mumoverseas · 23/02/2009 07:41

morning all,
didn't manage to get on yesterday and now there are loads of new babies!
congratulations to calico, catstar, mentalpup, neerly/now3 and pinkbabybump lots of lovely names.

calico, so glad you managed to push for your elective CS and it wasn't as bad as you'd feared. So glad you didn't end up with a 'normal' delivery and hope your back is ok. Sorry DS is ill though and hope he gets better soon.,

PT at your husband for you and all the other lazy DH's/DP's.

laidback, poor little Mabel, its so hard when LO's get ill when they are so young. I hope she only has a very mild form of CP's and is soon better.

DC3 and DC4 are both still under the weather with bad coughs/colds. Bloody stupid bearing in mind the temperature a few days ago was 31 degrees. We went to a day trip to the Riyadh zoo yesterday. They don't often hold family days there so it was a good opportunity to go and 3 buses full of us western wenches and kids went from our compound. Usually at the zoo and other places like that it is ladies only (with young children) or men only but yesterday it was open to everyone so I was able to take DS1 along (15 years) to help out with DC3 and DC4. Hardly Chessington zoo but DD loved it.

Took Harrison to the medical centre this morning as he is still not feeding well and he has lost weight since he was born (only a few ounces) so really need to get him feeding properly. Keeping at the b/f but need to give him more top up bottles. We are hoping that his poor feeding is more to do with his cough/cold rather than his tongue tie but have managed to get an appointment to see a paeditrician next week. Off to Dharahan (a slightly nicer part of Saudi near the sea) at lunchtime today as DH working up there for two days and then we can take the DC to the beach at the weekend before returning to Riyadh. Probably won't have internet up there so won't catch up til Friday when we return and no doubt lots of news to catch up on.
Oh, a word of warning to anyone who has had a recent CS. DON'T overdo it! I overdid it the last few days and my scar was really sore so got it checked out and have 'popped open' a bit. No need for further stitches as its already started to heal again but a bit wonky now. Oh well, I was never going to wear a bikini again/do playboy photoshoot anyway

Good luck to anyone due imminently x

littleboysblue · 23/02/2009 08:39

Morning all.
MrsY I feel a bit guilty too because Luke sleeps alot too and I leave him unless e's awake, but you hold and hug Merry when she feeds and just before she falls asleep again. In a couple of weeks, she'll be awake more and more.
I don't know how much they can respond to anything at this age, but all I'm saying is you don't want her to get used to being held/rocked to sleep or you may face a nightmare teaching her to be on her own iyswim. The way I see it is if they never know any different...........
I have been told I can be a bit hard on my dc's but that's either from my child free friends or my parents so not taking those comments too seriously.
I'll hold Luke when he's awake as I'm now trying to encourage that, and when he has milk and when he is distressed but Ive also got other things to do so he needs to learn how to be on his own for a bit. I did the same with ds1,.

I'm taking Luke off the infacol and switching to dentinox colic drops. The infacol is as I suspected too strong for him too and he keeps spitting it out and screaming.
I'm supposed to go to baby clinic today to have his hearing tested but might do that next week.
Hpe everyone else is ok today. Am trying to see what time the earliest I can get everyone out so having my toast whilst on here, better dash though. See ya!

Pempe · 23/02/2009 09:17

Hello everyone, just popped on to see how you're doing - congratulations to all of you who have produced babies in the last few days :-)

I am starting to feel more sane, Harry is brilliant and I'm blown away by how much I actually like spending time with him IYKWIM. No tears for 3 days now (from me), been out for a walk every day for the past 4 days (absolutely not the done thing here, mothers and babies aren't supposed to leave the house for 40 days after the birth, and believe it or not, strangers do tell me off...). I am having to put up with members of my extended in-law family dropping by to see the baby at all hours, not caring whether they wake me up from a much-needed nap and staying for hours, expecting cakes and coffees. I would love to tell them to sod off and leave us alone for a few weeks, but it's just another example of the culture difference here.

Also the breastfeeding is a million times better. I'm soooo glad I decided to stick with it and have now almost completely cut out the bottles, but can completely understand people who decide to switch to formula. Nobody warned me that BF would be this difficult, emotionally and physically.

it's freezing cold here (about -2 at the moment ) so no walk for us today.

