Jennster thanks for that. Perhaps rather naughtily, I have become bit of a tea drinker during this pregnancy, and drink rather a lot of it. I must say I'm partial to the odd coffee, too. I'll cut right down and see if that helps. I wish I could say I need to cut down on chocolate too, but I haven't had any for months and months....

Scan tomorrow, I'm quite excited! I'm also having the heart monitor thing fitted and have an appointment with the consultant, so I'm hoping for reassurance and good news!

llareggub · 17/03/2009 21:14

looby have they told you to take anything along with you to eat after the GTT? I felt pretty awful after mine and it is standard advice here to advise participants to take along some sort of snack for afterwards. Hope it goes well.

detsy · 17/03/2009 21:15

Hi peeps

Sorry some littles are poorly - its so horrible when they are ill.

Can't stay long as need to sort out my wardrobe and unload a heap of goodies from car - spent a fortune, on goodness knows what as we had most things!

POsted new bump pics if anyone is interested

Sleep tight all
x

LoobyLou36 · 17/03/2009 21:21

jael hope your dd feels better soon.

jennster I mentioned fundal earlier. I don't really understand what the centile thing means I seem to be measuring at the top end of normal according to the MW I measure 33cm at 30wks and 90th centile.

laregub no one told me to take food to eat after test. They did give me a much photocopied sheet which said I could go and get a drink and toast in the maternity canteen afterwards if I wanted to - like I'm going to pay those prices. Think I'll take a snack.

LoobyLou36 · 17/03/2009 21:31

sorry that should be 33cm at 33wks

Jennster · 17/03/2009 22:01

looby I'm probably going to explain this wrong, but, your centile chart is individualised to you. Your height and weight. The 3 lines on mine are 90th 50th and 10th centiles. I think that of 100 women with the same details as you are on the 90th centile, then 10 people are likely to have heavier babies, and 89 are likely to have lighter babies. Or is that have longer or shorter fundal heights which then correlate to different birth weights? I'm sure Sausage or Belgian will put us straight.

LoobyLou36 · 17/03/2009 22:16

oh right - thanks jennster

right - time for bed I think, otherwise I'll want a snack soon

good luck for tommorrow lare

pulapula · 17/03/2009 22:18

Jennster- I will have a go at explaining it too (and i am a statistician so will be if i'm wrong lol). If you are on the 90th centile, then only 10 in every 100 pg women at your stage of pg will measure bigger than you, and therefore most will measure smaller. Therefore the 50th centile is the "average". Not sure without seeing your chart whether it takes account of your personal height and weight has been taken into account in your chart - mine is just a standard chart?

Once babies are born, then midwives/health visitors will plot your babies weight (and sometimes length, head circumference etc) on similar charts, so again, a baby measuring on the 50th centile will be average for its age, and low centiles indicate smaller than average and vice versa. Hope that makes sense.

Tummum · 17/03/2009 22:26

Evening everyone. Have been lurking but not much to say / add at the mo.

Jael my DD2 had gastro-e earlier this year. My top tip is jelly seemed to work as a good food to keep down because it had water and sugar and was easy to swallow. It did take her about 6 days to get better (i.e. not throw up everything including water) and we ended up in children's ward being 'monitored' (aka sat in a waiting room) for 7 hours until I got fed up and discharged her. It was amazing how quickly she got better once she got it out of her system though. Hope you get to this point very soon.

PS Am def. not posting any pictures of my bump.... I am the size of an airship compared to most others. I suppose my last baby was 9lb10 so this LO isn't going to be small either...

pulapula · 17/03/2009 23:08

detsy- lovely bump- have you got a tan or is it just the light?!

LoobyLou36 · 18/03/2009 07:16

Morning all...
pulapula re: growth chart. I assume my chart takes into account my height/weight as it is printed at the top next to me name. So 90th centile is a sign of a larger LO then?

at work at the mo - off to hospital for my GTT at 8:45

euromum · 18/03/2009 09:17

Morning everyone,

Jael I hope your dd gets better soon, the gastro bug sounds really horrible.

