momino Ohhhhh Tums!!! I wish I had some! Lol Why oh why do we not have them here? They are also a great source of calcium. I think they say that 4 have the equivalent of a day?s needs in calcium. Very good stuff...Just checked on Ebay and they want £10 just for shipping!! Robbing me blind...

Does anyone think the liquid Gavison would be better if I cannot stand the chalky stuck in your teeth feeling? It actually makes me sick...so would liquid work? [hopeful]

leho I bet you will surprise yourself at how prepared you really are. I was talking to my mom and worrying over not having every little thing...and she said would it really be such a big deal for the baby to sleep in a drawer (pulled out on the floor) or with you for 1-2 nights if you don?t have the cot yet? I had to reply with..well I suppose not...but of course we want things to be perfect! As long as you have some nappies and a few pjs you will be fine! Everything will fall into place. Just take your time and enjoy the preparation!

runningmonkey · 08/04/2009 10:41

emmabemma I can't stand the tablets either as the texture in my teeth makes me want to vom but they are marginally ok if you suck them. I find the liquid much better - feel like such a classy lady when swigging from the bottle in the middle of the night

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 08/04/2009 10:47

emmabemma

I find the aniseed Gaviscon liquid slightly more palatable than any of the mint flavours. But I suppose that depends on whether you actually like aniseed!

The only problem with the liquid is the consistency - it's a bit like swallowing minty snot or, erm, you know, man stuff .

grumpy lol...well whatever are you on about??? lol

frazzledoldbag · 08/04/2009 10:53

blotted pmsl at you threatening to bite your midwife if she didn't get your epidural [frazzled makes mental note to try strategy if ever required]
divedaisy OH. MY. GOD. Those shoes are hideous. Am guessing this is the same friend who offered to buy you a 'hey look at me - I've got my boobs out!' pinny thing for breastfeeding? Hysterical. [cheered up now]
lehowell hello and welcome. Hope you're up for some serious chat as this thread is a fast one!
Detsy didn't realise that you are actually super-human. Good god I bow to your high pain thresh hold and hope it rubs off on me.......(not likely!) - I'm a gas-and-air and diamorphine fan!

Sorry, was going to post on here last night but then realised there were 5 (yes, 5!!!) pages for me to catch up on since the morning and got too overcome by it all and had to go to sleep. Sooooooo tired.

DH and I had a bit of a 'chat' last night about the whole birth thing. He thinks (and I quote)
'Homebirth is reckless and dangerous'
and I'm crazy to consider it. Hmmmm. Oh and he doesn't fancy delivering the baby himself (eh? don't remember asking him to!). And he doesnt' want to go to the NCT 1day refresher course I've put our names down for as he doesn't need to (er, he doesn't even remember what a TENS machine is for, FFS!).

Basically he wants me to go to hosp, have an epidural and come home the next day. Am not pleased but feel too exhausted and emotional to start trying to change his (stubborn) views. The last thing I want is to insist on a HB only to have him sitting around moaning every 5 minutes 'oh no, we really should be in hospital now' or 'if this goes wrong it's all your fault' blah blah blah. I can just see it happening. And it's making me sad.
Don't really know what to do. I'd love to have the baby at home and don't really see that there's a (medical) reason not to. Midwife is coming next Thurs to check out the house (!) - nosy old bag emoticon and discuss it dates for dropping off all the stuff etc. Suggested DH be there too and have a chat with her to put his mind at rest but apparently he's busy (corporate hospitality day out = getting pissed for no reason).
Anyone out there want to come to Scotland for a few days and hold my hand for my HB? (whilst locking DH in the garage out of the way so he can't piss me off).

sausagenmash · 08/04/2009 10:54

Emmabemmasmom - I have a permanent supply of gaviscon tablets in my bag, but last night after my curry (I know, I know) when the only comfy position for me was kneeling on the floor, dp spooned 3 spoons of liquid gaviscon down my chops (inbetween glugs of juice) and I felt better almost instantly! I too joined the windy club last night - it was so painful, I could hardly turn over in bed . I woke dp fidgeting and I was all confused... he's got this digital clock on his side of the bed which projects the time onto the ceiling (is v gd)... we went to bed around 11ish.... and then I woke up and it said 1030pm. Huh? Checked my clock and it was 2.30am. He was saying it must be right as it gets a satellite from space, but he's from Lancashire and said 'sp-eeeeh-ce' which sent me into loads of giggles, going 'spaaace, spaaace'. Good Lord, I need to be certified...

