I jsut have to work out how to link the old one now!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
helips · 06/04/2009 08:15

Morning all! I've had a quick scan of the posts but there are too many to catch up on so will read properly later, but hope everyone is well.

lovelypear so sorry to hear your news, hope you are ok and good luck for the future.

Welcome and congrats to claired21!

We had a lovely weekend in Poole, wasn't the weather gorgeous! I am starting to get more symptoms now, sore boobs and constipation, the latter is very annoying but makes me feel more relieved! Got my scan later at 6pm so fingers crossed!

Did something silly yesterday. Took ds to a farm and we went on a tractor ride. It was really bumpy and afterwards i saw in the leaflet that it wasn't recommended for pregnant women. Then I had a tummy ache on the way home and got really worried but seems ok now. Please reassure me that the baby is well padded at the moment and won't of been affected by the bumpy ride.

Better go, ds is trying to type too! will read all posts later and catch up properly. Have a nice day everyone!

katster37 · 06/04/2009 09:18

Wow have just spent ages catching up on all the news!!

Helips I'm sure the tractor said that because if you fell off it, it wouldn't be very good for the baby, not because of the bumpiness. And if it was a bit bumpy, that's probably why you had tummy ache after. It's not high impact enough to do anything, don't worry,

LovelyPear I'm really sorry to hear your news. I hope you have lots of lovely people around you to support you.

Hello to everyone else and fantastic news re scans weston.

Cies I had a slightly similar reaction when I told my grandparents this weekend - my Nan was ridiculously excited, and squealed 'Oooooo I hope it's a girl!!' And I laughed and said, 'but little boys are lovely too', and she said 'yes, but girls are best' - Now I'm worried she won't like it if it's a boy!! How strange, these reactions - even if you felt that strongly you would think you could keep it to yourself.
We had a busy weekend telling DH's family - My FIL announced it to the whole pub we were in, I nearly died, DH had said to keep it v quiet as it was still so early but FIL was having none of it. SIL cried she was so happy, so now I am even more terrifying of MCing as everyone knows and is so happy....! Although it is nice everyone is so pleased and it does make it seem a bit more real now. My mum and dad were wrapping me in cotton wool all weekend, I was hardly even allowed to breathe on my own!

Soooo glad it's the Easter hols. Although am in waiting double glazing people to come and fit entire flat with new windows so don't think today will be v relaxing. They were meant to be here ages ago

cupofteaplease · 06/04/2009 09:21

I feel really teary this morning. I am meant to have my booking in appointment with the midwife this afternoon. As it takes 45 minutes I'd arranged for my siter to have my children for an hour as they are only 3 and 22 months, so wouldn't sit through 45 minutes.

Anyway, my sister has text this morning to say she's been called into work so she can't have them. My dh is at work until 10pm and the only mum friend I have around here has already said she's busy this pm having a massage.

So, the MW only sees patients in the clinic on Mondays. Next Monday is bank holiday and the following Monday I am back at uni (which I cannot miss any of- on the final stretch now), so I won't be able to be booked in until the half term at the end of May which is another 7 weeks away so I will be anywhere between 14 and 16 weeks pregnant.

I really wanted to get a date for my scan as my early reassurance scan last week was less than reassuring.

Feel really down at having no support available.

iggypiggy · 06/04/2009 09:39

cupcake so sorry you had a bad time in hosp - think I will be joining you tho but scan is tomorrow so can tell you all for sure then.

lovelypear so sorry to hear your news too.

Not long till everyone having their scans? Exciting. x

Fruitpastels · 06/04/2009 10:00

cupoftea could you take the kids and stock up on lots of food (bribes!), books and a couple of toys. I'm sure the MW is used to having kids attending the appointments and she'll get through the questions as quick as poss. I know it's not easy, as I have the same problem with appts all the time. I hope you manage to get there today

BeckyBendyLegs · 06/04/2009 10:02

Cupoftea I'd have them over to play if I lived close by! Poor you. Are you still going to go? If I were you I would still go and just hope they are ok. Can you bribe them with a special treat afterwards if they are good (I know quite hard for the 22 month old to understand - a drink and cake in a local cafe usually works for my two or a new toy in Tescos or something).

helips I am sure you are ok. They probably have to say that because of health and safety.

katster37 · 06/04/2009 11:04

oh cupoftea poor you. As others have said can you not take them in, and bribe them - explaining to MW your situation? In fact i would ring MW and say how upset you are and I bet she'll be understanding.
They could come here if they didn't mind window-fitters!!

pedalmonster · 06/04/2009 12:07

have been here since 9.30 trying to catch up with everyones news! So sorry to hear the bad news - so sad.