Sorry if this is a question that could be answered by reading the thread but when are you lot planning on introducing evening routine, e.g. bath, story, bed? Is 3 weeks v v early?

dinkystinky · 23/02/2009 10:34

Morning all.

Questionkid - sorry to hear about your C-sec wound being infected; as you said, one more thing you dont need. Dont worry about Alexander being up between 2 and 5 (all babies do this!) - it will get better; just get sleep in when Alexander does (or if you cant sleep, just veg out on the sofa at the very least) during the day and take it really easy until your csec site is healed.

MrsY - I love cuddling Danny, especially in bed in the middle of the night. DS1 was a baby who needed to be held alot (traumatic delivery, in a lot of pain)during the days but was sleeping swaddled in his own room at 3 weeks; I think you just do what works for you. I loved cuddling DS1 (and was told I'd be creating a rod for my own back etc by MWs, HVs etc) but he was a little baby for such a little time, and as soon as he started being mobile (rolling everywhere at around 4 or 5 months) he didnt want to be cuddled any more (and now is a totally independent soul who only wants cuddles when ill or its his bedtime or he has an ulterior motive - like trying to get something from a high shelf or getting out of walking for abit!). Danny only gets quality cuddle time in when DS1 is out and about or sleeping though as DS1 is being a little clingy still and needing alot of mummy attention and quality time; we've decided now is a good time to start reintroducing potty training to DS1 (slipped by the wayside while he was ill; had a little friend over on Saturday who was potty trained and he's now interested again) so he's getting positive reinforcement with all the attention.I figure we're doing about 3 washes a day as it is, so may as well do the potty training while in intensive washing mode! Hope you get everything you need at mothercare today.

MoS - ouch re your csec wound; hope it heals ok. Have a lovely time at the beach and hope the paed appointment helps with Harrison's tongue tie.

Pempe - its lovely to hear you so loved up with Harry! Hmm, the extended relatives sound really rather annoying but am sure they're all massively in love with Harry too. You're right - breastfeeding is hard in so many ways and definitely a bit of an emotional rollercoaster and something that needs to be learnt, but when and if you do crack it, it does feel like you've scaled a mountain or something! I dont think 3 weeks is too early to start introducing a bedtime routine - basically introduce it when you feel up to it. I think we introduced DS1's bedtime routine at about 3 or 4 weeks - cluster feed for hours, bath, quick massage, feed again and into cot at around 9ish. As he got older and his feed times moved, we brought the bed time forwards to 8 then to 7.30. Just do what works for you. DS2 hasnt had a bath yet as he has really dry skin (I expected it with DS1 who was uberoverdue but not with Danny who was a week early - and Danny's dry skin seems worse than Josh's ever was) so we're just topping and tailing and olive oiling him up several times a day at the moment - hopefully we'll be able to start bathing him next week if his skin clears up by then.

Laidback - believe me, I feel a bit like a milk fountain at times! Am getting through the breast pads like nobody's business. I remember when I was feeding DS1 out and about and he bobbed off, I managed to spray a passerby with milk several times

dinkystinky · 23/02/2009 10:35

P.s. MrsY - re the runners and waddlers list: I think America has had her little boy (Leo, 3.3kg from memory). Think she posted the news a few days before her due date; maybe when you were still in hospital?

littleboysblue · 23/02/2009 10:51

Pempe Good to hear how well you're doing.
I started bedtime routine with Luke last night, he had bath, was dressed, fed and put in his basket in our bedroom and I read him a few pages of a story while he drifted off. He will be 3 weeks tomorrow.

TO ALL INFACOL MUMMY'S AND BABY'S
I've moved onto dentinox colic drops and wind is coming up great, I'm not even patting him, just holding him against me, it's working for him so much better than infacol and you can put it straight in the bottle so no wrestling to get a syringe in his mouth

dinkystinky · 23/02/2009 11:05

Great to hear that the dentinox is doing the trick LBB. Am drinking camomile tea by the bucket load and that seems to be helping a little bit with Danny's wind issues.

Questionkid · 23/02/2009 11:33

Well I went up to the GP this morning and he seems to think my wound is ok. He felt the lump I've found and said he didn't think it was going to burst through (ugh!!) and wasn't concerned. So he sent me on my way and I guess I just need to carry on taking it easy. MOS - I'll definitely take heed of what you said about not overdoing it, I wouldn't want to cause the lump to burst. Ah well, still no cleaning etc to be done by me, what a shame!

