MKG · 07/03/2009 19:20

Hi all I'm here. I've been enjoying my two days without working and focusing on attempting to be a good mom to the boys. Had a midwife appointment yesterday and I'm still between 1-2 cm dilated and ready to go, just waiting. I thought that they would induce me early next week but I have an appointment on the 12th so I guess they aren't too worried.

time to catch up on what I've missed.

babyinbelly · 07/03/2009 19:33

MKG Really thought you were having baby

My legs are really red the last few days. Struggling to reach my ankles to shave them so half arsed attempt. DP was not keen on helping so my next question of, 'do my bikini line?' didn't go down too well! He said he didn't care and neither would the MW or the baby so I had to suffer!

Last few hours my boobs haves started leaking loads. Literally dripping (sat in dressing gown with no bra!) Does this mean that labour will be soon does anyone
know? (40+1) or could I still have another 2 weeks to go? Sorry if TMI.

Anyone seen any news on Emma? Her thread in pregnancy sounded promising...

grinningbee · 07/03/2009 20:15

Blimey Boobz! If I go and do the shopping, will you come over to mine and do the cooking? That's so organised.

I really ought to get into gear - I've packed the baby hospital bag, but not mine yet. Still, plenty of time yet!

laweaselmys · 07/03/2009 20:55

I had to stop cooking on wednesday, having filled half our freezer. Unfortunately we kind of need normal non-ready made stuff in there too!!

On to the TMI and induction methods:

I tried sex last night to get baby moving. Both me and DP and now wandering round complaining about how much our backs hurt (lol, we're such old foogies...) and apart from my first BH! (exciting, was a bit confused though, because it didn't hurt - was just uncomfy) absolutely nothing has happened.

Oh well. Has at least reawakened my taste for sex so DP may not be allowed a break till this baby gets out... need to find a better position though!!

Baby Beetle arrive Friday morning, 6.07. 3.32kg. 1 hour 40 min labour. Made it to the hospital 15 minutes before she arrived - very scary! Home from hospital last night. She's very gorgeous and peaceful. Her big sister being very good with her.

SpookyMadMummy · 07/03/2009 21:48

Congratulations to the new mums! Been a while since I posted.

Signing into the fed up corner.

I have 2 weeks left, but my bump is bigger than either of my previous pregnancies and I cannot get comfortable at all. On the plus side, since my 12 week appointment I have only gained 11lbs, so I really have not much excuse for feeling so uncomfortable!

I sent DH out for fish and chips tonight cos I just could not be bothered cooking. I am having quite alot of BH now, some of them are more uncomfortable, not painful.
Midwife for me on Monday. The last 2 checks at 34 and 36 weeks, the baby's head has been right down in my pelvis.

mamasmurf · 07/03/2009 23:08

Congrats to the new mums! what a close one Beetle MadiganI seem to be living on a diet of cereal, chocolate and Appletiser. So much for the Omega-3.

Huge congratulations to all the new mothers and sproglets. The list is really beginning to swell isn't it?

Jimmy is a week old as of 8:42 this morning. Seems to have gone past in a heartbeat. Which is distinctly frightening - I hadn't expected all the time-flying adages to be relevant for a while yet.

Congrats beetle - Another quick labour, well done .

All my energy of last week seems to have disappeared and I am tired. Beginning to get water retention which is annoying but given I had it badly with dd from about 30 weeks its not so bad !

jollyjoanne · 08/03/2009 13:03

Oh well today is technically d-day and absolutely no sign of the baby arriving at present.

Congrats to Beetle.

Congrats to all the new mums who have popped since I was last on a couple of days ago!

My LO now has a name (a first name anyway, middle name is still under discussion!)- she is called Natasha.

Here is a brief(ish)telling of my induction and birth story.

Went into hospital on Monday morning - gel was applied at 10.15 am after an examination. Baby only 3/5 engaged, bishops score of 5.

A few crampy pains throughout the afternoon.

2nd dose of gel applied at around 5pm, pains got worse so I put tens machine on. Midwife said 'they're just gel pains, you'll need another gel in the morning, and then we'll see if we can pop your waters'.

8pm - sent DH home, got into the bath to ease pain - it worked - read a chapter or 2 of my book.

8.45pm - no longer able to read as was climbing the walls in pain - contractions every 2 mins. Crawled out of the bath and into my nighty, and down to the midwife station. Bawled my eyes out....was sent back to my bed and told to put my tens back on, as only gel pains.

9.30pm - MW came to check on me - I was still bawling, on hands and knees on the bed rocking.

10.00pm - MW returned with portable gas and air and the offer of an examination - both accepted gratefully. Was told that I was 5cm dilated and they needed to get me to delivery suite pronto.

10.15pm - phoned DH whilst off head on G&A and told him to get back to hosp immediately. Was wheeled through the corridoors at breakneck speed in a wheelchair.

10.30pm - arrived in delivery suite - MW there told me that she's just come onto her shift and that she would be finished at 8am and that she'd be lucky to see a baby. I was laid on the bed and strapped to a monitor. Ctx still every 2 mins for 1 mn. Bad bad pain.

11.00pm - DH arrived. MW advised that the pains were just gel pains, and to lay off the gas and air as I'd need it more later. Said that she'd examine me again in 45 mins and discuss pain relief options. I replied that I would like all pain relief on offer!!!