Well after my rant on THursday I have been invited for an early scan tomorrow (for dating purposes). I didnt even have to phone the GP or ask for one - but that is Kingston HOspital! I had DS1 there and have to say they were BRILLIANT. I am expecting them to say 6+5 (according to my brilliant maths)but i guess we will see what they say! Terrified (like all of us) that there is something wrong - but feeling slightly reassured by nausea and sore boobs! And the obligitory paranoia and neurosis.

turtle23 · 06/04/2009 13:06

pedalmonster- you lucky thing being at kingston!! They're fab. I'm at St Helier (except that I'm having a homebirth.) Have to say though that if my baby ends up breech or twins I'll be changing to Kingston in a second!

BeckyBendyLegs · 06/04/2009 13:52

My latest discovery: Nesquick milkshake. Oh heaven!!!!!

katster37 · 06/04/2009 14:01

pedalmonster great that you have an early scan sorted. Hopefully it will put your mind at rest.
WHEN WILL IT BE 12 WEEKS?????????? Sorry, am feeling fed up of all the emotions/sickness of first trimester and want to feel more confident about it all!!!

BeckyBendyLegs · 06/04/2009 14:10

I'm fed up too. I feel fat, sick, bloated, tired, shivery and generally bllaaaaa. I haven't even got a date yet for a scan. And it is only day 1 of the school holidays and already they are bored!!!! I said to DH yesterday 'I am only 7 weeks 4 days and its only 3 weeks since I did the test' and he said 'wow, it's seems much longer than that!'

tigger32 · 06/04/2009 15:29

Hello,
lovelyPear I'm so sorry to hear your news, look after yourself.

cupoftea I agree with the others, take them with you and go loaded with snacks, crayons, books etc. I'm sure the midwife will understand.

After my problems with choosing the right hospital on Friday, I've got myself sorted, I had a phone call from a midwife at the unit in town on friday night and she invited me in on Saturday morning for a look around and it was Lovely while I was there I had a big chat with her and she has booked me in, I should get my scan date in the post soon.
It was a really small unit with 4 private rooms and a birthing pool room, i can't wait to get there now !!

Anyone else struggling to keep up with their housework is it just me ?

pedalmonster · 06/04/2009 15:44

Tigger - Housework? Phaa! Have given up on that. we had friends round on saturday and I got 3 of those massive packing boxes from the loft, and just dumped all the clutter / bills / broken toys / half eaten sandwiches / random socks / nursery paintings into them, then got DH to put them in the garage. (Temporary measure - figured I can clear them out at leisure when I should be working from home some time...). DH was so impressed that I had tidied! [polishes crooked halo]
But my new thing is to just throw things out. [hahaha she laughs, knowing that will never happen...]

scarlotti · 06/04/2009 16:07

pedalmonster I like your style! I do the same when people are coming but just ram drawers full. I seem to forget then though and find unpaid bills weeks later when searching for a take away menu There must be an easier way surely?

I have to say that the acupuncture I've been having has sorted the nausea out wonderfully. It's still there in the background but nowhere near as debilitating as it was. I still have sore boobs and disrupted sleep, so guess you can't win 'em all! Looking forward to a 4 day weekend though, just want to sit and do nothing these days. Took ds to the park yesterday and it almost finished me off! Dreadful mother I am too, poor mite ended up with a touch of sunburn on the back of his neck Should I be allowed to have another?

tigger am so pleased you got the unit thing sorted and am so that you're going to a unit. I'd love to but it's too far away for us.

cupofteaplease · 06/04/2009 17:48

Well, I took all the advice and took the girls with me to see the midwife and they were ANGELS! So pleased I went. Luckily, dd1 didn't catch onto the reason why we were there- I guess she doesn't understand the word 'pregnancy' yet!

Anyway, I got my notes, but procedure now is to get us to fill in as much of it as we can ourselves. She also booked me in for another appointment to do my bloods in 2 weeks when the girls won't be with me, and gave me all the things I need to sort out my urine tests.

She took my details, and from our conception dates she has given me the EDD of 5th November, so I am 9+4 according to her (of course, the scan last week said I was 6 weeks then, which I thought was too early) so I will know for sure when I get my scan date through, which she said could be this week. In my area now they offer a combined dating sacn and nuchal translucency, which I have declined, so I might get an earlier appointment as she says most people want the full nuchal scan as well.

I feel it's all a lot more real now! Although, with being with the midwife I didn't notice my 4pm daily nausea- hope that's not a bad sign...

Scarlotti- don't feel bad about the sunburn, my parenting mantra has always been one of kindly neglect, if you leave them to it, they sort themselves out eventually JOKING, of course

BeckyBendyLegs · 06/04/2009 17:59

cupoftea so pleased it went well for you

I'm cooking sausages. Yuck. They smell so bad. I can't imagine wanting to eat sausages (it's for tea for the DSs). I'm just glad my nose is still a bit blocked up.

scarlotti the acupuncture sounds good! I was considering that when my nausea was bad a couple of weeks ago but it got a bit better. It's now getting bad again so might consider it again (I'll probably dither about it until I find I feel better knowing me).

