OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oh Nutty you poor thing! That's horrendous, how are you feeling this morning, any better? I do hope they can do something for you at the hospital - really I always thought the NHS was crap but THIS bad... from what I have heard from Boffin and you... it's shocking. Good luck and make sure you tell them what you think about how you've been treated! (I know you will )

Seriously wondering about moving back to Germany... it would be heaven to give birth there, the maternity units are like hotels and squeaky clean...

Bleuravin · 21/01/2009 09:20

Oh Nutty! I hope you find some relief this morning!

BabyBolat · 21/01/2009 09:22

Nutty, you definitely have to write them a letter and a timeline of events! this is ridiculous! How can they justify leaving a 6.5 month pregnant lady virtually disabled and dependent on pain medication??!!

I would call them this morning and say that you have had enough of being neglected and if your condition wasn't take more seriously you are going to take the matter further!!

Are you ok?

bleuravin - havent finished reading so dont know if you sorted it out with your dh but think a lot of men prefer to bury their heads in the sand when it comes to money. we had a few problems with dh not telling me about a big credit card debt - had a pretty big fight about it when i found out, but once i did, we got the payments increased and paid it all off by August so things are soo much better financially now - i pretty much have to force him to let me deal with the money - so maybe as boffinmum says you need to gently but firmly tell him you will become his personal accountant for paying bills etc.

money (and the roof leaking) are about the only two things that keep me awake at night (apart from ds of course) so the sooner you can get it sorted, the more you can enjoy these last glorious weeks of being pg (conkertree runs behind the communal sofa and ducks from all the cushions being thrown)

mathsmummy - piglet outfit? where from - i think i will need one for this lo.

nutty - love your mantra for bb - will need to remember that one.

babybolat - hope you are feeling better today and hope you can speak to your bosses (or just get to the end of the week and then collapse and have a really realxing weekend). - just read your post from last night - glad to hear you have a nice relaxing weekend lined up.

boffinmum - yay to the treatment - hope it actually works this time round. and yay to babybolat for helping out with the letter. think a spice girls song is called for here.

puzzlerocks - the gruffalo is a favourite of ds's too. julia donaldson's son is one of my uni friends too - they are one of these very talented and very lovely families (a bit like i imagine boffinmums to be) - and the gruffalo gets recited in the dark every night as ds goes to sleep (by me not him).

nutty - not fair about the lush stuff - i am allergic to sodium laureth sulphate (the bit that makes bubbles) so cant use hardly any lovely bath smelling things. boo. hope you enjoyed it though.

babypringle - chickens are not hard work at all - they mess up the garden a bit - although they also contribute fertiliser to the vegetable patch, but you can leave them for a few days without asking a neighbour to feed them as they wont overeat, so you just leave enough food for a few days and water, and they are fine. ds absolutely loves running around the garden with them too. and there is the obvious benefit of fresh eggs pretty much every day.

oh dear nutty - just got to last night's posts. poor you - think you and boffin deserve medals when this is all over. will retract my earlier comment about enjoying the last few weeks of pg. hope you can get some help today.

right will post and see if a new thread has been started while i was writing this .

conkertree · 21/01/2009 10:39

poor you nutty - having to spend the morning on the phone - why is nothing ever simple and advice actually at the end of a phone.

hope the mw phones soon. i only have dairy milk to offer - dont suppose it will help much.

Bleuravin · 21/01/2009 11:52

Well I went into Gp today because the burning breasts have not stopped, though they have eased slightly...GP had no idea what it could be. Though it doesn't seem to be mastitis according to the guy (which was my chief concern). He had never heard of burning/stinging breasts before and had not heard of a woman getting mastitis before she started breast feeding. If it continues through the weekend or gets worse I'm supposed to call them again...Though next week Thursday I do have an appt. with the MW so I must remember to mention it to her...

Anyone else find any joy with their lives /appt.s this morning?

SpringySunshine · 21/01/2009 12:28

Oh Nutty How has that not been picked up already? I don't understand how it could have been missed?! I mean it's okay - you're lucky because you already have painkillers, so what are you complaining about? For God's sake Are you okay, love? I mean obviously you're not okay, but you're not in too many pieces emotionally are you? Is there anything we can do?

Also, Bleu, how strange that they don't know what the problem is. I've been looking around Google for you & it seems that it could well be the milk ducts forming, as they apparently start to do at about 6 months. They say to ask your MW to check for any cysts, or sign of a yeast infection under your breasts just in case.

Also, apparently, it could be that your milk is too acidic? I'm not sure about that one. Possibly diet related? Confused

Bleuravin · 21/01/2009 12:38

Nutty, I honestly didn't expect a proper answer; but the 'probably not mastitis' was what I was looking for so I'm ok with it all. I after all can still take a paracetamol for my pain, not like you or Boffin, and the cool cloths wrapped around the breasts do help in many ways too.
Hopefully then your appointment will be in good time and yyou can be sorted even by this afternoon. It's very reassuring about the c-section. Fingers crossed.

