Emergency brake

frazzledoldbag · 14/03/2009 22:31

oh, actually I did that with DD2's car seat when I was seriously sleep deprived once or twice. I clicked it into the base bit then forgot to attach the seat belt round it. It never fell off but I remember feeling sick when I realised what I'd done and had to pull over to sort it out

pula my brother and I used to beg to be allowed to sit in the boot of our car. Such fun (but probably hugely dangerous).

Belgianchocolates · 14/03/2009 22:32

Anyway. Bedtime now or it'll be midnight again. Good night everyone!

pulapula · 14/03/2009 22:32

I'm sat here scoffing sour teddy bears (they are the natural confectionary co though if that makes them more healthy ). Anyway, i now have sore teeth and gums as a result

DH is out at his brother's stag do tonight so not looking forward to him rolling in smelling of beer and snoring. Might have to get to bed soon so i can be in a deep sleep when he gets home...

frazzledoldbag · 14/03/2009 22:33

Estate car not saloon obviously!
although I did once spend a bit of time in the boot of a car with a lad called Keith [but that's a whole different story and I wasn't a child then] - think drunken student days.
Better go to bed before I embarrass myself any further x

frazzledoldbag · 14/03/2009 22:35

oooh pula I've got some of those sour teddy bears in my handbag. Thanks for the reminder. Yummmy.
Smelly drunk men aren't good news for pg ladies IMO.
[expecting mine home iminently - may also go hide in bed to avoid drunken (boring) chat]
Night x

Belgianchocolates · 14/03/2009 22:37

pula the natural confectionary co make lovely sour teddy bears. I've been known to eat a whole pack on my own!
I've also traveled in the footwell the front passenger seat and my parents had a big van with no seats in the back, so my brother and I used to run around in the back or just sit on the floor whenever we went anywhere
frazzled lol at your drunken student day escapades in car boots
Now I'm really logging of and going to bed. Honestly...

Polony · 14/03/2009 23:22

I remember riding in the tray of my housemates ute when I was 21, just before doing that was outlawed in Australia. I was sad that it was eventually banned (that was about the same time as the smoking ban came in in pubs etc - clearly we had our priorities right....) but surprised it was allowed as long as it was, long after seatbelts and helmets (for pushbikes) had become mandatory.

Thanks everyone for the car seat advice . Belgian I do hope you get some success with the osteopathy - the thought of spd continuing into babyhood must be daunting. i guess the only reason we have not to have a seat that fits the pram is simply cost - it would be cheaper to have one that didn't go with our pram kit, but I suspect it would be false economy anyway. And car seats are probably not the place to look for short cuts financially!

Was it Sweetbroody - or Looby? - who said you'd eaten too many bananas to prevent cramp and ended up constipated? The other half of our miracle cramps food conversation was dried apricots - full of all kinds of things good for pg, including potassium, and will do the opposite of the bananas re constipation. I've been a bit addicted to dried mango as well, probably a sugar thing at a guess, but wow they keep you regular! I dunno though. These things are probably an inevitable part of being pregnant to some extent. Don't forget to stretch your legs before bed. If you don't already.

sausagenmash · 15/03/2009 11:17

Hehe - pula - I remember me and 2 friends practically camping on a family trip down to Calais in the boot of their Mum's volvo estate - God it was great fun!

polony - i've got one of those travel systems things - not that its arrived yet, but still.

Got home yesterday around 5pm after a DAY in town. I was (and still am) knackered. If anyone EVER thinks its a great idea to get the 176 bus from south London all the way to Elephant and Castle, DON'T! It took over an hour, and there were some right types on there. We saw some man lick his phone clean. Ugh. I nearly threw up. Then there were all the girls playing music on their phones... and some bloke behind me was shouting down his phone SO LOUDLY I actually turned round and said 'SHUSH'! Dp thought I could have got stabbed! Shut him up though...

Anyway. Got the moses basket! Want to practice with the teddies now!!! (ahem)

Jael · 15/03/2009 11:55

Morning all. DD is a poorly girl today bless her, we were meant to be going swimming but that's been scrapped now. She was sick everywhere in her bed last night, and again this morning, so were keeping her on water for the rest of the day. Trying to explain to a 3 year old why she couldn't have breakfast, poor thing.

