Hi, midwife appointment yesterday. Not very enlightening but she did tell me my hospital have started doing the combined test for Downs which means I can get a 1 in x likelihood at my 12 week scan (15 April). Said yes, but now it's something else to worry about....

Does anyone else just feel that doing the same sort of exercise / everyday stuff as before is such a huge effort now? It feels as if my heart is working twice as hard as normal just to get me walking to school and back and chasing after everybody. I need energy!

I'm supposed to be helping out at DS1's school Easter disco this afternoon. Not sure I have the energy.

Koumak · 03/04/2009 14:14

Travelinglight we are in the same hospital!

I had mw app this morning and she was lovely. She explained every single upcoming app and scans etc. Also took my history and blood etc. Apparently at 12 weeks they take your blood first and while that is done you have the scan and then you get the results of both at the same time. I am glad we don?t have to wait two weeks or so like I had to when pg with ds.

I am off tom so wont be on here for about two weeks. God knows how I am going to catch up with you when I do come back!
Just updating the EDD as she put it down as 28 Oct even though my cycle is anything 32-35 days. She did say we will wait for the dating scan and use that as EDD after that.

OP posts:
pavlovthepregnantcat · 03/04/2009 15:02

omg, morning sickness has hit me with a vengeance. Nothing is staying down today, and i am upchucking really violently. I felt sick earlier as was hungry, could only manage yoghurt. And then i felt sick cos i had eaten. the only thing i can manage today is sipping hot forest fruit squash. not even toast and marmite is staying put.

i feel awful, loads of washing to hang out, just can't do it. can't even be bothered to do capitals here as typing with one hand !

dh is being an arse too. not that sympathetic, and its only 7 weeks in . i had this all the way through with dd

tigger32 · 03/04/2009 16:21

scarlotti thats a good way of thinking, if they were both in the same town I would pick where I went with ds1 purely because it was amazing, they have lots of staff on hand to help b/feeding etc and because its quiet but not too quiet it feels very homely.
Having said that I've never been into the unit in my home town because until you are registered with them they won't let you in!
pav poor you, men can be pigs can't they! i really hope you start to feel a bit better soon
iggypiggy I am keeping everything crossed you

pavlovthepregnantcat · 03/04/2009 16:28

oh that sounded like dh was an arse all the way through my last pg, I meant that I had the MS all the way through poor man, his ears burn as it is when I tap away on MN! . I think he is fed up already as he can see the next few months dragging on, he thinks it is going to be the same as last time and therefore he thinks he knows what to expect. He is also not working which means he is a grumpy sod anyway , probably also feeling a bit sexually frustrated and knows he aint getting ought for the forseeable future with me like this!!!

Flumpity · 03/04/2009 17:25

pavlov that ms sounds awful.

i never actually threw up and haven't yet this time either, but "morning" sickness is v misnamed for me, i just feel nauseous from waking to sleeping which i think, on balance, is probably worse than chucking up first thing then feeling ok. what does anyone else have? its like feeling travel sick and queasy all the bleeding time.

southernbelle77 · 03/04/2009 18:12

Evening all. I went for my early scan today. Was good in that everything looked pretty fine and could see the heartbeat which was the main thing I wanted to see. However she dated me at 7 weeks instead of 7+6 which I thought I was. It's probably due to my cycle being longer last time (although can't remember what it was just remember being late before going on holiday!) and she wasn't at all concerned, but well, I'm still a little bit worried that it's not growing properly! DH thinks its just that I always have to have something to worry about!! Got a little pic of peanut too which is good! My 12 week scan in on the 5th May so just have to be patient until then!! I don't do patience very well!! The lady who did the scan was lovely as she was the same one who did it when I had my mc last year and so understood my worries etc! I'm just a worry wart I guess!!
On the symptoms front, I've not felt that bad today apart from the initial throwing up in the morning! If that continues I can cope as with dd I was sick constantly until about 32 weeks!!
Anyway, after all that, I am happy with how today went and I'm going to stop worrying and moaning so much (well, at least I promise I will try!!)
Just going to try and catch up on all the other posts today now!

cupofteaplease · 03/04/2009 18:20

Hi Southernbelle77- that is EXACTLY how I felt after my scan! I saw the heartbeat which was great, but she dated me a week and a half behind what I thought I was, so I panicked that baby wasn't growng properly. In a way, I don't think early reassurance scans are very reassuring after all!

I had horrendous MS with DD, but have been actually sick only once so far (7+4) but have been batteling constant nausea.

