PinkTulips · 26/02/2009 13:21

speaking of wind.... lbb i owe you a massive thank you, your method of winding that you posted ages ago (tipping him back so head is lower than hips 2/3 times, then patting his back) seems to be about the only way aaron will bring up his burps and i think i might have gone mad by now without it!

he's still having issues with my right boob, the let down is too fast for him and he gulps air in surprise everytime and ends up screaming with wind about 10 seconds into the feed.... funnily enough it doesn't always bother him at night lying down. hoping he'll grow into being able to drink from that side though as i don't fancy 2+ years of lopsided boobs!

Mrsy, thanks for the reassurance ... it's funny, i was never this panicy and nervous with the other 2 but after his shaky start to life i find i'm becoming a neurotic mess!

dinkystinky · 26/02/2009 13:29

Coco - congrats on the safe arrival of your little man. Love his name! Sorry to hear about your post op woes - vitamin E and arnica may help with the healing (if you're into taking vitamins). Are you trying anything to help the mangled nipple (ouch!)? Have heard good things from friends about "Silverette" which help nipples heal - otherwise breastshells and lanisoh (to let air get to the boob and to promote healing) may do the trick. Hope it all heals soon. And fingers crossed your wound stays clean and blood free!

Catstar - lovely to see you on. It does get easier - give it a few weeks hon and Samuel will start sorting out his days and nights hopefully and will be going longer between feeds. Hope you get a good rest while your mum is over. And chocolate is definitely your friend in sleep deprivation territory - make sure you keep eating little and often to keep your blood sugar levels up while you're so exhausted.

Pinktulips - Danny's belly button had dried blood in it when the stump came off of its own accord; am not worrying about it and just cleaning it and keeping it dry. Still havent given Danny a bath yet as he's still got dry skin on his legs and arms - it is improving though so hope will get to bath him this weekend.

dinkystinky · 26/02/2009 13:33

Pinkbabybump - if you scroll back maybe 4 or 5 pages both Herbgarden and LBB gave some advice on dealing with windy babies which was pretty good.

Pinktulips - re fast let down: I've found that holding the boob with my other hand (just above and below aureola) helps slow down my let down enough to help Danny drink without choking everytime. May be worth a go for you with Aaron. And given what he and you have been through, no wonder you're worried about things!

dinkystinky · 26/02/2009 13:59

Lardy - bright yellow poo is great! It means he's getting your milk - and everything he needs from it (the thirst quencher milk AND the fatty hind milk) - so all is good. Give yourself a huge pat on your back.

ihavenewsockson · 26/02/2009 14:03

Hi all,

had my little boy on tuesday at 20:44.

called him Viktor Jake Patterson.

weighed 8lb15 and it was a 12hr labour, he wasn't in a very good position & i had an epidural so it slowed down for the first stage, they let it wear off in time for me to push and the second stage was only 20mins!

he's gorgeous, just waiting for the milk to come in as he is sooo hungry but all goin well.

congrats to all the other new mummies, i'm gonna go back and read thru all that i missed over the last few days.

dinkystinky · 26/02/2009 14:04

Congrats Newsocks - I saw your thread in childbirth! Great news your little man arrived safely and lovely names too!

Apologies ladies for crashing your thread, and congratulations to all the new arrivals!

I normally hang out on the May antental thread, but I'm here now because I'm looking for chilledmama - I hear you had a breech birth at home. I'm very interested to hear more, and have a thread about breech vbs here if you have a minute. Appreciate you're a bit busy right now though!

Thanks loads!

Just added us on the list. I cannot believe it has been ten days already... I'm up to my ears with my two little ones and cannot even start reading through this thread. Hope that everyone is doing well and enjoying the new arrivals. Congrats all, well done!

america · 26/02/2009 16:18

Ups, forgot to say that I had a VBAC and managed to give birth without epidural as planned. Overall a lot more positive experience than with DS1 which ended in an emergency section.

Calico1 · 26/02/2009 17:49

Just amending DD's birth date on the list as it had my due date on the list instead.

Lilian still hasn't put on even a gram in weight despite the mammoth feeding regime over the last 24 hours. Midwife has agreed another 24 hour review before doing anything as she seems to be ok otherwise, though I have been instructed to offer her formula after every feed this time.....

