Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
littleboysblue · 25/02/2009 21:25

dinky Yes, the gp said it looks like an allergic reaction too. I told her haven't changed anything at home, also haven't changed eating etc. I told her about the amount of AB's I've been on recently, but she didn't seem to think it would be that. She gave me some piriton and some Diprobase cream and said if no better by friday, make an emergency appointment and if not gone by monday make an appointment and they take some blood.
One thing after another here.
Thanx for the hot bath/shower advice, will stop doing that then
littlesez Congratulations on Isobella Rose, I am so sorry that you had a rough time, hopefully you're both ok now. It is all uphill from here though. Share as much or as little as you want to, but we are all here or on fb if you wanted a more private convo with someone, but this is all very overwhelming. Give yourself plenty of time, get as much rest as possible, take up all offers of help from everyone for everything, and if you find yourself getting upset about whatever happened, have a good old cry and then look at that precious little girl. xxx
pbb Glad you're ok, that sounds very scary. Hope the pain stays manageable.
katie fantastic news glad it went well.
MrsY I use boiling water in a plastic jug and put bottle in there for a few mins, (that's when I'm not using microwave, but it leads to uneven heating, I'm just always in a big rush)test it on inside of my wrist. I do Luke's so that I can feel that it is warm iyswim.
I'm using Dr Brown bottles and yes there are more bits than in the normal avent bottles for example. With ds1 I started off with avent but he was having bad winding probs and a few friends recommended these ones, they are a bit more expensive but I just thought, if it helps him, then it's worth every penny. They are a PITA to clean and I can only get 3 in a 6 bottle sterlisier.
herb a friend of mine is using Dr Browns too and says they leak quite badly, mine only leak if I screw the lids on tight when water is fresh out of kettle, so I rest lids on and wait for them to cool, but my friend's ones leaked when you were feeding. I babysat her ds one night, was feeding him and the milk was going everywhere, weird coz mine have never leaked like that.

About clothes, last time I got straight to Primark and New Look and bought a whole new wardrobe (had to get some tops that weren't flashing my once impressive cleavage, I was a mum now!), this time I can't afford to so am still in maternity clothes and am hating it!!!!!!!! I found a few pre-preg clothes, pretty sure I must have had more as there was only 2 pairs jeans, 2 pairs trousers and 3 vest tops, not sure where evrything else is, I prob threw it all out or down charity shop. Not sure I'll ever get back into my size 12's though or should that be whale?

rosieposey · 25/02/2009 21:26

Im back in my pre preg clothes so am pleased - i got DH to get them all down from the attic, was plus size anyway but did go up two dress sizes and have lost two and a half stone since delivery had LOADS of fluid though - just didnt realise how much i had on my legs and feet ect so including baby and fluid its not that much but ate fairly healthily anyway because of diabetes so i dont think i put on lots of weight and a good job too!

DH promised me a bit of a spree clothing wise when the summer comes but to be honest ive had a look around and it all looks fairly much the same as last year and the year before so maybe a few more pairs of trusty linen trousers and that'll do

Congratulations on the flurry of new babies announced today littlesez sorry to hear about your tough time of it - i hope you and your lo are a ok now though xx

Right its half nine and im off to bed as will be up like the rest of us no doubt for half the night!

littleboysblue · 25/02/2009 21:30

You lot can't go to bed yet, what about Desperate Housewives? It starts again at 10, I'm very excited. Luke will wake halfway through it for a feed though so will watch st half on channel 4 and hopefully will catch 2nd half on C4+1

nkweto · 25/02/2009 21:43

scubagroover.. sorry good luck i meant !!

lbb.. i am still here waiting for Desperate Housewives LOL.. but may not be online for much longer

.. still in maternity clothes here. .have about a stone to lose for pre preg weight.. but that wont happen until i finish breastfeeding so will only buy primark/new look if necessary until then .. then old wardrobe or new clothes if required..

lardybump · 25/02/2009 21:58

evening all...

