Congratulations Neerly3 , Calico1, PinkBabyBump, Catstar and WMMC !!

WMMC glad to hear that the birth went well...

llb, another vote for Huggies newborn (size 1 not 2 though) here, our free pampers leaked terribly.. as did the huggies size 2, even though technically she should be able to wear both sizes..

... also i hope they sort out your insides out soon, it all sounds really uncomfortable..

Dinky you must be great as producing milk! Sometimes i just feel empty ... DD is putting on weight so she must be getting some milk from somewhere..

laidback went to the GP's today to see the HV.. asked about cpox vacination and they basically said 'no'.. which is a shame as maybe i am being a coward but i really dont want adult cpox ..

QK keep taking advantage of those rests..

MrsY we had a steriliser disaster with DS1 but it was all my fault. My first day flying solo.. and i was doing really well until i decided to boil the pump instead of sterilising it.. put it on the stove and then fell asleep on the bed with DS... got woken up by the fire alarm and the smell of melting plastic.. found the whole pump system melted into the bottom of my best pot.. had to replace both !!! my mum and DH still like to remind me of that incident once in a while..

MOS take your own advice and get some rest in

swampy hope you all had a good day..

dinkystinky · 23/02/2009 18:08

Nkweto - I think you must be producing plenty of milk if Alexandra is putting on weight - you just have a much more civilised let down I have empty feeling times too (generally late afternoon) - Danny seems much happier feeding at those times You'd be amazed at how many women have done the boiling the pump to death thing on the stove - you're the fifth person who has told a story along those lines in recent days!

Pluto - glad to hear that Al is doing well and producing the poos more regularly now. Bet he's piling on the weight nicely.

laidbackinengland · 23/02/2009 18:18

nkweto - you could get it done privately if you want to ? Not sure about how much it would cost though.

nkweto · 23/02/2009 18:44

Dinky LOL.. glad to hear that there are others out there who have done the same!

Laidback I was actually thinking that earlier.. may investigate further

pluto 2 dirty nappies a day sounds like pretty good going...

Right I must get on with bedtime hour.. i am being very lazy this evening

swampster · 23/02/2009 19:22

nkweto, I had a lovely time. Apparently your baby is bigger than mine.

If you do develop the dreaded pox, get yourself some acyclovir (antiviral stuff) quick - like within 24 hours.

It is safe to take while breastfeeding. factsheet thing here.

And some info from Dr Sears:

Medications to help decrease or shorten the illness:
Acyclovir is an antiviral medication that has some effect against chickenpox. If started within 24 hours from the onset of rash, it can shorten and lessen the illness. It is not, however, recommended for routine use in normal, healthy children because its benefit is often not very significant.

Acyclovir is recommended to be used for people who are at higher risk of having a severe case of chickenpox such as people over 12 years old, adults, people with immune deficiencies, or people on oral or inhaled steroid medication.

If you have been exposed, and think you may qualify for acyclovir, see your doctor before you break out to discuss this, and to have a prescription ready to fill at the first sign of rash.

herbgarden · 23/02/2009 19:39

Sorry haven't got time to night to read all the posts

MrsY with DS I melted the bottles twice in the micro - was trying to be a bit too multitasking.....they're not cheap either are they !

Congrats on all the new babies !!

QK Keep an eye on your wound and go back if you're not sure -I'm on my second blast of antib's and have been swabbed just in case there's a bug there that needs a diff anti -b. My wound is much more uncomfortable than last time and not healing as well - but I'm hoping this might do the trick.

We're having Pampers newborn leaks too - I thought it was because DD's legs are like a chickens so I couldn't get the nappy round tight enough - just bought a pack of 50 odd so need to use them(they were all on offer in Tesco's at the w'end)...I always use Tesco own brand with DS as they were the only non-leakers......

Anyone else got a grumpy newborn who grizzles at 5pmish onwards ?? DH and I were just remembering that DS was the same - he'd just be miserable. DD has a nap late afternoon then we feed her about 5ish and she's just grumpy. She calms down in the bath a bit but DS gets a bit p**d off as he can't hear "his telly" through the moaning !!