Thanks for the Infacol/Dentinox tip LBB, we've just started using Infacol and although Alex screws his face up when you put it in his mouth he does swallow it and it does seem to help him a lot. But it's good to know there's an alternative if he starts spitting it out or it doesn't work anymore.

We had a better night last night (I think the Infacol really helped him to feel more comfortable), he went off to sleep at about 9, woke at 1 and 5 for a feed. So we got a reasonable amount of sleep. Unfortunately he was wide awake again at 6.30 but I don't suppose we can complain. He's now out for the count so I'm taking the opportunity to have some 'me' time on the sofa.

Congrats to all the ladies with new babies.

swampster · 23/02/2009 11:50

nkweto - Jacob is awaiting inspection by our mutual friend!

swampster · 23/02/2009 11:56

LBB - I'm a completely non-routine, AP-type. I hardly ever put Jacob down - I love cuddling him. If I have to do stuff he is in a sling. Someone once told me that the womb lasts for 18 months, nine months in and nine months out and I'm happy to go with that. He's settled into a routine of a sort - loads of cluster feeding in the morning, loads of sleeping during the day (I often have to wake him up for feeds), loads of cluster feeding in the evening/night. He goes to bed when I do (generally around midnight), and he wakes up once at about 4 or 5am for a feed. Suits me.

littleboysblue · 23/02/2009 12:15

swampster That sounds good, especially if it works for you. I've had Luke in the sling around the house a few times when he clearly just wants a cuddle so I am still hands free to deal with ds and that's been good, it just goes to show how everyone has their own ways doesn't it?

God, I hope I haven't made myself sound like I don't ever want to touch my children
Luke's asleep now after half an hour of ds1 showing him where his nose is and lots of toys and teddy's being shown to him, very sweet.
We're now having lunch before we head off to see mw and if not too cold, we might stop at the park on the way home.

littleboysblue · 23/02/2009 12:26

Hahaha. Ds1 has just yelled at me "Done!" Think that means he wants to come out of his high chair now and not eat that last bit of kiwi.

LittleMissNorty · 23/02/2009 13:45

Afternoon all

Congratulations to all the new mum's since my last post - the names are lovely.

Can't believe my LO is 3 weeks old today.....6lb 13oz and birth and 8lb 4oz this morning .

Struggling with nights though like everyone else and finding it especially hard to deal with a toddler....going from 1 to 2 has been a bit of a culture shock for me....I'm so tired!

Sorry, have just skimmed the thread to catch-up....QK...you may have a haematoma under your scar (I have a huge one) which is basically a big blood clot which dissolves over time.

Neeerly3 · 23/02/2009 14:01

hello all - day 3 of Charlie's little life, and he's sleeping like a baby i.e. all day but not at night! We;ve just bathed him for the first time, he's all clean and fluffy bless him. Still not feeding from the right boob, but I have just pumped 2oz from it, so that should be enough for a feed during the night courtesy of DH - he feels so helpless at 2am while I am struggling to get Charlie latched on the right yet again and he's screaming, my boobs are squirting and I'm crying, so bought a tommee tippee hand pump and hoping to try him on a bottle tonite.

Well the laxatives have kicked in, but the Farmers are still very sore, tbh I think thats the main thing getting me down at the mo, not the flaky feeding. I can't sit in a comfy position to feed, I can't go out for a walk with him, it takes about 20 mins to go to the loo and a whole pack of baby wipes, it's just one more thing thats stressful about the first few days of having a new baby. I hope it gets better soon, I will have to go it alone next week and I planning to get out the house at least once a day.

Congrats to all the new babies I missed while I was having mine. Birth story still hazy, I will read my notes and see if it comes back to me!

littleboysblue · 23/02/2009 14:51

Neerly3 sorry you're having toilet probs. I was really bad after ds1, to help I got a tub of vasaline and covered myself back there which eased anything on the way out and put some on toilet paper when wiped, it really helped as I found baby wipes stung a bit.