I have had a bit of a worry today. DS had a really bad night. He would scream and look like he was wanted food so I would put him to boob and he would latch on only to pull away a couple of mins later and scream. This went on all night so neither of us slept. Told MW who said it was probably due to my milk coming in and giving him a tummy ache.... Anyway he has now gone 32 hours without a poo.... I have just called labour ward who are going to get a MW out tomorrow..... But told me not to worry. I am really worried though that he has a blockage of some kind..... Has anyone else had experiance of this???? He is only just 4 days old....... DD had about 5 poos a day at this age. He doesn't wind very well either!!!!

nkweto · 25/02/2009 22:03

Lardybump.. DD didnt really poo when my milk was coming in.. but once she started she really got going !!

Check with the MW tomorrow, but I am sure it is ok.. massage his tummy a little, that used to help DS who didnt wind very well

ok.. i promised my DH i would not spend all evening on the computer.. i must try to step away from the computer

lardybump · 25/02/2009 22:22

Thanks for that...

littlesez · 25/02/2009 22:40

nkweto Didn't send that text after all! Also about 20 others didn't get it, should have just done a send to all!

Thanks for the lovely messages on here already, this group has been amazing and so supportive! I especially think the first timers get so much fab advise and i am very grateful. I feel like i wish i could pass on some wisdom, maybe It will have to wait til next time(ermmmm what am I saying, next time!!!!!!)

Any advise on after pains ladies? i have been suffering so much and evryone keeps telling me its normal but at the hospital, i was begging for pain killers. Paracetemol and brufen didnt really cut it so doc gave me tramadol, with the advise that they are very strong and they worked for 2 hrs. I am sat here in agony waiting til 1am for next lot and got tens machine on. Does everyone get these pains? did they last for days, weeks? Any hints.

xxx

dinkystinky · 26/02/2009 08:13

Lardy - sounds like it might be wind; are you breastfeeding? If so, I've found that downing camomile tea (any camomile tea is fine - if you dont like the taste you can have it with spiced apple etc) by the bucket load has helped loads with Danny's wind issues. If not, Herb and LBB have been recommending infacol and Dentinox respectively for bottle fed windy babies. See if keeping your little man slightly more upright after feeds helps (it stopped Danny squealing). Is your little boy doing lots of wet nappies? If he is, hopefully he's like Nkweto's little one and saving his poo till your milk properly comes in. I know they say that breastfed babies cant be constipated but some hang on to their poos for longer - DS1 used, from really early on, to go days without pooing and then just have a poo explosion!

LittleSez - the afterpains are your uterus contracting down - if you can just try and breathe through them as I dont think the Tens will massively help unless you have it on permanently. If you're breastfeeding you'll find they are worse when you're feeding (especially at let down time - I call it the "oh god" reflex) - but its all good as the more they contract down, the sooner it will be over. Keep taking your Raspberry Leaf Tea as helps tone your uterus. Other than that, there isnt much that can be done about them - but they do pass fairly soon I promise. If they are excruciating, speak to your midwife as is worth getting it checked out sooner rather than later as LBB and Mamagoose will testify.

dinkystinky · 26/02/2009 08:17

P.s. Lardy - if you're massaging your little man's tummy, do it with two fingers in a clockwise circular motion on his lower belly (under belly button). Massage with some olive oil may help relax him a little bit anyway to get the wind out. Also if you're bathing him, a nice bath can help relax them (which will help get the wind out). Hope you both manage to catch up on your sleep today.

LittleSez - also meant to say, you can try a lavendar bath. Lavendar promotes healing and the warm water may dull some of the pains of the contractions.

lardybump · 26/02/2009 08:24

DS I am breastfeeding so will get some camomile tea today. DP went to 24 hour Tesco at 4 this moring for infacol as well as we have had another sleepless night. I am worried about his feeding as well, he goes to the boob but only stays on for about 5 mins then comes off crying... As he has not had enough he then wants to go back about and hour later.... I am so sore after 2 days of this. What can I do to make him stay on for longer??? Really starting to feel abit down about it all at the moment...

dinkystinky · 26/02/2009 08:34

Lardy - you can post on the BF board and am sure Tiktok or another BF counsellor will be on soon to advise. However, he's still really young so 5 minutes is good - and they will bob on and off lots (DS1 and DS2 were both like this to start off with)and feed for hours to start off with.

