Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

fikelly I managed to keep DS up until 6pm tonight, as he didn't have his afternoon nap. I'm hoping (praying!) that this will sort out his night time sleeping. I didn't force him into not having his nap, but I kept on my Mama Mia CD quite loud in the car, and kept chatting to him on the way back from pre-school. He looked like he was flagging at 4.30pm so I threw him into the bath, gave him a quick supper and then cuddled up on the sofa for a breastfeed. Luckily, he stayed awake until 6pm so I'm hoping this should sort it.

Fingers crossed!

pulapula · 09/03/2009 18:50

Oh and Andrina, another advantage of a moses basket over a travel cot (unless its one with the baby attachment over the top) is when your LO has fallen asleep on you, its a lot easier to transfer them without waking them. with a travel cot, its a long way down (which could also be tricky if you end up having a csection) and very difficult to do without jolting your LO awake.

llareggub · 09/03/2009 18:58

I wouldn't have been able to bend over into a travel cot for about 3/4 weeks after my c-section, so a travel cot would have been a nightmare for me. Our carry cot was very similar to a moses basket, so did the job very well for us.

A friend of mine has a massive baby who grew out of the moses basket very quickly!

FiKelly · 09/03/2009 19:08

llareggub ds has just gone to sleep and he managed all day without napping (his usual) the stair gate is in place so lets see what happens tomorrow am.. fingers crossed.

we bought a crib for ds as i felt moses basket wasn't worth the money esp if baby is on the large size.. we also used our bugaboo pram carry cot rather than leaving ds in his car seat for prolonged periods.

MrsExton I'm in EK

pulapula I asked her if it was low and she said, "It's okay for you" so I don't quite know what that means!

I forgot to mention, my baby has finally moved from transverse to a classic breech so hopefully she'll pull the finger out soon and turn cephalic. That would be particularly nice if she'd do it before my next appointment when I order my homebirth kit!!

Evening all!

Rather excitingly, I ordered my new car this afternoon - a VW Touran. I can't help feeling that they look a bit 'mumsy' so I went for Cherry Red and tinted glass to try and make it look sexier! It will be delivered in early May, just after my c-section so I won't get to drive it for weeks. Can't wait though.

Febes · 09/03/2009 19:59

Evening all. I used a moses basket for DD until she was 4 months and then put it in the cot to make transition to cot easier. I found carrying moses basket downstairs during day especially in the first month when they sleep loads.
I see you guys are buying pressies for other DCs from the LOs. What should I get for DD who will only be 17months? What are you getting your DD detsy?

frazzledoldbag · 09/03/2009 19:59

I have discovered a new use for my DD's travel cot which is currently set up in the spare room (to be babys room soon). It is now where I fling all things baby as I buy / find them - it now contains the impressive list of items as follows:
1 pack of nipple shields
1 pack of breast nurse (heating and cooling gel pads)
1 tube of Lansinoh cream
My old Avent breast pump
That's it. Perhaps I should make a bit of a better list of items required for this baby!
(I am very impressed by the Amby hammock though - if I knew how to post a pic of it I would and DD1 is desperate to get in for a bounce as she thinks it looks so cosy). I've told her on no account can she get in - she weighs about 5 stone! Just hope the baby likes it as much as we do.
(DH unsurprisingly was unimpressed and raised an eyebrow without commenting. I bet he was thinking 'oh bloody hell, so there is actually going to be a baby soon....most of the time I think the poor man is in denial. Well, all that holiday shagging was his idea).

frazzledoldbag · 09/03/2009 20:01

oooh emmalina how exciting about your new car. I love getting a new car, am very jealous

EmmalinaC · 09/03/2009 20:03

febes we're going to wait and see what DDs favourite thing is nearer the time. We're also going to take DD to ELC to let her choose something for the baby. She is concerned about having to share her toys and keeps suggesting things the LO might like - baby toys not 'big girl' toys!

Febes · 09/03/2009 20:05

There's a NCT sale at the end of march so I might go along and see if I can pick up some new toys that I can whip out at opportune moments.

FiKelly · 09/03/2009 20:15

my pal here in weston who was due last wed with her no 2 has had a rough time with her blood pressure this last wk.. she has till wed to pop naturally or they're inducing her.. just heard her waters have gone YAY! keeping everything crossed she progresses normally

This thread really is moving at an incredible speed. I've finally managed to catch up with it all!

spangle (I think it was anyway) what your friend has is 'diastasis' of the abdominal muscles. Your stomach muscles are 2 bands and they separate when your uterus grows, if women do sit ups and stomach excercises that gap can become too big and then physio might be needed to close it again. If your bump goes up in a peak when you sit up from lying, than that's a sign that your abdominal muscles have weakened and that you might have a big gap too. Definitely good advise to go and sit up by pushing yourself up with your hands. I do that too.

re Matrasses: The advise is that your can re-use between siblings providing it's a wipe clean waterproof matress that doesn't have any visible damage. Our matress was a very good quality waterproof sprung one, so I'm re-using it.