I need to talk disposable nappies again. This time for baby. Am using pampers new baby, their weight says up to 11lbs and he is 8lbs 10oz, but he's in 1 for an hour and is soaked through! Maybe it's me not puttimg them on right as had this prob with ds1 a while ago. ~I am doing them tight enough and making sure his willy is pointing down, the nappies don't seem full what should I do? Go up a size?

Update on my insides.......
Saw mw at post-natal clinic, there is still lots of rebound pain, and she also thinks it's connected to apendix and says post natally I'm fine so is sending me back to labour ward to see a surgeon

winemakesmummyclever · 23/02/2009 15:50

Hi guys,

It feels like a lifetime since I've had the time to post on here. I think I have missed entire threads ! Have finished 2/3 of uni work but am treating myself to a couple of weeks off (and am not actually going into uni for the rest of the year) now that the little man is here.

First of all, congratulations to everyone who has had their baby already and positive vibes for all those still waiting for them to make an appearance. Good luck to all of you

Isaac Alexander arrived safe and sound last Tuesday morning. Not really much to tell re delivery as was planned cs. Pootled up to theatre at 10.10, dh's colleague did my spinal, and Isaac arrived crying his lungs out at 10.49. Had a little cry as it was so much better than the awful silence we had with ds 1's emergency section (ds 1 needed resus for a good few minutes, but was/is fine thank god!) Was very hypotensive, itchy and sick post-op, but a small price to pay for such a precious and beautiful gift. Came home the day after and have been trying to get into some kind of routine ever since. Managed to update FB in hospital but phone wouldn't post here, hence the tardiness of my post .

Ds 2 is a lovely wee chap and ds1 is great with him, though I think he has now realised that this little person is here to stay. Have found that I have forgotten so much of what ds 1 was like as a newborn. Still fielding loads of visitors, so don't feel we've plateaued into any kind of normality yet.

I'm off to try and catch up with at least the last few pages and get back in the loop. Have a good day and a peaceful night everyone

littleboysblue · 23/02/2009 16:12

Hiya wmmc Glad everything went well for you and your ds1 is being so good, makes it so much easier doesn't it?
Lovely name too.

dinkystinky · 23/02/2009 16:18

Congrats WMMC and welcome to Isaac! Glad it was a nice smooth birth for you...

LMN - wow, DS's weight gain is great!!

Neerly - look into hiring a valley cushion to sit on (cushions everything down below). Good for stitches AND piles. NCT hire them out and are also places online which will hire them to you for 2 weeks. Mine has been great for my stitches - can now sit without it so is going back this week. Your experience with Charlie must be a million miles from your experience with the twins. Hope the armers recede soon.

dinkystinky · 23/02/2009 16:19

LBB - I'm on huggies newborn - they dont seem to leak as much.

littleboysblue · 23/02/2009 16:27

Thanx dinky I've been using pampers because Tescos keep sending me coupons for £1 or £2 off, which is why I've been buying them. Think I've got some coupons for Huggies too though, so will give them a go when this pack runs out and it won't be long if I have to keep changing him that frequently! Is a PITA though as he keeps waking up wet through and not happy about it!

littleboysblue · 23/02/2009 16:27

Any news on littlesez?

littleboysblue · 23/02/2009 16:28

And rani It was starting for her too wasn't it? Fingers crossed they're both with their baby's now

pluto · 23/02/2009 17:05

At last I have found a moment to reconnect with MN! Albert is having a very sleepy day so my bobs are sore and ready to explode - I think I'm going to have to wake him to get some relief! he'll be furious though - he finds it hard to get a latch when I get myself into this swollen state.

All is going well here, largely because DH is at home for three weeks and taking really good care of us all (one week half term and then 2 weeks paternity). I'm quite anaeminc (iron copunt of 8.3 - should be 10) so taking iron tablets and drinking floridex. Al is also on the infacol but I'll rmember the tips about dentinox. Thanks for the feedback on the dirty nappies - he's providing more of these now - usually twice a day and the point someone made about there being less waste on breast milk makes sense, as well as his stomach being ablwe to contain more because of his size. HV is coming on Friday so I'm looking forward to having him weighed. CMW's doesn't have scales so he hasn't been weighed since birth. Christmas turkey anyone?

MOS - good point about taking it easy post CS. My wound seems to be OK but I don't really like having to look at it!

Well done on all the new babies and lets get the remaining ones out soon
