Thanks to Nutty for all the thread suggestions including this one. I hope no one minds but I picked this one in honour of the brilliant race commentary we had from Nuts and Frekkles the other night. Hopefully we will get some more.

LuLuBai · 18/03/2009 19:41

Yay - DD asleep by 7:30 for the 3rd night in a row. Is this an all time record? She has also done 10 hours for two nights running. I am trying not to let myself get ridiculously overexcited.

Boffin do we get to see your 'just stepped out of the salon' look?

Conker - my DD likes to put dirty things in the washing up to be cleaned but her sense of what ought to be washed up and what ought to be binned is not v. good - e.g. used tissues.

She's also being Very Helpful Indeed about nappies. She actually takes them off once she's pooed in them (and if I'm lucky puts them in the bin) but this means there is a toddler on the loose with a pooey bum rampaging around the house. Yucky yucky yucky.

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 18/03/2009 19:47

LuLu - yay for your dd sleeping

LuLuBai · 18/03/2009 19:51

Oh Smutty - it's fantastic. It really helps my sanity. And I am so much more productive during the day. Long term sleep deprivation is really like being drugged up (and not in a good way).

I really hope we are all blessed with lovely sleepy babies

How are you this evening?

AuldAlliance · 18/03/2009 19:57

I spent ages this afternoon chasing a tiny mouse round my kitchen and bathroom, in slapstick style, trying to lunge and catch it in a box.
God knows where it is now: it was hiding behind the loo, but that was hours ago.

DH has just scoffed one of the extra chocolate fairy cakes and pronounced them delicious, but says that the kids will all want the ones with multi-coloured hundreds & thousands on and not those with chocolate ones, so predicts that there will be tears and mayhem.

Baby has defintely moved, hopefully into a better position.
Am off to do the ironing, and then to consider what pillows, cushions, bolsters and other paraphernalia I can use to sleep on my wrong side without it actually causing pain.

Enjoy your evening, everyone...

Schulte · 18/03/2009 19:58

Well done for mini LuLu sleeping properly! Just in time too so you can catch up on sleep before LO arrives. I can't remember when I last had more than 7.5 hours in one go - probably Spring 2006. Is anyone else looking forward to the children leaving for university?

Now should I or should I not have a haircut before the birth? I am growing mine at the moment and had it cut in late January - can I just leave it to grow now until early June? Nutty? Also is there a reason why I shouldn't have my eyelashes tinted in pregnancy? Thought it might help with looking okay in post baby photos, I'll never have time to put mascara on.

conkertree · 18/03/2009 19:59

yes that does sound fantastic lulu - i dont think anything can prepare you for sleep deprivation if your lo is not a good sleeper, and the few times you get a few good nights in a row - its amazing.

ds has taken to putting things in the bin but nothing as useful as nappies - found the lid for one of his sippy cups a few days ago so not sure what else has gone in that i've missed. mobile phone was missing for a day and was getting worried but luckily turned up in his toy box.

damn it glasses just snapped across the bridge. damn damn damn. have contact lenses but need glasses for evenings at a minimum. guess thtas to go on the shopping list then. dont fancy sellotaping them up for more than a day or two.

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 18/03/2009 20:00

PuzzleRocks - DS used to have days where he ate loads and days where he ate almost nothing. The mantra for BLW is 'Food is for fun, until they're one' meaning that as long as they're still having their milk (bm or formula) then it doesn't matter how much solids they eat. Breast milk has more calories, per weight, than any solid food anyway.

The idea with weaning is that by the time they're 12 months, they should be on three meals a day, but some children take longer to get there than others, and BLW means they can go at their own pace.

DS didn't eat decent amounts of solid food consistently until he was about 10 months. No child will voluntarily starve themselves, apparently, although I did have days where I was in despair because he'd eaten one bite of carrot all day! Our saving grace (in terms of my sanity, not his health - he knew exactly what he was doing....) was breakfast - he loved Weetabix from early on so always ate that, and tonnes of yogurt.

We did it initially because DS point blank refused to be fed with a spoon, he would just seal up his mouth tight shut - apparently BLW is more intuitive for a bf baby because they're used to being in charge of how much they eat, iyswim. DS was certainly in charge.....

I have to say I can heartily recommend it, it was really fun although very messy, and DS is now a fantastic eater, no strange fads, he eats everything and is completely in charge of his portions - when he's full, he's full, and he just stops eating. And he's a happy, lively nearly 3 year old.

mumblemumhome4lunch · 18/03/2009 20:01

Evening all.

just spent over an hour catching up so wont have long to post.........have been in the garden all day again, just playing with the lil'ones, doing nothing very useful but just sooo delightful. Picnic lunch, painting outside, them digging in their bit of the veggie bed and getting all grubby and happy. It's been a good day

But does mean I've still got washing up from dinner last night, breakfast, lunch and their tea to get done before DH gets home and I have to find space (and pans !) to do some tea for us.

