I went to H&B for raspberry leaf capsules too, they're hoping to get some Thursday but couldn't guarantee it. Anyone know/recommend any online stockists of stuff like that?

FiKelly · 07/04/2009 22:08

i was seen by my community mw yesterday. I had a few questions for her, but the main concern was to do with the fact that the hospital clinic didn't want to see me until the day before my due date in order to give me an appointment to come in. My concern was about the problem with my neck and the fact the anaesthetist gave me the impression that he wanted me to have a more controled labour to give him time to get epidural sited and working, and if that failed a spinal - incase I need emergency intervention and therefore to avoid giving me a general anaesthetic and potentially hurt my neck further.... OK Sorry for long explainatiion. Anyhow discussed this all with mw, and she was very alarmed that they didn't want to see me again because my BP had been up a bit with them at my last appt (01/04/09) 138/86, and becsuse of my history of PE with last preg. SO she tried to get me an appt, but I had to phone this morning to arrange one. The MW sister asked me who my mw was - when I told her she said 'she doens't work for us' - I said well I see her every few weeks at my health centre!! Then she asked me 'do you wnat to be seen here?' - well er yes becsuse I've been attending your clinic since I was 13 weeks pregnant!!! ANyhow I got an appt for Wed week to see the consultant. I was a bit with the sister - but she did come through in the end!! THat;s the problem when your cross over 'boroughs'! Anyway I'm glad I asked - my comm mw appears a bit dizzy, but I felt she gave me the right advice and support and understanding!

1stMrsF I'm so pleased for you that you're on your way to having the birth you're hoping for with twins.

Re Inductions. Generallyl they start of here in the UK with prostin to soften and ripen the cervix, then break the waters and then if nothing is happening start on the drip. cote you are right that generally when you need the syntocinon drip you will more than likely need an epidural. It does tend to make labour more intense. I haven't met many people yet who have done a whole syntocinon labour without an epidural. Saying that, you've always got exceptions

fi My Hippychick mattress cover arrived today too. I'm not putting it on until DH has gone back to work. I want to test drive it for comfort without another body in bed first.

Well, I listened to my CD and still managed to fall asleep and miss the whole birth preparation bit. Last bit I heard was the bit where she says to carry on listening and become even more relaxed if you want to do the birth preparation as well as the relaxation. Next thing I know she's counting. And that was on the sofa with my head on dh's lap and the football on in the background [bmm]. I wonder if I'll ever find out what she's saying in that bit of the CD.

I think GAviscon is mainly for heartburnn not wind. It helps my nausea a little, but only for about 5 mins and then it's back. In the hospital they'd give you peppermint water for wind. So like fi said: try some peppermint.

divedaisy · 07/04/2009 22:15

I also am beginning to HATE my preg wardrobe. Was nearly tempted to buy a gorgeous set I saw in Next - it was a floaty hankie hem type top with a cardigan - I thought it would be lovely to come out of hosp wearing that (with maternity jeans of course!!) but haven't bought it ... yet.

Also - I mentioned getting ds a pressie from Bump to DH today and he wondered why. When I explained so ds wouldn't feel left out, dh insisted he's not... I think it's a bit mean... But saying that I havent a clue what to get him. DS wanted and has bought Bump a bunny to be Bumps favourite cuddly (hopefully!!) and I think it's only right/fair that Bump gets him something too - even if it is the next Mr Men book (No 14!) DS loves lego, but has too much of it, so don't want to be buying that. What are you buying your DC - any aged arouond 6 years??? Thanks!

Belgianchocolates · 07/04/2009 22:16

divedaisy That mw sister didn't sound very nice. Good that you've got an app't now though. Normally they see you a bit more often if you cross borough I thought, with us they do anyway.

Redbush tea doesn't serve any purpose really. It's just a caffeine free alternative to normal tea and very tasty

I had my raspberry leaf tablets from just a local independent health food shop. If you've got one near you, it might be worth having a look.

Anyway. Going to bed now. That CD has left me feeling a bit dopey...

divedaisy · 07/04/2009 22:16

Away for a bit to find a cot mobile!

