Tree- best of luck for tomorrow, I hope it all goes well.
I am knackered and happy...yay for tens machines, gas and air and alison the accupuncturist.

Will catch up properly tomorrow when I am less delirious

LooseyC · 21/01/2009 22:01

There is so nothing happening here. I'll have to bunk up with the Feb thread at this rate. Doesn't stop my mother continually calling though. Means well I guess but grrrrrrr!

flf and spink that is lovely about your dc1s. Makes me feel better about ds and how things will be with the new one around.

missjackson · 21/01/2009 22:14

Tree best of luck for tomorrow - we'll all be thinking of you I'm sure.

LooseyC I read somewhere that only 5% of babies show up on their EDD - but it's gotta be someone, so why not you? I felt like that on my EDD though!

Stripey congrats and I can't believe they have such a stupid rule about lying down. That makes me so cross!

Hope everyone has a good night xx

I know I gave birth to Rosie over 2 weeks ago but I've been meaning to post our birth story since then and only just got round to it . So please skip over if it is too much like old news! I won't be offended and I realise it is a MAHOOSIVE post - sorry...

so. woke up to waters breaking at 3.30, woke dh who lunged around the room like an ostrich looking for a soft towel (who knows why..) before coming back to bed - I wasn't having contractions, so we tried to get back to sleep. a couple of hours later, went to the loo and noticed meconium on my pad. Called the labour ward who said the homebirth was off because of the poo, and asked us to come in asap. Gutted. Gutted. Got to hosp about 6am-ish, some mild contractions. Attached to monitors, baby seemed ok but everyone keen that she was born as soon as possible because of the meconium apparently being a poss sign of distress. I walked up and down the stairs trying to bring on stronger contractions. They got a bit more regular, but still not very long or painful.
Consultant came round and said that because I wasn't yet in labour, they wanted to induce. From home water birth to induction by syntocin drip. I felt so disempowered and disappointed, and sad that my body wasn't going to have the chance to do its thing.
Before starting the drip, though, the mw wanted to do an internal exam. She looked a bit surprised and told us she was getting the senior mw to have a look. She did, and found that I WAS 7CM DILATED!!!! it was fabulous. All those contractions, and the niggles and false alarms in the couple of weeks before, looked like they'd paid off! The lovely lovely mw gave me an (energetic - ouchey) sweep to keep things moving, and the induction was OFF! It was 10.30. the contractions picked up in strength, and were more frequent, but were still pretty short, and so, pretty manageable.
After about half an hour of leaning on the bed and swaying around (still attached to the monitors) they were getting intense, and it was a brilliant surprise when the mw offered G&A because I'd totally forgotten I could have pain relief . So I sucked on that and got dh in a headlock and mooed my way through a few more contractions. I lay on my side on the bed, bit tired by the swaying and standing, and after a bit had a kind of heavy feeling in my bum. The mw said something like "your baby is right there". Dh asked what she meant and she told him to look down. I heard him say 'oh my god' - bump was in the way so I couldn't see what he could straight away - but then I saw a little head. I looked up at dh, totally disbelieving what was happening. seeing him welling up made it click that it really was our little pip being born. Another contraction and she arrived! a 4 minute second stage! (compared to 5 hours for ds!!!). I can't believe it happened like it did, but her birth was lovely, better than I dared hope for. and it only REALLY hurt for half an hour or so! woohoooooo

treedelivery · 21/01/2009 22:36

SPINK!!! Way to deliver a baby you genius!!!

Thank you so much for all the good luck vibes, I knew it would cheer me getting on here with the news. Felt very [hmmm] about opting out of nature and into medical management but now just feeling rather excited!! Reading that story has cheered me no end Spink.

I'm very sorry if I haven't read or realised some big news from today, am a bit doolally and daft and generally hysterical. But good luck to anyone doing anything and enjoy to those still cooking away.

elkiedee · 21/01/2009 23:32

Aaarrrghh long message vanished.

Good luck for tomorrow Tree, sorry if it's not what you'd hoped for. Not surprised you're anxious and distracted.

Loosey, bet I'll be all on my ownsome here by the end of the month and you'll be clutching your lovely newborn.

Have been starting to pack my hospital case, though I can't really do clothes etc for me (don't have enough to put them in a suitcase for the next fortnight or so) I thought I could pack for baby and it's helped me remember what I'll need.

treedelivery · 22/01/2009 04:11

WELL!! Went to sleep at one, despite adrenaline surges. Woke at 2:30 dreaming I was stuck in bed and couldn't move - which was very true and then felt 'the gush'.

I believe we have spontaneous rupture of the membranes!! Keep having panic attacks I'm just wee-ing myself but hopefully not or will look a plonker. The unti want me to go in, which I was happy to stay homw and keep an eye on till some contractions came, but am going in now.

PIL here for dd1, who I hav ejust kissed and said bye too. REALLY wanted to wake her but would be cruel relly she needs her sleep.

Will let you know. Will be most sheepish if it's all a big wee.........

Dh has gone to the funeral as nothing seems to be happening here. I was so sure after the contractions the night before last that something would be going on by now....

