Right then, I can't stand the mad scrolling any more so I'm starting a new thread.

Hope you feel better today, fashill. Hugs. Don't worry about the stretchmarks. Wear them with pride as my last midwife told me...

Saw a midwife yesterday. Yet again a new one! On the upside, she said that what I experienced last week was probably pre-labour and that she doesn't expect me to go full-term! Wahey! Knowing my luck, I'll still be here at 42 weeks though. Feeling much more positive now generally.

sniff sniff...

Three months off for me.

Don't apologise. I didn't think you were gloating. I'm jealous og most peoples maternity plans.

Preggars · 20/04/2005 12:28

Gee Shucks, I managed to do it again.

I've got to come up with a master plan whilst I'm off, as I really really do not want to return to this job.

Hey I could be back sooner.. depends if my savings dissapear too quickly.. I don't get anything above SMP if that helps x

claudi2 · 20/04/2005 12:35

Poor uwila, when I was living in France I was made to feel like a total moron because I was a SAHM,.... so I eventually went back to work, and just think, you will be able to talk to adults while we are watching the shopping channel on the tele(no, not really... )...and yes I do work in the oil industry ...not that many options for geologists

Preggars · 20/04/2005 12:40

Claudi2 - how long are you off this time?

cab · 20/04/2005 12:46

Can't believe how busy this thread has been - don't think I'll ever catch up with everyone's news - but hi to everyone I've met before and greetings to the new(ish) faces.
Sorry you've been having a hard time of it brighteyes - are they going to do the csection? Lost track somewhere.
Don't know how you lot who are working are coping -I'm a SAHM and am absolutely shattered. If this was my first pregnancy it would definitely be my last! I'm hoping that when the baby arrives I'll have some relief from varicose veins in horrible places, leaking, bad back, blurred vision, sore hips, exhaustion, terrible skin, sicky, diahorrea, no clothes that fit, etc etc. 41 is definitely too old to have a baby!! Don't do it. And feel free to shoot me for whinging.
Anyone else obsessed with early signs of labour??

claudi2 · 20/04/2005 12:47

planing to be a SAHM for a while, since this will probably be last one, considering my age(40)...and Dh working in the oil industry too, it can be quite stressful

hollya · 20/04/2005 12:50

i think i left work too early, this is my third week and i'm sooooooooooo bored.

Preggars · 20/04/2005 12:50

Hi Cab

This has been a harder pregnancy for me too, and I'm 29, so it might just be the being pregnant thing! Everything is pushing down there at the moment. Bottom seems to be under a lot of pressure and am preying I'm not getting piles Also - Still throwing up a few times a week and heaving willy nilly!

But, hey ho.. not long now.

Tinker · 20/04/2005 12:51

I'm still working and am 40. And am bloody knackered as well

Preggars · 20/04/2005 12:53

Hollya lol!

Are you nesting at all to keep you amused?? I did a lot of walking whilst I was waiting last time. So much so that I ruptured my membranes at 39 weeks, so i had to be induced (saved me waiting any longer!).

You'll laugh when you think back to being bored in a few weeks!!

claudi2 · 20/04/2005 12:55

cab, I do empathise with the varicose veins, this pregnancy I just have them on my legs thank God (which means they can be controled by tights ... although what a fiddle at night when going to the loo ), and I am wearing a belt to control the SPD ...

uwila · 20/04/2005 12:56

Hi Claudi,
I too work in the oil industry (but not for an oil company). Always nice to meet women in this business.

Whinge away, cab. That's what we are here for. God know plenty of people on this site have listened to hours of my "nanny saga". So, hey, it must be my turn to listen.

Oh, and they only way I fancy having another child is if I don't have to go through pregnancy to get it. Two is enough. WE are done after this one... who incidentally is going to get an early eviction notice if he doesn't get out of my bloody ribcage/chest cavity.

hollya · 20/04/2005 12:57

cab i keep thinking (or hoping!) i'm going into labour. i spend most of my days thinking that every twinge is it! all morning i've had odd pressure like pushing down, could this be the head engaging? got midwife this afternoon so hopefully she'll say it is. probably not though knowing my luck. i know i'll still be here at 42 weeks going insane.

uwila · 20/04/2005 12:57

Oh yes, forgot to mention that work is actually a good thing (once I get my fat ass here). Sitting at a desk all day is far preferable to running after stroppy toddler.

hollya · 20/04/2005 13:01

preggers i have been nesting like a maniac. yesterday i obsessively hoovered the whole house and arranged the baby clothes into sections. today when i get back from the midwife i have already planned to delimescale the bathroom and scrub the kitchen floor. my mum highly recommended housework to me to bring on labour, she had all three of us at 37 weeks, so housework shall be my priority!!

claudi2 · 20/04/2005 13:12

hollya, I'm impressed, my wet washing is still sitting in the washing machine since last night and well I should really get the hoover out, but I think I'll just have another cup of that vile RBLT

hollya · 20/04/2005 13:16

don't be too impressed claudi2, before yesterday i hadn't hoovered for about 2 weeks and the washing basket was overflowing. i just got overcome by boredom yesterday and decided it was time to do something about it!!

claudi2 · 20/04/2005 13:25

No, its good, its given me a kick up the backside, just hung out one load and have put another in the machine, and maybe I'll get those teenagers to do some hoovering and hope to God, that they dont start negotiating a price :0

Preggars · 20/04/2005 13:34

I remember thorough cleaning the fridge and all my kitchen cupboards last time.

Thing is, I have a busy two year old to keep amused. Picture this, me (near 36 weeks) climbing around a toddlers in-door activity place with my DS yesterday. Down the slide into the ball pit, up ladders, everything. Christ, if this doesn't bring on an early labour, don't know what will!!

Maddison · 20/04/2005 13:40

Hi everyone

Uwila - I'm counting down to 13th May too - thats my due date and is 3 weeks, 2 days, 10 hrs and 24 minutes away!

I'm feeling a little bit shitty today, feels like I'm getting a cold with sore throat etc. Just my luck I won't be able to shift it before baby arrives and I'll have to endure a long and nasty labour not being able to breathe like last time

Hollya - lucky you for not having to hoover much - we have 3 dogs so I have to hoover everyday!

SamCattie · 20/04/2005 13:51

Everyone keeps talking about the raspberry leaf tea. When is the best time to start taking it (How many weeks must you be)
What are the benefits?

Preggars · 20/04/2005 13:55

Hi SamCattie,

It ripens the cervix, making labour quicker and more effective (or something like that). As for taking it, anytime from 34 weeks, but personally going to wait until 36 weeks. Capsules are better, as teas is apparently yucky.

uwila · 20/04/2005 15:06

What about arnica? Is anyone plannning to take it? Do you know recommended doses? When do you start taking it? When do you finish? I didn't take it last time (hadn't heard of it then) but I'm planning to this time. I got some from Holland and Barrett but I think I got a weak one, and I'm not sure if I should go get a stronger one too.

Any advice on Arnica?

logic · 20/04/2005 15:13

Something that I ought to mention in case anyone else is as daft as me:

Last night I had very bad back pain so I put on the TENS machine. Even though I ramped it up to level 5, it still wasn't taking the edge off the pain which really scared me because at the full height of stage 1 labour I only needed level 6/7! Then I noticed that the battery was low...

So check your TENS machine batteries!

Definately going to take Arnica, but will ask Holland & barret.
