Thanks I thought it would be really difficult to start a new one and silly me it couldn't be simpler.

I am luckier this time round with dd i never saw the same midwife twice this time i have seen the same person at the gp's surgery every time.

Hi anotherhelen and welcome. I am on my second and am much bigger this time round. Feeling plenty of movement now usually as i want to go to sleep though. Got my anomoly scan on Friday we are taking dd with us as she keeps asking when she can see the baby, so we have told her she can see the baby on telly on friday but will have to wait till September to meet the baby properly, not sure weather she understands this but hey ho.

Aww how old is dd mummyhill? my eldest, is 5 in august and i have told him he can see the baby in a few weeks when we have our anomaly scan, but that baby just needs to get bigger before he/she can come out! - i think he understands, but he cant wait to see him/her on the 'telly' lol xxx

mummyhill · 11/04/2005 15:50

DD is a very intelligent three year old who demands constant attention/entertainment and knowledge about what is going on around her. People tell em how lucky i am, i wish they could have her for a week then they would realise how difficult it can be, i sometimes wish for a child who would just coast along happy to go with the flow but since the moment she could talk she has wanted to know how things work, why can't i and how do i do this. We are slowly exhausting the pre reading, writting and nursery maths book selection in waterstone and will be starting on key stage one before she hits reception class the way we are going, unfortunatly this may cause problems when she goes to school.

I haven't really felt any movement yet - trying not to get worried as I'm only 16+2 and it's my first but as the midwife wouldn't listen for the heartbeat at my booking in last week it's a while since I've had any reassurance that everything's OK. On the other hand, I've no reason to think that everything isn't OK so I'm probably just being paranoid.

I'm having real trouble sleeping too. I'm trying to get used to sleeping on my side, but have to be propped with a wedge pillow on one side and a v pillow behind my back and between my legs. DH is threatening to sleep in the spare room already.

Kiwifruit · 11/04/2005 16:51

Picallili - I'm the same as you, as haven't felt any real movement yet (just the occassional flutter, which I think is probably wishful thinking on my part!), so am starting to get a bit paranoid that there's something wrong - am sure that it's all absolutely fine, but my next mdiwife appointment seems ages away (not until the 22nd April). Why didn't your midwife let you listen to the heartbeat - seems a bit strange?

I haven't been using pillows for sleeping yet, but am making a real effort to sleep on my side (when do they say you should stop sleeping on your back?). Am not sure how we are going to fit into our bed when my bump gets bigger - DH is 6'5'', and the bed that came with our flat is only a double (seems tiny) - we barely fit in it comfortably now, so with a big bump and extra pillows it will be a bit of a squash! DH has been instructed that he will be relegated to the spare room! Our shower will be interesting too, as it's a pretty small shower box, so not sure that I will be able to close the door!!

Sallie · 11/04/2005 17:28

My midwife wouldn't listen to the heartbeat either at 15/16 weeks. My next midwife appointment isn't until 5 May which is after my 20 week scan. I have felt a few movements but not a lot and this is my 3rd. Didn't feel ds move until around 21 weeks and dd at 20 weeks....so not too worried as only 17/18 weeks now.

andif · 11/04/2005 17:30

Just a quickie for now, will read other posts later!

Hope this helps!

Piccalilli · 11/04/2005 18:08

The midwife said it was too early to listen for the heartbeat and we'd just panic if she couldn't find it. Which seemed perfectly reasonable at the time but of course it now feels like a really long time til my next appointment!

I've read that you're supposed to stop sleeping on your back at about 17 weeks.

andif · 11/04/2005 18:54

Right, kids in bath, time to read everything! We have been chatty!
I haven't slept well since about 6 weeks - still peeing all night long! Usu sleep on front, and have just gone back to this in desperation! Hugging pillow helps (dh not happy!!)
Feeling squirmy movements - last 2 pgs, not until 22 weeksish so muscles must really be shot to pieces this time!! (midwife likened it to blowing up a balloon that's already been blown up twice - ugghhh, lovely image eh?) So anyone that hasn't felt anything should be proud of their muscles!!!
Mummyhill, my ds1 was just like your dd. As a 1ry teacher, I would say don't overdo it with the workbooks - will kill off enthusiasm by the time she gets to school. If you can face it, just read to her as much as you can and as many diff sorts of books as poss - she will learn much more that way. We did this, and ds2 was enjoying Roald Dahl and non-picture books by age 4. Agree it's very tiring/trying though!! Try War and Peace - she might stop asking then!!!!

Kiwicath · 11/04/2005 20:00

As pleasing as it was to start feeling babe at 15/16 weeks, it's also depressing to know it's because my tummy muscles have given up the ghost. No one to blame but me though as I haven't done an ounce of exercise since I finished work .... May 2003!!!

Feeling great now, with energy levels back to normal and luckily still sleeping really well. Hubby works until 4.am so usually pop to the loo when he gets in otherwise could probably manage the whole night. Strange though as my pelvic floor muscles are non existent and have had to cross legs when sneezing, laughing etc. Always laughed at Mum when she wouldn't have a go on the trampoline because of this but then she did have 7 of us little horrors!!! I saw a huge bag of adult nappies in the supermarket the other day and suddenly thought I should start on my "front bottom" exercises again or I'm going to end up needing them!

milward · 11/04/2005 20:47

Thanks for the tip mummyhill - will definately try this one out. Also thanks for asthma info. So far I'm on ventolin - the doc told me today that it's also used to stop prem labour so wont harm the baby at all. Feel very relieved as I take other medication for digestive probs and just felt that it was something else to worry about. Next week I'll have some allergy blood tests to see if this is the prob. Doc thinks it could be reaction to house dust mites. Hope all is going well for you and everyone else xxx

mummyhill · 12/04/2005 08:27

My midwife did not listen in at my last appointmentat 17 weeks she said there did not seem much point as i was having a scan in two weeks (week 19 ohh this friday yipee) I was a little disapointed as it is nice to listen in!!

