Hope no-one minds me kicking this one off - 39 pages seemed a bit unmanageable!

Had 20 week scan today. Tiddler unco-operative to start with (although not as bad as DD was - took 3 goes to see everything) and it looks like most of the bits are in the right places. Decided right at the very last minute not to find out the sex. Realised that, if DD thinks she's going to have a sister, that nothing, not even photographic evidence, will change her mind anyway. So stuck with the 'don't ask don't tell' as per first time around and will just have to wait to sort out all the sodding clothes 'til we know what we've got.

Although... What do gonads look like on a scan?! Got a very good look at the hips from underneath, so to speak, and thought I saw two little bright spots, but that could be the sitting bones of course. Anyone tell me what the crown jewels look like on a scan?!

hi trix
I'm with you on the bright colours but then my whole house is quite bright! When I did DDs room in yellow Babies r us did a brights range but I don't think they do anymore.
Ikea does some fab bright accessories - have a look on their website. Also try ebay shops. Enjoy. Neither of my 2 got 'nurserys' just plain painted walls. That way a change of teddies /linen etc and the room grows with them. My DD is just starting to complain that her room is yellow not pink though (but i'm sure thats peer pressure!)
Enjoy it though. I am feeling slightly deflated that I now can't think of anything I need to buy except newborn nappies I picked up my bargain swing and ordered my TENS today.
Can't believe i'm 24 weeks tomorrow - how crazy is that - 4 more weeks and i'm in my last trem!

QueenFee · 16/03/2009 20:42

DD - Dear Daughter
DS - Dear Son
DP - Dear Partner
DH - Dear Husband
DCs - Dear Children

and so on
x

ilikeyoursleeves · 16/03/2009 20:43

Jenny DS = dear son, DD = dear daughter!

I have a Quinny Buzz in red for DS, 'tis fab! We used the carrycot as a moses basket so you won't need to use a baby hammock (unless you really want to that is!).

Evening all, haven't posted for a while as was doing nights last week. Doing more this weekend then thats it for nights til after maternity leave!! Yey!

If anyone likes benefit stuff, you can get 15% off online at the moment. www.benefitcosmetics.co.uk, then enter BENEYAYW at checkout.

Also getting a P&Ts, need to go and look at the various models, any advice?

From not feeling much at all bumpette is now making up for it and already kicking me most uncomfortably rather a lot. And so long to go still, so will get worse!

Congrats on all good scan news, and to hobnob.

Jenny79 · 16/03/2009 20:47

Week 23 and my belly measures 95cm.
My husband's measures 110cm
We had a good laugh about it today.
Thinking of strapping the heart monitor to his belly tonight ...

ilikeyoursleeves · 16/03/2009 20:49

Hi bozette, I don't know much about them but found out that the E3 model of the P&T is very basic and the sport or vibe are better. I think the Vibe is the most pricey one. I need to go and check out the doubles in a shop really, but the tandems look so long and the twins sooooo wide!

trixiechick · 16/03/2009 20:55

hunny that all sounds rather familiar. but look it's not pathetic we're very important people doing a very important job. And that means getting what we want IMMEDIATELY!!
Tears are a very valid form of communication right now! (stroking your bump and looking sad with a big sigh is also very effective)

icandy apple is a cool buggy very nearly went for it myself. I've just put a deposit on the new Britax ventura 3+. I've got to wait til May to get my hands on it though not instant enough for lil miss stampy foot.
Phoenix that rocker is adorable.

I've got an anomaly scan on Wednesday.. 24.3 weeks. Scared, excited and nearly 90% sure we're going to find out if we've a boy or a girl providing lil roo co-operates that is.I haven't bought as much as a babygro up to now. not too deep down I'm a terrified first time mum to be. I always get like this before a check-up. I'm desperate to be told everything is o.k.

One more thing, I know I'm coming to this discussion late but I was going to shop for a baby bjorn but I notice you guys talking about the cari me? Is it a better option? oh no something new to obsess over. Do we go back to normal after all this????

Jenny79 · 16/03/2009 20:56

Some time ago someone asked me about the Listening Monitor I got from Mothercare

www.mothercare.com/Summer-Infant-prenatal-listening-monitor/dp/B000IVU83A/sr=1-8/qid=1237236668/ref= sr18/277-9345142-0180111?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n=42764041&mcb=core

This is brilliant if you're over 22 weeks.
Its own headphones are not the best, if you have an iPod, use those headphones instead. I use this every other day with DH .

trixiechick · 16/03/2009 21:05

just read you message ilikeyoursleeves, omg did you really do all that in the couple of weeks before your son was born? that's supernesting very impressive and it sounds gorgeous.

ilikeyoursleeves · 16/03/2009 21:29

Trixie it was fine really cos I went on M/L at 34 weeks and DS didn't arrive til 38 weeks so I had loads of time! It was funny though, I had difficulty painting the canvases on my lap cos DS was kicking so much and kept bumping them LOL!