Belgianchocolates · 07/04/2009 22:19

divedaisy I've got my dcs a present from bump. I did the same for ds when dd was born. My ds is 7 and has been asking for a ben 10 alien force omnitrix, so that's what he's getting. DD wants a High School Musical singalong microphone thing, so i'm getting her that. They don't know they're getting something though. It's a surprise.

Anyway, really going to bed now.

flippineck · 07/04/2009 22:23

belgian - local independent shop would be perfect, but where I live we don't have local independent anythings...it's all high street chains, and very little diversity of any kind.

pulapula · 08/04/2009 07:39

Just checking it to see if chocbunnies is OK after her concerns last night. Let's hope it was a false alarm...

llareggub · 08/04/2009 08:28

Morning all!

I'm so, so tired. I woke up in the middle of the night with terrible cramps. Had a few of them, so spent most of the night lying there wondering if they were contractions. They were so painful they made me gasp out loud, and lasted for about a minute each time. I think there were about 4 in total, the rest of the time I had a dull ache intermittently.

Feel OK now, but shattered! Luckily with the NCT group coming over later I'll have lots of opinions on what to do if it happens again. No waters, show or anything like that, but I did have terrible heartburn last night for the first time, and lots of pressing down movement from bambino, so I'm wondering if he moved down. It certainly felt that way!

detsy · 08/04/2009 08:37

Oh Belgian well in that case I'm very proud of myself cos I did a full syntocinon (sp?) labour without epidural

Not for the want of asking, mind you, but my thinking this time is that if i can get through that with practically nothing then my normal natural labour that I'm hankering for will be very different!

Going to be very proud and smug all day now

Also thining of joing the early ML crew - so tired and not getting much work done (DD at home today with her suspected impetigo) hmm, will think it over

Off for my rooiboos tea - yummy

chocolatebunnies · 08/04/2009 08:46

(chocolatebunnies sheepishly wanders in feeling a bit of a ninny)

Sorry for getting you all hyped up for another birth last night, seems it was just . . . . wind

Feeling a tad dissappointed, I'd got myself all worked up thinking little man was going to be here! Back to the waiting game . . .

Blottedcopybook · 08/04/2009 08:59

detsy Oh my God you're a tower of strength! I lasted 45 minutes on syntocinon before I threatened to bite my midwife unless she got my epidural!

Looby - my early induction (37w) was my best - I only had prostin pessaries and was on a 24 hour wait when my waters broke - a couple of easy hours later DD was born in the waterpool

If I were you I'd check with your midwife how your particular hospital carries out induction - my first induction was a lot more medicalised because their view was that the waters must be broken as soon as the woman hits 2cm dilated and if that hadn't happened within 48 hours of the first prostin application then it was c-section time. They actually missed my cervix with the first prostin pessary so I felt totally not ready for labour.

My second induction was much much better - they did 4 doses of prostin over two days then put me on a 24 hour rest and that was when things started happening for me. If I hadn't gone into labour then, I'd have had another two doses of prostin before they considered further intervention - if your hospital are willing to give you time to go into labour yourself then your experience will be much more favourable.

divedaisy · 08/04/2009 09:11

Good Morning!

chocolatebunnies - Oh that can be so painful!! I've been floored with wind a few times too - up the right side of my tummy! So I don't think you're a ninny!!

I emailed a friend of mine who lives in USA asking her for a few name suggestions for a girl. She really loves Charis, but suggested I follow the style of Gwenyth Paltrow naming her daughter after fruit - she suggested Banana that could be shortened to Nana!!!! - god I nearly pi**ed myself laughing at that one!! How does Banana Kiwi sound!!!!??? (By the way I am only joking!!)

See here and be shocked!! Whatever next for our wee girls?? - and no I haven't ordered a pair - I think they are very sad...

divedaisy · 08/04/2009 09:12

Oh and I'm away to get my hair done now! SOme more coolour in my life!

lehowell · 08/04/2009 09:19

Hello,

hope you don't mind me jumping in. I'm due 25th May so thought this thread was as good a place as any to start.

I'm desperate for any form of human contact as we moved to Amesbury in Feb and I'm finding it really difficult to meet anyone. Just to rub salt in, we supposedly moved to get dh a better job and he's now been forced into a position doing exactly what he was doing before so I've left all my friends behind for a backwards step in his career.

