Belgianchocolates · 04/04/2009 20:32

febes my spd is at it's worst during the night. Just lying on my side hurts until I've sort of sank into the matress and settled. TMI probably, but that's made me think about how on earth we'll manage to have sex to get this lo out. We haven't had it for ages now because I'm so uncomfortable. If I can't ly on my back or side comfortably maybe we'll have to resort to standing up!?

Belgianchocolates · 04/04/2009 20:39

divedaisy Thanks for the tip re the waterproof matress cover. I'll definitely have a look at them. My waters went in bed with each of the previous lo's, so I definitely don't want to be without. Last time it was cold and winter and not too bad, but last night I felt like I was in the tropics some where.

Forgot to say that my mw was supposed to come with my hb pack, but she had a hb last night and cancelled. That was after I dragged myself out of bed to be fed, washed and ready by 9 am. I wasn't one of these when her colleague phoned me with the news at 11. I had already phoned the hospital to see if they could get in touch with her, but they just told me to get back to them at 14.00 if she hadn't been by then. Did they expect me to hang around the house all day? Ridiculous! I might have had plans.

llareggub · 04/04/2009 20:45

Belgian could you use one of those large Pampers pads instead of the waterproof layer? We had some to put in the car, but never used them in the end because my waters were broken in the hospital. I had polyamnios so I'm not convinced the Pampers pad would have been up to the job!

divedaisy your spa day sounds lovely!

Clumsiness yep, I can tick that one off the list! I nearly broke my neck earlier when I managed to get my left toe stuck in the right leg of my PJ bottoms, as DS tried to drag me off to show me the moon. He has been trying to get me on the trampoline all day, and can't quite get his head around the fact that a trampoline isn't a great place for pregnant mummy!

Blotted I've lost quite a bit of weight too, and can't wait to find out what size I'll be post-pregnancy. I have plans for that health in pregnancy grant!

Momino · 04/04/2009 20:45

evening all.
rosielady, i've been very grumpy too. at really silly things like the way dd1 took so long to eat an icecream cone today and it dripped all over her coat. but she enjoyed it and I should have let her instead of groaning and criticising her.... i'll eventually relax. i hope.

belgian, i feel nauseous as well and nothing ever sounds good to eat. I have to let DH decide the meals every night because i can't ever think of anything i want. even choc ice cream doesn't sound good like it did a month ago. and drinks (water/squash/etc) are giving me heartburn so I don't feel like getting my liquids. sigh. it's almost over, isn't it?

i don't know that i've lost weight but certainly haven't gained as I'm in my pre mat jeans (before you wonder, the waistline is below the bump so I use an elastic to fasten.

also cannot bear to think of sex. is this normal ? what with not shaving my legs, slight incontinence, piles, i feel too self conscious and actually don't have energy to have sex. i'm lucky DH loves me as he's not getting any. bless him.

Belgianchocolates · 04/04/2009 20:56

Sex always becomes a lot less in pregnancy. I think DH is one of those men who is put off by it all. But he just sees it (i.e. pregnancy) as a necessary evil to get to the most wonderful result We always get back to normal by the time baby is 6 months or so.

I can't stand under bump things, so I have to have proper mat jeans. Tightening my normal ones under the bump would just dig in too much.

divedaisy those hippychick sheets looked great. I've already bought one on eBay. The pampers baby mats wouldn't be big enough. I know from the last 2 times that I need something that covers the whole bed

flippineck · 04/04/2009 21:01

Evening all! Loads of catching up as usual.

No sex here either, think DH has given up even hoping now, bless him.

Re double buggies - we decided to buy one, DD will be 25 months when the new one arrives, but she's only been walking a few months and although she's caught up well, there's no way that I can count on her walking everywhere yet. She also still falls asleep in the pushchair in the afternoon if we're out, so a buggy board would be hopeless. And the final reason was that we're hoping that this LO won't be our last, so any double will hopefully be useful again! I'd planned originally to just sling and single it, but DH was not convinced at all. I walk or take public transport everywhere because I don't drive, so having the double and the single/sling options is most flexible for me. We've bought an Out n' About Nipper 360, the P&T was no good for me as I kept bashing my knees on the lower seat.

