llareggub · 11/03/2009 09:41

belgian it isn't bad, actually. It doesn't get me outright exhausted, but is puffy enough to feel like it does something useful and quick enough to fit into a morning. The post-natal workout is on the same DVD but I haven't looked at that bit yet! In fact, I've only done the warm-up and the aerobic section of the pre-natal workout, I've usually done enough by then!

Sounds like we could have a midlander meet-up to rival the Londoners, what do you think?

chocolatebunnies I do love your dress. Are you going to post pictures for us to see? Pleeeeeeeeease?

fikelly great news on the stairgate. I'm glad it worked for you.

Belgianchocolates · 11/03/2009 09:49

Sounds good to me. It would be good to put faces to the names.

Polony I will be careful on stairs, don't worry. Actually I dont really use them on the stairs. I've only got them for bad days and so far I've found it easier to just walk up the stairs as usual carrying them in my hands. I had to buy a new handbag yesterday to match the crutches (any excuse to go shopping ), because I needed something I could carry across my body or on my back and that's big enough to hold stuff if I go shopping, so now I've got the biggest handbag in the world.

divedaisy · 11/03/2009 10:21

Good morning all! This is my LAST DAY of being in my 30s!! Tomorrow I move in to my 40s!!! ARGH!!! ANyhow I have a bottle of Magners to 'drown my sorrows' tonight!!!

Re leg rash - recently when I've had a bath or shower and I'm drying off, I notice that my thighs are purple coloured with what could only be described as orange blotches. Eventually it settles, but it does last a while - anyone else the same?? Is it due to too much cellulite/poor circulation?? It doesn't affect my lower legs which is strange - stops at my knees! I haven't checked if it goes up my buttocks...

Oh Chocolatebunnies - what a dress - it is abslutely gorgeous!!! If I'd seen that dress, or the teal one, I may have bought one for my birthday to make me feel really glam... I would think the dress is suitable for wearing again - you may even be able to get it dyed???

Fi - glad the stairgate has worked! We used one also.

Re breathlessness - I too didnt know it was related to anaemia - but I've recently had bloods done and would imagine it would be picked up. I see my GP on Friday (13th!!!) so will mention it to her, but I really think it's because of baby bump is tucked under my right ribs and squeezing my lungs!!!

Re Toys - Its Lego in mine!! Everywhere! DS is fantastic for making things, but he's not that great in keeping it sorted, tidied and organised (job for me to tackle today!) DS only has my mum and Step dad as grandparents and mum will buy him small lego packs and ds even knows that 'Nanny spoils me rotten'. Christmas she will spend around £60 - and last Xmas was a big lego set that ds wanted. But for birthday she will purchase him post office bonds as he gets enough from school friends and us! I hate throwing out good toys, so usually either pass them onto younger cousin or charity - but I still don't like getting rid of perfectly good toys - I have tried to ebay things but I find it a bit of a chore - did well on a car boot sale years ago!

I feel quite energetic this morning despite feeling that I didn't sleep very well. Anyone else experiencing very light sleep - the type where you feel as if you're lying awake??

Have a bit of office work to do, then I'll be getting stuck into this place!!! Tidy up time here I come!! But first... a wee cuppa tea & some toast!

Blottedcopybook · 11/03/2009 10:47

Belgian I actually stuck a thread up in the Am I being unreasonable forum last night about our sets of grandparents, I can't believe how much stuff my kids own. It's unreal!

For the ones worried about a very fast labour - I think your ability to cope will really vary. With my first son my labour stopped and started over three days, I was exhausted but managed with diamorphine (which doesn't take the pain away, it just stops you caring about it) and entonox. With #2 I was induced at 42w1d and it was such an operation to get me to dilate at all that I NEEDED an epidural at 2cm dilated otherwise I think I'd have died. With #3 my waters broke just after midnight, I went for a bath an hour later and my contractions were period-pain like at that point. By 4am I asked to be examined to see how long it was likely to take and they reckoned I was "5cm and stretchy" so likely to have another 4-5 hours. I got in the birthing pool at 4.45am, sent hubby to get the camera and screamed for him to come back two seconds later when I got a contraction and DDs head fell out! She was born one big push later, probably less than an hour after really kicking into labour. Hers was the easiest to cope with and the birth that did me least damage in terms of bruising and discomfort - one hour versus the three days with #1? I know which I'd choose to relive!

chocolatebunnies · 11/03/2009 10:53

Morning everyone,

Thanks so much for all the lovely comments re the dress, its made me all excited as your the only people to have seen it! Am glad you all like it! I will of course post up pics of the big day! SO which of the four ways do you think I should wear it? I quite like the twisted strap crossed over at the back and tied at the front, but cant decide!

