Thanks I thought it would be really difficult to start a new one and silly me it couldn't be simpler.

I am luckier this time round with dd i never saw the same midwife twice this time i have seen the same person at the gp's surgery every time.

Thanks for that, I'm going to have a good look through the Next directory with a cup of tea and a crunchie! I've got a really sweet tooth just now that I'm finding hard to keep under control.

mummyhill · 21/04/2005 09:07

welcome ych.

As to maternity leave lets see you don't have to tell work till you get your mat B1 usually at 24 weeks but is better to let them know as soon as possible so that they can arrange adequate cover however they shoud not be pressuring you.

I intend to take two weeks holiday at the end of July and start my mat leave on 1st august that way i should have 6 weeks before and 5 months after with my little angels.

Am going to see GP later managed to fall on the bottom two stairs baby is fine (plenty of movement going on) but have hurt my knee, ankle and back in the process. Mainly cause i twisted the ankle and back when trying to ensure i landed on my knees and hands in an effort to minimise damage to bump. Feel so foolish, this is the second time i have fallen in 4 weeks, last gp i saw wasn't interested just told me to slow down and be more careful. I wouldn't mind but i haven't been rushing anywhere and have been telling them that i have been having dizzy spells. Hoping by seeing one of the other partners i may be listened to instead of fobbed off.

My last day in the office is 24 May - taking 4.5 weeks of leave and then my mat leave kicks in. Like Picallili, I am a lawyer, working 4 days a week in the City. I already have 2 kids and am finding this pregnancy really tiring so can't wait to go on leave!!!

Kiwifruit · 21/04/2005 09:30

Morning Ladies

All this talk of maternity leave is making me want to run away from my desk! I started thinking about it yesterday, and am trying to minimise the amount of time I'm without income before we fly to NZ. Am saving 2 weeks of annual leave, and think I'll take 1 week of maternity leave before my due date, so that means I get to finish about the 2nd September. Might have to re-evaluate if the tube trip to work gets too horrible...

Boompi, how is the fit on the Bloomin Marvellous stuff? Am going to check out the shop in Fulham on Sunday, as if the weather gets any warmer will only be able to leave the house 2 days a week, as only have 2 shirts that fit me!! Lucky you going back to SA for a holiday - will your Mum come over to visit after the baby is born? Also, where did you get the grandparent book from? Might get one for my MIL as think she's a bit upset that we'll be whipping her first grandchild away to the other side of the world only a couple of months after it arrives.

Got my 2nd midwife appointment tomorrow - think I get my last blood tests back, and they take more blood for the triple test.

Spoke to a lovely doula on the phone last night, and we're going to meet her next week. Will feel much better once we get that sorted.

Welcome back Franch - sorry to hear you're feeling so hope the sunshine today is doing a bit to make to Noticed on another thread that you were looking at getting a Phil & Ted E3 explorer - did you end up getting one, and where from? Have to say, I quite like the look of them...

Right, had better go and do some work...

Kiwifruit · 21/04/2005 09:40

Nearly forgot - has anyone been to an NCT nearly new sale, and are they worth it? There's one in Chiswick this Saturday, and thought I might go and have a look.

And welcome YCT!

Boompi · 21/04/2005 10:41

Kiwifruit - I only got stretchy trousers from BM. Just got my normal size and they fit well. May be because they are full of lycra though! Grandparent book from BM too.

My parents are coming over after the birth for 3 weeks. Last night they told me thay want to stay in a hotel as 'our flat is too small and they are too old to be woken at night'. I am unreasonably upset and cant stop crying. Hormones! I think its a waste of money, we do have a comfy spare double room for them and I really wanted them here for support. My MIL (who I've never had big problems with) seems completely disinterested in my preg and never talks about they baby. So I am feeling very alone. I have no close family in the UK and am suddenly scared at how I'm going to cope. Thankfully DH is useful and supportive. This is my first real emotional upheaval so far so I guess I'm lucky

Working from home today but am pretty useless.