Luckily, I'm not too grumpy atm - I don't have the energy to be cross with anyone!

My appetite is ok, I want to eat (although mostly wanting sweet stuff, which is unusual for me) but I get full very very quickly - sometimes it feels like I'm eating evey half hour or so!

Jealous of all these spa days. Definitely going to try to get a pedicure soon though.

I'm really struggling with my hips and legs at night, the pressure of lying on my side really hurts my hips and down theoutsides of my legs - it feels like I've been sleeping on a cold, hard floor (reminds me of being a student !) and I have to roll over about a hundred times a night. Rolling is a logisitical challenge too because of all the pillows I have, under bump, between knees, small of back etc etc. Any suggestions? Had the same problem with DD, but in the ned just gave up on sleeping in bed and slept in the armchair, not ideal at all.

flippineck · 04/04/2009 21:07

Brain like mush! Also meant to say about buggy boards - my neighbour's daughter had her second child a few months ago, there's 27 months between her two. Apparently the older child absolutely hates the board and refuses to stand on it, and the mum really struggles with having to lean over the board as well. She was hoping to get away with not buying a double but has gone shopping this weekend to get one.

LoobyLou36 · 04/04/2009 21:26

Evening ladies.

It's been a lovely day here, met up with some friends for lunch, one of which is due on Monday. She went over by 10 days so we might end up in hospital near the same time I think they only induce at weekends here so we could be induced on the same day

Came home and FIL,MIL SIL and her 5 month old were here, I think they're even more excited than me about this LO.

The insulin seems to be working now as my blood sugar readings are more normal

MsG · 04/04/2009 21:38

Wow - I've been offline since Tuesday and Spangle's had a baby and Belgian's got a job - fantastic news! I'll try to catch up over next few days. xx

Tummum · 04/04/2009 22:34

Evening all. Hope you have all had fabulous weather today.

Well, I feel all organised today... we had the caravan serviced, car serviced, oven cleaned and then spent the afternoon washing the caravan. Suffering now though !

Re: clumseyness why do DH's have to comment on it?? It's not like I am trying to knock this off shelves / bump into things / trip over... I'd really rather not

My two penneth on doublebuggies I had 23 months between DC and found a double buggy invaluable. We also had a buggy board on the single buggy, but DD1 wouldn't stand on it for more than a couple of minutes and ended up sitting on it and trying to go to sleep. Also it also helpful to have a buggy you can strap a toddler into on some occasions.

Just also to note - no sex here either. DH reckons he feels like he has an audience, and has been kicked at inopportune moments which has put him off Not that I'm complaining, to be honest, I'm so flipping uncomfortable.

Looby glad the sugar readings are better.

Divedaisy v. of your spa day. Have booked in with a hypotherapist friend of mine on Wednesday for a relax treatment, so looking fwd to that.

Also of llare and blotted on weight loss. Am already planning signing up to Slimming World once LO is dislodged to get rid of my jelly-arse !

Anyway, I'm off to bed to put up my feet which have blown up to the size of helium balloons. Probably something to do with the caravan washing..... oops.

Tummum · 04/04/2009 22:34

Blimey - sorry for mega post !

llareggub · 04/04/2009 22:55

Sex? What is that?

divedaisy · 04/04/2009 22:57

Belgian - the hippy chick covers are great. you should be pleased with yours -- feel free to shout at me if you're not!!

Totally off sex... too sore and uncomfortable. The thought of it is too much - think Ill have to rely on vindaloo and raspberry tablets!!

I'm 88.5kgs now - 13 st 13 llb think that's about 8kg gain - but not too sure what I started out weighing! Explains why Im so breathless I guess!

Also very sore rolling over in bed! I had one of those long pillows but threw it out of bed the other night as it was too cumbersome. So have a beanie pillow for between knees. Legs very itchy and hot at night! I dread going ot bed now!!!