Today however i felt pretty good and have deliberatly eaten constantly to make up for the previous days when i felt too sick and tired to eat

I am still going to my slimming world class, and therefore am weighed every week - its funny, but i appear to be gaining weight Might have something to do with the fact that i only want to eat bread and mini cheddars lol

Flumpity · 03/04/2009 19:15

i find eating is the only thing that stops the nausea (briefly!). means i always turn into a blimp quickly. sadly a skinny yummy mummy pregnancy just isn't me...

Joycey29 · 03/04/2009 19:51

HI guys, glad I have found you again!
Had a nightmare week - stress with DH and fears of ectopic led to early scan - about 5 + 4 weeks. Not ectopic but couldn't see much - could see a pregnancy but no bean Am really sure it's way too early but worried as obviiusly have to wait for another week.
They diagnosed a conception cyst which could be causing pain but just don't know. Other than sleeping I have no other symptons.
Am I going mad???

ldeeanna · 03/04/2009 21:34

Glad all those with scans have gone ok!! Im jealous-even though I didn't ask for one-had no good reason for having one so felt scared to ask!! Although im obsessed with waking up and proding my boobs to see if they still hurt-my only main sympton! They still do but its getting ridiculous-how are we all supposed to wait this long!!! ive hopefully got just under 5 more weeks of panic!
Im going to spell this wrong Usigurke sorry-tried best without having to flip back a page!! Dont worry about your partner-it must be a lot different for them to connect because its not physical for them and they are the more mean and miserable sex!! But I think once they see a bump/scan/heartbeat they will be excited! Hopefully!!

LissyGlitter · 04/04/2009 00:06

Well I was actually sick for the first time today, twice. Not happy as this (7+5 or thereabouts) is when it started with Dd and it didn't stop till a month beofre she was born. I'm due a promotion at work and really can't afford any time off

I got some of those accupressure bands-I think you have to actually believe in them before they work-I know acupuncture has been disproved, but i was so keen to just find anything to stop things getting so bad. Jealous of people for whom things like that work.

Finding it really hard to keep up with dd-she's been sent to my mums for the weekend. Feel really horrible for doing so, but I'm working anyway, so it's not like I'm not doing anything.

Still not got round to taking the second urine sample to the doctors, I really should as I suppose they need that before they can consider giving me anything for MS-they wouldn't give me anything till right at the end last time, but hoping they take pity on me this time. I'm sure the terrible pregnancy contributed to me going completely mental after I had dd.

LissyGlitter · 04/04/2009 00:27

Feeling miserable and really sick DOn't want to lie down as it might make me feel worse. I keep missing my anti-ds as I can't swallow them without wanting to throw them backup again. If this entire weekend is like this I'm making an appoitment with my doctor first thing monday for anti sickness drugs. It's not fair on my dd if I have to spend another preganancy in bed.

turtle23 · 04/04/2009 07:31

So this is where everyone went!!!

scarlotti · 04/04/2009 07:51

LissyGlitter am not sure I agree with your statement about acupuncture being disproved, although obviously each to their own. I've had it twice this pg and it's really helped. I was nauseous from the moment I woke until I went to bed and it's really eased. I had it after my ds too as I had post natal depression, it eased my symptoms for a while. I think that if you get a good practitioner it makes all the difference.
Where are you putting the wrist bands? The point the little ball thing has to sit at is 3 fingers width down from your wrist, then in between the two tendons you can feel. You've hit the right spot if it feels slightly bruised when you press it.

I hope you feel better soon.

belgianbun I found the pracitioner by looking for a clinic in my area then rang and spoke to them. Experience and a relatively full appointment diary is what you're looking for I think! They also should have done a 4 year course. Good luck, I've really found it a help - doesn't get rid of it completely if I'm tired but it does allow me to get through the work day. I only get paid when I work so it's crucial I manage to get through the day.

flumpity am like you too, never sick just feeling nauseous all day - until I get my needles! Eating seems to help although I do get full and nauseous too then, sigh

southernbelle congrats on the scan. Joycey hope the next one gives more reassurance but it's looking good for your dates.

Hope everyone else is feeling ok (ish) today. Sleeping seems to be elusive for me at the moment! Too many vivid dreams going on and they wake me up. Ah well, at least it's the weekend so I can go back to bed later

ursigurke · 04/04/2009 07:56

Good morning all! It is almost impossible to catch up here if you miss a day of conversation.
For those who worry about their early scan results: I don't really understand how they can tell you the exact date! I do not believe that all beans grow at the exact same speed. And there is also the possibility that the staff who does the scan makes a mistake. Especially when the bean is still so small a mistake of 1mm would already mean a huge difference in days. I don't even understand why they are so obsessed to change calculated due dates if it is just for a couple of days. How many babies are actually born on their due date?