Kiwifruit · 21/04/2005 11:10

Boompi - I can sympathise with how you're feeling. My parents aren't coming over (we are going home at the end of Nov, so it's a big trip for them to make, and we don't have a spare room). MIL is interested, but will only come and stay for a long weekend. DH is a contractor, so has to work to get paid - have been having panic attacks, as he will probably only take a few days off after the baby is born, so I will be at home alone, which is a bit of a scary proposition at the moment. I try not to think about it, as it just ends in tears (bloody hormones!!).

Maybe you can work on your parents while you're at home? Buy them some ear plugs to trial while you're there . Are there any hotels near your house that they could stay at? Then at least they can come over first thing in the morning, and go just before bedtime (and to be honest, you might appreciate a bit of time without them?).

Boompi · 21/04/2005 11:19

Kiwifruit - thanks for support! It is all scarey isnt it? Think there will be a solution and yes it is all bloody hormones!

zubb · 21/04/2005 11:24

franch - sorry you are feeling low. I know what you mean about days that just drag on if you have nothing planned. Even if it's just a food shopping trip I try to make sure that I get the kids out whenever I'm with them for the day, otherwise I'd go mad just staying in trying to amuse them and looking at all the mess.

Katts · 21/04/2005 11:54

Morning guys,

Boompi and kiwifruit, I'm in the same boat. My family are in the states. This is my first so feeling pretty overwhelmed with what to expect and coping on my own. Also trying not to put too much pressure on DP as his business is closing in June - so stressful times for all! I'm hoping to get home for a week or two in June and also want to bring my mom over when the baby comes. But being self employed - with debts to pay off before baby gets here - makes taking any time off kind of difficult from a financial point of view. But I guess things will all work out in the end.

YCH - CONGRATS!

moschops · 21/04/2005 12:04

isn't it hard feeling trapped at work.........i'm lucky i only HAVE to work one day a week at the moment.......but was saying to dp i don't know how much longer i can cope with it. i feel uncomfortable already and my customers are ignorant and stupid and just don't understand there are certain items i can't help them with (bags of compost for example).

i was at work yesterday and will be doing friday and saturday too because dp needs to make some serious progress on the building work at home or it will never be ready in time for baby (and as its the kitchen its quite an important room!)

i worry so much about the bills as business is very slow at the moment. dp tells me not to worry as its bad for bump but you can't just turn your brain off can you?

PiccadillyCircus · 21/04/2005 12:53

Day off today which feels particularly nice. Decided it was time that DS and I went to explore the toddler groups round here - we tried to find one and failed and found another one instead . Lots of mums and babies and it happens every Tuesday and Thursday morning. DS was fairly happy to do things on his own and so I have good feelings about it when there are two of them to look after .

There was another pregnant person there who (a) asked me how far on I was - hooray - a person I don't know recognises that I'm pregnant and (b) is due on the 16th September like me . Her DS was a couple of years older than mine though.

Must remember to tell nursery that we want to cut down his sessions from the beginning of August.I think we have to give two months notice of changes now (used to be one month).

DS is having a nap. I am quite tempted to do the same but I'm sure if I do that he will wake up straight away...

mummyhill · 21/04/2005 13:39

well finally got listened to!!!! I have an innerear infection which acounts for the loss of balance and dizzy spells have been given a short course of tablets to clear it up and will apparently be ok afterwards. Why didn't the last doc i spoke to think of this? Probably because he couldn't be bothered to listen and wanted to get rid of me asap!!

Katts · 21/04/2005 14:03

How frustrating Mummyhill! Often it seems like the last thing doctors want to do is just take 2 seconds to listen to you and write a freakin' prescription. Glad you got it sorted though!

I just got a honk from a lorry full of dirty builders! Guess they didn't notice the bump - or maybe they did. AhhhH!

elasticated · 21/04/2005 15:20

Oo - hello, first ds/dd due on September 12th and have just discovered this thread. V excited to find so many people all going through the same thing. Have been really enjoying being pg past couple of weeks, proper little bump now and can feel lots of movement.

Piccalilli · 21/04/2005 15:23

I'm getting worried now - am I the only one who hasn't felt any definite movement yet? I know I'm a couple of weeks behind a lot of you but even so, can't help being concerned. I'm 18 weeks today.