Sorry to start off on a depressing note, I'm normally much more cheerful I promise.

Hope you're all having a good day

emmabemmasmom · 08/04/2009 09:34

Morning ladies!
choco glad it was a false alarm! About waters breaking: I was in bed about to...well DH was there and I heard and felt a pop...I managed to push him off me and run to the bathroom before I gushed everywhere! Then I sat on the toilet laughing my head off while DH stood in the hall naked on the phone to everyone who would answer! Once your waters go they don?t stop...so I had towels in the car and pads everywhere so you will know! Atleast that was my experience!

leho Welcome! Hope you enjoy it here and find it useful to have adult, human contact! Sorry that your move does not seem to be going so well but I am sure you will settle in time. How is your pregnancy going? Is this your first?
Well I really need to get a kick in the bum and start packing my bag! I only have 2 things in there which won?t get me very far. I am still searching for a large nappy changing bag and figured I could use that for baby...all the ones I like are expensive though! I would love to get a girly one but I have to get one DH can use too...boo...

I have also been having killer heartburn but it is more like reflux for me. I just get the burny feeling in my throat. It is aweful as everytime I bend over (which is A LOT with DD) I feel like I am going to be sick. Took gaviscon last night before bed and the taste of that alone made me sick...bleh. SO yesterday not a good day but hoping today is better. It is pouring here though so no chance of getting out...not that I get out much anyway!
Right well I better eat something before my stomach turns on itself!

Momino · 08/04/2009 09:38

Hi lehowell, welcome! never too late to join . am very sorry you're having a tough time and things get better for you.

chocobunnies, glad it's wind and nothing too serious but also don't think you're a ninny. From this time on, you never know what's happening so should be prepared for the unexpected. Wind is painful when you have no room inside for it! anyway, your babe will have more weeks to grow then and you can (hopefully) relax.

divedaisy, at the cowboy boots - looks like something only a baby from Las Vegas would wear. or daughter of a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader .

Momino · 08/04/2009 09:49

emmabmom, i'm the same and it seems to be getting worse! Gaviscon never worked much for me. my sis has sent me 2 huge containers of Tums 'smoothies flavour' that i've been munching through. they've been helping short-term.

lehowell · 08/04/2009 10:02

thanks for the kind words, I'm sure things will get better, I'm pretty sure these hormones might have something to answer for when it comes to the odd mood swing dh assures me I've been having lately

This is indeed our first and its all starting to seem very close and like we're not nearly as prepared as we ought to be.

emmab I totally sympathise with the heartburn/reflux thing. I can only seem to cope with the mint flavour dual action gaviscon which of course isn't the cheapest and therefore can't get on prescription, but there are lots of nast complications I could be having so I'm counting my blessings.

Tummum · 08/04/2009 10:04

Morning girls ! I am about to head off for my first hypnobirthing session with my friend who is starting her business and wants to use me a a guinea pig - suits me fine. After no flipping sleep last night due to nightmare SPD pains, can I also say to those who have PGP my deepest sympathies; it must be horrible !!

Lehowell welcome

Dets you are a heroine - no epi after the drip !!

Chocolateb wind is flipping horrible when pregnant and I have mistaken wind for labour in the past glad you are feeling better today

llare any chance you will be able to grab a nap later.... hope your pizza lunch goes well

I'm off (was supposed to be there at 10 but got sidelined)

runningmonkey · 08/04/2009 10:08

Morning all. Another day of supposed marking for me but have just put all the babyclothes in the washing machine and was making a cup of redbush so thought I'd check in.

lehowell hello and welcome. Sorry to hear you are having a tough time. Have you looked on the local area of mumsnet to see if there is anyone near to you? You are due a couple of days after me, is it your first baby?

choc glad it was a false alarm. My friend's sister went to hospital as she thought she was having contractions. After being monitored for an hour she did a ginormous fart and felt fine. Apparently it happens a lot (I should add that it was her 3rd baby!!)

while we're on the subject of wind - peppermint tea always does the trick for me. It also makes me wee a lot so I don't drink before bed.

dive at the shoes... if only I was having a girl?

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 08/04/2009 10:24
