Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SpringySunshine · 28/01/2009 16:48

Pfft, Boffin & LuLu! WhyIOughta... Bits of my colon are colocated inside and outside of my arse. Get Phil & Kirsty on the case now! It's like my bum asked for a place to spend most of its time that's all warm & cosy & family friendly, but another place somewhere more exotic to escape to when life gets too stressful

Ginger - another SPD victim? How awful

BB, haha, I do the 'REALLY? YOU THINK SO? DO YOU? DO YOU WANT TO TRY IT?' think too

All this talk of Bavarian things makes me wish I had some kind of interesting heritage I'm 1/8 Irish & that's it Nowhere near as good as my best friend's future children if she stays with her current man, which is very likely - they will be:

1/4 Iranian
1/4 Irish
1/2 Chinese, BUT the Chinese part of the family (her boyfriend's folks) are all Portugese nationals & although they look Chinese they mostly speak Portugese at home. Whilst running a Chinese restaurant in England. Now that's diverse.

Ooh, Barbarella, so pleased you're back We were getting worried! I like your questionnaire idea, by the way - I'm so, so, so bored! Everyone else can feel free to skip this bit, but it's giving me something to do for an extra five minutes so...

I'm not feeling so good today - I have a kidney infection which was diagnosed & treated last Tuesday & came back with avengeance at about 4ish this morning. I've been to the doctor this morning & now have antibiotics again, so that's good. Oh, I also have a mini case of piles, but that's not painful (yet) but it is very unglamorous.

Things at home are good. DP got back from his first counselling appointment about an hour ago. He will be treated by the lady he saw today for anger management stuff & also referred to someone else to discuss his 'daddy issues', as he puts it. It's all progress & things are still so much better since he started on the medication.

Pregnancy related things are generally not that enjoyable. Ooh, I liked my scan at the weekend (a couple of pictures are in my profile) - that was really nice

I'm pretty much getting pissed off with everything else, frankly. It's all taking too long, it's uncomfortable / sometimes painful & the hormones are just awful. But then we all know that

Funniest thing would probably be watching old home videos with my family & seeing my little sister's disconcertingly 'sexy' dancing when she was 4 (hitching her nightie up above her knees singing into a toy microphone on Christmas morning). I saw it first at the beginning of the month & again at the weekend because it was just that good. & I weed myself laughing a little bit both times

Most annoying... Hmm. Nothing huge off the top of my head. Antibiotics never working first time for a start. But then I'm on the only antibiotics ever discovered that don't make me worse than the original ailment, so I can't complain too much, I don't suppose.

I feel more ready for the baby than I actually am. Maybe because I've always been the sort to not bother revising for exams & just had faith that it'd be okay. It's probably not the best tactic to employ here (not that it was the best tactic to employ ever).

Five weeks! Wow! & ten pounds of baby... How lovely. How long will they have to be in the NICU for? I really hope they can all be in the same hospital - asides from anything else it'll be a pain visiting all over the place straight after having them. Can't they possibly make some extra provision what with you breastfeeding & all? Also, it's your turn to do the questionnaire!

Oooh, WhatFreshHell is back as well! Exciting day! Hahaha, you really need to spend more time here if you think we're all playing squash & going to parties Come back & rejoin Club Misery

& Boffin, you're so lovely & generous! If my milk doesn't come in properly can I post my baby to you in a jiffy bag?

BabyBolat · 28/01/2009 16:48

Bleu I am no expert but I wouldn't want to be around a child with Chicken Pox - even tho I have had it (this stems from the fact that I was told despite being immunised I am still not protected from MMR and BCG diseases) boffin will give you the best advice but if it were me I wouldn't want to risk it. Sorry if that's not the best answer!!!

OP posts:
gingersarah · 28/01/2009 16:51

BabyBolat - NO RISK ASSESSMENT? Go home and refuse to come back till it is done.

OK that is silly but

(I hate those sanctimonious window-closers. Closed-window-fug people always assume they have priority over fresh-air people - why is that? And why do they assume such smug power?)

BabyBolat · 28/01/2009 16:51

WFH - also on the squash partying thing - I can only just put my shoes on, I get very very tired walking anywhere and I sleep pretty much by 10 every night!!!

OP posts:
Bleuravin · 28/01/2009 16:51

DH is also concerned I'll get shingles because of it...

Bleuravin · 28/01/2009 16:52

BB it seems very bad that you've had no risk assesment and you're so far along...

BoffinMum · 28/01/2009 16:53

Bleu - If babies get chicken pox around the time of the birth it is very dangerous. Therefore if you were further along you probably ought to have an anti-viral.

I would ring NHS Direct to double check the information you have been given but if you are sure you have had it, then perhaps you will be OK.

SpringySunshine · 28/01/2009 16:54

Argh, terrible typing again. How embarrassing.

& BB, I haven't heard the phrase 'knob jockey' in quite some time Throw a stapler at his head.

Bleuravin · 28/01/2009 16:54

Dh has rung friend and said not to come.