1stMrsF - oooh how lovely, you must be so chuffed! My brothers are twins, and Mum was mahoosive during her pregnancy... she didn't know about twin 2 until they were stitching up her torn bits and she needed to push and out came the other one! Eeek! Oh for the technology of the 60s...!

And O M G re the baby high heels. What will they come up with next?!!!

Hello to lehowell - you're very welcome here!

frazzledoldbag · 08/04/2009 10:58

'man stuff' ????? Grumpy I can't imagine what you might mean.
(although I believe it's effective when mixed into yogurt or similar for bringing on labour.........honestly.......better than the usual method of ahem on the ahem......and no, I've not tried it......or you can swallow it straight without the yogurt.....oh dear feel nauseous now.......[grabs carbolic soap and washes out own mouth].
Bleeurgh sorry ladies, a bit early for that kind of chat.
[voms quietly]

sausagenmash · 08/04/2009 11:02

Grumpy - I don't know, what with 'man stuff' and 'drippy la-la's'..... I don't think I can face my gaviscon again. Mind you, it IS pink... (not sure if that makes it better or not)

Jael · 08/04/2009 11:03

Morning ladies.

Had appointment with MW this morning, and I've come home from it in not a very good mood. She was fine when I first went in, and then when she found out we'd decided to have the baby at Stoke Hospital, after all the palava with Stafford hospital, she started to get really defensive and was then offish with me for the rest of the time I was in there. She was supposed to be doing bloods today (36 weeks) and then decided that she wouldn't do them, as she thought they'd do them in Stoke next week at my CS pre op appointment...I'm not so sure, she wasn't really bothered that I've had protein in my wee for the last 4 weeks either, and then decided that she doesn't need to see me anymore...I'm really angry and upset, I feel like I was treated really badly, and all because I've decided not to have the baby at the local hospital, can you blame me after all the bad press? I'm booked in for my CS pre op at Stoke on the 15th, where I imagine they'll go throuigh do's and don't before my elective CS, but I asked there last week whether I'd still be seing my MW here, and they said yes, you still need to be under a community MW, yet she's told me she'll next see me after the baby's born now... I'm so frustrated.

frazzledoldbag · 08/04/2009 11:04

'drippy la-la'? Whaaat? Must have missed that one. Blimey, we're a cultured lot aren't we? [sniggers]
Just heard post man, maybe he's got my hypno birth bargain cd for me [sprints hopefully for stairs...]

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 08/04/2009 11:06

emmabemma I've heard that's what it's like

Frazz I'm sure DH will have a car that needs delivering up to Scotland soon, he can drop me off and I'll be your Doula. I have stuck to my guns about my HB, I normally just fold up and agree to whatever DH wants because I'm feeble but this is one thing I'm not budging on. He has doubts, but I just pointed out the myriad advantages. Plus one of our friends was left at the Hospital I would be going to with severe appendicitis for so long that his appendix burst and he was very ill. It doesn't have the best reputation for MRSA etc either.

Sausage 'sp-eeeeh-ce' . I love the Lancashire accent, makes me think of eccles cakes.

It's amazing how many things make me think of food at the moment

OP posts:
sausagenmash · 08/04/2009 11:12

I SO can't be arsed at work today. No-one is in the office. MN is much more fun.

Frazz - sorry, the drippy la-la's was me (am typically known to lower the tone - can be hired for Christenings and posh dinner parties where people use their wedding present china)

Eeeeh bah gum.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 08/04/2009 11:14

Jael How utterly bobbins for you - it's like something out of the playground, isn't it? Stupid cowbag MW. Grrr. We need more Belgianchocs in our hospitals.

I'm signing off now as I have to deliver this laptop to DH as it has all his spoddy car diagnostic tools on it . DD1 has declined my kind invitation to visit dad in his cold and smelly workshop in favour of laying upside down on the sofa, playing MySims on the Wii. I palmed DD2 onto nursery today, she has worn me out.

And honestly Frazz, you're so childish God we're all childish, it must be the pregnancy hormones.

And sausage I think (?) poo-striped toilets gaaaaaaaaaaah.

OP posts:
sausagenmash · 08/04/2009 11:14

Jael - thats not very professional of your mw. Sounds like she's got the hump and has dumped you!! What a moo! Is there anyone you can call - your GP, or another mw in the same practice?

LoobyLou36 · 08/04/2009 11:26

Morning ladies

Welcome lehowell

2 more days left at work (or 12.5 hours) not that I'm counting........