For those with terrible MS, especially LissyGlitter: I hope you will soon feel better.

About my husband: I'm not worried about his (strange) opinions, he just repeated it yesterday. He is a mathematician so thinks (at least in this case) very logically. I told him that almost all women seem to have at least one mc in their life and that it is just part of the whole having a baby thing. So, it is normal and no reason to be sad. If only it was as simple as that for all of us!
As said before, it must be difficult for men to understand what is going on, especially if they only experience or see the bad side of early pregnancy: she is only feeling bad, needs help, doesn't want to have sex,... poor guys
He is actually very nice and takes care of me if I'm not feeling well (even if I feel fine)
And he wants me to have a scan in Austria even if I now have got at least a date for the first appointment here. He wants to understand everything and it would be easier in German. I guess that is a good sign.
I hope you will all have a very nice weekend and for those who are off for holidays: Enjoy them!

Tabbykat · 04/04/2009 08:10

Can I join in? Jumped on a few weeks ago but then had a few weeks of worries where bean not growing well so haven't posted since - but had a scan on Thursday and now all in line with dates, saw heartbeat and tiny arm and leg buds so feel a bit more confident now!

Hope everyone feeling ok this morning? Getting v bored of feeling nauseous all the time and the only thing that helps is to keep eating - will be the size of a house by the end.

Recognise Southernbelle77 from the CM threads - how are you finding it?!

Added myself in below (hope I've done it right) - gosh there's a lot. Must be all that Valentine's BD...Anyone else in West Kent?

Fruitpastels · 04/04/2009 10:06

Morning ladies, This thread moves so quickly. I'm sorry some of you are worrying about your early scan results. In a way I'm glad we're not offered a reassurance scan in our area (unless you've had history of complications). Another 3 weeks for my scan, I'll be 12+5 by then. I hope with the Easter hols it will fly by

I had my booking-in appt yesterday. As this is my 2nd pg the midwife was very 'pro' home birth. I met my community midwife and she said she would discuss this with me at my 20 weeks appt. I haven't even thought about the birth at this point! I'm still getting my mind around this awful MS that struck me from the word GO! It seems to be easing and I'm not being sick like I was. It's given me something to think about this home birth idea. I guess there is lots of time to decide. Has anyone had a home birth?

Tabbykat - are you a cm as well?

Laugs · 04/04/2009 10:20

I was wondering about early scans as had never heard of them, but guess they just don't offer them in my area.

Anyone else struggling with the long list of things you're not allowed in pregnancy? I had had today's caffeine quota by 7am and I'm dying for a cup of coffee! Also, it's my birthday on Tuesday and I'm trying to decide what to have as a nice meal, but most of the foods I want are banned. For some reason I have started craving peanut butter sandwiches. I blame The Apprentice.

Fruitpastels · 04/04/2009 10:25

I craved Snicker bars in my last pg. I've got loads of allergies so needed to avoid peanuts. I've been off chocolate for weeks, but starting to fancy it again - lucky for me it's Easter!

cupofteaplease · 04/04/2009 10:28

Hi all, Laugs how much caffeine are we allowed? I didn't realise there was limit- I drink tea like water!

I will be having my 3rd C section with this baby- anyone else had multiple sections? My consultant said with dd2 I could have as many as I need, providing they stitch me up well (or words to that effect!) I always thought you were only allowed 3 sections, so that was good to hear.

Laugs · 04/04/2009 10:43

Me too, Fruitpastels. I hardly ever eat peanuts anyway, but it's just because I'm not allowed them.

cupofteaplease - the guidelines have been lowered to 200mg of caffeine a day.

It's bit confuing as this, below, is from FSA, but other websites I've just looked at said no more than 4 cups of tea...

2 mugs of instant coffee ( at 100mg of caffeine each)
1 mug of filter coffee (140mg each)
2 mugs of tea (75mg each)
5 cans of cola (up to 40mg each)
2 cans of 'energy' drink (up to 80mg each)
4 (50g) bars of plain chocolate (up to 50 mg each)
The FSA stated that caffeine in milk chocolate is estimated to be about half that of plain chocolate.

I love tea too. Decaf is not the same.
