lauraloo09 · 13/04/2009 20:47

insy sorry to hear about your ds I hope the anti-biotics work for him hope you get a better sleep tonight although by sounds of things that isn't going to be likely

ineed shame about the sinusitis hope it clears up soon for you. Sorry to hear your mum didn't really grasp the concept of why your pissed off with your sister taking the name you wanted for your first dd. hope you have a nice day tomorrow at Wisley x

LittleSarah · 13/04/2009 21:12

Ineed - Sorry about your sinisitus, poor you! And your sister has been so thoughtless! Amazing how inconsiderate people can be at times. Today me and dh and dh's brother went and picked up this keyboard organ thing for my sis and took it to her house and then she phones tonight saying it wasn't really what she wanted and what should she do with it?? Argh. Numpty.

She's not that bad really though, stupid not to check this keyboard before sending us to get it, but fine really. My other sister, now, she is a different story. Incredibly selfish and thoughtless. Not heard a peep out of her about dd's birthday, she hasn't sent text/card/present/sweet fa, didn't come to birthday party on Sat (she was working I hear but not a message or anything to tell me), etc, etc. Am livid. I will see if anything comes in the mail this week before I bother getting too riled but I really cannot be bothered with her at all. (Totally typical behaviour for her sadly.

insy - sorry about your wee man, glad to hear he's improving! (I will send the book this week btw, sorry for slowness!)

Good news for Jools!

Thanks for all the cake compliments, was a proud moment for sad LittleS!

Sorry to hear about horrible heartburn tee, hello to silk and everyone else!

Tee2072 · 13/04/2009 21:22

bigcar welcome to what is know as the Dawn Phenomenon or Dawn Effect. No one is exactly sure why, but everyone's glucose goes up at dawn, some say to give you a burst of energy to help you wake up. Some say just to piss off diabetics.

About the only thing you can do about it, without insulin, is to make sure you have some protein along with your morning carbs. I know a lot of diabetic swear by cheese on brown or dark bread of some sort. A scrambled egg and half a whole wheat bagel can also work. Personally, I just shoot up my highest does of insulin for the day!!

If they do decide that you have GD, try to get them to start you on insulin right away. Its much more flexible than trying to control with diet and we have long enough to go that you're going to want the flexibility!

Sorry for the novel everyone else!!

Welcome silk!! insy I hope LO feels better soon. Poor wee thing.

Ineed feel better soon and boo!! to your mum. I would still use the name, if your baby turns out to be a girl.

bigcar · 13/04/2009 21:43

Thanks tee, I get it now, I always thought it would get worse throughout the day! Will definitely try those breakfast ideas and thanks for the insulin tip, will see what they say!

insy, hope your ds starts to feel better, do go back though if he doesn't perk up, ward closures or not!

Tee2072 · 13/04/2009 21:46

It actually gets better through out the day because every bit of activity you do, even just sitting watching TV, burns glucose! That's why, if they do give you carb counts, breakfast will be the lowest, then lunch and the highest will be dinner!

Glad I could help!

helpivegottogivebirth · 14/04/2009 08:37

Spoke to the midwife - iron supplements, such as Spatone are fine and you can't have too much.
Phew.

bunnymother · 14/04/2009 09:03

Morning ladies!

Hope you all had lovely Easters. Weather here in London was dismal over the 4 days, except for yesterday evening. And today is magical - very unfair!

LittleSarah - that cake looked amazing - well done!

Insy - sorry to hear about your little one being so sick, hope he gets better v soon.

Ineed - how obtuse are your mum and sister?? Deep breaths!

Am v tired today - more smackdown action from baby, and clever her can now punch my bladder then kick me under the ribs. Woke up in the night, then fell asleep on the couch at 7am, to be woken by DH when he got up. Really need a nap today!

