I meant to say earlier but forgot - I washed all the newborn stuff out of the loft today, it's all white and looked lovely on the washing line in the sunshine! DH had a big grin on his face too when he saw it this evening. Smells great now too. DD was fascinated by it, kept talking about baby pyjamas for ages.

Febes · 04/04/2009 10:11

Morning all.
I have been looking on ebay for double buggies and there seems to be alot. pula Let me know about your friends one for sale as I'm interested.
I know we have had this discussion but my sisiter said to me last night n the phone that if it were her she would just get a buggy board or toddler seat and sling and use buggy I have. Now I'm wondering what to do again. It would definately be the cheaper option. I have reins for DD and she is a confident if slow walker so I'm sure she will get better and better. She will only be 17 and a half months when LO arrives but my sister said friends of hers got a double and now the toddler walks along side with reins so largely a waste of money.
My sister is in NZ though so is more likely to use the car to get out and about whereas I'm very close to town centre in Sutton so will be walking as much as possible.

I have found a couple of toddler seats on ebay Emmaljunga seat and a BNIB LITAF ride on seat thingy. Has anyone used or know of these?? I have an urban detour 3 wheeler buggy so pretty sturdy will they both fit on?? I also want to get a Kari me sling for LO so DD can go in buggy if needed. My friend has Kari me and I love it.

daizydoo · 04/04/2009 10:57

Febes - I've been pondering the same thing and ds has just turned 2. My thinking is that ds is a nightmare whilst walking so it would be easier to have him in his own seat and also if we're out and he's tired if he was on a buggy board he wouldn't be able to sleep...

I've just been sorting out and washing the baby clothes and have found a pair of mittens bnib - so if anyone wants them just shout and I'll post them to you...

llareggub · 04/04/2009 11:16

Febes my biggest problem and concern is that whilst DS is 2.5 and a great walker, he is also a greater bolter as well and I can't see myself ditching the buggy to chase after him, or running after him with the baby in a sling. I've been trying to work on him over the last few months to get him holding onto the empty buggy or holding my hand, but success rather depends on his mood and tiredness.

So I don't know what to do, either!

Belgianchocolates · 04/04/2009 12:01

Morning ladies,

I've had the most horendous night's sleep. I had the brilliant idea to put a waterproof cover over our matress, causing me to sweat and overheat and get stuck to the matress, so today I'm doing absolutely nothing

As for double buggies: my dcs were 2.1y apart last time and I thought I'd be OK with a buggy board or buggy and sling. I did end up buying a 2nd hand double buggy for about 6m as I found the arrangement didn't quite work. DS would get tired standing on the buggy board and dd was too heavy in the sling after about 2 months making my back all achy on longer walks + when she got heavier I got my SPD symptoms back, so I avoided using the sling because of that. I think getting a 2nd hand double buggy is not a bad idea. They don't tend to lose their value either, so you wont lose out if you find that you're actually OK with a single buggy. I actually made a £10 profit when I sold the double buggy

Febes Those emmaljunga toddler seats go on emmaljunga prams. They look good so I tried one, but they are very very bulky and wont fit in most car boots. We had an estate at the time, so it fit, but the people who bought it of me struggled to get it into their own car.

Febes · 04/04/2009 12:58

Well I've just been for a lovely walk up the high street and I just don't think I will be able to do without a double. I had a bad back with DD so I was worried about the sling idea but my back has been good so far this time but I really don't want to risk it and I was walking along wondering where on earth I would put my feet with a buggy board/ seat attached. I also tried letting DD walk up the last 5 houses to our house on the way home and she fell over and spent agggggggessss in our neighbours garden picking up stones. I know in time she will get bigger and better but I don't think I have the patience... Also I will be off work this time so walking to toddler groups and library and shops everyday.

Off to kiddicare web site for me. Thanks for the link Blotted it is way cheaper- why did I not know of it before? Its cause I'm the second hand queen . I think it might be better to get a new one as the ones on ebay are quite expensive. Pula I'm still interested looking at your friends one so let me know.

emmabemmasmom · 04/04/2009 13:16

Hello ladies!

Been following the pram ideas, and we have also chosen to go with the P&T. I had bought a side by side from Mothercare and a few weeks ago when I put it all together I realized it would not fit in our boot!! I even did measurments before I ordered it, but ended up having to take it back. I actaully got my P&T from someone on MN last week...

I never liked the look of the P&T either, but now that I am in the position of needing a double I think it is the best option for me. My LO's will be 18 months apart. DD is just starting to walk outside on her own however she is nowhere near being able to walk next to me while I push a pram.

I also love the idea that the second seat can stay attached and I will use it as storage if DD wants to walk, but then the offer of a seat is there if she wants it. Also, once she does decide to walk everywhere I will not have to invest in yet another single as this one can be my single pram too.

Knowing my DD...she will want to walk everywhere now, but when DD#2 comes and she sees her all cozy with a ride...then she will want one too!

