LittleFairySmile · 25/02/2009 16:12

Oh so cute they even have a sling for dolly

Hawkmoth · 25/02/2009 16:14

I'm frightened by the choice of slings! I think it looks like something a man would like to decide about, so I will delegate this one!

LittleFairySmile · 25/02/2009 16:17

Oh don't delegate if you will wear it to. our bodies are designed differently, hubby liked holding weight in his back, it's a man thing I guess, we are designed to carry weight from shoulder to hip.

LittleFairySmile · 25/02/2009 16:17

I'm looking for a thin ring sling or pouch type to fold away small in a bag. Not too bulky, but easy to put on and use.

LittleFairySmile · 25/02/2009 16:19

Might have to go to NEC baby show just to look at slings, and the newest cloth nappies!

Hawkmoth · 25/02/2009 16:20

Maybe two slings then? I had a pouch sling last time, but threw it when we moved, I really am daft!

Sarah, I was three stone heavier than I am now with my first and I did start feeling movements at around the four month mark. I helped baby out by feeding it extra strong mints - a tube at a time!

ScummyMummy · 25/02/2009 16:21

I think you feel stuff around 18-20 weeks first time round, Sarah. Thanks for asking after my father in law. He's doing well- due to have a bypass next Wed and they're keeping him as an inpatient until he has it. I think it'sd been tougher on my mother in law in some ways as he seems quite settled and happy in hospital wheras she's in our chaotic house away from her lovely clean quiet flat and v worried about him to boot.

Is the close sling easy to put on? I think the wilkinet looks v cosy for a newborn but I'm scared that I'll be too spatially dyslexic to put it on successfully!

valz · 25/02/2009 16:28

hi ladies, sharing in the jealousy of those who can feel movements, i keep lying really still in bed at night to see if i can feel anything, i know im a bit early though, not 16 weeks til monday. think i can see a definate bump now though, it looks like a pot belly but before i could have sucked it in, that makes no difference now.

has anyone got there own droppler? ive been browsing ebay for one just to keep me content between scans, theres a sonotrax one and angelsounds brand, they seem to be the only two on it, has anyone ever used them?

Also i know i mentioned the hairy belly before but its still freaking me out, i think its getting hairier, if it was light coloured hair i wouldnt mind so much but its dark, its that bad my sis told me i should get it waxed, which i know will make it worse when it grows back-does anyone know does this fade after birth? Also i have loads of wee pimpls appearing on my chest, is this pregnancy related as i havent had them before? oh sooo many questions!!

trixymalixy · 25/02/2009 16:41

I tried a few different types of slings last time, all borrowed. I tried a huggababy which i really didn't get along with and DS screamed in. He much preferred being upright against me. The wilkinet was quite comfy, but a major faff to get on. I preferred the baybjorn as it is so easy to get on. It got really uncomfortable though as DS got a lot bigger (12 months), so if I was buying again I'd go for the one with the extra back support.

It's definitely a personal thing though so try as many as you can.

valz I got funny skin tag things on my chest that disappeared after pregnancy last time. I didn't get the hairy belly, but I don't think it would be a good idea to wax it. I'm sure it'll disappear!!

sarah76 · 25/02/2009 17:07

Valz, Re pimples and hair, I am soooo there with you. My PCOS made me extra hairy already, and I'm here to tell you, you CAN get the tummy hair waxed! Ever since I went off the nice anti-androgen pill three years ago, I've had a problem with tummy fuzz/bikini line half-way to my knees/hairy bum. There should be no problem waxing during pregnancy--other than your skin might be a bit more sensitive. Don't do what I did and start obsessively plucking the tummy hairs, I actually gave myself scars. Waxed hair doesn't grow back faster, in fact it grows back less the more you do it, and the hairs tend to appear softer/more fine when they come back. Unfortunately I can't afford my £45/month to get legs/bum/tum waxed anymore so am back to shaving when I can be bothered, and I hate it!

As for the pimples, got a bunch on my chest and back recently (thinking hormonal) and even more embarassingly, there is a giant ingrown hair/pimple type thing. . . .down there! It is so big ATM, it looks like a nipple! I'm actually quite concerned--it is hard, red and swollen....wonder how/if to approach the GP with this one???? 'Excuse me sir, but could you have a look at my spotty minge?' Oh I'd die of shame.

nuttygirl · 25/02/2009 17:28

ScummyMummy - the close sling is v easy to put on. It's basically a piece that you put over your head so that the fabric crosses in front of you (comes ready assembled for this so you just have to make sure you don't cross it behind you iyswim). Then baby goes in sitting with legs either side of where it crosses. It tightens with two ring sling fastenings - one at either side of you. There's an extra length of fabric (totally seperate) that you then wrap round you and tie to give more support around baby's bum. I liked that both dh & I could use it even though we're different heights etc.