DH bringing a cuppa tea!! Nighty night. xx

detsy · 04/04/2009 23:21

hi all, quick spangle update, too late and on phone so too hard to tease you all!! She's still in hosp, all ok but spanglet lost 10% birth weight and jaundiced so just stayin in a bit longer. She promises to be on line as soon as home. That's all folks !! X

frazzledoldbag · 04/04/2009 23:42

Exactly llare -no idea what sex is like [scratches head and searches distant memories emoticon]
detsy thats so weird, I was just on facebook and wondering how spangle and the little spanglet are doing - shame he's lost weight and got jaundice but fingers crossed they are home and all ok very soon. Give them my love x x x x
Re: slings - thanks for feedback everyone that gave it the other day. I popped into TKMAx the other day on the offchance they had some as our Mothercare had sold out of all but the Baby Bjorn which I don't like and TKMax had a navy blue BabaSling for £24.99. So I got it and have been wearing it round the house to practice with DD's 'Baby Annabel' doll in it. It's really fab and I'm so pleased with it. Think I'll see how I get on with bab in sling and DD2 in the Chameleon before splashing out on a double buggy.
Have horrible heartburn and am getting v.bored of this pregnancy lark now. Freaked DH out by reminding him that this baby is due 6 wks today. He looked a bit stunned when I said that, don't actually think the penny has properly dropped yet. He's also refusing the discuss homebirth or the NCT refresher class I want to book us on to in 3 wks time. I still want my homebirth but without a supportive DH I can't see it happening. I've just been bidding on a Tens machine on ebay (same price as I paid to hire one for 6 wks from Boots last time!) and he asked what I needed one of those for???????? Good god, I've had one for my past 2 labours......surely he's not that clueless. Please bear in mind that DH is an educated intelligent man (well, on paper anyway). Then he got in a strop because I was sarky with him about not knowing what it was for. Part of me just thinks I might as well go straight to hosp with the first contraction, get an epidural in and that'll be it. Then I won't need any help or support from DH (who'll no doubt sleep in the corner throughout like he did last time) , but really that's not what I want. Sorry am I ranting??? Tired and emotional (yes, again).
Right will shut up now.
Oh yes and also just won a natal hypnotherapy birth prep cd off ebay for £4. Am very delighted, but hope they post it out quickly!

Momino · 04/04/2009 23:43

thanks for the update detsy.

am off to bed now but just drinking a chamomile before i do.

i'm not comfortable in bed anymore, no matter which side. my hips/lower torso is really sore as well. and baby seems to wake up as soon as I've settled down to sleep. I'll try the pillow between the knees.

good night all. xx

frazzledoldbag · 04/04/2009 23:52

Oh and as for weighing myself I just don't dare step on the scales as I know I'd end up in tears. I'd just lost 3.5 stone before I got pg and was about 9 stone and felt great. I know it's irrational but I know I'll be totally gutted to see anything over 11.5 stone on the scales (but also am realistic enough to know that it will be more than that what with all the creme eggs etc). So am avoiding the scales and won't weigh myself until after the birth!
Wish me luck for tomorrow - am doing an open viewing and hoping for lots of blue sky and sunshine to lure out the buyers to my show house........viewers with cheque books in their pockets will be particularly welcome! I really want to sell at least one house before this baby is born - a bit of a recurring theme for me as I went into labour with DD2 whilst at a show house launch the night before my due date!
Off to crack open the Gaviscon now and head to bed. DH snoring already
night all x x x x x x x

frazzledoldbag · 04/04/2009 23:54

momino night and hope you sleep ok. I get sore lying on my side too. Would love sleep on my back (or my front would be such a treat!)

Tummum · 05/04/2009 08:48

Frazzled sending lots of empathy your way re: DH's and HBs. Mine has more or less said he'd prefer me not to do it (apparently more pressure on him, little lamb ) but he knows he hasn't a choice. I'd much rather he just shut up and smiled and said "I support you in whatever you want" but then I could be being hormonal about the whole thing - after all it has been known...! Also, hope have a really sucessful viewing today. Weather looks good...

Detsy thanks for the Spangle update. Hopefully she and Spanglet will be able to get out of hosp. soon.

