Sun and snow; sun and snow... Makes me feel like it's Spring at home.

Bleuravin · 03/02/2009 16:14

I'm watching Macgyver... I had such a crush on him when I was a little girl

LuLuBai · 03/02/2009 16:24

LOL Bleu - no offence intended at all but that just made me think of Marge Simpson's sisters who worship the ground Macgyver walks on.

I got DD to sleep and managed an hour's nap myself. Feel slightly groggy rather than refreshed but I'm sure it was good for me.

LuLuBai · 03/02/2009 16:27

Now I'm idly browsing Baby Name websites. Still not sure we are there with names. DH thinks we've got it sorted so he's lost interest in it as a conversation topic.

Bleuravin · 03/02/2009 16:27

I do not have frizzy curly hair...and I shave my legs often!...

LuLuBai · 03/02/2009 16:29

Sorry Bleu!

(impressed at regular shaving of legs - increasingly tricky with bump!)

Bleuravin · 03/02/2009 16:29

Yeah DH made the mistake of telling his parents the name we were thinking for a boy and they poopoo'd the idea

Bleuravin · 03/02/2009 16:30

It certainly is difficult but I hate when my legs get too prickly

AuldAlliance · 03/02/2009 16:31

Victory!
I have finally finished my marking, adding up, etc.
DS stayed in bed for 2 hours, looking at books , and I've even had time to do the ironing, too.
Which may mean that I can actually rest on Thursday and Friday...

Am feeling reassured that I'm not the only one piling on the weight. Have been very good today, no biscuits or rubbish, even when DS had his afternoon snack. Long may it last.

Re the smoked salmon, I thought another reason to avoid it was listeria, like for cold meats. Not that I have been very obedient on that front...

Bleuravin · 03/02/2009 16:34

Good Job Auld! You must be so pleased.

LuLuBai · 03/02/2009 16:36

Oh AA - on the listeria confession front - I broke yesterday and had a brie and tomato baguette. Ooops. I did exactly the same once when pregnant last time. That time I lurked down an alley way as if I was taking something illegal. This time I kept the baguette in a paper back and just broke off bite size pieces hoping no-one would notice.

And Bleu - cardinal rule in naming - never divulge, especially to family. You are never, ever going to find a name that makes everyone happy so just please yourselves and present it as a fait accomplis once baby is born. Then they just have to accept it.

LuLuBai · 03/02/2009 16:37

paper bag - doh!

LuLuBai · 03/02/2009 16:38

And profuse congratulations on doing the marking AND the ironing. You must be feeling very relieved.

BoffinMum · 03/02/2009 16:39

I am feeling very virtuous - for lunch I had omelette and crispbread (would have salad too, but we had run out), yoghurt and berries, and 3 pieces of fruit mid-afternoon. Bit peckish now so deciding what to eat next.

BoffinMum · 03/02/2009 16:40

Lulu, you are practically a gestation criminal!!

If it's any comfort, I celebrated my birthday with a glass of red wine and some unpasteurised brie.

Bleuravin · 03/02/2009 16:40

I know, I was rather annoyed at him actually.

BoffinMum · 03/02/2009 16:45

I have just weighed myself and reckon I weigh 15 stone 12 and have put on 40 pounds so far!

AA, this is probably illegal for a pg woman in France, no?

Bleuravin · 03/02/2009 16:48

Why do cats feel like they need to be chaperoned to their food? or ratherwhy does mine?

LuLuBai · 03/02/2009 16:49

oh Boffin I felt like a criminal

but am I right in thinking we need to avoid unpateurised cheeses because they 'may' contain listeria. In the same way that eggs 'may' contain salmonella etc etc.

As for wine, that doesn't worry me so much. I have the odd thimble full of red now and again with a meal and don't feel guilty.

oh - many happy belated returns on your birthday btw Boffin

BabyBolat · 03/02/2009 16:50

Boffin - step away from the scales they are evil -

Firstly it is not like you have had the mobility to burn off any excess weight anyway so you have no reason to worry

Secondly most of that is probably water and placenta (that is what I am telling myself!)

I am still feeling like crap but am going to walk to the post office for 15 minutes to see if fresh air will help!

ooh you naught girls with your banned substances!!!

Bleu, My DH told my family and it really annoyed me - no one was horrible but the point is once the baby is names people tend not to express opinions which is much nicer!!!

Yay for the marking and ironing!!

LuLuBai · 03/02/2009 16:55

yup BB has a point - I shed 26lb on giving birth, only 9 of which was DD. Rest was placenta, fluid & asstd gubbins

Bleuravin · 03/02/2009 16:57

I found this estimation of pregnancy weight gain on an American site:

Baby: 7-8 pounds
Placenta: 1-2 pounds
Amniotic fluid: 2 pounds
Uterus: 2 pounds
Maternal breast tissue: 2 pounds
Maternal blood : 4 pounds
Fluids in maternal tissue: 4 pounds
Maternal fat and nutrient stores: 7 pounds

BoffinMum · 03/02/2009 16:58

BB, I must have a monster placenta then! The size of a small calf!

LuLuBai, the risk of getting listeria is minimal, but if you do get it the consequences are grim. So make sure whatever banned substance you eat comes from an impeccable source! I doubt supermarket food will be likely to do harm, whereas restaurant food just might ...

Many UK chickens are inoculated against salmonella, my vet professor chum tells me, so eggs in ice cream or whatever is reasonably OK.

The jury is out on wine as far as I can tell, and opinion overlaid with unsubstantiated moral judgements I reckon, but I reckon a glass or two now and then can't do any harm, and might even do some good.

BoffinMum · 03/02/2009 17:01

I suppose I could easily have an extra 7-10 lbs of fluid at the moment. I sometimes manage 5-7 lbs in three days if my thyroid dose needs putting up. I think I should still watch it a bit though.

LuLuBai · 03/02/2009 17:07

Thanks Boff

And Bleu, cats are contrary creatures. Mine likes his bicuits fresh out of the bag. Once the have been in the saucer for a bit thet are no longer yummy. Solution: take them away, shake them up, give them back.
