agree Tink it was a bit disappointing. I bought myself a lovely coat though, half price!. Got a little outfit for Dd2 and a jog pants/jacket for Dd1. There was absolutely nothing for the boys.

We've all now succumbed to this horrid cold, except the baby.

Lovely to have an update Star, thank you. You've shown such amazing strength

Good news Cosmo re: 9th being the final date for you. I agree with you that knowing that you def won't go past a certain date helps to manage the long last few days

Hope everyone is well, off to bed now.

I am sorry I am so rubbish at posting at the moment. I seem to be falling asleep at every opportunity - can't understand why I'm so so tired - I wasn't too bad in my 1st trimester!

Hope you soon have Charlotte home, Star, it must be so hard knowing DS is at home. Sounds like he's being a little star (no pun intended!). Hopefully you can be together as a family really soon.

Cosmo - have everything crossed for you to go into labour soon. Really feel for you. At least you know it won't be too long now.

Tink - where can I get some nice bits and pices for DD's new "big girl's" bedroom? Can't afford to spend loads, but want to treat her to some new things.

Hi to everyone else.

kayzr · 29/03/2009 12:37

Afternoon(I did type morning)

DS2 has stopped sleeping through. It is a little bit annoying when he slept through every night last week.

Star, Hope you get to bring Charlotte home soon. Must be hard to be away from DS.

STT, If you are lurking I hope you are all right. I'll be thinking of you on Tuesday, hope you have a fabulous scan.

We're of to Mum's this afternoon. Hope you all have good Sundays.

lardybump · 29/03/2009 13:01

Afternoon all. Ladies when are you doing your York meet up? Will it be a weekend? I am still working on coming!!! Really want to meet you all! DS is better but still has a stinking cold, he cant sleep lying flat so has been sleeping on me all night so I am knackered....... Still sickness is better (not stopped totally)!!! Feeling much more possitive at the moment.

Star hope you get all your family home really soon.....

Diege · 30/03/2009 08:06

Morning! Just a quick post from work before I go to get breakfast!
Had a nice time in wales, although not expecially restful. My parents aren't the sort to offer to give me a lie-in!
Hope everyone is well and happy on the wagon - maybe we'll get another baby this week!
LB: not sure progress of York meet-up, as we were struggling to get a motnth to suit all. Not sure if we're waiting unntil (most) babies have been born, or going ahead with both??? I'm love to meet-up there May/early June,(and then early autumn-ish for mega national meet-up) but will wait to see what the general consensus is .
Right, off to get a delicious microwave croissant...

Cosmogirl · 30/03/2009 08:39

Morning all,

No Cosmo baby still..due date tomorrow and five guesses left on the syndicate.

Need to call mw today and see about getting sweep booked for Fri and double-check about induction. Hopefully having those dates set will coax the baby out!

Glad you had a good weekend Diege.
Good for luck scan tomo STT.

kayzr · 30/03/2009 08:55

Morning,

Cosmo, I do hope Baby Cosmo puts in an appearance soon.

RE: York meet I can do anytime so I'm not fussed. You just sort out a time and place and I will be there.

Ds2 slept all night last night so I am very happy. But DH is being lazy and is still in bed. I bloody hope he gets a job soon, as much as I love him, he can be a bit annoying all day everyday.

lardybump · 30/03/2009 09:19

Morning all. DS has had another bad night, and we have had no sleep... He has been caughing and crying all night. He can not breath through his nose at all so is not feeding well and is being very sick (I think this is because of mucas)!!!! I would kill for just a couple of hours sleep!!!!

I just want him to be well, so fed up of him being ill...

Right must go as HV is here today but I will be back on later!!

Cosmogirl · 30/03/2009 09:30

Morning Kayz - Dylan arrived on his due date didn't he? What were your labour signs? Did you start the day before on on the day?

Morning LB - sorry to hear you're still having a rough time of it. Hope the HV can help.

SesIsCountingdowntheweeks · 30/03/2009 09:37

Morning all!

Kay - yay for DS2 sleeping through again. When is your DH's interview? Hope he's out of bed now...

LB - you can get small sterile bottles of saline nasal drops for about £1.50 that can be used from birth for blocked noses. You put one or two drops in each nostril before feeds and at night. May help?