Anyway, that is just my thought process lol

Febes · 04/04/2009 13:30

Just had a proper look on kiddicare the pink camo and pink and blue camo are 299. I wish I knew what this LO was now.
Hopefully they will have this special on for a while yet. Can't really afford it but its better than 400 like at other places. Still looking for a bargin on ebay...

Belgianchocolates · 04/04/2009 14:31

Febes before I got the buggy board I wondered how I could walk without tripping over it, but it's actually cleverly designed and it never was in my way. And that's with being 5'10" and most of that length is in my legs

Momino · 04/04/2009 14:34

hi all.
about doubl buggies: DDs are 20 months apart and I found it so much easier to have a double buggy as we go on lots of dog walks which are just that bit too far for dd1 on a buggy board. even at 3 and a bit, she gets tired walking (we had to go 2 mi to MW appt yesterday - she did one way). Also, it's easier for me and quicker.

I love the P&T since it fits through most doors, has been rugged enough for dog walks, and I especially loved the baby 'cocoon' which we used for dd2 until about 6 months - no one knew she was in there, snug as a bug!

detsy · 04/04/2009 16:34

My Lo will be 18 months and I agonised over this for ages (as some of you know) have bitten the bullet and gone for a double as think there is no way Lotti could walk for a long time and its v v slow progress with lots of exploration of everything every few seconds!!

I have a sling too (close baby) so will prob use this and the bee for short hops

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 04/04/2009 16:43

Belgian

Why were you posing for the photographer in your pants?

Everyone, please stop me eating so much. I have gone the opposite way to a lot of you and seem to have a ravenous appetite. I will be a big wobble-bottom by the end of this pregnancy.

Must. not. eat. cheese. all. the. time. or. chocolate. which. I don't. eat. when. I'm. not. pregnant.

OP posts:
Febes · 04/04/2009 18:08

I hear you grumpy cheese and choc are a favourite of mine too. I kept telling myself I only have 4 more weeks to eat myself silly then I will have to show some restrain .

daizydoo · 04/04/2009 19:12

Don't worry grumpy my appetite hasn't diminished either. If I don't eat I feel ill!

I can't reach the floor to pick things up without an effort, but have been wondering why I keep dropping stuff!! Oh and making supper tonight I managed to set light to my jumper - I'm a walking disaster at the moment!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 04/04/2009 19:15

Febes

I wouldn't mind, but I am like some sort of chocolate-eating machine.

Pre-pregnancy I could happily go months without chocolate. Cheese I always liked, but I'm eating more than usual because I'm not drinking my 15 cups of tea and coffee a day with milk in, drinking Redbush Tea without milk instead, so I need my calcium innit?

I am trying to eat dark chocolate though (proper posh dark chocolate) which is 'good for you' in moderation.

In defence of my gluttony, I am eating tonnes and tonnes of fresh fruit and veg too.

OP posts:
llareggub · 04/04/2009 19:19

Still no problems with my appetite, though oddly my consultant did ask me if I'd lost my appetite. Maybe it is common in pregnancy around now?

Is anyone else exhausted in the afternoon? I've taken to napping every afternoon this week for at least 2 hours. I'm so, so tired. It is like the first trimester all over again!

Had a good shopping trip yesterday. We bought some lovely, bright babygrows in John Lewis, but weren't very impressed by the very limited selection of bouncy chairs in JL and Mamas and Papas. M&P had a wider range, but had nothing in stock at all. We ended up in Mothercare, bought one that was reduced so I bought a few nursing vests with built-in support. They aren't particularly supportive, but I found them quite comfortable with a nursing bra underneath last time. Oh, and I bought some teeny tiny socks from Baby Gap. First timers my NCT group did a not very scientific poll which concluded that Gap socks are the only ones that stay on feet!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 04/04/2009 19:20

daizydoo

Glad it's not just me who's a clumsy fool. I haven't set light to myself though, DH has. 'Twas an accident, honest!!!!

OP posts:
Belgianchocolates · 04/04/2009 19:36

Daizy I'm dropping everything I get my hands off as well. Soooo annoying because I can't pick it up easily. In the middle of the night last night I grabbed my crutched, dropped one, which hit the glass of water on my bedside table and fell over. Upon which DH mumbled something about 'f'ing knocking over stuff' and 'waking him up'

I heard about the famous Baby Gap socks staying on. As my lo will live in baby gros because I wont manage to ever change it into anything else with 2 other dcs around I've decided not to buy any socks

My appetite hasn't really diminished, but nothing tastes right and I feel nauseouse nearly all the time. I can't fit a proper big meal in anymore either. I never had that troubly with the other 2. It really as been such a different pregnancy this time.

DH has finally come forward with a name for a boy: Michael. Mick in every day life. What do you think? It was on our list with ds, but at the last minute we picked something else.