Housework? What's that then?

Ninjacat · 06/04/2009 18:01

Can I join? Due date est 19th November.
This is baby number two for me but baby number one is now twelve years old so all feels new.
I bled for the first two weeks after a positive test, have had two early scans and am due for another tomorrow but the doctors say they are not worried so we are keeping positive.
I've not been sick but feel neausous quite often. I wake in the night two or three times to go to the loo. I'm constantly thirty and
my breasts have swollen and are soooo sore.
Is this normal?

Cies · 06/04/2009 18:08

Hi Ninjacat - everyone else on this thread has some or all of those symptoms, plus others! I think it's all normal at this stage. Welcome, and good to hear that the bean is well despite the bleeding.

I've just got up from a two hour siesta (am on holiday this week) and feel full of beans! I went for a walk this morning with a friend, who doesn't yet know I'm pg, and we ended up doing a massive 3 hour hike! Luckily I'd taken water and a peanut butter sandwich to fuel me just in case. But actually I felt fine. Which of course I am now worrying about. A week ago I couldn't have done that, but now...

Did someone mention housework? My parents are flying over from UK on Wednesday to stay for a few days, and our spare room has been used exclusively as a junk/laundry/storage room for a year I really need to get in there, take boxes up to the store room in the attic and dust and hoover. I've promised myself I'll do it tomorrow.

ursigurke · 06/04/2009 18:14

Cies and Katster - I guess it is normal that people have slight preferences but in the end they will be very happy with whatever it will be. I remember that I also wanted to have a niece rather than a nephew. But then I was so pleased with the nephew that I would have prefered a second nephew instead of a niece Now I think, they are both just great and even better that there is one of each.

cupofteaplease - glad to hear that you had your appointment and from my experience it is just normal that you didn't notice your daily nausea because there was something more important going on. On very busy days, I never feel nauseous at all. But so far it always came back on the following days.

Today I was quite well (just tired), don't know if I was too busy again or if the nausea is just easing off. After all, I'm already in the 11th week.
And my SIL booked an appointment for a scan back home on friday. I'm really looking forward to it.

BeckyBendyLegs · 06/04/2009 18:15

Yes! You are describing my symptoms exactly. I am sooo thirsty and I can't sleep on my front my boobies ache so much.

Ninjacat · 06/04/2009 18:25

Hi Cies - Thanks for the reassurance, I feel a little more normal now.
I have just returned from a weekend in the country where my partner and I walked the coast path in the morning and took a two hour walk down the beach in the afternoon. I'm under the impression a little exercise and a lot of fresh air can't be a bad thing!
The worst thing is that my family have a dairy farm so trying to avoid unpasturised milk and having to drink black (redbush) tea was pretty tricky.

Your parents coming over sounds like a perfect excuse to get some help in to do the spare room.

katster37 · 06/04/2009 18:32

Beckybendylegs I too am ragingly thirsty all the time too. Am getting through gallons. And just had another house-related trauma - stupid window fitters did something to our door which meant I was totally locked out so had to ring a locksmiths, wait an hour outside (getting paranoid about air pollution) and retching every 2 minutes. And pay 80 sodding quid for the privelege. SO cross.

Cupoftea I am so pleased you went. How did you manage to bribe the girls to be such angels?

Usigurke it's weird how you think you want a particular gender isn't it. I always thought I wanted a girl first (like you can choose!) but I saw the CUTEST little boy today and it pulled my heart strings. I am so convinced I am having a boy, I almost don't think it's worth thinking about girls names! I am massively craving salty things and I think baby was conceived day before I ovulated which apparently favours boy sperm What do you ladies think you might be having?! Shame it's rather a long wait to actually find out!

Ninjacat · 06/04/2009 18:58

BeckyBendyLegs so glad I'm not alone.

ursigurke · 06/04/2009 19:11

*katster" - it's the same for me. I always thought I wanted to have a girl first but now I think it will be a boy and I kind of would prefer it. And it was conceived one day before ovulation or on the day of ovulation so it is more likely to be a boy. My husband used to speak of "him", more for a joke (he is planning to have a football team) but I don't want him to do so, so now he usually says "it". Even if it is just a joke now, he just might get so used to the idea of having a boy that in the end he will be disappointed if it is a girl.
You mentioned that you are craving salty things, would that be a sign? I am completely off chocolate and think salt sticks and Tuc cracker are the best snacks ever.

BTW for some reason women around me seem to have a boy first. I guess that is just a coincidence.
