Now that's a mamma of a post - SORRY!!!

missjackson · 18/01/2009 12:44

Congratulations to Stripey! Yes, impressive that she was shopping online one moment, and popping out her baby the next! Here's hoping this thread brings good things for me too who is DUE TODAY!

Unfortunately spent the night in an agony of heartburn, which I have never had before - at one point I did think it was maybe actually contractions high up as it was sooooo painful, but Rennies helped a bit, and I haven't seen that on the midwives list of pain control during birth! Anyway, didn't sleep properly till the early hours, but managed to sleep on till 12 - now off to get some Gaviscon which I am hoping is the cure.

MissH my midwives make an appt for induction at 42 weeks at the hospital (but will let you go longer with monitoring if you really want to) so I think it's pretty standard. Weird to think you will definitely have a baby by next weekend!

Books has all my energy. What is this 'swimm-ing' and 'walk-ing' you speak of?

Congratulations Stripey and welcome Catherine, the baby news is coming through fast now! Hope someone will still be around to keep me company, the Big Brother house always seemed horribly claustrophobic to me.

Bed with lap top. That's my exercise. Well, I do have to go to the loo alot AND it's down 2 flights of stairs! I have very well developed finger muscles from typing and fantasy online shopping. Have a full basket on most sites, I can never actually buy any of them.

Saddo!

hkz · 18/01/2009 14:40

Books; Hmm...acupunture chilled me out...but hasn't seemed to have got the baby moving... am going for a second session on tuesday if nothing has happened by then.

Elkiedee- Saw on another thread you've read 'Call themidwife'...I read it a few months ago and loved it...especially as it was based around the East End. It was really well written...I'm glad there are more volumes to come. Loved the bits about the Spanish woman with lots of kids...

MissJackson-Hearburn is hell..I found the gaviscon 'cool liquid' was the only thing that helped me...and gallons of cold milk

Tree- was really interested in all the info on induction...was beginning to wonder what the next steps might be if this baby doesn't turn up... Online fantasy shopping..I thought it was only me who did that! Bed and lap top sounds like a good combination.

LG&T- Lovely pics of your children, India is gorgeous!

Right, I am off to the supermarket to stock up oncemore...all the food I bought, presuming we'd have a baby by now , has gone...

dog go for the one I went for - 28 days to return if you don't use (there are also sites that do a 2 month returns policy but this was the cheapest for what you got - arrived next day

link

I bought the i want it all package - £150.

if I don't use it goes back for a full refund.

if you use it there is so much stuff I reckon it would go for 80 odd quid (or a bit more) on ebay (they seem to go for £60 plus and it has a spare liner and everything.

Thanks for the advice tree have been pretty laid back about everything this pg but it just gave me the willies a bit when mws told me to keep a really close eye on baby movements. Was doing this anyway of course, but dh was there at time so now keeps asking me every hour if baby has been moving and also if it is OK to go on so late. Have had the heartbeat checked every two days though and will be back in tomorrow for another check and sweep so I guess if anything was wrong it would be picked up.

hkz we are same, did massive shop for all of our post pg needs and have eaten all of it by now. Need to buy some more cakes.

Am impressed with those going for walks and swims - I keep trying to go out for walk but end up just shuffling to the corner shop and back.

Off to sit on my hands and knees for a bit...after 8 weeks of sitting bolt upright to keep him anterior, little bugger seems to have gone back to back. I would tell him off but am trying to encourage him to come out...
Have a good evening ladies, hopefully some more babies on the way

EachPeachPearMum · 18/01/2009 16:00

Congratulations Stripey! Welcome catherine

I was woken by contractions 4 times last night... so definitely gearing up now!

MissHairspray- I think the problem with going over is to do with placenta- if he's got good movements and heartbeats, then there can't be too much wrong with placental supply, so everything will be fine, as far as I'm aware.
The other thing to remember is that some of us have 24 day cycles, and some of us more like 40 days... meaning gestation should be different length for us all really!

treedelivery · 18/01/2009 16:02

MissHairspray - can totally relate to the willies. I'm quite a busy mum, I can't be sat around counting squirms!! That said when she is quite it's amazing how much it bangs on my head till I notice and pay attention.

Sending Labour Vibes your way EachPeach

tinkisfourtyweeks · 18/01/2009 16:53

india rose is gorgeous and has a gorgeous name to match

looks like i will be having stretch and sweep tom
tree - what is the success rate of sweeps? how quickly can it lead to labour?
i will be 40+4 weeks
only had heaviness with bump and tingles

rrrayray · 18/01/2009 17:02

Hello ladies- my oh my its been busy!

Massive congratulations on all the new bubbas. Although can't hide the fact i am rather

No labour signs here since show! Been for long walk today, so tomorrow would be nice!

Title is Great - although not entirely my own working. Its actually what someone wrote on my Facebook wall & i thought it was hillarious & very appropriate!!

Hoping for more babies by the morning! xx

treedelivery · 18/01/2009 18:15

Those who do the sweep will claim it as a victory if you labour within 24 hours
From experience I'd say after a few hours and usually before 12, with diminishing chances after 12.

Research is firmly firmly 'out' as to success rates. Nice and the college of obstetricians went with recommending them [I think] on the 'does no harm so if the woman's game then worth a try' slant iyswim. The NCT have a brilliant low down on them...am off to find it.

Gosh - DH nicks the laptop for a day and look what happens!

Huge congratulations to Ms Sparkle, Shanster, FLF and Stripey - really hope I haven't missed anyone - will have to read the thread properly later. Hope everyone is doing well and being looked after really well.

Have a ridiculously stuffed little one lying in her crib next to me as my milk came in today and the little guzzler managed to empty both sides in just ten minutes a side and then look like she was going to explode. I had to keep her upright for ages afterwards for fear of it all errr revisiting, but she must take after her Mum as there was no way she was letting any of it go! She has been asleep ever since and making noises like an overfed puppy - oh lord - just thought about what sort of nappy I can expect!

missjackson · 18/01/2009 18:56

Thanks for heartburn advice ladies, gaviscon seems to be helping. Had already left for shop when tree recommended the advance option, but if this stuff doesn't work, I can go back tomorrow.

Another day passes with no sign of the baby.... would have been funny if he had turned up on his actual due date, but guess that doesn't happen much!

I don't think he's even engaged yet!

My MW will do a sweep next week at 41 weeks - am def going for that if no action before that.

treedelivery · 18/01/2009 19:14

Ranitidine is also brill, zantac tablets. I used to get it so bad was sick and they were the last port of call and def did the business. Urgh. won't miss the burn!

I've got consultant clinic Wed, am hoping for 3rd sweep then. Ho hum!

Lovely to hear from you Moose, in all your milkiness. Bet they just love it when the milk arrives, like going for a carvery after a salad only diet.
