Here goes-I got a BFP on DPO 11 which makes me due 1st October. Was going to avoid the antenatal thread until I was completely sure but have already done 3 tests and am still not convinced. Come on and join in the worry fun.

Hello everyone.

I just got my BFP last night - my first one after 15 months of trying! Can't quite believe it....... DH and I were laughing manically, then screeched for a bit and then looked at each other and said "What do we do now??" The only thing I could think was to come and join the Antenatal thread on Mumsnet(i've posted a bit and lurked a lot on the Conception board).

Seriously - what do we do now? We actually have an appt to go see the gynae about our 'infertility' on 11th Feb, but I kind of feel that cancelling it would be a bit of a jinx. Might wait till next week to cancel and let the news sink in a bit...... But I guess I need to go see the GP soon?

Had a work lunch today - it came as a bit of a shock to realise that I couldn't have any wine, and that at least three sandwich fillings weren't recommended for pregnant women.

anyway - at the risk of seeming presumptous I've added myself to the list and look forward to spending some quality pregnancy time with you all!

Hi treats welcome to the thread and huge CONGRATULATIONS on your BFP !!!

Well I am officially crazy. After reading boobs post I decided to pee on an OPK stick just for fun (I'm working from home today). It did come up positive but it wasn't that fast (neither of the lines came up very quickly) so I started to worry a bit. Decided that I would use my digi test a bit early to reassure myself so grabbed it - it came up positive but I realised it didn't have a conception indicator. Still it was positive so nothing to worry about - except I did carry on worrying. What if I still had some hcg in my system but not the right level? Well I was planning to cook a big dinner tomorrow so I might as well pop to tesco and pick up another test while I'm there - not that I'm worried of course?! Dashed home, used test straight away and it came up pregnant 3+ within about 30sec. Breathed a huge sigh of relief, realised I had been holding my breath for the whole 30sec, thought about how panicked I had felt, now feel very embarrassed !!! God knows how bad I'll be before my 12 week scan.

Treats · 29/01/2009 16:45

hi idreamofbeanie - thanks for your congratulations.

I have to say I'm so glad that I decided to splash out on a digital HPT yesterday - it said a definite 'pregnant' - no messing about with pink lines.....

I completely relate to wanting to keep testing though - I had to take another look at mine this morning to check that it still said 'pregnant'. I've really got no symptoms at all yet (apart from being absolutely starving - although not sure that thats not just me being greedy!) so it's very hard to believe. Are you experiencing any signs? that some people are showing already!

Good news! I did call the gynae's this afternoon and they've advised me to keep the appt and they'll scan me. I'll be 6 weeks by then. So scary to think that I'll see my baby in less than two weeks.......

Cazza28 · 29/01/2009 16:51

Doctors now booked for Tuesday early eve. What do they do at your first appointment?

idreamofbeanie · 29/01/2009 16:53

Hi treats - my boobs are really tender today and I've been a bit tired and hungry (but not sure whether those last 2 are pregnancy symptoms or just the crappy weather). Thats great news about the scan - 12 weeks seems such a long way off.

Treats · 29/01/2009 17:15

Actually yes I have the boobs thing too, but I've spent most of the last week telling myself that it's a normal pre-AF thing, so as not to get my hopes up too much, so I haven't really connected them with my pregnancy yet.

"My pregnancy" - first time I've said that .

Hope your docs goes well on Tuesday Cazza - can't answer your question I'm afraid!

LittleMissBliss · 29/01/2009 17:17

treats- Thats lovely that you get a scan at 6 weeks! Well done on the BFP I think i read somewhere on the conception board that someone else got a BFP a few weeks before infertility tests! Mothernture has a way of coming through sometimes at the 11th hour!

Cazz28- At doc appt they will work out you EDD just ask how you are feeling, prescribe follic acid if yu aren't already taking any. If you are suffering bad heartburn they will prescribe gaviscone by the giant bottle. Or if you are being really sick and can't keep anything down they may ask you to keep a food dairy. They may give you booklet on pregnancy. Think that's about it.

The MW called me at home to make an appointment at 10 weeks. At this appt she filled out my notes, felt my tummy and listened to the babies heart beat.

Today i had to take ds to see the nurse to get some cream for his awful dribble rash on his chin. So i thought i might as well book in my pregnancy. The nurse just asked me to book in with the receptionist.(not sure if this is because it is my 2nd pregnancy or they do it differnetly in Poole) I've got an appointment for the 12th Feb with the MW, I will be 6 weeksish. They do scans from 10 weeks onwards so think i will try and get one for 10 weeks instead of 12 as i'm so impatient!

HumphreysCorner · 29/01/2009 17:53

Have the most terrible cramping, like mini contractions. Last time this happened I had a MC a few weeks later so now am going to be worried sick. Don't you just hate that?

Anyway, a big warm welcome to DevilsAdvocaat and Treats. Congrats to you both and welcome to the place of worry.

