I keep saying we don't have money...he keeps trying to telling me that we need time off... But I don't know if I'd be able to relax knowing we'd be spending money we should be saving...

BabyBolat · 04/03/2009 16:33

Blue, maybe say you already have a nice weekend planned (then go for nice long walks, picnics etc) and do something less expensive!

Sorry girls to post this so early but I have to go to this event now so new thread here

Someone will need to make a authoritative decision as to when to move over to avoid confusion!

gingersarah · 04/03/2009 16:33

Help!

Boffin, or anyone else - I have had an unexpected request to sing at friend's funeral next Thursday. I have no idea what to sing.

Can you suggest a secular, calm, not horribly miserable piece that is suitable for a funeral? for a very out of practice low sop / high alto?

BabyBolat · 04/03/2009 16:36

Springy if you log on later can you text me an update on Nutty and Barbarelly?

BoffinMum · 04/03/2009 16:48

They are great bf tips purplemonkey.

Ginger, I hate singing at funerals because I always end up crying. Anyway, there is a bit of an overlap between some of the more sedate wedding repertoire and funeral music, funnily enough.

Try one of these:

Panis Angelicus (Franck)

Gaelic Blessing (John Rutter) (you will probably need it transposed a third down)

Ave Verum (Mozart)

The punters will love any of those.

BB, they will say much the same as us in the class if it's anything remotely related to the NCT. If not, report back and we will check the information.

gingersarah · 04/03/2009 16:52

Thanks Boffin. Are they all godly? the deceased specified no God.
I am trying to rummage around and find something non-committally soothing and Vaughan williamsy - and easy...

Or what would be a good folk song?

BoffinMum · 04/03/2009 16:56

Oh blimey you didn't say anything about no God.

Let me have a think.

Schulte · 04/03/2009 16:58

Hey hey

Schulte is back from mega shopping spree. Bought lots of boring baby stuff but also some cute new outfits for DD as she's grown out of everything recently. Lady at Holland&Barrett tried to sell me a homeopathic birthing kit for a mere £24 - eh? I politely said no I'd just go for the bog standard arnica!

LuLu, we're going to have a party for DD's 2nd b'day since it's a few weeks before my due date. Just bought the invitation cards today and I think we'll have 6 of her friends round plus parents, and let them do some messy play with salt dough, drawing and sticking. I bet I'll be knackered by the end of it!

Plans for after baby. We've been invited to a wedding in Paris at the end of June. Baby would be 2 months old, we'd be travelling on the Eurostar and staying in a hotel in central Paris overnight. I am not sure I can do it... my main problem is leaving DD behind and going to another country! But also, taking a travel cot, having to borrow a lightweight buggy that's suitable for newborns, and knowing that I'll still be a sleep deprived zombie at that point... What would you do?

Right, catch up time...

BoffinMum · 04/03/2009 17:02

Peter Warlock - Sleep?

Sleep was an Elizabethan metaphor for death. I am not sure what musical level you are - this is about Grade 5 or 6 in terms of its chromaticism.

I will keep thinking.

tristaleejac · 04/03/2009 17:03

hello, I had a quick scan through and see barbarelly was due to have her babies at 2, how exciting!!!
Is there any news???

LuLuBai · 04/03/2009 17:04

oooh sarah thought of some lovely ones but all godly.

We had Amazing Grace and Abide With Me at my grandmother's funeral. Agree with Boff that Panis Angelicus would be wonderful (had it at my wedding).

On the less godly, I've always wanted Dolly Parton's 'We Used To' at my funeral but that is probably just me . And it's very weepy.

Schulte · 04/03/2009 17:06

Okay, replying to some of the posts - Swali and others, thanks for advice on mixed feeding, I think I'll stick with the expressing then, just thought it might be easier to use formula but can see your point.

Also Swali, PPH sounds really traumatic, poor you! I lost a lot of blood and MW was very worried for a few moments until she had worked out that it was because I had such a bad internal tear. I have now been diagnosed with lowish iron levels - just below 11.5 - so does that mean water birth is out for me too?