Off to bed soon - will check in tomorrow.
Night all !

Apologies for butting in

I read (lurk on!) this thread as was due in Feb myself (now have DS, three weeks old ) but found the thread too late to join in so just read (lurk) from afar...

Just wanted to say to QuestionKid - I had an EMCS and developed a lump under one side. It did turn out to be a localised infection, I was prescribed Metronidazole (I think's that's how its spelt) and am pleased to say it cleared up a treat. Hopefully yours won't go to this but if it does there is
treatment. HTH. PS my scar now settled back to how it was before, no long lasting damage.

swampster · 23/02/2009 21:05

Heylittlelady - welcome on board - never too late to join. If you're a Fab Febber, you're a Fab Febber! When we all finally move to the post-natal board you'll have to come with.

pinkspottywellies · 23/02/2009 21:21

Pleased I'm not the only one having issues with Pampers then, was starting to think I must be putting them on wrong, herb Luke's legs are quite thin too.
I've also found that tesco own brand are working best with ds1, pampers are just too small to cover his giant bum! I did buy a pack of tescos own new baby and they have some front putting the words super soft on that packet!
herb sorry dd has rough evenings, that time of day is when you def don't need it isn't it? We haven't got that yet, it's classic colicky time isn't it? Ds1 would scream from about 2pm onwards.
Heylittlelady Hello. Congrats on the arrival of your ds. Don't feel it's too late to join, the more the merrier

So, went back to labour ward as advised when dp got home from work, had 2 hour wait which is nothing against the 9 hours I was there last week. Anyway, doc came after reading my notes, I gave her a bit of background about what's been happening, told her about the tenderness and rebound pain that I even had this afternoon, she had a feel and there was nothing, no discomfort, no pain, and none of me half off the bed when she took her hand away. Weird. The doc says it's either bladder getting back to normal after some nasty infections or ligament strain from pregnancy......so was told to go home, it definately isn't apendix or anything serious and uterus is back to normal size.
What a giant waste of time that was. I'm not going back either, I can't keep spending hours up there away from the boys.

littleboysblue · 23/02/2009 21:35

PSW Congratulations, glad it was a nice quick one for you and you're all doing well.

Great news about chilled too, timing sounds handy .

lardybump · 23/02/2009 22:10

Hello ladies.... Guess what..... I had my baby on Saturday!!! I had a baby boy whom we have called Owen Francis. He was born at 11:25 on Saturday night and weighed in at 8lb 12 oz..... I am in love with my little man and I will update facebook with a pic soon....

Birth was so unbelievable......

Waters broke at 10.30 Friday they were green so went in to be checked (only to be told that they were clear ) sent home as no labour pains but told that if no progress by Sunday then I would be induced....

So we came home and I had a bath and we went to bed at about 2 in the morning. By 4 I was getting contractions but they were so irregular that we knew we were in for the long haul (or so we thought)..... Anyway I came downstairs as couldn?t sleep through contractions but didn't want to wake the house..... Woke dp up at 6 to put on my tens machine only to find that it was not all there..... So at 9 shot down the town to get new one and then back home to sleep... I slept until midday and decided that we needed to get active to move things along so we went to a local lake to feed the ducks with some friends... It was 3 in the afternoon at his point and while the contractions themselves were now getting very painful they were still only coming about every 20 mins or so.. Went back to our friends for tea and while there the contractions were getting so painful I told dp that I wanted to go to hospital to get checked out (they were still only every 30 mins at this point.) So at 7.30 we dropped dd at nannies and went to hospital where I started to get contractions about 5 mins apart....... However got into delivery suit and they stopped for about 1/2 hour.

Lovely midwife did a trace to check on baby and contractions kicked in again at full intensity but again only every 30 mins or so. She wouldn't send me home as after each contraction babies hb decelerated alarmingly. She called the dr to check the trace and she wanted me to stay on trace but dp should go home as it would be hours yet because the contractions, while strong, were not labour, this was at 10:55. I told the MW that when the contractions came I was struggling with the pain on just the TENS machine, she said she wanted me to take some pethadine and sleep as we still had a long way to go and off she went to get it...... I should add that I had not been examined at this point because if your waters have broken they won?t examine you until they are sure you are well on your way because if they do and you are not dilated they would have to induce you because of risk of infection!!!

