Right then, I can't stand the mad scrolling any more so I'm starting a new thread.

Hope you feel better today, fashill. Hugs. Don't worry about the stretchmarks. Wear them with pride as my last midwife told me...

Saw a midwife yesterday. Yet again a new one! On the upside, she said that what I experienced last week was probably pre-labour and that she doesn't expect me to go full-term! Wahey! Knowing my luck, I'll still be here at 42 weeks though. Feeling much more positive now generally.

Yep the arnica sounds like a good bet - anyone know if it's safe?? (Gave dh mega doses before he got the snip a few weeks ago ).

Preggars · 20/04/2005 15:38

I put the arnica cream on my DS bumps all the time (he's 2!), and mine for that matter. My friend used the tablets for both her births and said it really helped with the bruising.

hollya · 20/04/2005 16:07

hooray, hooray head's engaged!! just been to midwife and it seems like those funny pushings i've been having was her head engaging. not long now, i'm very scared and excited!

claudi2 · 20/04/2005 16:15

Hello again, here is the lowdown on the arnica ... I got myself one of those labour and post-natal kits.

Arnica 200c: one granule every 30min during labour (dont know wether i'll remember to take it that often)

Bach Flower rescue remedy: every 15min during contractions

Then there is lots more stuff in the kit for specific situations, but the recomend arnica 30c, Bellis perennis 30c and Hypericum 30c to be taken 3 times a day after labour to reduce the pain and swelling.

So I'm no expert, I just copies what it said in the kit

was talking to my osteopath yesterday who said I could staet taking Arnica now, just to build it up in my body ... so I started last night

cab · 20/04/2005 16:37

Woohoo hollya!! Think maybe I'm jealous - I was just 2/5 last week. What's your due date?

cab · 20/04/2005 16:38

Oh and thanks for the info Claudia.

claudi2 · 20/04/2005 16:42

hollya ...I'm excited for you ... I'll see the midwife tomorrow, but somehow I dont think I'm quite there yet ...posted this message on the stats too ...my brain cells are definitely going

claudi2 · 20/04/2005 16:43

ok then, I think I'll start doing the hoovering

hollya · 20/04/2005 16:44

due on 9th may so am 37 + 2 at the moment. the midwife told me to have lots of sex, but alas i don't think dp is too keen, he thinks he's gonna hurt the baby. i just think he doesn't want to do it with a big fat heffer with stretchmarks!!

cab · 20/04/2005 16:47

Claudia we'll have to meet up once the babes are born - are you north or south of aberdeen?

claudi2 · 20/04/2005 16:50

south west, towards Banchory ... do you live near Aberdeen???? I've got to go and pick up DD from school, but talk soon

Brighteyes · 20/04/2005 16:50

wow you lot have been really busy today. Took me ages to read everyones posts.

Cab no decision made on the c-section yet. My community midwife and her colleague are convinced I need one but the consultant who I saw on Tuesday is happy to see how things go and let me go natural.
When my midwife found this out she was totally shocked and told me the probability of me having an emergency if they wait for me to go into labour is really high and she can't understand the consultants decision.
Midwife is going to give it 2 weeks and then refer me back to consultant in the hope the consultant sees sense, but that will only be 9 days before my edd so maybe be to late anyway.
Although my care is midwife led they can't arrange the c-section without the consultant's approval.
If the midwife still thinks I need a c-section in 2 weeks I will ask to be refered to a different consultant to the one I have seen.

All very upsetting and confusing at the moment and the last thing I want is to end up with an emergency c-section.

On a lighter note I'm start to rattle with the pills I'm taking. 6 raspberry leaf tablets a day, one arnica tablet, one iron tablet and one zantac (helps prevent heartburn), plus I've just started to use the perineum oil. Anyone else trying to massage the most awkward of places?

shhhh · 20/04/2005 16:58

Claudi 2, i presume that Bach rescue remedy is ok to take during labour then? With this being my first baby i'm v scared & wanted to take this to try and settle me as much as possible during labour. I checked with my pharmacist and was advised to consult my doctor as they couldn't guarantee it was ok.
Just to clarify the rescue remedy is the pre mixed in a yellow bottle?
If it's ok to use then i'm off to boots at the weekend to stock up along with batteries for my TENS (Thanks logic and tea tree oil to heal stiches I may end up with

shhhh · 20/04/2005 17:03

yeah dh tried to do the perineal (?) massage for me but we gave up ! I have tried but I haven't seen my feet in weeks so theres no hope of me suceeding with massaging it myself! Any 2nd (etc) time mums out there who recommend this massage...if so I may just have to speak nicley to dh

northstar · 20/04/2005 18:03

gp's funeral today (v quick in ireland), but way too packed i couldnt get anywhere near it, or even park the car within walking distance so I came home - hope he knows i care.
Had to go see a midwife yesterday, just felt wierd, she said baby's head is right down and ready to go. AAAAAAAAAAGH! For someone who has spent the last 8 months waiting to have a baby I'm suddenly not so sure Im quite ready yet. This thread is getting really active now, the support is great isnt it, even knowing other people are suffering helps for some strange reason. Sometimes I wish I was having twins, because I'd love 3 children, but somehow Im thinking I wont go through this again. Does that make sense?

fisil · 20/04/2005 19:22

Wow, what a busy day!