Well done newsockson sounds like it all went pretty well for you.

Cocodrillo · 26/02/2009 17:56

Thanks MrsY and Dinky. I'm trying Lansinoh at the moment for The Nipple, and expressing from that side to feed. I really want to carry on breastfeeding, but its not something that comes naturally to me.

Congratulations to all the other new arrivals since I last checked in. We seem to have lots and lots of little boys.

Is it normal for babies to sleep almost constantly? I know you will probably feel like flaming me for saying this, but DS is sleeping almost constantly, night and day. He's probably been awake about 4 hours in the past 24. Can't help thinking this is too much?

dinkystinky · 26/02/2009 17:59

Calico - its great Lilian hasnt lost any more weight; given her mammoth feeding session of late, am sure she'll start putting on weight soon. Keep going - you're doing a great job.

America - well done you on your VBAC - great stuff!

dinkystinky · 26/02/2009 18:01

Coco - Danny was just like that (he's only just started waking up in the past week or so); it is normal (basically being born and learning to breastfeed and all the stimulus of the world around them totally exhausts them). I found I had to keep waking Danny (by changing his nappy - he did NOT appreciate that but did like the olive oil massages afterwards ) every 3 hours or so otherwise my boobs felt like they would explode when my milk started coming in.

Cocodrillo · 26/02/2009 18:09

Rufus hates having his nappy changed too. He startles wildly, like he's thinking where've the walls gone???

dinkystinky · 26/02/2009 18:15

So does Danny - its really funny! Definitely recommend a quick gentle massage of their legs with olive oil afterwards - really calms Danny down (though am doing it for his dry skin more than the calming down bit).

Coco I love the name - it will be wonderful having a little man after your girls they are fantastic loving creatures.

I suffered from a wound split after DS1, it was very frightening, but if you ensure that you get some rest, lie on your left (helps the kidneys work more efficently) it should be OK. The reason your feet will be as swollen as they are is that your kidneys are struggling to drain all the excess fluid behind your wound.

I could only wear birkys and this was in march and my feet looked like pigs trotter I have stretch marks on them to prove it

Enjoy the sleep whilst you can and a tip for the nappy change. Hold a teryy square over him as you take the other nappy away. Not only will he still feel cocooned, he wont pee on you when his willie is exposed to the cold air. Never - I repeat never change him on your bed in the middle of the night

Catch up soon

herbgarden · 26/02/2009 19:42

Coco - DD still sleeps a lot - and she's 5 weeks old tomorrow......worry not ! Today for example between 7amish and 6.30pmish she's been awake about 5-6 hours in total for about an hour at a time. In the first couple of weeks she literally opened an eye decided it was not a good idea and went off again - I woke her every 3 hours to feed her so that I knew she was getting plenty particularly given that she was quite small. She then just went down at night and the sleepfest continued. In fact it became a bit of a joke and DS would come running in yelling "Mummy, Baby Amy has her eyes open"

I remember DS being sleepy but I'm not sure he was that sleepy......

littleboysblue · 26/02/2009 23:14

FFS!!!!! Just typed out the longest post, what with my day and catching up responses, took ages coz I popped out and had a drink or 2 (ok 3) and it seems to have hit me

Here I go again then.....but you'll all be relieved that I will spare you too many details from my day, apart from I think my neighbours are some sort of sexual deviants! Remember I said the girl living acroos the hall has been coming over alot telling me she doesn't have any friends here and needs to get out etc? Well, I invited her to come to town with me today and lets just say she shared a bit too juch info! I don't actually know details as didn't ask, but when you enter a relationship on line on the basis of discussing sexual fantasies....... or am I a real prude?

