The other thread was too long and wouldn't let me add a new message.

I am 8+3 and as my previous m/c's have been at 9 weeks.

OP posts:

Private scans: if you google hard enough for "baby scans" and your town, you'll get loads coming up. Loads cost £90-120 for a weekday or weekend scan. I was lucky and got a booking the next day (a Saturday) for £65 with Inner Vision (www.innervision3d.co.uk). A (male) hospital sonographer who spends every other weekend doing private scans (with his teenage son as IT/admin support!). As he just books a normal hotel room I have to say I was a bit nervous at first! But it was fine. Good luck! I've had less MS today - even managed to have a shower and put the dishwasher on! Progress!

bigbang · 10/02/2009 19:00

Sails I am sorry to hear that

I wondered if anyone else has a bit of a bump yet?! Seriously, I am only 9+1 but there is something other than flab there. Pointed it out to dp last night and he confirmed I wasn't going mad, I heard you can show earlier with second babies but this is extreme! I didn't get a bump like this till at least 16/17 weeks with ds. I hope it doesn't get much bigger for another few weeks or my secret will be out. I think a trip to the shops is needed for some mat jeans as I can't do up my button! I can't be the only one?

BabyKairo · 10/02/2009 19:04

bigbang - I hugged my friend when barely 7 weeks (its my first) and she felt my bump - and she didn't even know I was TTC! My secret was out!

AprilMeadow · 10/02/2009 19:42

Sails so sorry to hear your news x

My scan yesterday was a private one at the fetal Medical Center in Harley Street. £100 for a viability scan. Money well spent as i was very worried that it might be twins.

BigBang, this is my 3rd and i have a bump of a 16/17weeker. No way of hiding this pregnancy! TBH its just the fact that my tummy muscles have run off and left me.

I had to go and buy some bigger bras today as i was suffering from 4 boob syndrome! I dread to think what my final size will be!

Sickness is STILL here and is getting very boring. I am having to eat every 30mins to try and combat the nausea but even eating isnt shifting it. I have a feeling that it is a girl as the symptoms are as they were with my dd.

bobber · 10/02/2009 20:16

I am so so sorry sails. Take really good care of yourself.

Im feeling so exhausted now - in bed by 8:30 & still feel like I've been up all night - my age is not helping I guess. Pelvis is really killing me already too - still waiting for the urgent appt from the top hosp physio following the referral from my physio a fortnight ago. Think I'll be on crutches in a week or so and am only 10 weeks 2 .

Im feeling so nervous and cant shake the feeling something is wrong - even with all the obvious symptoms. Im well past the dates of my previous mcs, but that hasnt really given me any reassurances strangely. I dont think I will believe it until I have the baby in my arms.

Take care all

peachyfox · 10/02/2009 20:55

Forevermore,
Don't apologise for wanting a scan - it's normal!
I've been paranoia central for the past 12 weeks (well, I'm twelve weeks tomorrow - IVF) and I have worn down my computer keys googling the stats - I can tell you that if you heard a hb at 6+6 (just like I did) your chances are very good (with bleeding 90%, without bleeding 95%). Of course that didn't stop me worrying so I paid for a private scan (babypremier - £95) at 10 weeks. The nurse was lovely and had all the time in the world to reassure me, listen to the heartbeat and show me how the baby was moving. And all on a huge plasma screen! Best film I've ever seen. She said I had better stop worrying and get used to the fact that I was having a baby...

We're pretty strapped for cash right now but I would have lived on beans and Pregnacare to have that reassurance!

You'd be lucky if the EPU scanned you without any spotting.

Don't give up on your friend - the disappointment of a failed IVF cycle is awful, and 3 in a row lays you pretty low I think. You may have to accept you're not the person she wants to be around right now, but I'm sure she'll be back!

Peachy

kookykid · 10/02/2009 21:12

Really envious of all your scans! I am 11 weeks tomorrow and have another week's wait before my 12 week scan. Haven't had any spotting, but can't shake the nagging worry either.

However, I only have one more day at work and then 11 days off. Hooray!

Thusnelda · 11/02/2009 10:08

I've had my booking in yesterday!
I was supposed to come to the hospital tomorrow when I'm exactly 8 weeks, but got a call yesterday from a midwife whether it was convenient for me if she came round in the afternoon! It was convenient indeed and very nice too. She dipped a paper strip in my urine sample in a smoothie bottle and took my blood pressure (both fine) and the rest was a chat about family history etc. It took about one hour and not 3 - as advertised for the hospital appointment.
She also called to make an appointment for my first scan, the 11th of March, when they will also take a blood sample.

I can understand why so many of you would want an early scan, especially after miscarriage and IVF, but I think I can just about manage without one. I do worry sometimes about finding out then that the embryo died weeks ago, but am trying not to think about it.
The thing is, I feel I am so much closer to finally having a family than just over a year ago, that having a fairly early miscarriage wouldn't seem quite such a throw back. Firstly, I'm not single anymore, secondly, the man I found is neither undergoing chemo- and radiotherapy and dying of cancer nor has a depression-related erectile dysfunction like the last two and thirdly, he loves me enough to get me pregnant! And lastly, I can get pregnant in the first place which at 37 I didn't exactly take for granted.

audreyraines · 11/02/2009 11:14

Hi Thusnelda, that is great about your midwife coming over. So lovely.

i was meant to have my booking in appt today, but i arrived at the hospital and they told me it had been cancelled! unbelievable. anyway, the home birth team has promised someone will do the booking in appt at my house by the end of the weekend, so hopefully that will go smoothly. i can't believe i wasted my babysitting morning on going to the hospital.