So midwife is out of the room (thinking I am a wimp I expect) and then all hell breaks loose.... I am just saying my tearful goodbyes to dp when I am hit with the biggest contraction so far which lasts for 5 mins... baby?s hr drops to 70 beats per min and I feel that I need to poo..... I scream for dp to get mw back, she takes one look at the trace and examines me only to find that I am 5 cm's dilated. She kindly takes back the pethadine and gets me some gas and air... Time is now 5 past 11. I am then hit by one contraction straight after another and an intensity that I have never felt before. 5 mins later I tell her I need a poo and she checks me again and is shocked to find I am fully dilated (yes I went from 5 cm to fully dilated in 5 mins....) However there is a problem with babies hb so she calls the registrar who is the same lady that delivered dd.... I am now having a single contraction with an urge to push but nothing is happening. They can see babies head and cannot work out why it isn't moving.... Then at 20 past babies hp drops again and registrar shouts that there is something wrong with baby and we need to get it out now. So with legs in stirrups (not good with SPD) and with the help of venturous babies head comes out, the cord is wrapped around the neck tightly two times. Lovely registrar sorts this out in seconds and I deliver baby.

Baby is put on my tummy and dp tells me we have a boy... However he is not crying and is very cold and pale so off he goes to more midwifes........ I panic and scream the hospital down demanding they make him cry because there is something wrong with him.... .. Eventually dp is given the baby and registrar delivered the placenta 5 mins later...

Both me and Owen were very sore (I have second degree tear and a tear on my labia sp?) and in a state of shock as it had been so quick... DP couldn't believe he had almost missed it.... But all elated now our family is complete.....

We had to stay in for 24 hours due to risk of infection but home now. Owen has ingested a lot of mucus so has been very sick but is feeding well (my poor boobies).. DD loves him and won?t leave him alone which is lovely... So over all we are the luckiest family alive... And both my children?s lives have been saved by the same lovely registrar.

PS Owens head was 37cm at birth!!!!!!!!!!! OUCH

thehouseofmirth · 23/02/2009 22:30

Evening all!

Been trying to pop on all day but DS1 has had a rather demanding day and with only 4.5 hours of sleep last night a nap took priority while he was at nursery this afternoon. I did manage to take him with DH though and used my new Hug a Bub for the first time which was fab and so much more snuggly and secure than the wilkinet.

Congratulations on all the new arrivals and comiserations on ll the various associated ailments and injuries.

Still have the sleepiest baby on the planet and he is only feeding for a short while before slipping back into oblivion. Having him weighed tomorrow so will see if the snackings working or not. DS1 was a snacker but his was more to do with efficiency than laziness!

Think I was feeling a bit hormonal today and also quite worried about whether any of the damage to my under carriage might cause long term problems. It's also rubbish feeling so battered and bruised when there's so much to do and I had been looking fowrard to being able to play properly with DS1 without a huge bump to slow me down. So been quite teary today. DH being not as helpful as he could be either.

On the subject of nappies, how often are second/third time mummies changing them? with DS1 I religiously changed him every two hours but poor DS2 is being a bit neglected in this department.

Another fan of holding and cuddling here. Can't help it, babies are just toooo snuggly to be put down and they'll be fighting us off soon enough. It's funny, all this talk of routines. Was only thinking this afternoon how I must get DS1 into one!

McDreamy · 23/02/2009 22:38

Wow Lardy what a birth story, congratulations and welcome baby Owen

Congratulations to all the new arrivals since I have last been on - there have been quite a few! just like most of you I am quite tired at the moment, Abigail is sleeping most of the day and is less peaceful at night! But also, just like alot of you, I can't stop cuddling her! She loves to be held and I love to hold her.

The co sleeping is going well despite the restlessness. Next thing to do is to get her into reusable nappies but one thing at a time I think.

thehouseofmirth · 23/02/2009 22:39

Lardy congratulations! How scary but all's well that ends well and it sunds like you are very pleased with you little man.