FiKelly · 08/04/2009 11:53

hiya lehowell lovely to have you join us hope your move feels better soon. after your LO arrives go to any post natal classes you're offered.. classes can be a bit naf but great way to meet people and make some friends who are going through same stuff. that's what I did and still seeing post natal pals every week

grumpy lol at minty err stuff

infact lots of our chat has had me and sniggering out loud!

chocolatebunnies glad it was just wind.. you're not a ninny bad wind is excruciating.

wow at at coping with the synto drip and no epidurals not had drip myself but heard plenty about it!

back from my physio app.. ds had to come with me in the end as mum was busy getting her nails done [grrr] and didn't want him surrounded by acrylic fumes for however long.. took loads of snacks and a couple of new books from his activity birth bag.I took the pram to contain him and he was a star. physio agreed I don't have pgd or spd and just feeling full strain of bump weight. she's suggested some exercises and getting a ball to sit on. also fitted me for a belt I can wear when needed.. when I'm upright basically. I've also been struggling to do the washing up as I can't get close into the sink anymore! she suggested I get a bowl and do any hand washing of pans beakers etc in the bowl at draining board level.. save me stooping over or twisting side on..

time to think about lunch.. don't know what I fancy

frazzledoldbag · 08/04/2009 11:56

I like being childish [snort]
Postman did indeed bring my hypnobirth cd so am just loading it on to my ipod. DH just popped in on way to a meeting and asked what I was doing. Explained the hypno birthing thing and he looked befuddled, raised an eyebrow and left again. It's not going well. I think he thinks I'm a mentalist. [as DD1 would say]
Will listen to it tonight when I have some peace. Quite looking forward to it actually although I am notoriously rubbish at doing relaxing stuff. Used to have to try very hard not to snigger when my old NCT teacher used to make us 'breathe in through our elbows' and exhale orange light. [naughty girl at back of the class emoticon]
Must try harder.
jael what is going on with your midwife? What an odd way to behave towards you. I would ring up and try to see someone else if I were you, she sounds irresponsible.

frazzledoldbag · 08/04/2009 11:58

oh and grumpy thank you for the offer of being my Doula, that would be lovely. Although maybe not so lovely if you are in labour at the same time......?!

emmabemmasmom · 08/04/2009 12:15

Quick one: Pizza from Sunday..ok to eat today?

frazzledoldbag · 08/04/2009 12:18

emma I wouldn't (am neurotic) but DH definitely would. What's on it?

emmabemmasmom · 08/04/2009 12:20

Well it is from late sunday night...so not even 3 full days yet lol

There is meat on it but it has been in the fridge all covered and cozy...

Just looks so yum and the only other pizza i have is in the freezer but it is the kind you have to defrost first so not really kind on pg craving...

frazzledoldbag · 08/04/2009 12:22

grumpy by the way meant to say good on you for sticking to your guns about the HB. I keep changing my mind about whether or not I want to take full responisiblity for it without DH's approval. Maybe I'll agree to a hospital birth but then when it comes down to it I won't be able to move in ordr get in the car (or something) - hmmmm, plots duplicitous strategy.....

frazzledoldbag · 08/04/2009 12:25

so it's a left-over take away? In that case I wouldn't - may have done yesterday but it's now Wednesday...... But as I said am neurotic (and other people are far less fussy than me I should think). Can't the one in the freezer just go straight into the oven for an extra 10 mins or so? I think that's what the ones I buy say on them anyway.....??

emmabemmasmom · 08/04/2009 12:32

Well I am addicted to the make your own in Asda so I stock up on like 10 when I go lol

They say to defrost first...I don't know why but have never tried it from frozen. Usually pop in the micro on defrost for a few min...but can't be bothered with the time it takes

The left over's are from a pizza made on Sunday and it said best before yesterday so tech. if I cooked it yesterday it would still be good right? lol

The reasonings of a pg woman here...

pulapula · 08/04/2009 12:41

Frazzled - I certainly won't be digesting man stuff with or without yogurt- yuck. I am a spit not swallow kind-of-gal anyway .

I remember hearing a (male) comedian once, who reckoned it must be men who did the research into what can bring on labour, since the recommended list includes: playing with nipples, sex, curry, ahem swallowing man stuff, etc etc. Don't fall for it ladies lol.

Jael - you have every right to choose your hospital (some women in my aqua-natal live in Rotherham but have chosen Sheffield, and some in Sheffield have chosen Chesterfield etc etc). You are still entitled to proper MW care, so not surprised you were . And with a cs, then risk of infection is high up on the list of concerns, and although belgianchocs thought that the hospital will have sorted itself out as a result of the publicity, but not surprised you don't want to take the risk.
