hypnotherapy CD and book but haven't managed to read or listen to it at all yet. I must!! Again, I've not heard any negative comments from anybody that's used it.

ladyhelenatealltheeggs · 15/04/2009 09:42

llare I have my eye on that changing bag in JL but in the pewter! I like it as it looks like a handbag rather than a baby bag. Expensive but with this HIP grant, I think I can justify it. Hope your consultant appointment is productive this morning.

emmab sorry no suggestions here as have no experience of a HB, but it may solve your prob of what to do with DD whilst you are labouring. Do you feel you could do a HB?

Have just done my pg excercise DVD and am now in need of a relaxing bath! Its raining here and pretty miserable so think I will then install myself on the sofa with some rubbish telly, MN and some biccies ( and undo all the work I've just done!)

LoobyLou36 · 15/04/2009 09:51

morning ladies..

2nd day of ML - yay! 3 days till induction

going to my nieces at 10.30 to have hair coloured and cut. then HV is coming to meet me at 1. she rang up yesterday to arrange to meet me next week (week b4 baby due) she didn't realise I was going in Sat.

sorry you feel rough blotted i feel the same way - had enough now just want to meet LO

must listen to hypnobirthing cd later and every day from now on - not sure its going to help this late in the day tho

LoobyLou36 · 15/04/2009 10:01

re: changing bag. on further investigation I appear to have one that attaches to the Quinny Buzz I bought off ebay
its just been sat boxed up in the spare room for the last 4 months - I haven't looked at it since it all arrived in dec.
Looks like I can fit LO hospital bits in it so I might pack that today. I shouldn't need much as I can send DH home for anything else I need.

Baby Hospital Bag:
3 Vests
3 Babygrows
Hat
3 Muslins
Scratch Mitts
Cotton Wool
half pack Nappies

Does this sound okay?

LoobyLou36 · 15/04/2009 10:05

So that's changing bag sorted - haven't got one of those insulated bottle things but assume I can just buy one seperately to go in?

Just realised I haven't got a pump for Quinny either - must buy one.

So now I know I don't have to buy change bag I think I will treat myself to that new bag from TKMaxx