Another one here that usually waxes and can't afford it. I have hairier legs than dh at the moment

PMSL @ "could you have a look at my spotty minge?". I have a little skin tag thing on my bits and I daren't even go about that cos I'm too hairy . I keep catching it when I wipe and panicked that my tear was splitting .

BabyBump2B · 25/02/2009 18:54

Hi All! Slightly daft question about slings but do you have to be fitted for them? and how are they with swollen breastfeeding boobs?

I have a funny little line of very dark black hairs appearing from my belly button down to my bikini line - very strange and slightly embarrassing. I've had pimple come and go too.

So sorry to hear how many other people are struggling with money and redundencies. It really sucks doesn't it? I think seeing DH so down is harder than living without the extra cash. There really isn't anything available here so we've had to come to face the thought that DH might be off work until the baby comes.

VJay · 25/02/2009 18:57

Hi, wow you lot do talk! . I've booked my 20 week scan privatly, I'm glad I've done it now, it's actually for when I'm 22 weeks, so just 8 weeks to wait. I really want to feel baby too, sometimes I think I can, but I'm sure it's just wind.
Sorry to hear about all those with money worries, it does take the shine off things.
Will pop back in tomorrow and it will probably yake me another half hour to catch up again

loopylil · 25/02/2009 19:19

ive had 2 slings a WILKINET and a MOBY D. the wilkinet was not for me and i sold but the moby d i love and my baby loved. it has a number of different ways to wrap to use as they get bigger you can breastfeed in it and even carry twins
brilliant and simple design one size fits all so not special fitting needed.

nuttygirl · 25/02/2009 19:31

The close sling and the Mei Tais are one size fits all . I bought a Hotslings puch sling last time (but Erin hated it) and that was sized...you just measured yourself think it was shoulder to hip and also your bra size and combined the two to find out which size to order.

Chrysanthamum · 25/02/2009 23:16

Ha ha trix, I could list the daft things I say and do never mind think during this pregnancy and my punctuation is bad anyway so not surprised you misunderstood.

As for slings I've tried/bought a couple and we have a big ruck sack frame carrier that a one year old can go in. We thought we'd do lots of hill walking (been twice in 13 months)

Overall, they've all given me a sore back/neck so I wouldn't buy one again but maybe I'm just a bit of a wimp.

I'm looking for a twin buggy and like the Phil n Teds too but it gets v mixed reviews. I'm now even more confused1

I told my boss my news today and she was v supportive. Big relief!

nandos · 25/02/2009 23:41

sarah76, you are soo funny re spotty minge
i thought im the only one with pimples on my chest and hair on tummy etc looks like a few ladies here experience the same thing..
guess its the hormones doing the work.
btw anyone have the same fear as me re breastfeeding? am a 1st timer and am embarassed to say this but everything else seems to grow larger(e.g hips, tummy) except my mimi. maybe im the unfortunate rare ones whose bbs doesnt grow before n during pregnancy

kitkatqueen · 26/02/2009 00:26

Thankyou to all the TMI ladies on this thread!! Just finished reading from where I left off however many days ago and PMSL!
Which was quite needed actually so

babybump Thanks for the info re doubles - I know after last time that it really has to be inline - I just wish I could find a 3 wheeler rear faceing double with 360 swivel front wheel!! But life never is perfect hey?? They'll probably bring one out the day after I buy something!! I went into mamas and papas 2day and had a proper look at the duette - it would do the job but feels a bit overkill for a toddler and a baby would be absolutley fab for twins tho - and the ex demo was reduced to £440.00 from £595.00.

I thnk the ideal for me would be the Kolcraft - but they don't ship to the uk - fortunatley i've found one on ebay so fingers crossed!! Lets hope I now don't end up bidding against someone else from on here!!! LOL!!

As for buggyboards I have had a step type (ie sitting) buggyboard for several years - In my opinion there are pro's and cons...

Con's

If toddler climbs on and you aren't holding on to the buggy - the whole lot can tip up.

You can find that you kick it with every step which is very frustrating. ( most buggies don't have long enough handles)

Nothing for child to hold onto when you begin walking - have known children to fall face 1st into roads when sitting on the board.

If buggy is rear facing the seat can interfere with the buggyboard because of the height.

buggy board can tip onto one wheel when turning round a corner - can be frightening for child.

Heavy - Hard to turn.

Pro's

If your buggy is flat folding you can normaly leave the board on when you fold it.

If you fit a seat belt / or set of reins onto the board the child can't fall off / run away and it gives you confidence to go out with a walking child because you have somewhere to put them if they throw a strop.

Much quicker than walking with a walking toddler.

Having said all that I still have one and still use it from time to time - in the right situation it's invaluable!