Sorry I couldn't reply last night, was pooped so thanks to fi for posting a link for me!

Re presents - we're the same here, Madi is constantly being spoilt, as she is the first grandchild and great grandchild and all together she has 12 grandparents (including great) so theres a constant stream of things, we've had to say to people not to buy her any easter eggs this year as she still has loads of xmas chocolate left!

Is anyone else worried that subsequent babies are treated differently by family than the first? It probably sounds silly, but Im worried this one might be left out, as he/she isnt the first, probably my hormonal brain going into over drive!

I got DP to get all the baby stuff down from the loft last night so I could make a list of all the things we have and what else we need so the lounge is currently covered in a lovely arrangemnt of baby things! awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

My mum died a year ago today and am having a tough old time with it. Think the baby can sense it too as although he's moving he doesn't seem as active so am just resting and trying to stay calm and focus on positive things. I think being pregnant the highs are great but the lows can be really low so am spending the day on the sofa drinking lots of tea and eating biscuits! On an upnote i started NCT classes yesterday which made eveything seems so real and pretty exciting! Lots of love to everyone missing people while pregnant - it's hard but at least we have something positive to focus on, in only 7ish weeks for me, eek!

Momino · 11/03/2009 11:23

divedaisy, live it up today! how are you feeling? I join the 40s crowd in July and have mixed emotions. I'd love to join you in a magners .

ladyofmuswell, so so sorry about your mum. it takes so long to get used to but glad you're also looking at the positive side. lost my dad 13 year ago in April which has got easier I suppose. anyway, take good care. xx

i do miss my family who are in the US but hoping a couple of them (including my mom) will be over in May/Jun.

sausagenmash · 11/03/2009 11:57

Morning! I'm starving, I have to go and get my lunch in a mo!

My parents spoil my nephews age 8 and 5 rotten (brothers' children) and are now doubly excited about mine coming along! Mum says 'its different when its your daughter having a baby'. Her and Dad are apparently going mad already, although I do have some very welcome hand me downs from my brother. Will be firm though!!

Llare - I'm very rashy too! Belgian - I'm with you on the eczema front - I've unfortunately scratched my lower legs and hands to ribbons - constantly washing the sheets because of all the bleeding . Had a big pus filled blob on my finger this morning - yuck. Am putting it down to all the stress I've been under with all the PhD tosh. I do find that aqueous cream in the shower helps, and lots and lots of diprobase cream!

choc - that dress is lovely!

Is anyone else a bit fainty at the mo? I had a 'moment' on the bus this morning into work - I had a seat - had to take off my scarf, then my coat, then my cardi... only stopped short of taking my top off! Was NOT plez!

Had a little chat with 'my' midwife earlier, who gave me a tour around the labour and post natal wards - WOW, was I impressed! All the labour rooms are HUGE, with comfy chairs, mats, bean bags, telly, stereo, en suite bathroom, all the baby equipment set up... then they cart you off to the post natal ward (50 beds!) an hour or so afterwards, or if you fancy and everything is ok, you can go home! Am all excited now! I even saw some little cute babies which made me go all coo-ey! Wooooooohoooo!

Momino · 11/03/2009 12:07

sausagenmash, sorry about the eczema, have you tried aveeno? we have it for dd1 and DH who has horrible eczema also uses it. doesn't eliminate but helps.

about fainting, be sure you're eating well. do you carry snacks?

very jealous of your labour rooms. York hosp isn't even close to that standard, you're lucky.

sausagenmash · 11/03/2009 12:12

Also - ladyofmuswell - so sorry about your Mum. Today must be very hard for you. Just think of all of us in cyberspace thinking of you - hope that helps a little ... and don't you dare feel guilty about all those biscuits!! x

SweetBROODY · 11/03/2009 12:20

A quick welcome to the new ladies and a, hi and hugs to those I haven?t spoken to in a while!