Cosmo - Glad you've got an end in sight but hope something happens for you sooner than that. (No pressure but I've got today on the syndicate!)

Diege - glad you had a good weekend.

Re: meet up. Please don't delay on my account. We can always do another one later in the year.

I'm still getting loads of fanjo movements so think baby is still engaged. Also feel like I have a v full belly - and not with food!

Best thing though is that this is my last week before ML starts!!!

kayzr · 30/03/2009 09:38

I had a show that morning and then contractions started and he was born at 10 to 7 in the evening. I had been rubbing a mixture of baby oil and clary sage into my bump as it is meant to help and sitting on my ball.

With Freddie I started having contractions the day after his due date and he was born the next day.

I really hope Baby Cosmo comes soon.

Cosmogirl · 30/03/2009 09:44

Kayz - thanks for that....oh would be great if it started today or tomorrow! Fingers crossed.

Ses - I will have words...will see what I can do.

After two days of baby being super active, seems very usually quiet this morning, so maybe that could mean something too....

God, I am so sick of watching these baby shows now! Every gets a baby at the end except me

Cosmogirl · 30/03/2009 09:45

Ses - yey for mat leave next week!!

kayzr · 30/03/2009 09:51

Cross Posts Ses,

Not sure about when the interview is. They said they are waiting for all the application forms to come in. He has applied for 2 jobs so hopefully he will get one. He is out of bed now!!

SesIsCountingdowntheweeks · 30/03/2009 09:54

I can't wait, Cosmo!

I tend to wake up feeling ok but then as soon as I try and do anythingt too energetic, I just get knackered and achy. How on earth I'll cope with labour I have no idea!!

I'll try and send over some good and timely labour vibes for you.

tinkhas2scrummygirls · 30/03/2009 10:20

morning

dd1 @nursery
bracken wriggling on my knee

lastboxoftampons · 30/03/2009 11:17

Morning everyone!

Cosmo, sending you lots and lots of {{{{{{{labour vibes}}}}}} let's get that baby out! Are you doing the curry/sex/walking thing? I'm still sticking with Thursday! Either way, not long now, so hang in there!!

Kay - yay for sleeping through again! I hope it sticks. I think the weekend was a minor setback.

LB - so sorry DS is not feeling well. Would a sleep positioner/wedge thing help to keep him slightly upright? Or even pitching his cot at a slight angle? Hoping you all get some relief

Astarte - sorry you're all sick! Fingers crossed the baby stays well!

Tink - too bad the Next sale wasn't really worth it. In a way having a boy is really helping to curb my spending! We were in Sainsburys yesterday and had a quick peek at the baby clothes and there were a few adorable things for girls, but nothing worth buying for boys! I did buy a few things from Blooming Marvelous which arrived on Saturday though, which are really very sweet.

Glask - I agree that Ruby's little weight gain is down to how small she is to begin with. Friends of ours had a premature baby and her weight gain was slow at the beginning as well. I'm sure it will pick up soon. And good luck with the breastfeeding consultant position - sounds great!

Ses - BAH to your friend! I'm sure everyone has different feelings about what motherhood is like. I think the problem is our expectations - it's something you see other people do every day, but not something you could possibly fathom until you're in the thick of it. I'm sure you'll get along fine when little Ses is here!

Star - Glad to hear that DD may be coming home soon. And your DS what a sweetie. Fingers crossed that you're all under one roof soon!

I had a dream last night about breastfeeding. I kept trying, but the baby, who could talk for some reason told me it didn't like breast milk and much preferred formula, so I expressed some breast milk into a bottle when it wasn't looking and gave it that instead. I tricked my unborn child!!!! DH and I were trying out the name we think we're going to use this weekend. I told him whenever I see something that a naughty little boy had probably done, I think in my head "Oh, Tristan!" and then he started in with "Oy, TRISTAN!!" Was fun! We're trying to come up with other options, but we always seem to come back to the one name, so I think that's going to be it!

idreamofbeanie · 30/03/2009 15:07

Hi all, I haven't had time for a read through yet but I hope everyone had a nice weekend. I had a lovely time at the spa and a very nice dinner with some friends afterwards.