As for philandteds I am not overly keen - my sister got one and her dd2 had really terrible motion sickness in the bit underneath - also she was walking down a slope - lost her footing and got towed face first by the phil and teds with it on its back wheels - In my view it should have a brake that cuts in if you let go of the handle...

Uki · 26/02/2009 02:07

LOL reading all your hairy stories .
have you heard the old wives tale, your having a boy if your hairy.

i was a little bit hairy with my 2 boys, and have some fine hair again- we'll see

i had a whole site of old wives tales, that you could take a test with, but it was wrong last time,

i always wonder if there was a third sex, would people carry on less with the 'oh your haqving a ...'

HeinzSight · 26/02/2009 09:13

Uki, I had equal hairiness with all mine and have had 2 boys and 1 girl.

Morning all. Haven't posted for a little while but have been reading. Lots to catch up on! LOL at the hairy/spotty stories. Am quite hairy myself - finding it difficult to remember to make an appointment for waxing until the day I want to go and then it's all booked! Suffering a few spots too, which I've picked !

Sorry to hear of all the money woes too. Still nothing here job wise for DH either. He's applying for jobs but I think the market is saturated with cvs. He seems ok-ish at the moment. I daren't even think about him still being off when the baby comes as he will find that very hard.

Enjoying the buggy talk too. Can't justify anything new here either. We got a Phil & Teds after DS2 was born (DS1 was 22 months) and I have loved it! DS1 got a scooter for his 2nd birthday and that was more or less the last time he got in the buggy for months! Then when he started pre-school he would hop into the back seat on the way home as he was tired. I liked the fact that it was as easy to manoever as a single buggy (even with 2 boys in it), it was so comfy for DS2 as a baby in the cocoon, easy to push with 1 hand when holding the older child's hand etc etc. I'm lusting after a Vibe now but can't really justify it. I think the newer P&Ts have a brake on the handle.

We did get a buggy board for the Maclaren from the nct sale but I've never got on with it. When the baby is small and lying back in the Maclaren all the weight is too far back with the toddler holding onto the handles too - it kept tipping all the time esp when trying to get up kerbs after crossing the road. I live in London so cross roads alot! DS1 thought it was fun to ride on the board though.

Not much on the movement front here. I too lie very still in bed at night trying to feel something. Still I'm getting bigger so the bean is growing at least. Scan is a week on Monday (19+6) and am beginning to stew about whether I want to find out the sex or not. I'm really not sure how I will feel if it's DS3 as this is (prob ) my last baby.

Hope all keep well and worries start to ease up.

sarah76 · 26/02/2009 12:30

nandos, I wouldn't worry just yet about the boobs, I'm pretty sure I've read they can grow all throughout and esp at the end. I think that's why they say don't bother getting measured for nursing bras until 38 weeks. If it makes you feel better, my friend back in the U.S. was flat as a pancake and still managed to breastfeed two DCs for 6 months each! I'm a first-timer wanting to BF as well, so we can hold hands.

I know I've got a while to wait, but last night I was jiggling my belly in hopes that I'd trigger some kind of movement. DH kept yelling 'stop shaking the baby! It will move when it's ready!' As if he hasn't done silly things himself. . .a few weeks back he was putting his head between my legs and shouting 'helllllooooooo baby! This is your dada!' Had to explain it couldn't hear him yet, I think he was quite disappointed.

valz · 26/02/2009 12:41

SARAH lol at the spotty minge story, after a wax, im prone to an ingrown hair in that area too, frig they are sore.

my firend just phoned there and it was flat out baby talk, god i get sooo excited, just cannot wait for these babies to arrive, its desperate cuz i dont wanna be wishing my life away. august seems so close but yet so far!

fairygirl3 · 26/02/2009 13:09

hi,not been on for a while but all is good.find the slings a bit confusing so am thinking of going to a sling meet to get some more info.Am trying to pick a buggy but with so much choice im glad ive got a while to decide.
SARAH - lol at your hubby.
Had a bit of worry when went for my 16 week midwife check, she couldnt find heartbeat ,tears, panic, was sent to the hospital where they found it,so just to reassure others incase they have the same, its not always bad news.

May67 · 26/02/2009 13:58

LOL at hairy stories. I've been a bearded lady since DD was born 3 years ago...well I might be exaggerating slightly but I never used to get hair on my chin or stomach before she was born but since then I've had one or two dark curlies show up every month without fail!! They do seem to have got more virulent in the last few weeks too. Nice.

Has anyone else been having any circulation problems? It feels as though mine has slowed right down, and it wasn't very good to start with! Cold hands and feet and pins and needles if I sit still. I'm pretty sure I'm feeling movement which is quite cool as I'm only 15 weeks tomorrow and didn't feel DD until really late last time around.