And a very happy birthday and happy anniversary to everyone - afraid there's so much to catch up on, I've lost track a bit of who's who but I hope you all had a lovely day!

Re bedwetting and potty training - no wisdom I'm afraid, it's all ahead of me! Dd will be 20 months when ds arrives and I was thinking of just waiting until a couple of months afterwards. There's no real rush, is there? I hope she'll be out of nappies during the day by 2.5yrs but I'm not going to worry about it.

Well I'm with jennster this morning in wondering how I'm going to cope with the few remaining weeks at work - not helped by the fact that we don't know how many because HR are being so disorganised about confirming when my replacement will actually arrive! We asked for her from 1 April but it'll probably be later, but I really hope not. Not due till 30 May but I have loads of holiday to use up that I can't carry over to next year and I am SO fed up and tired, I would love to just stop working in a couple of weeks. We're also renovating our house and currently staying with my FIL so it'd be great to have time to clean/wash everything at ease before moving back, instead of doing it all in my last 3 weeks. I am so jealous of all those who have been nesting and shopping! Would love to be able to sort out my nice new kitchen & living room and then spend some decent time with dd.

Anyway, back to work for now, a lovely great big pile of filing is calling me...!

Have a nice day all.

Momino · 18/03/2009 09:27

morning all. hope everyone (esp little ones -Jael's dd) is feeling better.

had a lovely morning but mainly because i was relaxed knowing DDs going to nursery. yesterday was a nightmare as i was on such a short fuse and yelled at dd's all day for whinging/crying/not listening, etc. how will i have patience for a 3rd? put more doubts in my mind but....

today's a different day. I've just a week and a half to work so trying to get a lot done today and tomorrow whilst girls at nursery.

speak later.

sophietom · 18/03/2009 10:31

hello everyone
Jael hope your daughter is feeling better now
Divedaisy and Blottedcopybook Thanks for the links to nappy websites; I've discovered that bumgenius and 'pop-in' nappies have adjustable fit and can be worn from birth onwards (without having to buy different sizes) so I may give them a whirl

llareggub · 18/03/2009 11:49

Hello everyone, I'm back from a mammoth session at the hospital, which started with the fitting of my heart monitor, then a scan, then a consultant appointment. Baby is well and truly sticking to the 50th centile, and we had a fantastic photo of his profile. He looks just like DS! Positively, my consultant is happy to recommend a VBAC, and I think I am going to go for that instead of the c-section that has been the plan all the way through. They are happy that baby isn't too big and that my sugars are well controlled. It is so nice to have some positive news after the last few days.

DH is off today so we are going to make the most of a sunny day and go out for some lunch. Have a good day everyone!

Jael · 18/03/2009 12:03

Afternoon everyone. DD seems more herself today, she's managed to keep a whole crumpet down so far, not sure what to try her for lunch, don't want to be too optimistic.

llare Congrats on the news of being able to have your VBAC. I wish I was as brave, I'm heading for another over 9lb's though, so I don't really have a choice.

On the meet up, I saw you were talking about the first Saturday in April. I can't do that Saturday unsurprisingly, it's the only day I can't do lol MIL has finally agreed to come and visit DD before LO is born, and she's picked that Saturday of all days. I'm free every single week day, apart from 8th April, as that's my consultant day, and every other Saturday and Sunday, if it's not finalised. If it is then nvm

I wondered, if you've sent off for the health in pregnancy grant, and your baby comes before the 6th April which is the cut off point, do you not get the money then, even though your baby was due like May? XX

Polony · 18/03/2009 12:05

llareggub thats fantastic news.

LoobyLou36 · 18/03/2009 13:24

llareggub great news - have a lovely day

I too am back from the hospital. That glucose stuff is vile - nearly vomitted. I get the results tommorrow.

jael hope ur LO is on the mend

Polony · 18/03/2009 13:30

Is anybody else worried about how they will dry nappies inside in summer without a dryer or the radiators on? This is really bothering me. When I get the nappies I'll have a trial run to see how hard it is to get them dry without having the radiators, but I fear that we'll end up with sour smelling nappies that we can't dry properly and all our other washing will never get done. I decided to get the flat nappies to make it a bit easier to dry them but its really been bugging me. Would love to have a clothes line but even if we could put one in I can't get down the back stairs on my own (its ground level entry but we live on a hill so the yard is down a flight) let alone with a child to hang it out/ bring it in.

pulapula · 18/03/2009 13:38

LoobyLou - not sure whether it indicates the likelihood of having a bigger baby or just that you have a bigger bump...guess they'd have to scan you to see!