Any more info on the meet up ladies? My CS is either going to be the 28th 29th April or 1st May, iv been told now. Gets me all excited lol

Jael X

Blottedcopybook · 15/03/2009 13:07

Ugh! I've just had to phone my midwife because I have D&V, I think I've just worked out that it's red meat causing it. I assumed that I kept picking up bugs but red meat intolerance fits. Hubby took me out for a lovely dinner last night to celebrate my birthday (tomorrow) and today I just feel grim

daizydoo · 15/03/2009 13:56

Hi there ladies, boy you can all chat! It's taken me days to catch up with the thread and again I can't remember everything I was going to comment on!!

Sorry to those who are ill or have ill lo's, hope you get better soon.

Sausage where do you live? I used to use the 176 when I lived in London, despite your description of your journey it has has made me miss London!!!

re baby movements I find that if I'm really busy I don't tend to feel any movements so I usually try and sit down for awhile and eat something really sweet (not that I need any encouragement!!) and wait for the action!

re tv programmes - does noone like any of the CSI programmes? I love them and can't wait for the new episodes. Although it is sad that Grishom is leaving

We had a good holiday. ds spent the whole week running around and poor dh spent most of the time in hot pursuit as my spd wasn't up to it!! Not looking forward to work tomorrow, I still have about 7 weeks left.

Someone I've not known for long text me a few days ago to say that her 20 week scan had shown that the baby wouldn't live, so they made the tough decision to end the pregnancy. I really feel for her, but am so out of my depth on how to support her best.

Fi - hope you find a new home soon!

Momino · 15/03/2009 15:08

hi all. hope all having a good sunday. it's been a sunny day up in York so we've been on a long walk with dog and toddlers. all the family but me went without coats. do you remember the conversation a while back about feeling warm in this stage? well, I'm still cold and really wish I could have hot flashes. last time, i only remember being warm after dd2 arrived and thought b/feeding possibly made me a 'warm' person.

bump is very, very itchy. really want to get the mamma mio oil but might ask for it as a mother's day gift as it's pricey, isn't it?

MsG · 15/03/2009 15:21

daizydoo, where did you go on holiday? I really like CSI but am only on series one!! Ha ha! It's another one I want to catch up on.

Your friend's situation sounds awful - what can you say? I'm sure she will appreciate your support but it's so tragic.

Momino, I was having hot flushes a few weeks back but they seem to have stopped a bit now! I wonder why.

I've been feeling queasy for about 24 hours now. I think it started after I ate a cheese and pickle sandwich. I remember the last time I had pickle I felt queasy afterwards! This last week or so the baby has definitely moved upwards so I guess everything is squashed a bit up there and I'm not digesting as well as I was.

Momino, have you tried the Mamma Mio oil before? I was reading in a pregnancy book how olive oil or baby oil is just as good!! Doesn't seem so luxurious though, does it?! I really loved the Sanctuary Mum To Be cream my friend gave me for my birthday. I can't seem to find any round here though, so will have to wait till I go to London next month or get some online. x

Momino · 15/03/2009 15:29

MsG, have only heard about the mamma Mio oil here. I'm currently using coco butter but it's not really working. I will try olive oil as it's desperately itchy - i've broken out in red spots on the bump so very irritating.

Blottedcopybook · 15/03/2009 15:49

Momino - you can get almond oil from the chemist and I use that. It smells much nicer than olive oil (well... I think so!)

llareggub · 15/03/2009 15:50

Monimo I'm also covered in red, itchy spots. I googled and concluded that it is something to do with the skin stretching.

We've been out in the sunshine today, and had a lovely time. We made DS run to tire him out!

Momino · 15/03/2009 16:36

thanks for the explanation, llareggub, wasn't sure if my jumpers were irritating it or something else. blotted, almond oil is a great idea - hadn't thought of this and bet it does smell nice (will remind me of christmas biscuits my mom would make with almond essence .

until then, I'm going back to put some palmers butter on it. that smells nice too but just not doing the job.