Not sure who mentioned new maternity clothes (June?), but I just realised that I can't go back to my normal clothes for months due to breastfeeding . So am wandering off to Zara today to see about a wrap dress I saw yesterday. Also need to look at labour bag stuff, so off to Boots, too. Its all coming together now.

bigcar · 14/04/2009 10:00

morning all

Thanks again tee, I'm off to see the dietician at lunch time so will remember that! Hope the heartburn is easier today.

Happy shopping bunny

June2009 · 14/04/2009 10:01

mmm good point Bunny I really should have a look at tops/clothes that will be convenient for breastfeeding too.
It's hard to know what sort of size to get though, I've seen the breastfeeding dvd and these women's busts were huge, I don't think they would fit in my pre-pg t-shirts!

I hope everyone had a nice weekend, it was lovely for us, very relaxing! Even managed to fit 2 bbqs despite the weather ;)

littlesarah very impressed with your cake :D

lauraloo09 · 14/04/2009 10:19

morning all hope everyone is well

I wasn't planning on buying anymore mat clothes but bunny you've made a good point about clothes for breastfeeding and my chest is so huge (38HH) that there is no way I'll breastfeed comfortably in my normal tops. does anyone know if boobs will continue to grow towards end of pregnancy, dont think i could stand them getting any bigger

Naat · 14/04/2009 10:30

Morning Juners!!!

Hi Silk!! Tee Hope your heartburn leaves you alone today

Bigcar Good luck at the dietician's! Keep us posted.

June I'm totally with you there...which size do you get??? I keep looking at "nursing tops" in shops and cannot seem to work out which one would be the best, how you would work them out in the heat of things... (sighs) I was telling DH the other day that I didn't know what the "protocol" was to BF here... any tips from the rest of the Juners???

Laura yeah, very thick and impressive not in a good way discharge I get that every once in a while and the first time thought exactly what you thought Last day today!!!

Bunny happy shopping! Let me know if Zara has anything good "for our state" I had the same early morning here... after DH left I thought of lying down a little longer and could not get up until 10... and I did it only because my belly was rumbling really hard I feel really tired today. Hope you get a nap

Help Glad that you talked to your MW and got it sorted, girl!

LittleS sorry to hear about your sister... it does sound very thoughtless of her

Insy sorry to hear about your LO, hope he's feeling better today.

Ineed at your mum!! She's just clueless... but well... The important thing is that you're OK and that if you and DH decide to use the name, then they'll have to deal!!

Yesterday I realised I might be suffering from SPD... I heard you ladies talk about it many times but never knew exactly what it was. For some weeks now I've been feeling this strain/tension in the ligaments that start at each side of the pubic bone... well, I thought to myself "ligaments are getting ready, I guess". But yesterday I could barely walk! The pain made me cry (not that it's too hard to cry in this state, but well ) and suddenly I told DH I'd look up SPD to see if I might have that.

I think, according to what I read, that it could be, but of course, I'm not sure. I have an appt with the MW on 22nd April so I'll ask her then. Question for the Juners who are suffering from it now (Choccie and Laura come to my mind now but I'm not 100% sure), does having SPD affect your birth choice? Or can you have a home birth, water birth, birth at BCentre anyway?

Sorry for the length!!

(((Waves!!!)))

daisy5 · 14/04/2009 10:34

Hi all

I'm down in London this week so won't be online much as tonnes to get sorted and done.

Just had a quick catch up.

Ineed - completely sympathise with you. For years my mother managed to upset me with every conversation. A year and a half of counselling made me move on and confident enough such that her comments were usually 'water off a ducks back' and I felt sorry for her that she was so out of touch with her feelings and so insensitive to those close to her - as she was the one missing out on having close relationships. Does your sister manage to piss off other family members in the same way or is it reserved for sisterly competition.

It is a tough one as I assume you would be much happier if she were to choose a different name entirely as if you have a boy and she has a girl, it will always be a reminder that she 'took' your name. And if you get pregnant again you would be annoyed that she had taken it. Is there any way she is likely to see reason? I guess if this were Desperate Housewifes they would unearth something unsavoury from her past!!!!! (joking).