LBB glad t hins are settling down. Hopefully you'll be back to normal now.

chilledmama great news! Glad it all went well; you must be so pleased it's all finally over!

lardybump · 23/02/2009 23:07

I have added a couple of phots to the facebook group

swampster · 24/02/2009 00:14

What a lot of new babies! Congratulations Neerly3, Calico1, PinkBabyB, catstar, winemakesmummyclever, pinkspottyw, chilledmama, lardybump - hope I haven't missed any out.

thehouseofmirth · 24/02/2009 04:42

Are you lot all asleep?

thehouseofmirth · 24/02/2009 05:05

Honestly! Tarran & I are up learning Italian with the BBC...

littleboysblue · 24/02/2009 07:24

Morning all.
Congrats Lardy
thom I'm changing Luke mostly every 1-2 hours because he is coming through the nappies but as a general rule it's just with every feed which is 3-4 hourly. I think that's enough, is it?

I feel really badnow hearing everyone say how much they love holding their baby. It's not that I don't like to hold him because I obviously do, I'm just also feeling quite guilty that ds1 doesn't have me 24/7 anymore. So while Luke's asleep, as long as he's happy and settled, it's ok for me to not hold him all of the time. He seems generally quite happy anyway, he cries, but that's what babies do, it's not often, he's quite content......

littleboysblue · 24/02/2009 07:31

We are now feeding 3 hourly 3.5 at the longest, I am making up 4oz at a time. What's everyone else on? (he's 3 weeks today!)
I don't think he'll be able to take a higher quantity because he gets full of wind and after an hour of trying to get it out, he falls asleep and won't take anymore.
He's putting on weight so I should just stop worrying, right?
When he cries at the 3 hour mark, I'm not entirely sure he's hungry, it may just be wind....

herbgarden · 24/02/2009 08:56

lardy at your story and it brought a tear to my eye...I'm so glad you're all now safe and sound. Owen was on my list but DH wouldn't allow it as it's the name of an ex-boyfriend . Congrats to all the other new mummies !

HOM - I have to admit that I keep forgetting to change DD's nappy - in fact I just went up and was about to pop her down for a nap and realised that she was a bit "full" - I'm so used to DS now just being changed when he's done a poo (this is a regular occurrence....). On the subject of forgetfulness I got into bed last night and realised I'd not given DS any tea - he does get a little tea at nursery about 3.30pm but I always give him something before bed. Still, he didn't remind be so maybe he wasn't hungry .

I have DD all to myself on a Monday/Tuesday which is lovely. She just gets plonked here and there when DS is here too as he's soooo demanding so I'm glad she gets some solo time just like her brother did . Yesterday afternoon we snuggled up watching telly - I do love my peaceful Mondays. Granny keeps nipping over for a quick squeeze too (DD not me ). I find myself getting all emotional when I think she might be my last baby - I really did decide this was it when she arrived (I wanted 3, DH not keen) - but when you think about the reality I'm not sure I'll be able to chuck those baby things out so soon !

lbb - we're not getting much past 3 hours for a feed although DD is probably 7.5lbs now (she was 7lbs last week) so I can't really expect more of her. DS was about 9lbs or over at this stage and he would stretch a bit to 4 hours but generally it was nearer 3.5 hours. I'm offering 3/4 oz each feed and she might guzzle the lot but might not. I think they say about 2.5oz per lb of body weight? I changed to Dentinox too as from yesterday as another friend recommended it. She's def possetting more but that might be her getting used to the change.

I'm off into town this lunchtime - I really need a sleep but I need even more to get out of this house....Going to see if any of my work colleagues would like to do lunch

herbgarden · 24/02/2009 08:58

PS lbb forgot to say that I think it takes 3 hours for a baby to digest a feed so feeding them more often overloads their system a bit especially if they are a bit windy. I find DD takes a better feed if it's nearer 3.5 hours.......but sometimes she just can't wait (just like her mummy, hungry - need to eat NOW!)

herbgarden · 24/02/2009 08:59

A formula feed that is........