MsG · 15/03/2009 17:39

Is anyone else finding their emotions are still all over the shop? I keep taking offence at things that wouldn't normally bother me and bursting into tears over daft things.

The itchy spots sound horrible. I've got itchy skin and have noticed some new stretch marks in the last few days but no spots so far. x

Belgianchocolates · 15/03/2009 17:44

Mrs G I've got the Sanctuary mum-to-be body butter too and am loving it. My skin doesn't like oil type things, buttery type creams work much better for me. I got it from my local Boots in the baby section. It's only a small one, so I presume you can get it in any Boots.

My bump gets itchy too, but my belly button is the most itchy of all.

Our ap has gone today, so I got all excited and moved all baby stuff into her room. I was naughty and couldn't wait until dh was back to get stuff from the loft, so I threw all the boxes marked baby down, obviously before shouting: children OUT OF THE WAY!!! It's been great having a look through. I kept loads of baby toys that I'd forgotten about, also a Winnie the Poog crib bumper and coverlet, which is a bit annoying because I'd just got one from eBay, being convinced that I didn't keep the old one as I didn't like the colours all that much. I had also kept all my breastpads, which I'd forgotten about and had already bought some new ones too... I really wish I'd had a look throught those boxes earlier, who knows what else I've got double now!

I took the dcs to see Bolt today. It's really funny and I'd recommend it if anyone is planning on taking their little one to a film anytime soon.

I like CSI, but I've seen it a little too much now. I like House even better.

Aah, I just asked my dcs to tidy up the living room before dinner and my ds has vacuumed too. I never asked for it either. I think he might deserve an extra helping of desert today!

MsG · 15/03/2009 18:19

You can't get it in any of the 3 Boots round here - it's rubbish where I live for shops, though. I love that body butter.

Is anyone else getting a lot of queasiness/heartburn? I think it might be heartburn. I just feel as if food is stuck high up and I worry when I burp that I'm going to throw up - sorry. It's really unpleasant and when I have to work, it doesn't help sitting down. Have had it for over 24 hours nonstop now. Might try Gaviscon. x

SesIsCountingdowntheweeks · 15/03/2009 18:25

Hi!

Belgian - sounds great fun looking through all the stuff from the loft
DH put up the wallpaper border in the baby's room yesterday and it is really starting to look like we might soon be sharing our lives with a lo

I enjoyed watching the rugby this afternoon - DH (lucky sod!) was at Twickenham! He's not even English!! (Irish and hoping for the Grand Slam!)

Re: heartburn, I don't normally get indigestion problems but think I have been getting a little bit of heartburn in the last week or so. Fortunately not enough to bother me too much so hope it stays that way!

pulapula · 15/03/2009 18:36

MsG- yes I'm getting a lot of queasiness and sicky burps (as i call them) at the moment. Never taken gaviscon but might get some in...

I don't have an itchy bump yet, but mine's not that big yet and still got another 9/10 weeks stretching to do. I've never had stretch marks before so fingers crossed i wont again.

I'm excited as we're all off to Chester Zoo tomorrow- hope the weather is as nice as it was today- didn't need coats it was so warm.

After whinging about DHs eye yesterday, it got so bad today he couldnt open it without pain again and couldnt open the other one either. So i took him to the NHS walk-in centre (its so handy as its only 10 mins walk from us) and he's got a scratch on his eye (he thinks DS might have done it the other day). He has to go to the eye hospital on Tuesday to get it checked out, and has some eye cream for now if it hurts again.

MsG · 15/03/2009 20:00

I had some Gaviscon about an hour ago and I do feel a bit better! I'm going to stock up as I can't bear this sensation and thinking I'm going to throw up all the time.

Have a great time at Chester Zoo tomorrow, pulapula! Hope DH's eye soon gets better. x

Belgianchocolates · 15/03/2009 20:22

I never had heartburn/queaziness with my other 2 pregnancies. This time around I do. I have done for the last month on and off and Gaviscon does work. I don't like the texture of it though and have been buying the Gaviscon tablets instead. They're quite tasty and I have to stop myself from eating them when I don't have heartburn!

Pula hopefully that cream will sort out your dh's eye.