I am really suffering with my bloated legs. Can hardly walk. Has anyone any tips? I'm thinking of trying dandelion tea as a diruetic. Apart from sitting / lying with my feet above me (impossible due to SPD) I don't know what else to do. Fun this pregnancy lark, eh?

I'm off to supervise DC. DD1 has just said "Can anyone smell my bottom - DD1 smell my bottom!" so I think I need go intervene.... !!

Blottedcopybook · 05/04/2009 10:12

Febes Thank you! I do make them pretty I'm just about to have some banoffee pie for my mid-morning snack. I am very naughty and am going to have to be particularly active to burn my sugar level back down after it!

Emmalina Would it make you feel any better if I tell you that after DS1 I went from a pre-preg size 12 to a post-preg size 18 and it took me six months of walking everywhere just to get into a 14? I just didn't bother trying to lose the weight after DS2 because I knew we were hoping to have another baby pretty quickly. This time I will get into a bikini though!

Divedaisy I am so jealous. I told hubby we're booking into a spa hotel next weekend if we can get someone to come and stay with the kids because we're both in desperate need of some R&R! Also weight-wise I think I'm just around the 14stone mark at 5'8". I'm not overweight, I'm just not tall enough!

rosielady Definitely. It's kind of out of our hands now and there's no way he'll get his job back, but hopefully lessons will be learned and they'll sort something out for him.

Belgian TMI alert! The only way I can do it with my SPD and massive bump is with me on my knees. Even at that I just cannot be bothered for the most part My DH is put off if the baby is moving when we're getting intimate too. Just as well I have a livewire!

llare Do you know the little bunnies song where the kids start off lying on the floor then end up hopping around? I did that yesterday with my two and ended up lying on the sofa having very strong BH contractions for an hour. Trampoline is definitely not a good idea!

detsy thanks for the update! Think that's pretty normal for a breastfed baby, all of mine lost loads of weight and had jaundice too. Hopefully he won't need to go under the lamp and Spangle can get home soon.

Momino · 05/04/2009 10:51

frazzled, cross-posted you last night. hope all goes well with your open viewing today. tummum, best wishes for your as well.

TENS machine: i've just found one to borrow from someone on local NCT yahoo group - very nice of them. I think i'll offer something anyway, or maybe a loaf of banana bread or something .

llare and blotted - i want to know the bunny song too! sounds cute.

DD1 (age 3 and 3 mos) asked how the baby was going to get out of mummy's tummy - isn't she a bit young to be asking that? It made me smile and I just said something like a 'special passageway' etc, etc. but luckily didn't have to get into the 'how are babies made' discussion yet. must buy a book.

ladyhelenatealltheeggs · 05/04/2009 11:20

momimo my DS asked how baby was going to come out. Would my head be chopped off?!!! I said no, there was another way out and left it at that. Fortunately he asked no more. Phew.

DH has taken DS to the park. Its a lovely day here and I feel that I should go out and enjoy the sunshine but I can't be bothered to get off the sofa.

Baby is due 4 weeks today. Yikes.

Blottedcopybook · 05/04/2009 11:46

Momino I just told my DS, but he's also watched a birthing video on YouTube because if I'm birthing at home there's a possibility he might be here. Although I'll explain in a sec why I might not be birthing at home...

The little bunnies song is this - the kids start off lying on the floor pretending to be asleep, then jump up and start hopping at the appropriate line

Can you see the little bunnies
Sleeping til it's noon
Shall we wake them
With a merry tune

Oh how still, are they ill?
Shhhhhhhhh!
Wake up soon.
Wake up. Wake up...

Hop little bunnies hop, hop, hop.
Hop little bunnies hop, hop, hop.
Hop little bunnies hop, hop, hop.
Hop little bunnies hop aaaand stop.

Blottedcopybook · 05/04/2009 11:48

Oh yeah - I sincerely hope my pelvic floor has just failed me but I just had to call the hospital because I thought my waters had gone. I got a big gush but now it seems to have stopped although I feel a bit "bubbly" down there if you know what I mean?

Anyway. I've to sit down for an hour and call them back to see where we're at. I really really hope it's not my waters, we're only at 32w3d here