11.45 - Examined again - 8cm dilated - MW agreed that perhaps I was actually experiencing real contractions....fine to take G&A now! No other pain relief allowed now though as not enough time!

Anyway - to cut a very long story short - lots of G&A and pain later, an cord around baby's neck and an episiotamy (sp?) - Natasha arrived at 1.58am - it was totally amazing.

It has been a wonderful 5 days so far, second twocute with the tears, and I also now have a minor uterine infection to contend with, but Natasha is breast feeding like a pro, I'm gritting my teeth and ignoring the painful nips situation, and am completely in love with my beautiful LO, and would go through it all again in a second.

Will post some pics in a bit.

lollipopz · 08/03/2009 14:00

Congrats Goldmum great story! You sound so proud hopefully the nips and stitches aren't too sore. Congrats to all the other new mums too. Well my best friend that is due same day as me sounds like she is on her way! slightly jealous!

meep · 08/03/2009 14:01

wow - what a story goldmother and to the MW's!!!

Looking forward to seeing the pics of Natasha.

I remember a friend of mine having to convince a student mw that she was about to give birth after the gel was applied. The student had been left with her while the mw went for a tea break and my friend resorted to saying "if you don't get the bl**dy midwife back in here I am going to start pushing NOW" - cue very prompt reaction and a baby born shortly afterwards!

titmouse I think you asked about how your friendships change after you have a baby. I have found that I have a new group of friends through NCT antenatal classes and I try to reserve the full baby chat to them as we are all more than happy to discuss the minutiae of nappies, poos, sleeping, feeding that would bore my childless friends senseless.

I do have some friends who I "lost" after dd was born - either because I was no longer at the pub or because they had been ttc and couldn't cope. It is sad but I know that these friends may be back once they have their own children.

TBH though although you will miss and even yearn for your old life at times, for the majority you just want to be at home as a family. You don't want to stay out late or get too drunk as you know you have to cope with a baby the next day.

But when the time comes that you are confortable leaving your baby (or toddler) with someone eles for the night you will have such a good night out that it makes it all worth it!

I suppose my only tip is not to talk about babies constantly with non-baby friends (and believe me you will want to because it is amazing and incomprehensible that they won't find it amazing!). You will feel a bit lost because there isn't much else going on in your life - but your non-baby chat will come back!

Madigan · 08/03/2009 17:48

congratulations goldmum and beetle !!!

Been having BH since 2am yesterday - easing off now, but definitely there! Have not had them before .... does this mean labour will start soon? MW said that head as 3/5, whatever that means?
Going to loo every 30 mins - surely this cannot be normal?

Wow. goldmother's story is alternately inspiring and terrifying.

meep, thanks for your thoughts on how friendships evolve after baby arrives - that's been on my mind a lot lately, as I've got no friends in town with kids.

Maybe this is psychosomatic after reading so many birth stories - but is it anyone's experience that nausea/queasiness can be a sign that labour might not be far off?

I'm at 37+6 and have been feeling pretty consistently lightheaded and queasy for the past 72 hours, which is unlike me. No contractions that I've noticed, and Cletus is still ratcheting around like a madman - but I'm SO not ready for him to arrive! I need to get to at least Mar. 18 in order not to lose any of my paid maternity leave (which starts Mar. 11). Of course, the selfish bit is that I'm booked in on the 12th for a massage, haircut and waxing, and am supposed to attend a wine fair on the 13th.

Fingers crossed the little booger stays put...

Well after saying that nothing was happening at the moment, I have started to feel rather horrible.

I have back ache and period style cramps which come and go, not BH as it is only in the bottom half of my tummy. And I am also needing to go to the toilet ridiculously frequently. Do you think this may be the start of something or wishful thinking becuase it's d-day?

Great story Goldmother and lovely name. Congratulations again !

Corgi - not sure whether your signs are imminent labour signs. Hopefully not if you don't want them to be (cross your legs - that should do it ).

Nothing to report here - been bored and impatient all day. Thankfully havea busy week so should keep me out of mischief !

Wheelybug · 08/03/2009 19:03

ooh cross post jollyjoanne - sounds like it might be something... fingers crossed - keep us posted !

jollyjoanne · 08/03/2009 19:42

As there have been no other signs I am thinking I could be in for a long wait. I just feel like I have bad period pains, but they are definitely coming and going which is abit weird, so I have a pillow for my belly and a hot water bottle for my back. I am hoping I can get some sleep tonight and that we have some action tomorrow. However, given I feel like sh*t now, I hate to think how rubbish I am going to feel when the contractions start!

Hey jollyjoanne, hope you are ok.

I can empathise - been having the smae back ache and cramps but I've not had a show yet and I they are really irregular so thinking it might jsut be nothing - boo!

Does hurt quite a bit though

My fingers are crossed for you!

I'm excited about Emma - I reckon she's holding her baby right now...

Madigan the fifths thing is quite confusing - she means the head has got 2 5ths to go down into your pelvis yet (so 3 5ths are firmly wedged in there!) except that apparently you cant judge anything from this as some women engage all in one go and then go into labour and some are fully engaged for weeks!

Would be lovely if there were more rules wouldnt it!?