Okay, question for all you experienced pram shoppers. DP and I are trying to get an idea of how much money we want to put aside for our big baby purchases and obviously one of the biggest expenses will be the pram. I have started looking at prams to get a rough idea of how much our top choices will cost but am feeling a bit lost already. I guess a pram is quite a personal choice (some people say you 'must' have a travel system, others say its a waste of money; some love 3 wheels others love 4) but with the following info which pram/type of pram would you recommend or what kinds of things should I be looking for?

  • We will be living in a house (so no stairs to front door) and space isn't really a problem
  • I have a little Polo so the boot isn't massive
  • I usually walk or drive and haven't used a bus since moving to York although I can't say I never will.
  • We spend a lot of our spare time out walking mostly on lanes, fields, hills, parks, beaches etc rather than pavements. We will invest in a sling/baby carrier but it would be good to have a pram that can handle a bit of 'off-roading' without falling to bits or shaking the poor baby all over the place.
  • The cheaper the better (as always) and I'm not that bothered about having a 'funky' pram
  • Will be used from newborn
  • I am average height but DP is a few inches over 6 foot and has an irrational hatred of prams with 2 handles rather than a solid handle right across IYKWIM. I'm sure its not a dealbreaker if we loved the pram otherwise but its the main reason he dislikes SILs pilko and thinks it is a pain to push.
  • This is going to be a winter baby - are all prams fairly cosy and sheltered?

Right, off to read through the weekends posts. Thanks in advance for any advice!

kayzr · 30/03/2009 15:26

Ooooooh IDOB I love pram shopping!!!

For off-roading a 3 wheeler is best. They are fabulous at off-roading.

I like these:

Mychoice but as it is from Mothercare everything is seperate. It comes with the carrycot but the seat is seperate(boo mothercare). Baby IDOB can face you or face outwards. If you get the Maxi-Cosi car seat you can use it on the pushchair.

Tundra I love this and I think I would buy it if I needed one. The only problem is that baby IDOB can't face you.(boo M&P)

Also Jane Slalom I am not sure on this, it is a bit expensive but I know a few people with it and they love it. It comes with a car seat.

Or just get a Phil and Teds, it is brilliant off road and if you have another baby IDOB you are sorted

Have you been to Paul Srride? It is brilliant, it's at Monks Cross.

Hope it helps.

kayzr · 30/03/2009 15:27

That is meant to say Paul Stride.

Astarte · 30/03/2009 15:49

You'll have to try them out I'm afraid. Go to the nearest Nevercare branch and have a good push about.

For off road you'll want air-filled tyres, which will cushion the baby's ride.
Most pushchairs are suitable for newborn now tbh.

Travel systems are for city living and IMHO are the most useless pieces of baby-kit next to baby baths and changing units.

If you plan to have another child within 2 years then the P&T is a very good investment as you'll only need the doubles kit to set you up for the next one too.
If you plan to have a long gap, or only one, then buy something with a good resale value, just in case you want a new buggy next time around.

I totally understand your DH's hatred of 2 handles as we too have this

Make sure you can fold the thing! The one and only gripe I have with the P&T is I don't find it easy to fold. Granted I have only had to fold it 3 times but each time I forget how to do it and feel like kicking the feckin' thing into the bushes rather than figure it out.

3 or 4 wheels is just personal preference I think. Most off roaders are 3 wheels.

Winter won't matter as most buggies come with some form of cosytoes.

kayzr · 30/03/2009 16:11

LBOT I have sent you a message on Facebook. You silly billy you!!!!

lastboxoftampons · 30/03/2009 16:32

Aw, thanks, Kay That's it, I'm totally through with the Baby Names board!!!!

PSA everyone - I'm not sure if it's every shop, but at lunch time I was in our local Superdrug and they had packs of Pampers wipes, 72 count, for 99p. I thought that sounded a good deal - and I bought two I'm not even due until JULY! I hope they don't dry out before then!!! Anyway, worth a look in your local one!

IDOB We're just starting to think about prams as well - although I'm pretty much after everything opposite you are because we're in London! It seems like there are many more options if space is not an issue and you dont' mind having extra pieces - ie carrycot, etc. Bugaboo immediately springs to mind based on your description, but it's obviously expensive and I know people have various luck about getting it into their boot! You might want to check out the Britax Vigour, though - comes in 3 or 4 wheels and seems a good combination of rugged and suburban friendly. Be interested to know how you make out! Good luck! Think we're going to Croydon Easter weekend to have a look around...