I think I would be so hurt by her doing that, that I would not be interested in talking to her for a very long time. There are over 36,000 names in the world, or more.

bunnymother - maternity clothes crisis here. I am going to Westfield tomorrow so am going to hunt for a maxi dress or two. I dug out two nursing tshirts from last time, and they fit fine. dp was a bit at me wearing a nursing top before giving birth but they fit me and little else does, so I don't see it matters. By the way, just talking about Wisley this morning - I used to love going for walks there - have a lovely stroll.

I have doubled my water intake and my headaches and tiredness has improved, so going to keep that up. Otherwise, loving having everyone around over Easter to keep my mind off my aches and pains.

Better get on with things.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 14/04/2009 11:20

Thanks all for your kind words with regards to mum and sister. Sister pisses most people off, but for some unfathomable reason, people are too scared to confront her about it especially mum. daisy so much of what you said hit home. If only you were my sister! You'd have no trouble understanding why I was upset!!

Well I have horrendous earache to add to my sinusitis I think I'll be making a trip down to the GPs this afternoon to see if I can take anything stronger than paracetamol as it's not touching the pain. Feeling a bit 'woe is me' today.

Naat sorry to hear about your SPD / PGP. WRT birth choices, it does limit things. I've copied out the relevant bits from my birth plan so you can see what I've put:

I have Pelvic Girdle Pain (PGP), which means that the joints in my pelvis are unstable and painful.

  • I would like internal examinations to be kept to an absolute minimum. I find it painful to lie on my back; therefore I would like to lie on my side for internal examinations, if at all possible. When lying, I need a pillow between my legs
  • If the lithotomy position is needed, please take care to lift both legs at the same time, and for as short a time as possible.
  • As far as possible, I do not want to have my feet placed on the midwife?s hips or shoulders as this will cause pain in my hips
  • I need to avoid abduction of my legs. I would like to have a choice and deliver in a position that feels natural to me at the time, preferably on my side.

There is obviously more on my plan, but these are the bits relevant to SPD / PGP. The important thing is to avoid further damage to your pelvic joints and to ake sure that you are giving yourself the best opportunity to recover quickly after the birth.

Hope this helps.

naat Ask your midwife to refer you to a physio, she can give you exercises to do.
In my case SPD is very mild so doing the exercises keeps it under control and won't impact birth positions etc, as long as you are aware what posture is good/bad for you (which the physio will go through).

Naat · 14/04/2009 16:24

Thanks, ladies!

Ineed if the diagnosis is confirmed, I will borrow those birth plan points Sorry to hear about your earache!! I hope you could see someone at your GP's and they gave you something to relieve the pain.

June yes, I'll definitely ask my MW about it next week. You're right, even if it's mild, exercises to strengthen the muscles and know which positions to adopt during chilbirth would be really useful.

Tee2072 · 14/04/2009 17:59

Evening all!

Bought our cot and mattress today. I want to set it up NOW, DH wants to wait a bit, as baby's room is still mostly used for storage. So I agreed to wait.

Also added to my maternity wardrobe this weekend. Who would think that size 22 t-shirts from M&S would be too small!! Got a couple of nice ones from Mamas & Papas.

naat I hope its not too bad!

ineed I hope your ear feels better soon.

lauraloo09 · 14/04/2009 18:17

evening all

naat i hope the pain eases for you but like june said even if the pain is mild there are exercises which will help, I know they have with me!

tee congrats on getting your cost and matress, can't wait till mothercare delivers mine next month

Well last day of work today and it was good, esp cos I was allowed to use my flexi time and finished at 12.30pm feels great and weird that I wont have work again until March 10 but then again I suppose having a baby is work in itself, not that I mind that

insywinsyspider · 14/04/2009 20:52

daisy avoided an expensive clothing crisis here by borrowing loads of stuff from other mums, so nice to have different tops to wear!