Really must get a dishwasher.

Schulte · 18/03/2009 20:04

We recently bought new shoes for DD and one of them went missing on the same day. When we asked her where it was she kept saying 'outside' and eventually I got DH to check the bin - it turned out she'd put the shoe in a paper bag that he used when clearing out the fireplace, and that he'd taken outside to the bin. I didn't think she was to blame though - surely he could have looked in the bag to make sure it was empty before he put the ash in?

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 18/03/2009 20:05

something fun re hair

for BB et al wha are still working

for puzzle

for sleepy children

Schulte · 18/03/2009 20:07

Mumble sounds like a lovely day!

mumblemumhome4lunch · 18/03/2009 20:09

Lulu - horray for sleeping DD ! Makes such a differenece when they sleep well. both for them and you. Mine are generally pretty good but when they have bad nights it just knocks me for 6.

Don't worry about coping with no2......it's v.daunting I'll admit and no easy task at times but you just get on with it when it happens. Unfortunately I've had a few encounters recently with parents of three telling me how much harder it is to go from 2 to3 than 1 to 2. My thought is it must be harder to do 1 to 2 because you have no idea how you are going to split yourself between them whereas this time round you've kind of at least partly worked that out, IYSWIM

conkertree · 18/03/2009 20:14

i've had lots of people tell me that 1 to 2 is the hardest cause you dont have the time to adjust like you did with one as the pther child needs attention, but the third just gets on with it cause they have to, and end up being quite laid back characters cause of it.

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 18/03/2009 20:16

Shulte - i personally would wait on the cut front if your'e trying to grow it as your hair will possibly go a bit mental post birth(no garuntees mind) and go for a growth spurt (good old hormones ) or it could stunt for a bit so see what it does then get it cut then. you dont really need a cut at the mo as you had it done so recently. Speak to your beauticion about the lash tinting before you get it done.

Mumble - sounds like a fantastic day

LuLuBai · 18/03/2009 20:21

Thank you all for being happy that DD is sleeping . I'm Very Happy Too! (Just hope it lasts)

Oh I've been wondering about eye-lash tint too. I looked so washed out after DD that I thought this time a lash tint might help (remembering that it's difficult enough to get time to have a quick shower with a newborn, let alone put make up on / take make up off).

Mumble - mudcakes in the sunshine sounds like a brilliant day!

I have heard that 1 to 2 is mindblowingly hard but that once you add in a 3rd they sort of slot in without too much fuss (any perhaps the older one(s) are getting to an age where they are helpful).

Maybe we need to ask Bronze as she has a houseful of little ones?

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 18/03/2009 20:24

stop scaring me please!! it will all be fine!! >>

PuzzleRocks · 18/03/2009 20:25

Nutty - Your beauty is beyond compare,
With flaming locks of auburn blonde hair,
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green.
Your smile is like a breath of spring;
Your voice is soft like summer rain,
And I cannot compete with you, Jolene.

Yep, that's me.

You could have your choice of men,

and that bit

Lulu - Wonderful news. How perfect would it be if our little monkeys cracked this sleeping lark in time for the new arrivals? Long may miniBai's new sleep pattern continue.

Auld - Congrats at perfect cakes. Lucky DS and chums.

FreshHell - Thanks for the response, that makes me feel more confident. I'm pretty sure that's the route we will take this time.

Schulte · 18/03/2009 20:27

Nutty thanks for advice! Saves me money too

LuLuBai · 18/03/2009 20:30

Oh I love Dolly!

Smutty you will be fine. Your DD is old enough to help a little bit and you know what to expect second time round.

LuLuBai · 18/03/2009 20:32

Fingers, toes etc all crossed Puzzle. Is your DD continuing her good run of sleeping through too?

I think one of the first things I need to sort out when we move back into our house is black out blinds - she is waking at 5:30 every morning and I think dawn has something to do with that.

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 18/03/2009 20:33

9-5 is one of my all time fave tunes!! (the film is hilarious too ) garunteed to perk me up anytime of day

Puzzle

Schulte - no problemo!

LuLuBai · 18/03/2009 20:35

Do you know I've never seen that film. Or Steel Magnolias for that matter.

Have a lot of Dolly albums and have seen her live tho. DH is also the proud owner of a pink rhinestone souvenir stetson from Dollywood. Lucky boy!

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 18/03/2009 20:37

oooohhh steel magnolias is supposed to be fab (must watch it soon, i keep meaning to) that and beaches.

PuzzleRocks · 18/03/2009 20:37

Lulu - She had three good nights straight through and then only woke once last night. The good nights are slowly becoming more frequent than the bad ones it would seem. I hope I haven't jinxed myself saying that.