I have been gone a week and some and things have really moved on 51 pages to be precise! ... it?s unbelievable how much we gas it?s taken me all of two days to try and catch up! And I?m not done yet.. so a quick post a catch up and will see you all again hopefully today!

The weekend ceremony was fab? It was so busy after the ceremony as sister in law came down from Doha ? god I hate her sometimes! I had to pay for her ticket and she asked for some money from things we?d sold on ebay as her ?share? all the ebay money normally goes to the baby fund

We went to the baby show on the Friday and to be honest it was a huge commercial sell-fest! Didn?t buy anything though but DH booked us a photoshoot for when the baby arrives!

The morning was a disaster because mother in law rang from airport to say that the caters had cancelled for the weekend ceremony and she needed me to cook for 100 people! In normal circumstances no problem I?d cook for 1000?s if need be? but having recently been diagnosed with sever SPD I was so so upset ? I cried through the morning and went to the show really late

Once we got there it was great... DH poor thing said he wasn?t sure how to tell the diff between pregnant or not!

Besides that I have had the 3D scan thing this weekend with a fab company in Hendon... It was amazing?(it cost £150 with 3 photos a CD and a DVD) DH said it had unlocked something inside him and felt liked he loved me even more... he things LO looks like me!
Sorry for the long post it has been a while!

Dandy I totally sympathise about your MIL mines equally annoying but in different ways? a bit two faced and manipulative!

detsy I loved the cow

I?ve gotten huge and put on a ton of weight but people still doubt that I am pregnant? Getting lots of movements and now beginning to worry about the big LABOUR day! Which is looming ever closer!

Now going to catch up properly! only another 35 pages to read!

sausagenmash · 11/03/2009 12:36

Thanks momino - never heard of aveeno, will look it up! My eczema hasn't had a flare up like this since about 1984 .

Am definitely eating ok - had a cup of tea, AND cereal AND yoghurt before leaving home - but yes, carrying snacks is a good idea. Will also get a water bottle!

Am SO impressed with our hospital. Its a tertiary referral centre for maternity care for the south of England, so am lucky to be in the right place at the right time!

ladyofmuswell · 11/03/2009 13:00

Thank you for your thoughts. After reading Sweetbroody's post I thought if there's one day I can splurge on something it's today, so just rang the place in Hendon and have booked myself a 3D scan for this afternoon !

So excited - thanks Sweetbroody for the idea. I'm nearly 33 weeks though so might not be able to see much, but even if it's just a 3D bum and a nice strong heartbeat I know it'll be the pick me up I need!

rosielady · 11/03/2009 13:12

Hi sausageenmash - my DS had bad eczema for the first 1-2yrs, we tried everything including diprobase but found Aveeno was really good - you can buy it in boots or get in on prescription - we used the bath stuff - its kind of oatmeally, and i think you can get body cream now as well. Check that you aren't aggrevating it by using anything with Lanolin in it like E45 as i discovered with DS. Also try using non bio washing liquid for your sheets - we have used tesco non bio again from day one and seems to help. His eczema is all but gone now.

Blottedcopybook · 11/03/2009 13:38

I am bloody knackered today and I really have done nothing except a couple of loads of washing. The babies are both down for their afternoon nap (think they're both sick, they've each had two dirty nappies this morning alone) and I'm in bed being used as a pillow by my three kitties. I seriously hope the kids sleep for a while, I'm so lightheaded

chocolatebunnies · 11/03/2009 13:48

Im so jealous of all you ladies havng 3D scans, I cannot for the life of me pursuade DP to go for it

Jael · 11/03/2009 14:03

Chocolatebunnies I too am worried that this baby won't get treated equally. But more by DP's parents than mine. I'm one of four children so my mom knows all about having to look after more than one. My DD has been spoilt by DP's parents, yet they don't seem interested in this baby at all...

I am worried about this baby being treated differently by DP's parents, I tried having a talk with him over the weekend, which didn't go too well, and he thinks I'm being over sensitive. DD was their first grandchild, and has been spoilt. MIL knitted and crocheted loads for her, cardigans, jumpers blankets etc all in lovely girly colours, and I'm not going to lie, the thing's were beautiful, but since this baby is a boy, none of it will be able to get used. DP can't understand why I'm miffed that she's not doing ANY knitting etc this time, and has shown no interest in this baby at all. DD has a full wardrobe of clothes, including designer thing's that hardly get worn cuz she grows so fast, and MIL likes to "treat her" yet everytime she visits she still buys her more, and so far nothing for this baby...I don't think it's just me...