dds2 doing loads better today - set alarm throughout night to keep him dosed up and the extra sleep seems to have really helped I think we are going to try nursery tomorrow, I've run out of excuses to keep him at home now he's not got temp and eating again, now I just need some sleep, baby not giving me any trouble, quite sad I seem to have no time to focus on this pregnancy last time I did antenatal classes which was only a couple of hours a week but at least it was some space just to focus on bump, couldn't justify it this time round

hope you all had good days ineed really hope you feel better soon

insywinsyspider · 14/04/2009 20:56

naat hope mw can help you out with SPD - looks like loads of great advice from fellow sufferers

laura congrats on last day at work, enjoy mat leave

LittleSarah · 14/04/2009 21:01

insy - Know what you mean about not concentrating on pregnancy, last time I was all about baby, this time still at uni, plus I have a research job with my lecturer starting in two weeks (which I can do from home thankfully) which will easily take me up to due date! (Very well paid so worth it I keep telling myself).

However on up side, I love HOTmilk! Got my gorgeous nursing bra (and pants) today and they are lovely and comfy!

Annoyingly they've been at post office for over a week as we weren't in when they arrived and I thought it was a uni book I ordered (as had ordered it a week before)and figured I could leave it in case bra also arrived while out and save dh making two trips (sorting office MILES away of course)... then on Sat uni book arrived and I realised bloody gorgeous undies were mouldering in post office . Typical, they came so quick, ordered Thursday night, sent out Friday, arrived Sat, is that not a miracle these days?! Anyway, can't wait to get a second set nearer d day....

June2009 · 14/04/2009 21:33

laura on the subject of bra size, I think they will go bigger because the milk only comes once the baby is out.
I'm thinking of getting measured at mothercare tomorrow if I can.
now that we've gone through that massive list of customers with the bookkeeper I can relax a little bit at work. Went to lie down at 4:30 today and only got back up at 7:30 (and I still feel tired!)
Nausea has come back as well, same as fisrt trimester, but I've got the hang of eating just about half what I would have eaten usually in one go and that's keeping it under control!

lauraloo09 · 14/04/2009 22:11

hope everyone has had a plesant evening

Did anyone else watch that documentary on channel 4 called "the Hospital" all about teenage pregnancies was a very interesting programme shame there is so many young children out there losing their childhood by having babies of their own though x

silkcushion · 14/04/2009 22:35

thanks for all the welcomes.

My pg has been fine so far. Thank goodness as last time I was pretty rubbish at being pg. Not sure whether i feel better this time round or have less time to notice symptoms as I work full time and have a dd 17mo.

am expanding more quickly this time though - i look huge and now suddenly feel like i am really waddling, things are becoming an effort.

Hope you are all doing well.

June2009 · 15/04/2009 10:11

Hey Silk I'm with you on the waddling and the efforts. It takes me twice as long to get anywhere and things like loading/unloading the dishwasher involve a lot of grunting :S, and there's still almost 2 months to go still.

I finally found a "weeks" calculator that fits in with my dates for anyone interested.

We booked dinner reservations for mid-May with someone who is coming to visit from Canada and realised that'll be 3 weeks from my due date, bit scary how quick it is coming now :D (that got me started on maternity bags ;)

Naat · 15/04/2009 10:24

Morning Juners!

Tee, congrats on the purchases!!!

Laura, on being a free woman!!!

Insy, glad to hear LO is feeling better. Hope this morning he was even better than yesterday and that he was able to go to his nursery.

LittleS, I didn't know hotmilk so I googled them, wow, they have lovely things! Yay for you!

June, sorry to hear the nausea has come back HOpe it's not too bad, hon. And yes, the dates suddenly feel scarily close!!

Silk, good to hear your PG has been smooth. I've been walking funny these last few weeks, although now I know it might be due to the pelvic pain

A sleepless spell last night but not a long one, thank God. I'm feeling I can't get up in the morning, though, just like in the first trimester (June, I guess these things come back?). I managed to drag myself out of bed at 10 today... Anyway, long day full of work and dissertation work so off we go.

Have a lovely morning, Juners... Here the weather is really cloudy and quite chilly.

(((waves!!!)))