The thing I found best with DS2 (who was and still is a pretty sleepy baby) is letting him feed for his 5 minutes, then burping him (which would wake him up), then if he is still really dozy stripping off his babygro over his legs (which would wake him up more) and then finishing his feed (generally on the same boob but some counsellors advise maybe changing to the other boob as the let down on the other boob may wake them up abit too to feed more frequently). Also try changing positions - Danny will fall asleep more quickly if cuddled (in lying down feeding position or cradle hold) but will stay awake a bit longer in the clutch hold or football hold position (which I'm not a massive fan of but they do the trick if he's having a v sleepy feed). You can also try blowing on DS's face or making loud funny noises to try and wake him up - again, I dont particularly like having to resort to these but will do it if he is having a really sleepy feed.

If you're worried you're not producing enough milk, another herbal tea which is good for calming babies tummies down - and upping milk production - is Fennel tea (bit of an acquired taste am afraid). You can get it from supermarkets too. But as your DS is feeding little and often am sure you will soon have milk in abundance.

lardybump · 26/02/2009 08:39

Thank you for this I will get some Fennel tea as well... I think I may try to get to a feeding clinc as well just to check how I am doing as I have not had to use any breast pads yet although when I hand express milk does come out... Going to try and get a breast pump today as well.

nkweto · 26/02/2009 08:53

Littlesez.. i am sorry, i wish i had stayed online a little bit longer last night...i would echo everything Dinky has said. if it is really bad, get the MW to check. It may also be so poinful because you are really, really tired, which (for me at least !) makes pain much harder to manage... try to rest and relax as much as possible, as dinky says, breathe through the pain as if they were contractions..after my first labour, when i was very tired, i found several hot, lavender baths a day, helped me relax which in turn took the edge of the pain..

is there someone at home helping out.. if so, can you sleep when baby sleeps.. Make sure you are eating plenty of food and drinking lots of water...

It will pass in a few days, and if you are breastfeeding although it hurts more it speeds up the whole process..

lots of hugs..

lardy good luck with the bf.. good idea about posting on the breastfeeding thread..

PinkTulips · 26/02/2009 09:47

hello all. not been managing to get to the pc much lately... between 'sick' dp camped out in front of it and kids needing attention every time i do have a chance i just don't seem to get around to posting.

had to bring aaron to the gp on monday as his umbilical still hadn't come off and was oozing gunk. she felt it would be better if the stunp were removed as it was stoppig everything from healing and i have to say i was fairly relieved as it kept catching in clothes and nappies. it's looking better now but still not fully healed.. at least he can have baths now though

congrats to everone who'd joined us in the sleepless, milk stained and befuddled camp.... littlesez, i get horrendous afterpains too but the others are right, the worse they are the quicker they stop as your uterus shrinks down more quickly. painkillers don't do much for me and one of the nurse on scbu said they just don't for some woman and recommended just using heat to soothe them a bit.

forgotton everything else i was going to say

MrsY · 26/02/2009 10:02

herb thanks for the advice on warming bottles... I'm in my pre-pregnancy stuff already, but then I don't have CC scar.

lardy I thought the breastfeeding people at the Sally Army church in town were great - try and get the older looking woman. On a wednesday from 12-2, I think. I ended up calling labour ward too about madam's poos, they said as long as there are enough wees, it's ok, and often happens when milk comes in.

Calico1 · 26/02/2009 10:11

Hi all

Lardy - that sounds like my experience on days 3 and 4. We're getting a bit better now (day 7) as she is staying on the boob for more then 10 mins at a time but it is exhausting. She got a reprieve from having to go into hosp as her weight hadn't gone down but she is being weighed again today and has to have put on an ounce otherwise we're going to have to be re-admitted. She seems a bit more settled but I have been feeding her literally all day and night so if she is still not putting on weight I am going to have to swap to formula. Her nappies aren't v wet so that is a bit of a concern but she is pooing....