Good news on all the re testers.

Am so very tired and so are the girls and with my awful cramps I am biting their heads off.

Big wave!

HC I'm so sorry you are having these worrying cramps but from everything I've read they are very common and don't usually mean that anything is wrong. Take care of yourself and try not to worry (although I know that's probably impossible). Your girls will be fine if they have a bit of a grumpy mummy tonight so don't feel too bad. I'll keep my fingers - and everything else - firmly crossed for you. Keep us updated.

Oops, that's the second time that has happened - don't know what's up with my laptop.

patmum · 29/01/2009 18:21

Hi all

Very new at this, I've been watching your words for a couple of days but have only just found the list of acronyms and started to figure out what you're saying!

I feel totally underqualified to join your group since I've only used a single testing stick but it was postitive so I guess I do qualify after all!

Due date is 6 October. My first will be three in November.

Hi patmum CONGRATULATIONS

I first joined mumsnet in my last pregnancy and didn't have a clue what everyone was on about, with the DH, DS, LO, BFP etc. but you soon get hold of the lingo.

In my last pregnancy i only tested twice on the same day, but my period was 2 weeks late so was pretty sure. This time round i tested before AF had arrived so only got a faint line. I'm just a week late today and still testing!( mainly because i have so many cheap tests lurking about, if they were £10 a pop i would curb the habbit pretty quickly!)

Will this be your first or do you have other DCs?

HC Please try not to worry, chin up!

LittleMissBliss · 29/01/2009 19:29

HC

Cramping just a few days after a positive result
As soon as a healthy egg has been fertilised, and makes its way down the Fallopian tube to the uterus, the blood supply to the uterus increases dramatically. Even at this early stage, it starts to increase in size, and this can cause cramps very similar to those you may get just before your period. Don't panic! Cramping and funny pains may be felt all the way through your pregnancy. This tends to be because the uterus doesn't just float there in your abdomen, it's held in place by connective tissue that all has to stretch to accommodate your expanding baby. Don't forget that your entire lower abdomen gets completely rearranged by all this - and who knows where the ovaries end up! Curling up with a hot water bottle can help.

found this hope it put your mind at ease.

HumphreysCorner · 29/01/2009 19:50

Thanks for that LittleMissBliss. I remember having AF pains with DD2 but not those awful stop you mid sentence contraction like cramps. Only time will tell I suppose but it has put me on a downer. Will try and shake myself out of it.

Hello patmum and congratulations. A positive is a positive.

LittleMissBliss · 29/01/2009 20:23

That's it Patmum posted like a true pro!

doggus · 29/01/2009 20:31

theboob - many thanks for your advice re the new arrival and my toddler son. He loves babies so I have high hopes of your methond working.

Pregnancy tests - I am 5 weeks, so bought one of those conception dates tests and it came up 4-5 weeks. I am going to test again next week to see if there is an improvement. I'm not kidding, I must have blown £100 on preg tests. And then there's all the ovulation ones too!

herethereandeverywhere · 29/01/2009 20:53

Hello all, could I join too? My EDD is 2 October and my "story so far" is as follows:

Got my BFP on Sunday (my first EVER), immediately after I'd had a massive row with DH about ftc for the 15th month....I thought my cramps were af but had a funny feeling...so went out, scoffed a massive maccy ds and bought a test, fully expecting bfn so I could "move on" for another month. Stormed straight back in to the loo, peed on the stick and COULD NOT BELIEVE what came up straight away!!!!! Shouted my DH and I sounded so terrified he thought I wanted him to remove some sort of creature from the bath!!!!!

I'm still cramping like mad, it's been a week now. Not so bad I get distracted, but there. Other symptoms include:
v.tired
v.thirsty
bit light-headed
bit moody (DH would say that was normal)
cannot wait to eat or got the loo, when I need to I need to NOW!
Boobs haven't been as sore as PMT but getting moreso.
Bit queasy when hungry
Just got a bit of heartburn for the first time in years - that could be a co-incidence though

Phew! What a big post, sorry about that hope you're all feeling well and full of healthy symptoms! Glad to see so many "done it before" mums we can pick the brains of too!

herethereandeverywhere · 29/01/2009 21:12

PS: forgot one more symptom - MUCH more emtional, was reminded of this just now when I cried because the new born piglet on the Jamie Oliver TV show just found it's mother's teat for the first time...oh dear...

patmum · 30/01/2009 06:23

Morning All

I don't want to be grim or to add to anyone's worries but it can be dangerous so I feel that I should mention it.

With DS I had an ectopic scare luckily I had scans at 5 & 7 weeks and they showed that all was okay. However when I started feeling cramps this time I did think "oh here we go again" - didn't realise that they were normal so called the doctor.

I was told that so long as there was no pain worse than a severe period pain then I was fine. But that if it got worse then I should get it checked out.

There seems to be alot of worry about cramps it seems that we should put up with quite a lot but not too much.