Went down to see a v.grumpy insenstive MW this morning, who acted like I was wasting her time, I told her I just wanted to see if baby had moved positions as I'd been feeling some v.strange movements and pressure down below that i'd never felt before. She wasn't interested, felt by tummy for like two seconds and said "baby's transverse now, not breech" and basically ushered me out the room,is it so much to ask to have a nice friendly MW?

Lazzer · 11/03/2009 14:11

I'd love a 3D one too... but need to spend baby savings on other stuff really so can't justify.

Also now got problems with our flat roof and have been (so far) quoted £3,400 from one roofer and £1,800 from another. Getting one more roofer in to see what they reckon. Argghhhh!

Polony · 11/03/2009 14:14

ladyofmuswell - hope you have a lovely day. I'm so sorry about your mother, you must be really feeling that now as much as ever.

Momino glad you have your fella home again, and what a lovely bunch your lot are. That phonecall you had must have been frustrating - but clearly they all love you and are thinking of you. I miss my lot as well.

Sausage you putting on public displays now? Just remember to put a little hat down next time. I've been feeling a bit icky - sort of low blood sugary; nausea, headachey and that vision thing i associate with low blood sugar. And it goes away if I eat, sooo...

I think I'm a lot tireder that I've been admitting to. I spent the day at the hospital yesterday and in between appts caught up with some buddies across the road at the university, went and had lunch - a 9am to 5:30pm day - today I am shattered. I knew that if I had to go to work like ordinary people do instead of working from home I'd be - erm, f#ked, but yesterday proves it. back to the icky - I recall some the others saying they'd been feeling icky or faint again - that was a couple of weeks ago and they're a couple of weeks more pg than we are Saus* so maybe its just week - holy moly we're in week 30 now! Now I'm hyperventilating...

Polony · 11/03/2009 14:30

My cat piddled in the kitchen sink this morning.

I recall seeing our old family friends video footage of their grandchildren. yes they made us watch it. First child, so much footage that i thought I might need a bucket. Second child, similar but not quite so excessive. Third child - well he was like a streak across the screan there was so little footage of him. As for the other two...

Re exczema - my brother has it terribly badly and he uses neutrogena tar stuff to wash, the body stuff and the shampoo, and something called pinetarsal. And paw paw ointment. And at times - water close to boiling and a fork - poor bugger. Ouch.

I have such a mushy brain today though, I can't remember now whether i saw those ointments here or in Australia - neutrogena is obviously here but can you get those red jars of paw paw cream here? I'm sure I've seen them?

chocolatebunnies · 11/03/2009 14:31

jael thats exactly the same as whats happening here too! when i was pregnant with Madi i could not shake em off, the constant flow of cardy's, blankets, DP's parents bought all the bedding and the cot for us, but this time round nobody has done anything, not offered or anything, and if Im honest, its upsetting me more than anyone else, not that Id tell anyone this is how I feel, don't get me wrong, i don't expect people to buy stuff or make stuff, Im just miffed that Madi had everything and this little mite isnt even getting a look in yet, and with 10 weeks to go, it is really worrying! I really dont want them to be treated differently. I sound really selfish but thats not what I mean!

Polony · 11/03/2009 14:35

Not that I'd recommend the fork or the hot water.

Chocbunnies you don't sound selfish.

Polony One of my cats peed on top of a bag of compost. I'm not sure which one, but I'm rapidly getting sick of the protests!

I'm worrying a little NOW about our families treating this baby differently! The grandparents haven't bought anything for this baby but I was taking that as a good thing because for the first time I might actually get the chance to buy the things I want rather than have to use the things they like!

Jael If your MIL isn't knitting, then that's her loss and your beautiful son won't be modelling her creations - get your needles out and make something yourself! I've only made a pair of longies for this baby so far but I've just cast on for a matching woolly hat (that she'll never wear because she's being born in May!) I'll make you a deal - I dye my own wool in variegated colours. You can check out my blog and see the stuff I've dyed in the past. I'll send you 100g, all you have to do is tell me what colours you like. I actually have a gorgeous skein of baby blue and green sitting here if you promise you'll use it
