Thought I'd better start this soon.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Momino · 23/01/2009 21:21

Detsy, what a horrible experience, I'm glad all is ok.

Grumpy and anyone else with dog/pets, do you have to vacuum everyday? Our border collie has been with inlaws for 2 weeks and our house has never been easier to clean. now, furry boy's back and i'm so depressed at how quickly the fur balls gather, mud on the dingy black/white kitchen floor, children's toys on the floor mixed with fur, wet dog smell, etc.

does everyone else with furry pets have to clean constantly?

detsy · 23/01/2009 21:44

Thank you girls for your hugs and messages, glad i wasn't being far too emotional for my own good! Hopefully all will right itself now and we can carry on as normal. Mum coming over to look after me and Lottie tomo so can rest if need to - DP away (do not ask where )

Momi we only have two fish so no need to vac after them...

Emmalina now i may be going bonkers but for wee I'm sure I have seen on Kim and Aggie... that they use bicarb of soda to disinfect and remove the smell. Mostly animal wee which smells worse anyway so must work??! Unsure of what you have to do but am going to research in case my bed leakage is the same variety...

llare interesting about the notes but he was just playing a game with himself I suppose. I hadn't seen this on my notes till today and I think its in my own GPs scrawl - she ushered me out to a side room when she called the hospital. The guessing game depends I suppose! I suppose with the protein thing in my wee they will check for GD anyway as routine? Reckon I've lost about 5 lbs with virus which is a vain but good thing for me!

llareggub · 23/01/2009 21:51

Detsy the protein thing is about testing for pre-eclampsia, but even with protein being there it doesn't mean anything. I've always got a trace of protein, and they've explained it at various times as an infection, contaminated sample, and just one of those things! I think the test for GD is routine at 25 weeks or so, but I had it earlier because I have PCOS and my trust tests for GD earlier in these cases.

Each time they've done further tests due to the protein, and nothing has ever come back, even when I had high BP a few weeks ago.

detsy · 23/01/2009 21:55

Be sure to do a patch test in an inconspicuous area before using these suggestions.

Also be sure to blot the area as dry as possible before using these methods.

Corn Starch
Working corn starch on the area and then vacuuming draws out the urine and there is no lingering smell.

Mouth Wash
Lister* mouth wash will remove urine odors. Dilute with two parts water and spray or pour it on the problem area and let it sit for several hours. Then place a stack of newspaper on top to soak up the excess liquid. Vacuum when you remove the newspapers. The mouthwash smell will be gone within a couple of days.

Hydrogen Peroxide
You might want to try hydrogen peroxide. Be sure to test a small spot first to make sure it doesn't remove color. Pour it on, work it in a bit and let it dry.

Baking Soda
Sprinkle baking soda on the affected area and leave it to absorb overnight. The next day, vacuume up the first batch of baking soda. Pour another dry batch of baking soda on the carpet, and using a wet cloth, rub the creamy wet mixture into the area. Next rinse the mixture with clean water. Vacuume well when the area is dry.

Baking Soda, Water, Vinegar
Create a baking soda and water paste. Rub it into the area and apply distilled white vinegar over it. Blot this up with clean white towels, and repeat it no more than two times. Follow that with a good rinsing of water, blotting up the moisture. It will smell like vinegar for a short time, but the urine smell should not come back.

Wintergreen Scented Rubbing Alcohol
Use wintergreen scented rubbing alcohol from a dollar store. Splash it on the area. It dries fast and doesn't have to be rinsed. The smell of the wintergreen disappears in a few days. This also works for cat urine as well. It's a cheap and effective fix!

detsy · 23/01/2009 21:56

thanks llare
off to bed now - knackered for a change...

FiKelly · 23/01/2009 23:05

ooo detsy i'll remember all of those tips for the next time our dear old gets a UTI and has accidents all over the house.

FiKelly · 23/01/2009 23:06

sorry missed the key word... our dear old dog!

Momino · 23/01/2009 23:17

you're prob all snuggled up happily in bed. i stupidly went on the childbirth discussion site to see opinions about tens and other pain relief then got caught up reading some horrible labour threads... not a good idea at 23:10 before going to bed. am a bit stressed now thinking of labour to come.

so i'm now going tolook at babynames, a happy subject, until my eyes start to close.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 24/01/2009 11:07

Momi

Border Collie here too (she's black & white, long haired with 1 blue eye and 1 brown eye - beautiful), the amount of hair she sheds is phenomenal. We have ruined several hoovers with dog hair (also, I have very long, very thick hair so I think I create my own hairballs ).

