Looby My dh had a colleague who had the snip as soon as his wife got pregnant and once the baby was born he regretted his decision, because he didn't realise what a great feeling it would be to be a dad and wanted more. They tried to reverse the op, but couldn't. So you there's a good chance your dh might change his mind once he's actually holding his very own lo. It's so different from being with some one else's child. You should hear my dh when he's with his friends that have children. They're just like women, all that bayb/toddler chat!

You know, I've always thought that the biggest gift you can give your child is a brother or a sister. They'll have a friend that will be with them for life, which is much more valuable than any toy in the world. And I keep repeating the mantra when my ds(7) complains that he hasn't got exactly the same as x or y at school and that we're terrible parents for not giving him his own telly/unlimited TV time/computer time/...

Momino · 08/02/2009 22:26

ooh, i love being a mum as well! though it is very, very hard work, it is so rewarding and - i didn't think it possible - i fall more in love with my 2 daughters with each day.

about cravings: i do feel like I crave more sweets like I did in my last pregnancies (both girls). about dairy, I craved it in the first 3-4 months but don't as much now so not sure how much it could mean another girl. This pregnancy does feel so like the others I will be surprised if it isn't a girl. we'll see !

Belgianchocolates · 08/02/2009 22:27

With my ds I had a pizza craving. It's now his favourite food in the world! I also had a real sweet tooth with him and so does he. With my dd I actually went off sweets and funnily enough she's not all that bothered about sweets and often prefers an apple to a biscuit. Funny how it goes, isn't it?

Belgianchocolates · 08/02/2009 22:28

Right, off to bed now. I've got to be up at 6 tomorrow.

Tummum · 08/02/2009 22:29

Evening all. I have been laughing at all of the rugby comments. I too have a welsh DH who is taking over the telly with Rugby most weekends. Our DD1 (4.7) calls rugby "come on" because her daddy shouts that at the telly whenever rugby is on(!) She also asked if the teams were "giving each other a hug" when there was a scrum... very amusing.

We are now debating welsh boy names... any suggestions?

llareggub · 08/02/2009 22:39

My DS's middle name is Iestyn, and we are currently weighing up Aneirin and Osian for this baby. I also have a soft spot for Ianto but not sure I'd use it unless it was a nickname.

pulapula · 08/02/2009 22:44

Momino- I wouldn't trust any old wives tales about cravings- i've craved sweet things with all mine, and various other things at various stages (depending on what the body/baby needs).

My pg with DD and DS felt exactly the same, so you never know. This pg feels pretty similar too apart from being more tired which is probably due to having 2 DCs to look after.

I love Iestyn but we have good friends who have a DS with that name so would think we were stalking them !

We were thinking Gethin or Rhodri. I want something distinctly Welsh but pronouncable by the English given we live in the Midlands. DD2 is called Angharad (which I really love) but we call her Harri which causes lots of confusion here !! I really like Ianto - it's lovely. Can I borrow it??! Would you be offended?!!

Momino · 08/02/2009 22:59

belgian, I know you've gone to bed but I crave pizza too.

I think pula you're right, though. i've heard people who feel the same with pregnancies boy and girl.

One thing I do know: this baby is bigger. I'm not sure if that is because my muscles were already stretched and more room to grow.

llareggub · 08/02/2009 23:03

No, go ahead! We won't be using it because it is too similar to DH's name. I'm in the Midlands too, and I know of a Geraint and his name gets pronounced wrong too. To be honest, the Midlands is fairly diverse so I wouldn't shy away from using a Welsh name. There is a pretty strong Welsh contingent in Coventry so if you are anywhere near there, you should be fine!

llareggub · 08/02/2009 23:03

I love Gethin, btw...

cece · 08/02/2009 23:04

Looby - tell your DH that my DH was threatening to have the snip during my last pg. Then I had a late mc so he was pleased he didn't in the end. I think he should at least wait till the baby is 6 months old before he considers it again. (In fact that is what the GP advised him when he enquired about it).

pulapula · 08/02/2009 23:30

I agree that you shouldn't make any rash decisions about having the snip etc at such a time- my consultant asked if we were planning more children (i thought he was going to advise against multiple c-sections) but then asked if i wanted to be sterilised at the same time as the cs. I thought about it but have decided not to. Although 3 children is plenty to manage, it is so final, and i figured that if we decided to stop at 3, then i could have that implant thing (lasts 2 or 3 years) as i am really bad at remembering to take the pill! If it meant no more periods etc then i might have been tempted, but there didnt seem to be any major advantages of it above any other contraceptive.