Andif - Thanks for the advice will give it a go.

Picalili - They recomend you stop sleeping on your back at around 17 weeks as the weight of the baby etc can press on the spine and siatic nerve and cause you some really nasty back pain apparently, at least that is what it said in the book i had first time round, still refereing to it this time although some of the advice etc is bound to of changed in 4 years!!

Well back to toddler entertaining thank goodness she is at playcare this afternoon, roll on september when she goes to nursery.

morning girls........

well my latest development is thrush and typically i cannot get to see a doctor or a midwife.
its driving me mad!!!

have nearly finished painting the nursery and have been trying to find some affordable furniture as we are on a very tight budget.

other than the obvious i am feeling much better generally........just counting the days to my next scan. and am getting some pretty punishing kicks off my baby too.....its a very active little so and so!!

mummyhill · 12/04/2005 09:28

Fed up when am i going to stop riding the porcelain bus? Is it worth seeing the GP? Am being sick at least once a day usually in the evenings but it is driving me crazy thought this was supposed to stop after 1st tri, never had any sickness with dd. I thought i was supposed to be blooming not wanting to crawl into a bed and stay there till this little monster arrives.

VirtualFairy · 12/04/2005 10:18

moschops - i have had thrush twice now - which i blame pregnancy and stress, i did not see a doctor or midwife i tried yogurt and it worked better than usual treatments. i put it on in evening for an hour and by next morning was feeling better! i think you have to use natural yogurt with live cultures. i think you can either eat loads of it or just smear it on - very attractive i know lol
from internet research you can even marinade a tampon in yogurt and then stick that in for a while too.

i think its definatly worth a try as it worked better for me than canestan pessarys or cream that i have had in the past.

also don't eat yeasty foods such as marmite and avoid really ripe fruit and sugary stuff as it feeds the yeast.
anyway good luck with it

Rhumba · 12/04/2005 10:21

Mummyhill, I've been seeing my Gp for M/s and to be honest she just gives me sympathy and signs me off work. They can prescribe drugs but mine don't. It's really frustrating feeling so awful. I was determined to get back to work last week and try to work from home. Managed about 1.30/2 hours before being horrendously sick for the rest of the day. I find if I do practically nothing but lie in bed I'm Ok but as soon as I get up for any length of time I just start vomiting again.

Am sleeping Ok but have lost weight (now only 53KG) so get a bit uncomfortable sleeping on one side for too long as am a bit scrawny. My understanding of sleeping positions is that you should lie on your left side as otherwise the baby can lie on your vena cava (main vein) (might be the aorta, can't NB) and interupt the blood flow! Can't remember when this takes effect from and haven't been really worrying about it yet as I thought it was only relevent much later in pregnancy.

andif · 12/04/2005 10:24

Glad I'm not the only one with thrush! Not that bad, but have had it on and off since found out pg. Teatree oil in the bath helps and have tried eating bio yog but it sets off the sickness again!
Isn't pg delightful !

zubb · 12/04/2005 10:27

Drinking cranberry juice is good for thrush as well - tried it when I was pregnant with ds1 and still drink lots of it.

Kiwifruit · 12/04/2005 10:29

I've been having thrush problems too - never had it before being pg. Have become best friends with a pot of acidopholous yoghurt. Found the best thing is to dip a tampon in it and use that to get some on the inside, then smear a bit around the outside, and use a panty shield to avoid making a mess... sorry if TMI . It really is most annoying. Also, I think you need to make sure it's cleared up before you have sex, otherwise you pass it back and forth between you and your partner (this could be completely wrong - but have vague memory of hearing this somewhere), and when men have it, they don't have any symptoms, so you won't know it's happened until it comes back again... Lovely

andif · 12/04/2005 10:40

I love Mumsnet - we'd never have a conversation like that face to face!!!!

moschops · 12/04/2005 10:40

sorry to see i'm not the only one suffering down below!!

and Kiwifruit.......considering the position most of us will be in in a few months time we'll be abandoning the TMI phrase i think!!!!

will go on a hunt for suitable yoghurt later.......not sure my little Co-op will have what i need!!

Kiwifruit · 12/04/2005 11:07

I started a thread on this about a week ago, when the trush was driving me mad! Have a look here

Someone said that any natural yoghurt is OK as long as it's unsweetened - fingers crossed your Co-op has some!

Have a feeling you might be right about TMO moschops !!

mummyhill · 12/04/2005 12:10

I have deffinatly been losing weight but they are not to bothered about it as i am not dehydrating and baby seems fine i am normally a size 20-22 but am wearing size 18 maternity clothes and even the trousers seem a little on the large side am hoping bump will fill them out soon. So as you can tell it's not as if a can't afford to lose the weight, hubby is quite impressed he recons i will be down to a size 16 after i have had this one. I just gets me down as it makes me feel so rotten.

You think the coversations on here can be embarassing you ought to hear the ones at some of the mother and toddler groups i go to. I have been known to walk out of the kitchen to save my blushes before now.