Hollya, I am so jealous - I am only 4/5. Is it your first? DS was engaged from 36 weeks, but I'm now 39 weeks and he's still bobbing around in there.

I've had such a bizarre day. Terrible night, back to the depressive insomnia which I haven't had in ages. People keep saying "oh, you've got to the sleepless stage" and I've been thinking "yes, but getting up to have a wee/drink three or four times a night is nothing compared to what I had the first 5 months". But last night it was back to that. Eventually I went to the spare bed where I just cried, and then posted on MN at 5:30 a.m.! Saw my SW this afternoon though (luckily it was already booked) and that left me feeling much more positive. So DP & I went out for a bite to eat. When we got back we found an answerphone message. I have a job interview ... on Tuesday ... which is my due date!!! We couldn't stop laughing at the beautiful ironic timing! I don't know yet whether I will accept the interview. If it is simply a sitting down interview then I'll go (labour permitting, of course). But if it involves teaching a lesson then I'll have to pass on it! Can't see myself standing for 10 minutes, let alone teaching a bunch of teenagers for an hour! So, as I said, a very strange day!

cab · 20/04/2005 19:55

Sorry Claudia thought I had replied but computer ate my words: I'm about an hour south of Aberdeen.
Brighteyes these medical folk should sort themselves out before worrying us poor mums - hope they get their act together for you soon. (I've just had midwives disagreeing so far - on whether I may/may not have pre eclampsia and whether the baby is too big for delivery at local hospital. Don't think there's a problem tbh - I'm just BIG.).
fisil - glad to see you're feeling a bitbetter today and congratulations on the interview.
northstar - sorry about your gp. Good news that your in the Hollya camp - we should start a sweepstake on who'll be first.

hollya · 20/04/2005 21:31

well although i am engaged the midwife told me not to get too excited as it may still be another couple of weeks if the baby is deciding to be naughty. both dp and i have been giving my bump a good stern talking to, so hopefully that should do the trick!!

the midwife also said that if i got to my due date to go in and see her and she'll do a sweep for me to get things going. now this sounds very yucky and uncomfortable, has anyone else had this done before?

fisil i too have taken to sleeping in the spare room, even the sound of dp breathing irritates me and stops me sleeping. most nights i end up in tears at 3 or 4 because i'm bored and tired and can't sleep - roll on birth!!

hollya · 20/04/2005 21:41

claudi2 good luck with midwife 2moro, hope everything is well (and engaged!)

claudi2 · 21/04/2005 05:04

Thanks hollya!

Shhh, I'm sure Bach rescue is ok. The reason your pharmacist was concerned is because the flower essences are dissolved in alcohol (but unless you are with AA, even if you were to drink the whole bottle, it still would not harm your baby. Anyway I got the kit from Gowri Motha, some celeb obstetrician down in London, who sells all sorts of birthing supplies, so I'm sure it is safe .... it was also recomended in the Waitrose book on natural pregnancy, which I got with my bounty pack from the maternity
as for the stiches - I would really try the perineal massage, I heared it really works (from36 weeks)

cab, yeah, lets meet up when our babies are here. Whats you Edd?

Nothstar, sorry about your GP ... I'm sure you'll go on to have 3 bambinos, but take your time ...look at me I waited 12 years before having number 3 (Idont recomend that ... but...)

Anyway, now that I have gotten all that of my chest, maybe I'll be able to sleep

SamCattie · 21/04/2005 08:27

brighteyes - where did you buy your perineum oil from? I had a link on the internet but it was £12, I went to Boots holland and barrett and no one had even heard of it let alone sell it.
I am going to try these raspberry leaf tea things everyone keeps going on about. I am 35 weeks tomorrow so I guess it will be safe?

cab · 21/04/2005 09:24

Claudia 050505 - 2 weeks today - is my due date. Would be nice if that's what happens.

tex111 · 21/04/2005 10:20

Cab, just followed you over here from the Due in Nov board. So great to see you! Glad things are going well too. I just read down the thread a bit and looks like you're almost there. Sooooo exciting. Can't wait to read your birth announcement. I had been looking out for you. Glad you found me!

fisil · 21/04/2005 10:23

Hi Tex - how you getting on? Great to hear from you!

logic · 21/04/2005 10:40

I'm not going to bother with perineum oil. I didn't last time, ended up pushing for nearly 2 hours and still didn't tear and need stitches. Not one stitch! I think it's one of those genetic things like stretchmarks tbh...