I've always measured smaller than average but had bigger than average babies so not sure a big bump always means a bigger baby.

I will be having a private scan on Sunday where they will measure LO. My bump was below average when last measured (but has seen some growth lately) so will be interesting to see how big this LO is (although i'm not concerned about position or size as i'm having a planned cs).

euromum · 18/03/2009 14:07

Polony I was amazed to find out how quickly washable nappies dry - we have cotton ones by Popolini, but I think most brands are made to dry quickly & easily. We didn't have outdoor space for a washing line and just hung them on one of those folding frames, which also holds at least one other load of washing at the same time so we didn't get too much of a backlog. They're dry within a few hours and only occasionally on very humid days has it been a problem, in fact that's been an issue more in winter when it's rainy, but even then if your heating is on you're fine. The drawback is that if you're in a smallish space, the drying frame thing takes up quite a lot of room. We've now moved from a flat to a house so at least that problem is out of the way! On the other hand, we have gained the issue of stairs + toddler + small baby...

Blottedcopybook · 18/03/2009 14:12

Polony That was my main reason for buying the kiwi quick flip nappies - they fold out almost flat and dry really quickly I do most of my drying on a big folding drying rack and I have a family of five just now, nappies take a tad longer but if you have a big enough stash you'll be fine.

SpangleMaker · 18/03/2009 14:31

Hi all, just a quick message as I'm supposed to be working. I have to get a report drafted this week & our project finished by my last day (27th) which is proving to be tough. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending how you look at it ) my ability to give a stuff is evaporating even faster. What I terrible employee I am

llareggub good news on your scan. Hope the heart monitor results come back ok. I'm sure I read that palpitations are not uncommon in pregnancy due to the extra load on the heart, but it's sensible to have it looked into.

euromum that's annoying about your employer. Can't you leave when you planned anyway, or maybe have a couple of weeks off then go back when your replacement turns up? I assume they have to find some cover when you're on leave normally? If it's impossible they should pay you for your lost leave since it's not your fault you can't take it.

jael glad your dd is a little better.

Re the meet up I can't do Saturday 4th either. I don't have many other commitments, just a MW appt on the 7th really. The NCT tutor is 'making' us set up coffee mornings as a group though the majority of them are due early - mid April so I can see the numbers could well dwindle!

llareggub · 18/03/2009 15:24

spangle your NCT woman is very sensible! I still meet up with my NCT group and I couldn't have survived the last 2 and a half years without them! Considering that we were complete strangers in 2006 when we met, I'd regard some of them as my best friends. We've been through so much together.

jael I'm glad your DD is feeling better.

I'm going to put my feet up now and have a nice cup of tea. Isn't it a lovely day?

SweetBROODY · 18/03/2009 15:36

Happy birthday to the birthday Mums!

MsG don?t forget you can get your Gaviscon on prescription... you don?t have to buy it!

chocolatebunnies Weird about carvings I have an urge to eat cardamom and drink cold coffee! Neither I think are good for me :S rubbish hospital treatment! I know what you mean though there seem very few people in the profession who actually care about people!

sausagenmash on I?m with you on the Gaviscon and milk! We?ve gone from a family that hardly got through a pint a week to drinking 6- 10 pints a week between me and hubby! That?s so bad isn?t it!

I missed the London meet I guess you ladies forgot to email me!

Momino I know that feeling it?s so hard to concentrate on anything but bump! Work seems like a waste of time? I?ve spent the day looking at the bump change shape! It?s so, so strange... never expected it to look like that!

Quite exciting though? different from feeling it!

llareggub are you alright love? Great news I was worried about you for a while there?