When she's been to kennels, if we've gone on holiday, we come back to the most lovely floors - clean, hair-free, for approximately 9 seconds...........

By the by, is your collie 'highly strung', ie, completely pathetic and scared of everything? Ours came from a working farm (the farmer was going to destroy her because of her different coloured eyes - some sort of superstition that they don't make good sheepdogs), I would have though she'd be hard as nails!!!!

divedaisy · 24/01/2009 11:29

Detsy, I'm only catching up on your worrying experience this morning. I hope everything has settled. Take it easy today - no excuses with your mum there to help!
chocolate bunnies - ( I think I know who you are - glad to see you back!) regarding the baby position, I know EXACTLY what you mean! Last time I was being kicked in the ribs, now this wee one is also kicking me in the fanjo - - it's very sensitive!!! I get kicks in both groins and more of a pressure under my ribs than movement. I find it hard to know what could be feet or arms, shoulder or bum etc, but am happy to be feeling the movement anyway. According to the book I bought DS 'What's in Your Tummy Mummy' or babies at 24-27 wks are about the size of a pineapple, and according to the diagram could be sitting upright (breach) rather than head first. There is plenty of time for them to shift round and tend to do so to get a bit more room. But I must confess that I do find the way this one's lying more uncomfortable. I see my MW on Monday afternoon, so hopefully she'll be able to tell me what's what!
Momino - I have 2 dogs - 1 is cast-free and the other certainly makes up for what No1 doesn't deposit all over the floors! I should vacuum every day but I just don't have the time/energy to do it every day. I try to keep the dogs access to the house to the hall way and kitchen... but the fluff does manage to creep everywhere!! Total invasion! The fluff culprit also is a collie-lab-whippet mix thing and is very nervous too. Thankfully we have wooden or tiled floors throughout and mopping up after her excitement or nervousness isn't too much of a problem (except that at the minute I find it hard to bend down to mop it up). I use Detol/Detox or whatever it's called to 'kill all known germs'!

I suddenly realised last night I've only 15 weeks to go! I don't know if I feel anxious really, but I keep telling myself 'I've done it once I can do it again! My body will just do what comes naturally to it!!' I'm going to the M&P shop next week to have a look at the pram systems and hopefully will be in a position to order one. I am not getting DH involved, cos last time he hardly pushed the thing at all! So long as it has a high handle it'll be OK for him.

Just noticing too that despite it being quite cold here this morning my rings are a tad bit tighter than normal. My hair is growning very quickly and is lovely and thick!

Sorry for long post...

divedaisy · 24/01/2009 13:34

chocolatebunnies - found this - might help explain the fanjo kicking!!

Momino · 24/01/2009 14:10

grumpy, ours has a similar story: george was born to working stock parents but going to be 'sent away' because he had a bad shoulder. we rescued him as a puppy, got surgery on his shoulder and he's perfect form. had to put lots of training into him for socialising and nipping. he's much better now and great with the girls but he's still very nervous so unsocial with other dogs. still, he'd have made a great sheepdog, very bright and lots of energy. too much energy for me, I'm afraid! i'm finding it difficult to take him out for his afternoon walk with the heavy P&T and will have to rely soon on DH to do both walks.

DH is away this weekend and mopped the floor before he went (am lucky there!) - that was 4 hours ago and it's already a mess of dropped pizza and tufts of collie. always cleaning to do.

feeling really nauseous again as well. whereas MS seemed closer to car sickness, this later pregnancy nausea is different, like extension of indigestion, I guess. do you know what I mean...?

also very grumpy again and snap unforgivingly at DDs for things like spilling food, wiping hands on their tops, taking too many toys out of the toychest, etc. you know, things children do! i need to relax a bit so have decided to sit down with laptop. I do feel a bit calmer.

Momino · 24/01/2009 14:13

divedaisy my hair has grown thicker as well. I'd been thinking about dyeing the grey hair that is emerging but with this pregancy, the grey isn't as noticeable now!

chocolatebunnies · 24/01/2009 14:52

Thanks divedaisy !
It really is the oddest felling isn't it! I've tried explaining it to my dp and he really doesn't have a clue, his response is well the baby is in your fanjo so of course its going to feel like theres something in there! Oh deary me! Men!
I'm having a peaceful afternoon today, Dp is a footy and DD has gone to play with her Auntie so I think Im going to stick on Dirty Dancing and enjoy my jackie p when its finished cooking! yum!
I still haven't got any cravings grrrrr! I didn't with my 1st pregnancy, was hoping I would this time so I could milk it but no such luck!
During my last pregnancy I suffered with heartburn and leg cramps everyday/night but I can't remember when they started, luckily they haven't yet so Im hoping it won't be till later on!
Re cleaning & doggys - When I lived at home we had a Skye Terrier (Dougal from the Magic Round A Bout!) so we had to hoover and dust everyday because of his hair! Although once he got to 4 he started to get alapecia (sp) and excema (sp) so he had no hair, except on his ears so they could cut down on the hoovering then!
Ooooo my jackie p is ready!
Speak Later my lovelys!

flippineck · 24/01/2009 15:45

Afternoon all!