Andrina: I've always used the pram (i.e. carry cot) in the house. I found it useful to wheel my dcs around to be in whichever room I was with me. OK the wheels did get a little dirty sometimes, but I wiped that off in the hallway. A travel cot wouldn't have fitted into our living room + like the others said: it's a long way down! I also found that my lo's prefered a smaller, more enclosed space to sleep as newborns, so before we had our (free!) crib in the bedroom, we used the carry cot in the cot or they wouldn't settle. Whatever you do, you will find you need a small bed where lo can sleep during the day.

Oh also I just want to warn people about carrying moses baskets. Apparently there are a lot of accidents when people carry babies in their moses baskets, because the handles aren't always strong enough and break. I can't remember where I read it (possibly midwives magazine), but the manufacturers apparently said that the handles meant to be decorative rather than functional.

fi I was thinking that in the current climate you should be able to negotiate with Persimmon. If they're having trouble selling houses, then I'm sure they'd be more likely to drop their price. It's worth a try! Good luck with your ds tonight.

I had a good play with the Skate today and I'm contemplating whether to buy a carry cot mattress for the pram. It's a seat unit that converts in a carry cot, although it's padded, I think a mattress would make it a bit more comfortable and softer to sleep in. Otherwise I'm very happy with it. It steers so easily and seems quite easy to open and fold. Can't wait to put a real baby in it!

I'm seeing the physio again tomorrow. My SPD seems to have go so much worse over the last few weeks. I'm shuffling like an old lady! It's even affecting my ability to go on MN, because not having a lap top, I need to walk to the computer in the corner of the living room and that's just too much effort and too uncomfortable a lot of the time, despite being so close I hope she'll be able to do something for me...

Belgianchocolates · 09/03/2009 20:25

Oh pula your mw wouldn't have been surprised at your low BP at 28 weeks, because that's the stage where it's normal for your BP to be lower. Low BP's don't tend to worry mws anyway, it's the high ones that scare us!

re Students: sometimes having a student is a good thing. Especially if it's a 2nd or 3rd year one, because often they're assigned someone and give 1-1 care, while her mentor might run inbetween a few other women. I know that's how it was when I was a student and often women were grateful for that.

Belgianchocolates · 09/03/2009 20:29

Hmm, I've forgotten another other thing:

Frazzled Your DH and mine sound the same. I'm pretty sure he's in denial too. I also think my dh is scared of my bump. When I'm not pregnant he always strokes my belly in bed before going off to sleep, but since I've been pregnant he's not been near my belly. I've told him that I think he's scared of my bump, but he says that's not true. Still, I don't believ him...

llareggub · 09/03/2009 20:30

Belgian the good news for me is that I don't think I have SPD! In the last week or so my back pain has gone and that horrid pain in my pelvis has gone. I'm actually feeling quite energetic and able to move a lot. I don't need paracetamol either. I wonder what it was?

Belgianchocolates · 09/03/2009 20:32

llare that sounds a bit odd, but good for you! Maybe it's the way baby was lying?

llareggub · 09/03/2009 20:35

Could be. We were in IKEA a week or so ago, and I had a really odd feeling, baby moved A LOT and I felt really dizzy. Perhaps he did a somersault! It is odd because by 32 weeks in my last pregnancy I could barely walk, and was one of the reasons why I decided to leave work so early.

Hey, I'm not complaining! I do get the odd twinge, but I can even run after my son now, after not being able to for ages.

FiKelly · 09/03/2009 20:36

llareggub same thing happened with my back pain.. i think it was the baby in an awkward pos for a while..

OP posts:
Belgianchocolates · 09/03/2009 20:40

I just keep having this feeling that something is out of line and if only some one could give it a tweak I'd feel much better. Mabye your baby moving that day in Ikea gave you that tweak and clicked your pelvis back together like it should be!

belgian about your pgd that's rotten.

dh is going to haggle with persimmon tomorrow as i'm too emotional about it to cope.. plus ds never keeps still long enough to let me concentrate on a conversation like that. heading off to bed soonish.. been a very tiring and emotional day all in all..

OP posts:
pulapula · 09/03/2009 20:46

Thanks for the reassurance Belgianchocs- i started googling low blood pressure and guess it would explain why i can't stand up (on the spot) for more than 5 mins without feeling

Belgianchocolates · 09/03/2009 20:47

fi I can imagine that your day has been hard. The mixed news about your house and a build up of lack of sleep thanks to ds. Have an early night and hopefully tomorrow will be better. Success with the house