BB, when I went into labour with DD all I felt was huge relief (she was 5 days late and I was SO fed up) and then I just focussed on the labour - there was no time at all to think about anything else.

gingersarah · 04/03/2009 17:09

Oh Peter Warlock, there is an inspiration.

Dolly Parton also an inspiration! But unfortunately probably everything in her repertoire would have everyone rolling around deliquescent with anguish. Or it should, or you're not singing it right. Not sure if I could make it through a Dolly Parton tear jerker!

Not sure I can make it through anything, tbh.

LuLuBai · 04/03/2009 17:13

Schulte - I would be worried about leaving DD too. I'm not very good at leaving her for an afternoon, let alone over night!

But focussing on the new baby - Eurostar is very baby friendly. The changing facilities are pretty straightforward and the seats are reasonably comfortable for breastfeeding. The only thing I would recommend is treating yourself to a cab from home to St Pancras as I have tried the tube / train route with a pram and luggage and it's not much fun.

What travel cot have you got? I have a Samsonite pop up that weighs less than 2kg but actually last time I went to Paris with DD I found that it was easier to get the hotel to provide one.

And what sort of buggy do you have / do you need? My Jane is very heavy but I have travelled all over the place with it and found it ok. Last time I didn't take it on the Metro though!

mathsmummy27 · 04/03/2009 17:14

Just popped to tesco - major baby event got loads of fun stuff really cheap...

Wonder how Barbarelly is????!!!

gingersarah · 04/03/2009 17:15

I can't wait to hear from Barbarelly...

LuLuBai · 04/03/2009 17:16

Wot you got in Tesco mathsmummy???

There is a massive one a shortish drive from me that I discovered the other day when driving aimlessly (ie lost) around the countryside (those darn lanes all look the same!).

tristaleejac · 04/03/2009 17:18

Just ordered my RLT from ebay, bring it on. My uterus will be toned and ready

LuLuBai · 04/03/2009 17:19

Who is Barbarella's buddy?

tristaleejac · 04/03/2009 17:23

mrsfossil is her buddy I think

Schulte · 04/03/2009 17:30

Lulu - do they let you take a cab with a baby? Without a car seat? I have a very big pram for the first 3 months, but two of my friends have the McLaren that you can use from newborn so thought I'd ask them if they'd let me have it / swop for my standard McLaren over the w/e. Hotel cots... have had bad experiences with those so would rather take my own. I'd prefer to take DD but not sure the bride&groom would be too pleased

LuLuBai · 04/03/2009 17:32

I'm sure Barbarelly will be way too busy to make contact today though.

Imagine having three babies to gaze at. Newborns at the best of times are like eye-magnets but THREE of them!

I couldn't take my eyes off DD for at least a week. Even when she wasn't waking me up for a feed I kept opening my eyes throughout the night just to look at her.

bronze · 04/03/2009 17:46

I've just bought myself the samsonite pop up crib. I have a bo standard travelcot thatsonly ever been used twice I think and a couple of times as a playpen. I got the popup crib for when I go to Kosova. I havent seen it in the flesh yet so to speak though as my fil picke dit up for me. Is it going to be small and light enough to pack for a flight.

Sarah I really like the tummytubs too and have been umming and ahhing and by definition I can't do pfb.

LuLuBai · 04/03/2009 17:50

Schulte - it's up to you but the legislation on car seats doesn't apply to taxis or private hire vehicles.

Some taxi companies will provide a car seat for advance bookings but others seem happy to just let you hold the baby. I have found this nerve-wracking at times but also useful.

After I had DD I really, really wanted to go home. DH was at work and so I gathered together my things, put DH in the sling and hailed a cab on the Fulham Road.

On the other hand last time DH booked a car to take us to the airport and it had no car seat I was furious. Speeding along the motorway to Gatwick trying to restrain an overactive toddler is pretty stressful.

bronze · 04/03/2009 17:51

Stong woman "
put DH in the sling ...."