LoobyLou36 · 09/02/2009 07:33

My DH already has a daughter from his first marriage so this is his second child. It's hard to work out if he's kidding or not about the snip.

He too is thinking welsh names if this one's a boy, he likes Iestyn also Alwyn - I'm not sure tho as we live really close to the border and there is a bit of an anti-welsh thing going on sometimes.

Bought my DH a welsh shirt last night for valentines (not that he deserves it the p**shead!) he snored all night last night apart from when he woke up at 11.30 and woke me up to ask what time it was (the vintage cider, wine, beer hadn't yet worn off me thinks [hmm}

LoobyLou36 · 09/02/2009 07:36

Spent 2 hours on ebay last night checking out changing bags. My god there is so much choice - quite like a couple of the OiOi bags - don't want too spend too much money tho - any thoughts? Altho the Quinny I've bought does have a bag I believe they call a changing bag with it - it seems small tho.

LoobyLou36 · 09/02/2009 07:36

I've been flogging stuff on ebay so that I can put the money towards bits and pieces like this.

SesHopesSpringwillbeheresoon · 09/02/2009 07:40

Morning!
Interesting to read of Welsh connections, rugby and names. My DH is Irish and rugby mad. We have names sorted and I really like loads of Irish names but with 8 nieces & nephews over in Ireland, a lot of names are taken! We love Aoife Grace for a girl though and if it's a boy we plan to name him after our grandfathers - Owen Edward.

Hope everyone had a good night's sleep. I had a better one - only once woke up with cramps and no vivid dreams!

This morning I have my first antenatal Pilates class. Am stupidly a bit nervous as I've never been great at exercise...

pulapula · 09/02/2009 07:56

Morning all,

I have spent a lot on ebay lately - i think it's time i started selling stuff too- have never tried. It's just that DS2 will need DSs clothes, and i may end up lending DDs to my sis or SIL if they have a girl. Toys are all still in use, as are maternity clothes. I guess we have loads of DVDs we could flog. We also bought some gym equipment from a friend (weights, weight bench, step machine etc) which sit in the cellar and have never been used. Guess we could try a local sale on those.

Jennster · 09/02/2009 09:03

Morning folks. Off to Ikea Warrington this morning. Hopefully the weather isn't too bad there. No snow here still. (well a sprinkling last night) but I'm going to pack the car with food blankets a spade and spare clothes just in case. I'll let you know how many other pregnant ladies I see when I get back.

momino I used to be really good at needles, then I had hundreds of the damn things when I was about 18/19 - ever since I've been absolutely rubbish! I sit there and cringe. Oh - that was for medical testing/diagnosis, I wasn't into heroin or anything.

Looby the only thing that puts me off the idea of siblings is the fighting that is ritual in many, maybe most, households between them. Kids just aren't that good at letting it go, they can reiterate their point in all kinds of irritating ways while you stand there and boggle at the inanity of it all. And often siblings have nothing in common anyway. I'm close to my two brothers but we live as far apart in the world as you could without one of us moving to the moon - Australia, England, Canada. But having said that I will probably want to have more than one (heh heh not that DP has heard about this...).

I have a welsh name. Welsh names rock. I'm not Welsh though (although by sheer coincidence my surname is also Welsh - I carry my stepfathers surname). Am looking for a gaelic name for our baby if its a girl, a nod to that side of my family. Anyone know any good books of names? We are thinking of Owen or Lewin for if its a boy. I am dead in love with the name Lewin. Owen is my uncles name and a family name.

FiKelly · 09/02/2009 11:52

pulapula when selling current ds's clothes on ebay it has crossed my mind that the sonographer could be wrong... so i've played safe and only sold the stuff that definitely won't be the right season no matter what we have. eg DS was born in Aug so his 6-9/9-12m sleeveless tops and shorts etc are def not going to be suitable for this one in nov-jan/feb-apr.

for welsh boy/girl names have you found this site yet? www.babynames.org.uk/welsh-baby-names.htm

Jennster · 09/02/2009 12:00

Bum. Nearly got to the motorway and noticed a funny smell and the engine light lit on the dashboard so turned around and came home. I'm destined not to get to Ikea.