Congratulations to the latest batch of new mums too - more lovely names!

McDreamy · 26/02/2009 10:14

Lardy this happened to Abi on Monday. Had a terrible night, on and off the boob, she was crying and very unsettled. Went 24 hours without a poo after pooing about 5 or 6 times a day. I just kept trying to sooth her, fed her when I thought she wanted it and eventually in the middle of Tescos she did a knicker ripper, poo everywhere and then promptly fell asleep - she must have felt soooo much better. Not sure if that will help but just wanted to reassure you

lardybump · 26/02/2009 10:46

He has just had a poo.... Lots of it and bright yellow. isnt the colour change related to my milk, does that mean he is getting milk?

Going to clinic next week MrsY just a shame I missed it this week.

catstar · 26/02/2009 11:14

Hello Ladies - I'm missing Mumsnet! Just haven't managed to make the time to get on here so no chance of catching up with everyone, but can I just say a general welcome to all the new arrivals and good luck to all those still waiting.

Samuel is now in his 5th day and has established his own routine of being asleep all day and awake all night. Feeling more tired than I thought possible - yesterday was terrible and I felt quite panicked a couple of times. He's not a great feeder and at the moment I'm expressing and bottle feeding EBM which weems to be helping both of us. It looks like I might have got myself another chunderer so the washing machine is on constantly!!

My mum is staying tonight so I'm really looking forward to maybe getting more than 3 hours (that's on average what I've had since Friday night!).

Finding it really hard trying to keep everyone happy and having no time for me, but chocolate and cuddles with Sam and Little O are keeping me going ! It's all worth it!

Right, better get going but hope to start getting myself back on Mumsnet soon!!!

Guitargirl · 26/02/2009 11:30

Hi everyone, I used to be on this thread at the beginning but then kind of 'fell off', have lurked though and thought I'd pop in to say congratulations to everyone and welcome to all the new arrivals!

DS is now 5 weeks old, was born by elective section weighing an eye-watering 9lb 6oz (thank goodness for caesareans!). We are doing fine although I am still sore - not helped by running around after DD and lifting her, etc. I think she's feeling it a bit bless her and has been quite tantrummy although am not sure how much her change in behaviour is down to her age (2) or arrival of her new baby brother...

Anyway, all the best to everyone and good luck to those still waiting!

Cocodrillo · 26/02/2009 11:30

Had my elective last Friday, so just checking in to update the arrivals list! I have a DS. I didn't think I could make them .

If you'd asked me a week ago I'd probably have said I secretly hoped for another girl, but I am besotted with my lovely chunky DS.

He'd turned breech again, foot first, at 39 weeks, so glad I went for a CS.

Have massive amounts of bruising though, and MW has put the fear of bejeesus in me by saying I could start pouring blood through my wound randomly if the build-up of blood gets "too heavy". Plus have enormously mangled right tit from poorly orchestrated breast-feeding. Oh, and really swollen feet so have still got my compression socks on in case I get a DVT. So all in all a bit fed up. My PN body scares me.

aarons bellybutton had dried blood in it when i cleaned it earlier... not sure if that warrants bringing him back to the docs or not though. it's never ending with this baby!

MrsY · 26/02/2009 12:46

Hi catstar - love the pics of Sam on fb. Hope you get a good night's sleep tonight. It's a bit hellish isn't it? Is DH off work? if so, make sure you get a nap in during the day.

Congrats coco love the name. Sorry to hear about pn health woes. Midwives are great, aren't they. Nothing like them for keeping you calm and putting yours fears to rest!

Sorry - madam's hungry. Will catch up later...

MrsY · 26/02/2009 12:48

Quickly - PT, Merry's had that as well. MW said was normal. Just wipe with cotton wool and pat dry.