Hello Chocolatebunnies, welcome to the board

just a quick warning about the position of kicks - don't try and guess which round LO is by where the kicks are most! DD was (undiagnosed) breech and I was getting loads of kicks under my ribs (and all MWs and GPs kept saying she was head down). The reason she could kick me in the ribs was because her feet were by her ears!

Wish us luck today - inlaws coming for a week! We've had a mad cleaning session. I'd forgotten how nice our house can be when it's tidy and clean!! Good news though - MIL has offered to do all our ironing for us. the pile is currently about waist height .

SpangleMaker · 24/01/2009 16:13

I think my LO is head down but slightly diagnonal... well, that's what the midwife said at the last visit and I don't thing he's moved too much because the biggest, firmest part of my bump is still top right. Sometimes it's really obvious - MW said he's probably stretching and pushing his bottom out! I'm feeling most big kicks near the top but some at the bottom too.

SpangleMaker · 24/01/2009 16:19

flippineck good luck with the ILs. I don't think I could be doing with family staying for a week (even my family) but then our house is tiny. Having said that I like it when we have guests as it's the only time DH gets the motivation to clean!

FiKelly · 24/01/2009 19:01

really chuffed as dh and i have managed to get ds to sleep in the single bed we got for him at christmas. he's been resistant to leave his cot so in the end dh took the cot apart and took it out of his room. he had a minor paddy when we first put him in but luckily he was so tired the fight didn't last long. wanted him to be settled in the bed long before may so he won't feel pushed out by lo. will be interesting to see if he still sleeps through ok. fingers crossed we'll all still get a good nights sleep. can't believe how quick he's growing up..

Momino · 24/01/2009 21:26

should I really have the yumyum sitting in a thomas's paper bag in our kitchen ?

LoobyLou36 · 24/01/2009 21:39

Evening ladies.

I have just come home after a lovely indian meal in town - really nice but would and been nicer with half a bottle of white with it, lol .
Still it was good to get out.

Met up with a friend in town today who is 4 weeks ahead of me. She's done it all before tho so spent an enjoyable few hours shopping for baby bits and bobs.

pulapula · 24/01/2009 21:54

Momino, whats a yumyum- sounds good whatever it is.

Tummum · 24/01/2009 21:54

Momino go on, eat the yumyum. The baby will like it..

pulapula · 24/01/2009 21:58

fikelly- how old is your DS? We made up DDs bed when she was about 2.3 but she didn't show any interest in it until she was nearly 2.6 (just before DS arrived luckily). DS1 will be nearly 2 when DS2 arrives, but i think we will keep him in his cot for a while after that, as a friend has offered to lend us a cot and DS2 will be in a moses basket/travel cot for first few months anyway.

Whenever he pretends to lie down in DDs bed it never lasts, so not sure he would stay in a bed...

Hope u get a good nights sleep.

Moonlit · 24/01/2009 22:24

Evening Ladies!

So I had my scan today. ITS A GIRL!!!!!
The people at Babybond were so professional. I was very impressed and so were my DH and sister. My husband looked at the screen and said 'It's a girl', we all looked at him! He then said 'I can see the three lines'. It was a funny moment. The sonographer and her assistant confirmed it. We have three lovely photos to confirm it.

We went to Mamas and Papas and bought a pink roundabout moses basket and pink bedding. We then went for a lovely meal, but ended up getting a takeaway because DD fell asleep and was exhausted.

I am a very happy Mummy today

Momino · 24/01/2009 22:43

Pula a Yumyum is a glazed doughnut from UK baker Thomas'. Though I miss American doughnuts I think these are far better anyway.

yumyum still sitting there - i'm eating leftover pizza instead!

Moonlit, congrats on your pink scan! that's great news.

speaking of pink, I now know the reason we do it: dd2 who is 16 mos was mistaken for a little boy the other day so the ony way to make it clearer is to dress her in pink. Though, dd2 was wearing a girly brown/pink parka .