Snowfalls108 · 11/02/2009 11:25

Hello!
Sorry to hear about the pain bobber - how annoying.
Luckily no bump here as yet - lots of bloating though.
I had a scan this morning - so exciting. Confirmed everything, baby is 23mm long, and all healthy. Very pleased. And I got photos to take home with me!
Believing I'm pregnant now - somehow didn't seem real up until this point.

Thusnelda · 11/02/2009 11:25

Hi audreyraines,
that is annoying indeed! I'm sure they had your phone number somewhere and could have given you a call.
Let's hope the home birth team is more reliable!
Did you have a home birth with your first child? I find the thought a bit daunting to be honest and am definitely aiming for the birth centre/hospital. But I'm trying not to think about the birth too much just yet.

Thusnelda · 11/02/2009 11:29

Snowfalls that's great news!
Did you take the father along? Or will he have to make do with the photos?

Snowfalls108 · 11/02/2009 11:38

Hi Thusnelda,
nope DH had to work, so he'll have to make do with the photos - is pretty blob like at the moment, so not that much to see.
Hopefully he'll be able to make the scan in 3 weeks time.

audreyraines · 11/02/2009 11:43

snowfalls, yay for seeing your blob!

thusnelda, yes i did have a homebirth last time too and it was quite wonderful. it did take a bit of courage but i had a wonderful doula who gave me confidence in the whole process.

audreyraines · 11/02/2009 11:54

i love the homebirth midwives though, they're always so chirpy (or maybe all midwives are like that!) i totally felt better after speaking to her after being pissed about my cancelled appointment.

detoxdiva · 11/02/2009 12:31

audreyraines - I'll be picking your brains in the future as I too am hoping for a home birth - think there's a few of us that may end up doing it at home

Snowfalls - great news about the scan!

Bobber - sorry to hear you're in pain already. Have you booked your nuchal at Pinehill? I'm off there a week on Fri.

Kookykid - the next week will sson pass - good luck for your scan next week.

All well here - am still having to sleep in the afternoons when not at work (dd has been a little angel and is happy to watch cbeebies cuddled up with me for an hour while I doze!!)

silentlywondering · 11/02/2009 13:32

Still being sick, sore (.)(.) back with a vengance and bump appears to be there again so hopefully everyting is ok. Scan on Monday will tell all!

silentlywondering · 11/02/2009 13:32

Ohh and lower back is giving me trouble already!

OP posts:
pooka · 11/02/2009 14:19

That sounds positive SW.

Feeling less sick now. Still seem to have limited stomach capacity though. Boobs still bigger. But hate this last couple of weeks until the scan because (and has been the same before) have kind of got bored of waiting and in boredom comes the whole worry that has all gone wrong. My good habits (drinking much much much less caffeine for example) begin to flag because it has started to feel unreal, as it did with dd and ds. So need the positive reinforcement of a good scan. Roll on shrove tuesday. Think am just under 11 weeks now. So scan should be at just over 12 weeks. Hoping that the dates are right for the nuchal to be done accurately.

Have my midwife booking in on Friday morning. HAve changed doctor's surgeries since having had dd and ds so different team now - hospital midwives rather than the group practice. Will prob, all being well, aim for a homebirth again this time. Was supposed to have HB with ds, but ended up having to go in because no midwives and no time to wait really because was quite "precipitous" quick labour.

bobber · 11/02/2009 15:27

Snowfalls - congrats on the scan

silently - that sounds really reassuring

Detoxdiva - What a wonderful DD!. My DD is so protective of my tummy and keeps on asking if Baby is feeling ok.
I havent needed to book a nuchal at Pinehill because of my age I can have one at the Lister on the NHS, which is a week on Monday when Im 12w2. BUT Im still considering a private one if the measurements are worrying at all - you dont get the full results for 7-10 days at the Lister, which leaves it too tight for a retest. Im hoping they will say on the day if any measurements are a bit suspect and then I'll try to book a scan for FMC in London as Im desperate to avoid a CVS if at all possible.
You've got your booking in at the Lister soon if I remember correctly? I still havent got one due to admin probs (aarrgghh!!) - and Im meant to have had an early consultant appt - yikes!!

detoxdiva · 11/02/2009 15:50

Yes Bobber - am there a week on Mon too for my booking & blood tests etc

MsBrandybuck · 11/02/2009 16:10

Had my early scan this morning and there is definitely something there with a heartbeat measuring 7wks 4 days! So relieved it wasn't all in my imagination .

StealthPolarBear · 11/02/2009 16:21

Hi everyone
Sept 09 dropped off my list!
Sails, so sorry You have really had an emotional time recently, look after yourself

forevermore · 11/02/2009 18:20

thanks for the sanity check peachyfox and you're right about my friend I am sure. I keep changing my mind about the early scan.

anyway...i for one have one pair of jeans left that fit but have been eating for England since christmas and not felt up to going to the gym when i used to go 3 times a week so feeling very guilty!

I had gestational diabetes with 1st pregnancy so I should be more careful really. Is it true you get bigger quicker with second pregnancy or is that just an old wifes tale?