SpringySunshine · 21/01/2009 12:41

Nutty, I know that the CS isn't ideal, but it probably is the best thing in your case - you don't want to be labouring when you're in so much pain / so many different types of pain anyway and you'll get a definite date in advance to count down to. There'll be no wondering 'how much longer do I have to put up with this for?', because you'll know. Of course the recovery time from CS is obviously longer than a VB, but to be honest you'll probably feel so much better to not be carrying a big baby around with so much strain on your body that it won't seem too bad in comparison.

& you might be able to sway the case for getting your baby a little early - if you can prove that you need to have her closer to 37 weeks than 40 they often do that if the baby's developing properly, etc. So you may miss a couple of weeks of pregnancy as a happy bonus.

Bleuravin · 21/01/2009 12:44

Springy that's more information than I found! Well not the yeast infection bit. I was theorizing that it was possibly the colostrum coming in...

But milk too acidic or cysts, right; must ask about that
Though to be honest GP had a bit of a feel, as have I too be honest, and I think he would have found cysts...but I'll still mention it next time...

Thanks!

conkertree · 21/01/2009 13:05

yup nutty - that is good news in one way - sounds like the amount of pain you are in, a vb wouldn't really be a sensible option. only so much one body can take, and having a definite date would have distinct advantages.

yay its lunchtime. managed to avoid dipping into the packed lunch dh made for me on my way out this morning, although i have had a square or two of chocolate. really must get those running shoes looked out for May/June time.

wonder how boffinmum is getting on.

cant think of anything else to suggest bleuravin - sorry. is it the whole thing thats sore or more the nipples? sorry if you've already told us but looking back takes ages and i'm being lazy.

are you having a relaxing day springy after handing your assignment in?

Bleuravin · 21/01/2009 13:09

it's the whole breast, pretty much excluding the nipples. it burns or stings like when you get an injection. there is no redness or blotchiness to the skin though...it's under the skin that the ache comes from...

oh nutty! have a hug

At least it's getting sorted.
maybe you need a bit of a nap? you were up in the middle of the night. try nd have a rest, it'll make it easier to think about and make dh's rrival come quicker
hug

conkertree · 21/01/2009 13:22

another hug from me nutty - agree that being up in the middle of the night cant be helping.

am not great at offering constructive help - but have a spade load of sympathy. are you stuck on the sofa or able to move about at all?

need to think of some fun things for you to do (or watch on telly) for the next few weeks to try and make them go a bit quicker.

BoffinMum · 21/01/2009 13:48

Hello all, quick post from hospital bed via phone. Poor Nutty, so sorry to hear of your woes, BB could you forward Nutty my letter and grid please so she can use them as I can't email with attachments here. Nutty, get yourself a inpatient appointment asap because then the pain team, rheumatologists and obstetricians all come to your bedside and are a lot more able to help you. The problem with pain clinics is that they are not set up for pg people so the waiting lists are just too long. I am already on Tamadol in a fairly high dose with Paracetemol coming at 2, and on a nice ward with other ladies in for placenta problems and so on. I honestly believe if you could get admitted they would start doing more to help.

(hugs)

Boff xx

conkertree · 21/01/2009 13:51

well thats dedication for you.

Bleuravin · 21/01/2009 14:08

lol boffin it is good to hear from you though.
such a sign of our times that one can access the virtual comune while in hospital bed.

BoffinMum · 21/01/2009 14:14

I actually have bedside internet here too but it wouldn't let me post because of the filters, so I an using my smartphone for that. I don't think Patientline have factored in MN otherwise we could all have labour threads!!!

conkertree · 21/01/2009 16:01

quiet today so am posting anyway cause i am bored.

sil was due on 15th jan - she had a sweep yesterday and hasnt started herself, so is being induced on sunday.

reminded me of how much waiting around there is going to be in April.

but thats a depressing thought so i also thought how many creme eggs there are going to be in April, and thats much nicer to think about.

BoffinMum · 21/01/2009 16:31

Hello again,

Seen pain people now. Things I have learned:

  1. If you take codeine phosphate and paracetemol at the same time it works better than taking either separately.
  2. You can use TENS in pg under supervision and they are actually getting me a unit to use later as this is strongly recommended. Nobody has ever gone into labour here using TENS.
  3. If you are in hospital as an inpatient they can give you morphine. This gives you a holiday from the pain and then your muscles relax from the spasms and you get even less pain as a consquence.
  4. Other opiates are better then Tramodol and more focused, so it's better to take things like this. But you have to watch constipation.
  5. However if you take opiates around the time of the birth they seem to prefer you to have a hospital birth.

Nutty, hope all that is helpful. I wish you were in the next bed because the lovely nurses would be looking after you too and I could hold your hand and help you feel better. Plus I have snacks from Waitrose!!