Catch up, may be less detailed than the one I just typed and lost....
littlesez Just because this is your first doesn't mean that you won't discover something baby related that some of us don't know or haven't tried. No matter how many dc's we have, no one ever knows eberything, I know I'm still learning and will be for the rest of my days where children are concerned.
Oh, and 'afterpains', don't talk to me about them!! If painkillers aren't keeping it under conrol, please get seen. The labour ward are responsible for you and Isobella for 28 days post delivery, so worth a call and a check, better safe than sorry.
lardy I second what dinky says about tummy massage, the clockwork direction follows the digestive tract, so shoukld get everything moving.
Coco, guitar and newsocks huge congrats
PT Glad my tip helped Was gonna put this at the end of my catch up bit but, I said in response to mrsY that the warmer the milk, the easier the wind, but due to a very tough night last night, where me and 2 ds's were all crying tgether at 3:30 (I even phoned dp at work to tell him I couldn't do this...., quickly, Luke screamed from 10 to *2:30, only stopping ish when I fed him, the ds1 woke at 3:45, so I layed on his floor while he tried to get back to sleep till 4:30, Luke woke at 5, and we slept at 6:30 til 8)I gave Luke a bottle that was room temp and he did some monster burps, so today have either given room temp milk (if water hadn't been in fridge) or just taking chill off so not as warm as before and he is not gulping so much, is not making that weird squeaking noise we were talking about the other day, and is taking the whole 4oz which is offered, so he either wants his milk room temp or I was warming it too much. Just shows, different babies.......
Coco Don't knock the sleping, it won't be like this for long so take full advantage!! They say that the more a baby sleeps, the more intelligent he'll be as the time when they are asleep is the time when their brain files away all the new sights and experiences of the day, so this is when they do most of their learning (and growing)
Not sure which one of us hates nappy change more, the baby as think the temp change to his willy might not be nice, or me being covered in pee-pee!
dinky Luke has lots of dry skin too so m using olive oil, but I'm also putting a bit in his bath water.
TheMadHouse I put a fresh folded out nappy under the old one sao can whip it up and over when I see the willy go up, but am normally far too slow.....Yes, the nappy change on the bed is awful isn't it? The pee last night was so much that it seeped through cover and duvet right onto my legs!

Cocodrillo · 27/02/2009 08:41

I spoke too soon re the sleeping: he was awake from about 7.30pm (the minute the DDs went to bed) till 2am last night just guzzling and guzzling and intermittently doing a massive poo. At least he wasn't crying much, he seems happy as long as he's allowed to feed a lot.

Thanks for the tip re olive oil, Dinky.

Have caught up with a few posts, someone was asking about bedtime routine? I think with the DDs we started a bath/winding down/bed routine from about 6 or 8 weeks, and they had definite "bedtimes" between 3 and 4 months. I remember being quite strict about only letting them sleep in their cots/baskets at night though, which is strange, as DS hasn't slept a single night in his basket yet - and is sleeping really well!

LBB, your neighbour sounds interesting. My neighbours are much more boring and tend stick to talking about the weather and house prices .

littleboysblue · 27/02/2009 08:50

Coco Poor you last night with the baby being awake all that time. asier if their not screaming like a little dinosaur though
We had another night, I fed Luke just after 11:30, he winded well but was wide awake until gone 1am (I gave up and fell asleep as he was quite content at this point), then both of them woke at 3, Luke for a feed and not sure about the other one, so went to ds1 to give dummy and teddy back and a quick sush, then went to prepare Luke's bottle, ds1 still screaming, so just got him up and put him in my bed, he fell asleep there after about an hour but Luke was horrible! Didn't settle til gone 5:30.

My neigbour is odd, the first time she came to my flat, she sat down and gave me her whole family background from her dad's affairs, to her mum's affairs and same sex relationships, her half sisters and her concerns about some of them not being as sexually responsible as they should be, internet chat/dating, that her MIL is a complete cow, her lack of self-esteem and self-harming etc etc etc and it's te same cnvos each time I see her just a bit more detailed. I told her yesterday to seek therapy......

PinkTulips · 27/02/2009 09:45

at your neighbour and her need to share lbb...... who needs soaps with someone like that around!

dinky, aaron had really flaky skin too but oddly since he's been having baths it's actually improved. i just bath with plain water and don't use any lotions so no idea why it's helped but there was an immediate improvement after his first bath.

i'm shattered this morning as he had a very windy night last night and screamed for ages, kept rooting and screaming for milk but as soon as he started to swallow he'd be screaming in agony from the wind. sat up trying to burp him for hours.... only occured to me at 5am to give him his dummy and he settled til 8am then.

have to go do shopping and toddler group but the only 2 pairs of pants i own that aren't maternity or falling apart at the seams got puked on yesterday so really have no idea what the hell i can wear..... not keen on venturing out in a skirt!