I was so hoping the baby would be early as this one is bigger than DS (9lb 2)... Still my due date is Monday so...

what are your bets on the baby's weight? DS1 was 9lb2 and born at 40+1 (went into labour on due date, born the day after).

PS I was 10lb 12 when I was born!

tree- I hope it all goes well- you could have had her by now?

SPink- that is a fabulous birth story! I am so pleased for you!

dog- I'm sorry you're ill- but that really made me laugh- children come out with the best lines, don't they?

Books- I was about the same too yesterday- BH in late afternoon, and increased discharge. Nothing today though Are you going to have c-section instead of induction?
I am wondering a little about that tbh- seeing m/w this afternoon, so will raise it.

We were late to nursery today, and all the staff were 'worried' about us! They thought that might have been it!

morning ladies.

Tree Fabulous your body seems to have stepped in before medical intervention!! Will have fingers, toes, everything crossed for you today.

dog Sorry to hear your sick, the memory of 6 months of constant morning sickness and not being able to be more than a metre from a toilet is still REALLY fresh in my memory. Horrid to think you have a bug so back in that boat! Get well soon!

Spink Great birth story. The idea of getting to 7cm without screaming the place down, oooh sounds amazing.

Nothing much going on here. had a dull tummy ache last night so didn't get great sleep. But seem to be having a continuious show, little bits everytime i go to the toilet. Lovely. Obviously means nothing here though!!!

fourlittlefeet · 22/01/2009 11:31

Spink I love your story - thanks for sharing that is stunning and very funny, you make it sound so easy!!!!

Tree, very excited and waving the flags for you (but nothing else as everything is a little, ahem, sore)

Dog, hope you feel better soon.

come. on. ray.

soooooo tired

rray I am envious of your show (never thought I would be thinking such a thing!), at least it means SOMETHING is happening! Since my show a week ago (which was only very small really) I have really had no good signs of anything happening anytime soon - and I am 2 days more overdue than you I think. Boo. They are giving me a sweep on Sunday morning, earliest they will do it, and I have acupuncture today, so fingers crossed... but something is telling me this baby is going to be VERY late!

Spink what a great story! Love the bit about seeing DH welling up and realising what was happening - made me well up too!

Well, another day of waiting ahead. Going out for dinner for my SIL's birthday tonight, so at least it feels like there is some 'shape' to the day - this has been the weirdest month of just hanging around doing not much, waiting for life to change!

rrrayray · 22/01/2009 11:56

FLF - how long after your acupuncture did things kick off again? My acupuncture yesterday was really good... and it left me feeling all odd, it was 3.30pm, so not even 24 hours yet- maybe, just maybe, today would be LOVELY!!

Books No no no, i'd rather no show and then things suddenly happen, rather than me getting excited ALL the time, about nothing. Who thought i'd ever get excited about "knicker gunk"

Am starting to get a LITTLE aprehensive. OH's match this weekend is away, which means him leaving first thing tomorrow morning and not being back until about 10/11pm on saturday. Now, i have one of my best friends on stand by should i need anything, and i'd be able to get hold of OH pretty quickly (unless on pitch) but its a good 3 hours from here their fixture. They HAVE to travel on the team coach, so should he have to make a dash for it, he'd have to get a taxi home (costing hundreds of course!!! Great!!) But i'm just starting to worry a little that if i went rEALLY quickly (unlikely i know) and he was actually on the pitch, that there is a slim chance, but a CHANCE he could miss her birth! Its our life, i've always known all this, we've decided to have our family before me establishing my career (only graduated university in the summer) so he is the bread winner & of course HAS to play the match, but still..... i can't help thinking sods law says i'll go into labour 5 mins before kick off

tinkhashertinklet · 22/01/2009 11:56

morning all good here

rrrayray · 22/01/2009 12:00

Just AA Route planned it... 217 miles, approx 3 hrs 25 mins!!!

rrrayray · 22/01/2009 12:03

Miss J Crossed posts... i think i too am going to be very late. Boo!

tink Glad all well

Spink · 22/01/2009 12:16

rray I feel your pain with your OH being away - dh too has a career that makes un-negotiable demands on his time, and we just have to find ways to cope with it. He was due to be working in Italy, deep in the mountains for 2 weeks, which ds's due date was bang in the middle of. Lots of people reassured me that babies tend not to come when it is not good for them to come, and ds arrived 3 days before dh left, so he WAS there for the birth. Hurrah. So tell your baby what your OH is up to, and hopefully she'll kick back, relax and wait til he is home and fully available for you!

AnnVan · 22/01/2009 13:10

hey - sorry to gatecrash your thread, but has there been any news from treedelivery?

ooh, and all the best for all of you!

missjackson · 22/01/2009 13:22

rray I wouldn't worry, I am sure like Spink says your body will not go into labour until everyone who needs to be there is present and correct! My sister is away working in Ireland at the moment, but she is sure that her first nephew/ niece is hanging on for her to get back next week! Hope not.....

Off for my acupuncture now... fingers x-ed!