Katts · 21/04/2005 15:45

Don't worry Piccalilli. I've only felt one that was a definite movement. I'm 18 weeks as of yesterday. I've felt a couple of things that could have been movement but equally they could have been any other number of strange digestive occurances. I think it's normal not to feel movement even up to 20 weeks or so. Also could be that your baby is just facing your back so you can't feel it yet.

milward · 21/04/2005 15:51

Piccalilli - I've not felt any movement yet - I'll be 18 weeks on saturday. I was told at an ultrasound that the placenta is at the front so this might mean I'll feel movement a little later on. I agree is worrying. I've always felt movement later on than everyone else (must be either the super muscles or the flab!!) my second & third I felt at the end of 19 weeks - don't remember for my first dd!!

Kiwifruit · 21/04/2005 16:08

Piccallili, I was 18 weeks on Sunday, and I haven't felt anything definite yet either. A couple of times I have wondered if I felt something, but think it was just wishful thinking. Have a midwife appointment tomorrow, so hopefully she will let me listen to the heartbeat, to confirm that there is still something there, and my growing belly isn't just a result of all the food I'm eating !

Piccalilli · 21/04/2005 16:20

Thanks, everyone - it's reassuring to know I'm not the only one. A couple of times I thought I felt something but it could just as easily have been wind. I've got a midwife's appointment the week after next so not long to go before I can listen to the heartbeat hopefully.

mummyhill · 22/04/2005 08:21

Wow we have been really chatty again recently, does any one fancy starting thread number 6? I would but have a nightmare linking them to the old thread. And to think i used to be a computer wizz kid!!!

Piccallili - I didn't feel any movement with dd till about 21 weeks as she was facing my back most of the time. This time round i felt stuff earlier because i knew what sensations to look out for. Talk to the midwife and make sure they have a listen in, mine didn't on my last appointment because i had felt movement and was due for a scan the following week and i was really disapointed.

SandyR · 22/04/2005 10:46

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't posted for a while - thought I'd give you an update. After our worrying triple test result we were due to go on holiday on the friday. had an appt with the consultant on the thursday who was just fantastic. we talked it through and decided to have an amnio which he did the same day. he said it would be OK to go on hols and risk of mc was no worse for flying. felt like a murderer watching the needle going in on the scan during the amnio and really focused our thoughts over the holiday. we decided not to worry, to think positive and that it wouldn't make any difference to how we felt about the baby whichever way it went so almost regretted having it done. I rang the hospital from Spain on Tuesday and the result was negative and the baby is fine. obviously we are so relieved but it made me think about the 1 in 60 person who would be ringing up and getting bad news. i'm not religous but said a prayer for anyone else in that situation. thanks ever so much to everyone on mumsnet, especially milward for being there. only downside is that it seems for the first time during being pg am now suffering from feeling sick. think it must be the baby getting its own back for subjecting it to the amnio !

Kiwifruit · 22/04/2005 11:17

SandyR - that is fantastic news!! I'm so pleased for you .

I was sick for the first time this morning . Brushing my teeth has been making me retch for ages, but this morning it actually produced something. Yuck.

Just got back from my midwife appointment - got all my bloods back, and all good, except for my iron, which is just under the lowest acceptable number on the scale (more meat and veges for me!). Also got to listen to the heartbeat, which was a relief, as still no movement, so nice to know baby is still there.

TGIF -wish I was outside playing in that lovely sunshine!!

SandyR · 22/04/2005 12:09

what is going on then? i thought the sickness thing only happened in the first couple of months. strange question maybe but does anyone know how much weight you lose straight away after having the baby. Slimmed down before getting pregnant and now am seeing myself tipping over the scales and getting worried. Someone tell me you lose a stone and a half immediately !

PiccadillyCircus · 22/04/2005 12:14

I was sick last night as well . But I think more due to a small bug than pregnancy as DS was sick in the night (and I feel bad because I didn't find out until I got him up this morning) and DH wasn't feeling well either.

Really don't know how much weight I lost straight after birth - I'm not sure exactly how much weight I put on as I was in hospital for the last week. And I can't remember weighing myself again straight away. But I probably lost about a stone straight away. I had put on about 4.5 stone though (and they all went (and more) after about 6-8 months )

Think I might start a new thread...