LargeGlassofRed · 16/03/2009 21:40

Hi all, quick check in. Been mad busy lately.
My Mum and husband sold there house, but they couldn't move into the new one yet so Living with men at the momnet which means I'm on a lilo in the lounge. Not good when your 6 months gone with twins

Also I'm moving in 3 and half weeks! eek and have lived in my present house for 9 years so spending every minute decluttering which is a never ending task.
Will be nice to finally live with dp though.
Once I've done that I have to go bankrupt and get divorced, all before the twins get here, I hope.

I'm finishing work at the end of April, taking May of as leave and starting maternity leave at the beginning of June.
I can't wait I'm exhausted.

LargeGlassofRed · 16/03/2009 21:42

God sorry I just read that back [blush)
their house
Living with me not men

LargeGlassofRed · 16/03/2009 21:47

BTw anyone else suffering from constipation, mine is awful and not getting any better.

Jenny79 · 16/03/2009 21:56

only thing I'm suffering from is crave for anything sweet that ends up in my kitchen... . Looking at a loaf of freshly made chocolate cake just to my left... yummy.

constipation = porridge with bananas or crunchy oatbakes in the morning sort me out for the daily dosages on fibres...

xxhunnyxx · 16/03/2009 22:15

trixie thanks I'll remember to try the stroking bump and looking sad technique, I'm sure DP will soon clock on to my crocodile tears lol.

largeglassofred i was gettin bad constipation but now it seems to have cleared up but now I've got piles instead lol sorry if TMI . All bran is fab and also a tin of prunes. I spoke to midwife tho and she said that you can take senna as it's a natural remedy. Oh and make sure u drink plenty.

Jenny79 · 16/03/2009 23:03

If you are on Facebook, do look up Summer 09 - West London Babies and join !

mickeylou · 17/03/2009 09:16

i cant stop eating mangos a the moment. i keep buying it in packs from asda as i really cant be faffed with the cutting it all up. my friend keeps telling me i am definately having a girl because supposedly you crave sweet things with girls. i am keeping tight lipped tho as DH has sworn me to secrecy on the sex. laughed last night when i saw on the laptop DH has saved scan pick under "Miss Baby" .

DS told him last night that he didnt think the baby would like him (DH) very much and he (DS) was going to be the baby's most favourite person!! he is at that stage where you can only be friends with one person at a time.

been getting a bit down due to lack of bedroom for the baby. we sold our three bedroom house last year to help DH set business up and now have a 2. really wish i could have the old house back to get a nursery decorated!!

does anyone else have two DC's in one room? i am worried about baby waking DS up and then having 2 to deal with at 5am instead of 1?

Cheekycel · 17/03/2009 10:57

im constantly craving desserts; apple crumble with custard, sticky toffee with custard...or maybe its just the custard im craving!

constipation fruit & fibre for brekkie, and then lots of fruit during the day seems to do the trick for me. I suffered quite badly early on but its seems to have settled down now.

After not much activity, the LO seems to kicking for England at the moment! I complained to DP that baby was just as lazy as him, and now there has been no end to it, LOVING it though.

Have a scan tomorrow, so hopefully will find out the sex

ilikeyoursleeves · 17/03/2009 11:11

Morning all!

I have spent my morning so far frantically researching the Cosatto Duo tandem cos I saw it going for £60 on the net but I keep reading 'you get what you pay for' ie it's probably no good! I'll need to start the double buggy research...

Re piles & constipation I think we may have to form a subgroup LOL cos I am plagued with both! Probably not helped by my rubbish diet ATM (just ate 4 choccie digestives) but I really need to sort it out cos I had bad piles after giving birth to DS and I couldn't even sit down!

mickeylou we live in a 3 bed house but one room is for DH's music stuff. He really needs this room as he is a musician and has all his instruments, CD's and computer in there. DS is in his own room which is an OK size but not massive either. The plan is for baby to sleep in our room until about Xmas, then we will put baby2 into DS's cot and DS will get a lovely big boys bed at Xmas time. I am also a bit worried about having 2 in the same room initially in case DC2's sleep is crap (DS is a great sleeper just now) but there are lots of benefits to them growing up in the same room too. Another bridge I'll cross later on!