Blottedcopybook · 04/04/2009 19:42

My DCs are 14 months apart so I had to have a double but the side by side McLaren was the biggest waste of money ever. The wheels were crap so we couldn't go around the local park, the seats were so narrow that DS2 (who is massive) always looked squished and uncomfortable and the seat covers didn't come off to be washed. Worst money I've spent on a baby product.

I keep the second seat attached on our P&T but DS2 very rarely goes in it now and for the most part he's fairly responsible - if I tell him to come back, 9/10 times he will but he's three now so I should be able to trust him.

Re: Clumsiness - Yes. Yes yes yes, I am falling over all the time and my spatial awareness is shot to shit.

Re: Appetite - I have zero appetite and the weight is falling off me. I haven't weighed myself but I can feel it at my hips - I was a 16-18 when I fell pregnant and I can still get my pre-pregnancy jeans on and fastened.

daizydoo · 04/04/2009 19:47

Belgian - I'm being threatened with the spare room as I keep waking dh up when I turn over.

Ds never had any problems keeping any socks on as a baby - maybe that's due to the fact he had such big feet!!

Well better go and bath ds, I can't believe its so light so late!!

Belgianchocolates · 04/04/2009 20:04

daizy I wake myself up when turning over, but dh seems to be able to sleep through it. It's the spd pain that wakes me at night

Febes · 04/04/2009 20:20

Belgian My SPD has been much better this pregnancy but I also wake to turn over and go to the loo etc and it is worse then. It doesn't bother me too much during the day. What am I doing wrong? I keep my legs together and sleep with a pillow between my knees but it really hurts for the first 3/4 steps out of bed. Thank goodness its good during the day as I found it so painful last time.

Blotted your kids are so cute!! I want to eat your bananoffe pie

EmmalinaC · 04/04/2009 20:24

Evening all! Hope you're all having good weekends?

Llare is quite right about Baby Gap socks. Don't waste your money on anything else! (Actually Trumpette socks stay on as well ones like this but they are so comically expensive that you wouldn't want to buy them yourself - drop hints to you childless friends instead!)

Blotted I am slightly of your weight loss. I was really careful up until a couple of weeks ago and now I can't stop scoffing.
It's cheese and chocolate for me too. And hurrah! it's Easter next weekend which hopefully DD will get lots of eggs that she can't possible be allowed to eat so mummy will have to scoff them all instead...

Oooh, anyone in South London area, we are trying to arrange a meet-up via our facebook - if you're interested have a look! Dandy can add you if you're not already signed up.

Anyone else suddenly feeling really, really exhausted and out of breath? I have been back to bed twice today and was feeling quite energetic up until now. Presumably baby will 'drop' soon and then I'll get my breath back?

divedaisy · 04/04/2009 20:29

Hi Gals! Oh I had an absolutely gorgeous blissful Spa Day yesterday. 4 hours of pampering! Even got my toenails painted a lovely choc brown! Highly recommended...

Belgianchocs - Well Done!!!!!!! 'Fantasket' as ds says!! Regarding your waterproof matress cover that has left you overheating and sweaty - try the brand 'hippy chick' - I have 4 single bed 'draw-sheets' that I use on ds's bed for night time training. I have taken 2 of them (side by side)and have them on our King Size bed. They are 100% waterproof and cotton without the plastic backing. Google 'hippy chick' because you can get fitted sheets out of the same material as well as the draw sheets.

Chocolatebunnies - you are doiong so well1! I'm so impressed with how much you have changed within a week. Your confidence and determination is inspiring. You deserve all the pride you feel!

I've just remembered my Boots.com delivery arrived today - so will go in a while to check out the baby stuff (incl disposable biodegradable friendly nappies & wipes) as well as treating myself to new makeup for hospital!!

Also need to do some topiary on my lady garden - it's now so overgrown I think I could shape it into an elephant!!!

Will be starting the Rasp Leaf tea tablets soon too., and will look out for caulophyllum 6c too.

Well best get ds off to bed now before Casulty starts!

Lovely to catch up with you all today- so much happens in a day!! And thanks (?) Dandy for culling the list...

PS love this emotion the bestest - so cute!!

rosielady · 04/04/2009 20:32

blotted - really feel for you and hubbie - it sounds as though the union is really the way to go - seems extremely unfair esp as he has had good feedback etc on his performance. Be persistent!

chocbunnies well done you - I have always had a soft spot for a library - always felt like a safe place for me - and you are making great progress getting out and about.

Re: appetite - not really lost it yet and managing to eat a fair bit of junk - got cheesy bacon potato skins and chicken strips in the oven as we speak!

Hopefully i will be overcome with a desire to eat lots of salads and fruit in the summer months!

Was v. grumpy mum and wife today - got wound up about me having to be the discipline enforcer because DH is reluctant to see it through - ie not taking DS swimming because he was playing up so much despite many warnings. - is it just me? am i a grumpy old boot?

Had a rest for a couple of hours late this pm and a nice bath and feel so much better now though - at 32+5 Dont know how i am going to manage another 4 weeks of work? what was i thinking?