LuLuBai · 28/01/2009 16:54

Oh yeah on a topic related to getting shoes on I must, must remember to put my socks on BEFORE my jeans. Otherwise they aint going on.

And I am starting to really struggle to zip up my boots over my ever expanding calves so I'm living in geeky loafers most of the time.

BabyBolat · 28/01/2009 16:55

I know, he pretty much shouted across the office "BB it feels a bit cold in here, can you close the window or take some clothes off or something so we don't all have to feel it!!' despite the people around me all being warm and asking me to open the window before - I was so angry I couldn't even respond!

Seriously I am so cross - stuff like that really annoys me especially when I am working 70+ hour weeks, not enforcing any of the pregnancy things they are supposed to have done (they haven't even written me a letter to confirm they are aware of my pregnancy and maternity dates despite me giving them my letter about 15 weeks ago!)

grrr

Anyway! only 35 minutes to go!

OP posts:
conkertree · 28/01/2009 16:57

oh just before i go home - meant to say thanks for the link schulte - will have a look at home - opened it at work and the video started playing so thought it was best to not make it too obvious that i wasnt doing much work!

LuLuBai · 28/01/2009 16:58

Bleu better safe than sorry but shingles is a little different. You don't really catch it. Once you have had chicken pox it stays in your system for ever (usually in the base of your spine) and can be triggered to reactivate in the form of shingles which is obviously much nastier than chicken pox.

BoffinMum · 28/01/2009 16:59

Bleu, I would think it would be reasonable to ask for a blood test and if necessary the antiviral based on this NHS information.

SpringySunshine · 28/01/2009 17:02

LuLu, I exist in 2 pairs of shoes these days - black trainers or a pair of black flats. No matter what colour my trousers are. It's a great look for me.

Bleu, sorry you won't be seeing your friend

& BB, what a complete penis. Can't you speak to HR about the risk assessment instead of relying on your idiot boss?

BabyBolat · 28/01/2009 17:03

We don't have a HR person tis so annoying!

He is a penis, a big stupid penis!!

I live in my UGG boots, I wore a pair of heels last week for a planning day and my feet were like balloons at the end of the day!

OP posts:
gingersarah · 28/01/2009 17:03

BabyBolat, he hasn't got a clue, has he. Maybe time to get all assertive / legal . in writing-y on his ass?

Mind you, I haven't a clue how it is done. I need that letter thing too, from HR. I don't even have a leaving date for ML because they have all been too busy making people redundant to speak to me. So I don't know how I am going to deal with whatever I need to do about this new SPD thing... I never see my boss now either - I used to be able to see him coming and high-handedly nip into his office and grab 5 minutes for agreement on crucial issues but now I am not physically nifty enough to force myself in ahead of the million other people who want him (hobbling painfully!) I haven't seen him this year!

SpringySunshine · 28/01/2009 17:06

You don't have an HR person? What kind of company are they running? Is there anyone else you can speak to? Someone higher up than your boss who isn't immediately involved, perhaps?

Bleuravin · 28/01/2009 17:07

Right. Thanks everyone. The friend and child are not coming over anylonger so that has solved much of the debate.
DH is much happier with the situation. (Apparently he said this is the first time ever he's worried about the baby as an individual...not just as an abstract thing... so some good has come out of it I guess)
I'll catch up with you all tomorrow.
Thanks again.

BabyBolat · 28/01/2009 17:09

I've just spoken to my office manager and said I want it done and a formal assessment of everything tomorrow as I don't feel that the office is a healthy environment or I will be taking it further - nutty do you see be being all masterful!!!

Although surprise surprise I have not had my meeting as they were just too busy and my other boss is away tomorrow.

OP posts:
BabyBolat · 28/01/2009 17:11

Yay Bleu - that sounds like a good plan! glad it is all resolved!

I know Springy it is a nightmare when things like this happen as there is no process in place to deal with issues.

OP posts:
LuLuBai · 28/01/2009 17:11

I had similar issues with my boss when I was pg with DD. She was obsessed by keeping all the windows closed and I really needed the fresh air. I hated her (for that and many other reasons) and ended up deciding not to go back to that job after maternity leave. Which obviously isn't the wisest decision financially and not one I would advocate in the current job market....

BabyBolat · 28/01/2009 17:14

But what is ridiculous is that they have already asked me to tell them how long I am taking off etc even though they are not actually allowed to ask that and everything they need I have done but everything I need they are avoiding!

My bosses are genuinely really nice people but they have no concept of these things so deal with it really badly!

OP posts:
LuLuBai · 28/01/2009 17:18

Yeah, same here. My boss asked me how long I was having off and what sort of childcare plans I had put in place. I deliberately didn't give her a straight answer but I remember sitting in the smelly, overheated and claustraphobic meeting with her thinking 'I cannot come back to this job. I cannot leave my baby to be looked after by someone else in order to spend time in a room with this woman. I will go mad.'

BabyBolat · 28/01/2009 17:19

Well I told them I would come back but only on the condition I could work from home full time until I was ready to come back to work which they seemed fine with at the time but nothing official has been put in place so we will see!!