LGOR good luck with all the moving, divorce etc! But how come you are on the lilo??? Should your mum not be on the lilo instead if you are PG with twins??????!

Have a good day all, DS is in nursery and I am on A/L! Might go and do a bit of gardening cos it's sunny here. I'm also waiting for some deliveries, we just bought a new DVD recorder after ours died on us and also a Henry hoover cos ours is ultra crap. It's a sad day when you are looking forward to getting a new hoover!

Lillabet · 17/03/2009 12:25

Got an almost new Chicco CT0.2 travel system for free at the weekend. It's red so it doesn't matter if I have a boy or a girl! The car seat has never been used, which is fab! I looked it up online and it is between £190 and £290 to buy new .
The friend "popped round" on Saturday as she and her husband were "in the area". She was quite rude to me and I told her I wasn't going to put up with that. She was suitably abashed, apologised and proceeded forth with a torrent of excuses. As the LO had decided to stop kicking me for the last 8 hrs I wasn't really in the mood (all is fine, just paranoia!) to deal, but plastered a smile on anyway . Have told her she needs to understand that DH and I are busy and trying to make as much of the time we have on our own/to sleep as we can, while we can. As her DH was there, she seemed a bit more reasonable. Will see how it goes though .
Thank you all for the advice on the friend and on the couldn't live withouts!
Re: constipation - shreddies in the morning, stewed rhubarb, bananas, lots of fruit and veg and if really bad Fibrogel. I was told not to take senna as it prompts intestinal contractions and it can cause problems when you are pregnant! I was also advised; just because something is natural doesn't mean it is safe in pregnancy! I'll stop wagging my finger now .
Sorry, that was a long one! Not had access to MN for a couple of days!!

Belgrano · 17/03/2009 15:32

Sooo glad there are other spoilt brats out there! I am terrible right now - I've got my Phil & Teds and my sling and now I have totally moved on and instead of appreciating them Im wanting a MAC laptop to repace our massive ancient slow PC and a dog. Yes, a dog. Not remotely baby related but I am preparing to be very much a weeping bump carrier to get my point across!
Also have made a list as long as your arm of jobs for DH to get done around the house before I am stuck in it going mad on mat leave thinking- "I hate that damp patch on the wall/missing skirting board/hissing phone line/mess of cables coming out of the cupboard so much I want to scream!"
I am surely a terrible, acquisitive, materialistic brat.

Belgrano · 17/03/2009 16:12

Oh - Phil & Teds - the Sport is the new version of the E3 and is updated with loads of improvements. They dont sell E3 any more so Sport is the business. If you want to spend an extra £100 then the Vibe looks very snazzy but really has exactly the same actual features as the Sport, just nicer chromed metalwork and therefore looks better (and it should, for nearly £500!).
Those are the two doubles that Phil & Ted make - Sport and Vibe.

EvieBear · 17/03/2009 16:36

Hi all
Great to hear all the news! Back from Madrid last night- went with my two best friends, one of whom lives in Germany so she got to see my bump for the first time since Xmas! We had a really nice time and did the bus tour so I could see everything without walking lots, weather was amazing! Very warm summer temp's and nice chilling in pavement cafe's and parks... Back to reality now.
Had my 24 week antenatal appt today so blood pressure and fundal height all good. Also heard heart beat again but LO kept moving so it would disappear and doc would have to find it again and again lol!
Am currently being kicked right in the bladder - eek!

I haven't ordered anything yet- still researching prams. I think I have now found THE ONE- it's the Micralite Toro, you can add a carrycot to it too, only thing is the seat part is forward-facing only but hey ho, I'm sure he/she will survive. It's impossible to get everything in the one product.

Bye!
PS a colleague just mentioned that it's important you buy and bring your breast pump to the hospital so that if baby isn't latching on properly, you can express and not have to go through the pain of engorged breasts while learning how to do it properly...

mickeylou · 17/03/2009 16:42

i have also compiled list as long as my arm for DH to get done before baby arrives. one of which is completely re-floor downstairs of house!! we have these exposed wooden floorboards which i just dont think are clean enough for a baby to crawl around on. too many cracks etc. want a nice laminate floor that i can mop with dettol type stuff and know its clean. theres also a missing skirting board to replace, a damp patch to paint and the list goes on and on. he may kill me before july...

now i have the pram the only thing i am really looking forward to buying is little girl shoes!! whenever i go in clarks with DS ive always thought the girls shoes are sooo gorgeous whereas the boys have about 2 pairs to choose between.

21 weeks + 3 now and really getting booted about!! also feel better than i have in months (she says before she gets too huge and starts whinging again!!)
